Ancient Runes Lesson II: Healing Charm The classroom was back to normal. The desks, the bookshelves, the spherical shape with the symbols in the front, the professor's desk on the dais and the blackboard nearby. Everything was back to the way it had been before the former lesson. The name-tags are set down on the desks so you should look for your name and have a seat at that exact place. ooc: - Class will officially begin later today, so you can play your character walking in and taking a seat. - All SS, SS RPG & AR's guidelines and rules apply. So be nice. ;) Class Progress: [] Greeting + 1st Q [] 1st Q still + 2nd Q [] Explaining the Runic chain + Q3 [] Q4: How to invoke runes? [] Sub-activity: carving runes on bronze bracelets [] Activity: Healing the plants Runes-way. [] Drop the healed plants off at the hut & class is dismissed! |
Runes. He had NO idea how he felt about the subject after the whole 'under the sea' experience. Nevertheless, he was here... willing... and as curious as ever. Upon entering the room, he noticed things looked NORMAL, though, the plants lined along the side of the room were a little odd for a non-herbology class. That much could be overlooked. Unless they were growing beanstalks to visit giants and steal their treasure... .... ..... or something, cause that would be all sorts of weird he didn't have much care for. Zeke was immediately taken with the name tags on the desks. WHERE WAS HISSSSSS?!... and so as a consequence, everything in the room was forgotten. Zeke... Zeke.... Zeke...... AHUHHHH!!! THERE IT WASSSS! Dropping his bag at the foot of his desk, Zeke took to his seat and pulled out his things. OH! Was Botros here?!?!!? Zeke looked up and turned in his chair to see. |
Ian walked into the Ancient Runes class and noticed Zeke was there. Ian gave him the head nod and then went to greet the professor. No professor though. He wandered through the classroom and found his name tag. Setting his satchel down, he grabbed hold of his parchment, quill and textbook. It would appear there was to be no more 'practical' portion of the lesson. That was sort of a fun way to learn runes without really knowing you're learning. Doing the homework had shown Ian that the professor had provided practical, real-time application of runes. Waiting for class to begin, Ian began to doodle a bit. |
Stepping into the Ancient Runes class the very first thing Hady took notice to was all the plants. Smiling slightly at that she realized everything else seemed to be back to normal. Where was the Professor though? Not seeing the Professor right away she turned to look for her name tag. Moving to the front of the room she let her eyes skim over each and every name until she found hers. It really wasn't all that hard given her name was at a desk in the front row which suited her just fine. Taking a seat she set her bag down at her feet and waited for class to start but not before waving at Zeke and giving him a friendly smile. |
It didn't surprize Lex to find the class in perfect order like it used to be before Trident. Like she already knew, the effect didn't last forever, in fact it didn't last that long. In truth, it was more annoying than serious giving her even less reason to care. People would get possessed and people would get over their possessions. She was already hit meaning she was home clear for when graduation rolled around. Nothing stopping her now. Entering, she noted the rows of plants on the ground and found herself praying this wouldn't be a joint class with Herbology. Lex got enough of Professor Walton in any one week thank you very much and didn't need him showing up all the way on the fifth floor to ruin her morning too. "Good day Professo--" Or....no Professor? When she never saw him standing at the door, she figured he might have been inside but...apparently not? Lex walked over to her normal seat and plopped down. Again, no looks to the plants while she silently hoped. |
*for fun because I have SOME time to breathe* SPOILER!!: Ian It had only occurred to him that he was the first in class when Ian arrived. Whoa. "Heya," he greeted, returning the Puffers head nod. It was a man thing, head nods, yep. SPOILER!!: Hady Soon he wasn't the only of two in the room, because Hady made it tooo! Heh, a badger, a snake and a lion... would the next be an eagle?! A RAVENCLAW? He was tempted to stare at the door, but he returned Hady's greeting first. All bright smiles and a wave too. "How've you been?" he asked conversationally, he was tempted to move to the table next to her... would the Professor mind if he swapped the name tags around a LITTTTLEEE bit? Hhmmm? SPOILER!!: Lex Watching the door didn't yield the result he had hoped for. Had he hoped for it? Mehh... it'd have been cool, but Lex was pretty cool too. "He's not here.." their merman king professor, not yet at least. BUT, on that note."If you still need someone to brush your hair this lesson I'm cool to help you out with that." He was probably going to pay for that comment, but he couldn't keep from grinning. It was a hilarious joke when you thought about it. Lex, hair brushing... yeah, SO FUNNY. |
Quote:
Not wanting to be rude she gave a wave to Lex and Ian as well. Better to make friends then enemies. |

As he was drawing, he reached up to adjust his beanie . He read a little bit more about Wunjo and Jera as he waited for class to start and more people to show up. |
Angel walked into the classroom and was about to say hello to the Professor when she realised that the Professor wasn't there... this was weird and now she would just sit down and wait for the lesson to start. She wondered where her sister and her boyfriend and Adi was. |
Norah walked into the Ancient Runes classroom and looked around, waving to Ian as she slid into an empty seat. Plants, eh? And no professor? The second year decided not to question what was going to happen and busied herself with pulling her materials out of her bag. Another glance around the room informed her that she was somewhat early, so she dipped her pen in bottle of ink and began to doodle vines on the corner of her parchment. |
Were they going to be hovering and floating around in this class too? Adi stepped into the classroom to find out. Nope. His feet remained solidly on the floor. He noted that the class's setting was back to normal with the name tags and everything. Adi waved to Zeke, Hady, Norah and Angel as he headed to find his seat. Ian got an acknowledgement as well in the form of a nod. So...where was his seat? Oh! It was right there, right in front of him. He sat, wondering where old Botros was and what they'd be learning about during this lesson. |
Burdened by no less than four satchels stuffed full of parchment scrolls, books, supplies and sundries, Andrew stumbled into the Ancient Runes classroom. The regret he was already feeling about his visit to the library before class intensified with every aching throb in his shoulders, and his relief when he spotted his seat near the front of the classroom was almost tangible. Slumping down in his spot and tucking the bags away by his feet, he let out a long, drawn out sigh before cocking his head to the side, and then back the other way, as if he'd only just realized where he was. He turned around in his seat and spotted a familiar face. T'was Adi! He gave the boy a friendly wave and settled in for today's class. |
Jasmine arrived at The Ancient Runes classroom, hoping that everything and everyone would be back to normal. Stepping inside, she was happy to see that the room seemed to be in order. Professor Botros was nowhere to be found and Jasmine didn't know whether that was good or bad. As she walked toward her desk, Jasmine noticed that some of her friends we're already there. She gave a little wave to Norah and Adi. Then she sat down and took out her things. Placing her bag on the floor, Jasmine sat back and prepared o wait for class to begin. |
Ian looked up occasionally as more students entered the classroom. As he received greetings, he returned them. Norah got a wave and Adi received an acknowledging nod. Things weren't perfect with the prefect, but they seemed to be improving bit by bit. He noticed Angel was there. He hadn't talked to her too much since they encountered one another near the library. He was grateful for the talk and her counsel. He looked at his doodles and noticed a clear theme. Fish. |
So Ancient Runes, then. The last time he'd been in this class, the classroom had transformed into an underwater palace or whatever it was and they had to go and find a crab named Sebastian. Had it been a good lesson? WELL. It had been fun to not have to do any proper work and note taking, that was for certain. It was also fun to forget that the OWLs were a thing for an hour or however long the lesson had been so thank YOU, Botros. And speaking of Botros, where was he? Because Grayson was here and he couldn't see the Professor at all. Wasn't he usually waiting by the door? Or had that been just that one time to get into their good books? MAN. Instead, there were a bunch of plants lining the side of the claassroom which was something the boy was gonna ignore for the time being. Besides, Botros wasn't planning on making his own grand entrance, was he? Eh. Seat? He was gonna take one. Right......... ..... by........ ........... OH! THERE was his nametag! Brilliant. Grayson took a seat and took out his things before waiting for the class to begin. |
Kace was excited to be in Runes. He remembered last lesson their classroom was the under the sea theme. It was an interesting class but he was glad it was back to normal. As he entered the classroom he noticed others were already here. He looked to the right and didn't see the professor here yet. He might be sleeping in or just exploring the castle? Ah well! He saw plants on the window sill and wondered if they would work with plants today. He found his name tag and sat down. He didn't see Lux, Cinna, Emmy or Bay. Well he did wake up early so they might be getting ready. He got out his notebook and decided to do some doodles while waiting for the professor to come into the room and his friends. |
Ancient Runes... Benny didn't remember the last class. It had been during his period of craziness and blank memories. So it felt weird when he stepped inside the classroom, feeling as if he was missing whatever everyone else knew about what they were studying. He hadn't even registered the fact that he should have probably checked someone's notes for the lesson. But it was too late now. Too late to prepare himself for any awkwardness that might be in place. At least the classroom looked like it had before. Thank goodness for small favors. Benny spotted Angel and Adi already there and offered weak smiles at his best friend and girlfriend before moving in search of his own nametag. Finding it, the fourth year took a seat down in the matching chair with a sigh. Could he ask for a normal class for a normal day? |
Twitchy. Really quite twitchy. And fidgety. That was the best way to describe Toby as he entered the Ancient Runes classroom today. The Hufflepuff gave the classroom a routine cursory glance as he stepped inside, and started looking for his name tag on the desks. He must have passed it two or three times, but eventually Toby paid attention long enough to see it as he made to pass the same desk yet again, and finally took his seat. Textbook and writing things out, Tobias sat in his seat, fidgeting and fiddling with his quill and parchment, and distractedly flipping the pages of his book. His foot tapped incessantly under the desk and thought about all the studying he'd still not managed yet. So twitchy. All this OWL studying... it was driving him round the twist. |
Sophie kind of liked King Botros, honestly, so she was a little disappointed when things had turned back to normal. The classroom was neat and tidy and, as she walked inside, her feet stayed planted firmly on the floor. Disappointing, wasn't it? There was no professor in sight, though, which was something out of the ordinary and Soph immediately worried about the man's health. He was all right, wasn't he? He hadn't... had a heart attack or something? What else would keep him from being on time to his own scheduled class? Nothing good, she thought, and silently prayed to Merlin that Botros wasn't in some sort of harm. She found her name tag and took a seat, setting out her dragonhide gloves atop her notebook and keeping a keen eye on the door. Maybe he was just running a little behind or fell asleep, hm? |
AJ hummed Under the Sea all the way to the classroom. Ancient Runes happened to be another lesson that was crazy. As she made her way to the door she noticed that the class was all back to normal. There wouldn't be any swimming for her today. Her mouth was opened to greet the professor when she realized there wasn't a professor to greet. Hmmm... No worries. AJ looked around until she found her name tag. Once it was found, she plopped herself down and waited to see what they would be learning today. Her eyes glanced over to the plants. Odd. |
tiiiiiny mention of Soph Coral held on tightly to her notebook, her knuckles and joints had a slightly red tint to them. She knew the anti gravity charm wasn't on the room anymore but every time she made the trip down here, she couldn't help but feel the tiniest bit nervous that her feet were going to come up off the ground again. Which... they didn't. Stepping further into the room, she peered around, a sigh of relief escaping her lips. See? Totally normal again. Everything was fine. Now to hunt down her name tag... She made her way across the room, walking by Sophie's desk and drumming her fingernails along it with a grin before finding her name just a little down the way. Now.... where was the professor? |
Marigold was wide-eyed and panicked-looking as she entered the classroom. OWLs. Runes. Things she didn't know. AH. |
Forgive him for being a little nervous about any and all Hogwarts lessons. Gabriel had been tentative about entering the classroom....but at seeing it looking rather ordinary and normal, he proceeded....with some caution, mind. The rows of potted plants got an exasperated scowl...but other than that, his expression remained neutral. The stress was maybe under control...for now. Maybe. As instructed, Gabe looked for his name tag....hoping he wasn't forced to sit with some loud, obnoxious girl. He was getting better at pretending they didn't exist....and his marks had improved somewhat. It'd be difficult to maintain sitting beside one.....unless....Well.... SPOILER!!: The CB! ..........Unless they were CB. Considering probability and simple math....what were the odds that his name tag would be right beside hers?.....because it was. Right beside hers, he meant. Flushing...brilliantly, Gabe carefully took his seat, cutting his eyes towards the girl in question. Nod. Merlin, help him not embarrass himself....including bodily functions that produced vomit. |
If there was one thing that really irritated Layla about classes at her muggle school it was at the beginning of the year when the teachers used to make all the students sit in a seating plan so that they could remember each of their names and stop them from getting distracted by their friends. Walking into this Ancient Runes class and being forced to find the desk space that had her name on it caused the frown that was already etched across her face to grow even stronger. The Professor did not receive a smile for the Ravenclaw’s mood had tumbled from bad to worse and he was partially to blame. Not that there was anyone around here that she particularly wanted to sit with anyway. “Hello Professor” she spoke so as to not appear rude. Manners and all. This was a ‘posh private’ school compared to her previous Muggle academy. If you could call it that.. She slipped her satchel off of her shoulder and down onto the ground before shoving it gently underneath the desk. She had already received her parchment and quill from its depths and her attention was focused on the row of plants which also received a typical frown. Urgh. She wanted to leave already. |
The Gryffindor walked into the classroom with a reluctant look on his face-- whatever a reluctant look meant. It wasn't because he hated runes, which he didn't, but it was because he wasn't really sure what to expect this time around. Last time they were swimming around in water so really it could go anywhere. However, when he walked in everything seemed to be back in order... So without wasting any time, the Gryffindor began searching for his name tag. And now, they wait. |
Runes... No. She couldn't do it. That and Arithmancy. She just didn't get those two subjects at all. This lesson was going to be sooooooo long. Ugh. Why did she attend this lesson? The professor was nice and all but runes made her head hurt. She walked into the classroom. No professor? Well she headed over to a seat next to Lux. But wait that wasn't her name on the desk. She sighed and looked for her name tag. Lux was her only way of surviving this class and she was on the other side of the room from her. She flopped down in the desk with her name tag. Quickly she looked around for a smart person to help her make it though this lesson. Anyone? |
Botros wasn't late to his own lesson, nope, he'd just forgotten to get the box from his office and had to 'run' and get it. Except he wasn't capable of running so he turtle!shuffled his way to his office, got the box, and now he made it back to the class to find... "Oh! Hello." All his students were already inside. He beamed at everyone and closed the door behind him. The box was set on his desk, and he flopped down on his chair to take a breather. |

Ethan was unusually in deep thought as he sat there and waited for the class to begin. His thoughts brought him back to last term wherein he saw Professor Bentley in her office, and was half-way through packing. The plants in the classroom made him remember it, because if he knew earlier that she was leaving, he would have given her a nice potted plant with runes engraved on the pot. The former Herbology professor won’t need to water it and such because the runes would keep it alive and healthy. The prefect snapped back to the present and as he blinked, he saw runes drawn on the board. Some of the runes? He knows all four runes, but he’d not hog all the answers so he’ll just go and give one. Raising his hand, Ethan cleared his throat. “The first rune from the bottom is the ‘Eihwaz’, professor.” The endurance, strength, and protective rune. Maybe that has something to do with the survival of plants? |
Angel looked at the Professor and smiled "Professor is one of the runes on that chart ūruz?" Angel thought she had it right but then some of the other ones look the same and she was very confused, maybe there was more to runes history then she thought. |
Ian saw the professor walk/shuffle into the classroom, toting a box. The professor looked a bit winded and Ian felt a little bad for the man. It must be challenging for a man of the professor's advanced years to navigate the castle at times. Of course, Ian remembered two terms ago as Bltros had taken his youth, and that of other students, for a while in an attempt to feel a bit more spry. Ian still had affectionate thoughts about the runes professor. Ian watched as the professor illustrated a bracelet and when the question was asked, Ian consulted his runes chart. He still wasn't quick at rune identification. He heard the other students answer and noticed that all the runes seemed to have been identified so Ian sat quietly waiting for the lesson to progress. |
With a return wave to Adi she shifted once more in her seat as the door opened yet again and in walked the Professor. He appeared to be in his right mind and Hady relaxed at this. As the Professor made his way to the front of the room and pulled an object from the box he was carrying Hady took out her quill, notebook and a piece of parchment. Sketching out the artifact onto her parchment with the runes on it she studied it a moment in silence. She really didn't know what they were or what they meant but that was okay because she was sure she'd find out very soon. |
SPOILER!!: Hady He hadn't asked for the sake of asking, he had truly wanted to know, and with the response Hady provided, he couldn't be more pleased. Or well, he could've, but alright wasn't bad. "Yeah, good, excellent, brilliant..." and he was out of adjectives. SPOILER!!: Adi Seeing Adi enter, Zeke returned the prefects wave. Hehe. HIIIIIII. SPOILER!!: Professor Botros! And there was the Professor! All normal and everything! Zeke sat up a little straighter in his seat, and listened as the lesson began. He DID have breakfasts, and he had snacks on his way here too, so he was definitely well fed. As for the artifact thing, and the runes thing... he was LOST. WAS THAT A LUCKY HORSE SHOE?!................ He could have sworn Emily mentioned Runes having strong magic and like protecting things or making them better... or stronger... or something. Maybe they made race horses faster? Still, he didn't know what was ON them, he'd only be guessing, but he could guess... couldn't he? Raising his hand, Zeke took a stab in the dark and offered a response of, "Isa?" He didn't specify which one, because he didn't have a clue... but it was a RANDOM GUESS. |
Quote:
"Correct, the two one on top of the circle is Jera." He gave her a warm smile. Quote:
... huh? Mordaunt was an excellent student, why did he say Eihwa-- oh. Oh. Botros got up, "That's correct, it is Eihwaz. But... that's not right." He forgot to take his potions this morning, he wasn't fully focused. This was embarrassing. Ab waved his wand and the illustration changed a little. Quote:
"Correct! The one that looks like a triangle is called Uruz. Very good." Glad to see the Gryffindor get better at runes at last! Quote:
Naw. "No, dear. Isa looks like a vertical stick, there is no Isa here." He looked back to make sure. |
SPOILER!!: This! Oh.....professor. It was good timing, too....because Gabe could focus on that guy and not think about sitting with CB. Not that he had a problem sitting there with CB.....It was just........Well, it wasn't about her being a girl......Other things. Right. He needed to take notes.....and NOT stress himself out. SPOILER!!: Runes notes! After writing a few things down, Gabe glanced around carefully before raising his hand. It was a bit shaky......but then he wasn't raising his hand because the board had been revised. That wasn't Eihwaz at all.....The professor got a curious look. SPOILER!!: Runes notes! " Sowilō ......." Gabe's tone was quizzical. Had that been a test? Erm....."It means 'sun'" |
Breakfast? Oh yeah. Adi had had a hearty one, thank ya very much. He was not going to suffer through a lesson again on an empty sstomach. Nope. He had learnt his lesson since the first Herbology class. The boy's interest was perked up when Botros started to talk about an artifact. What could it be? He eyed the illustration on the board. "Sowilo,'' he said as he raised a hand. Then he looked back down at his book, confirming the meanings. Jera meant harvest. Sowilo meant sun and Uruz meant strength. Erm...Did that mean that there was good harvest to come if there was sun and strength? Hmmm. |
Ethan's eyes narrowed at his notes when he heard that he got the answer wrong. Well, he was sure that he got it right. Surely, Botros isn't being King Botros, today? Ethan was about to defend his answer when the professor got up and changed the drawing. Oh so...the drawing was wrong. The new rune appeared and was about to answer when a Ravenclaw (Gabe) answered. Ethan turned to face the older kid and gave him a grin and a nod. Ethan then consulted his notes and changed the drawing on his parchment. Uruz, Jera, and Sowilo. Now, will they be engraving those on the plants' pots? Hm? |
AJ had remained silent on the first question because she honestly was a lost cause in Ancient Runes. It was one of her worst subjects. It was a hard pill for her to swallow because she quite liked being the best at everything, thank you very much. More runes, and AJ had to open her textbook. There was no way that she knew any of these off of the top of her head. Ummm... she finally found the runes in her book that resembled the runes on the board. AJ raised her hand. "Could it mean that sun is powerful and strong?" She was really going out on a limb here. |
Toby was so distracted. SO DISTRACTED. All twitching and twirling his quill between his fingers but dropping it about twelve billion times, and staring between the moving patch of sunlight on his desk and the windows, trying to work out exactly where it was coming from. His foot was still taptaptapping incessantly under the desk and the Hufflepuff was trying so hard to channel all his energies into that one movement so he could focus on this lesson. He'd skipped the first question, because he was still trying to get his focus back when it had been asked, but now he was determined to give it a shot. Gabriel Banner had already identified the rune, which left the other part of the question. Toby raised a hand, fingers fidgeting even as they were up in the air. "They're each sort of to do with positive change, and growth, and positive energy, and success and all that. A couple are for fertility. So altogether, they'd be good to like... help things grow and... maybe stay alive? Like..." Toby's eyes strayed over to the potted plants at the side of the room for the first time. He might have added 'like plants' at that point, but yeah, distracteeeeeeed. Because PLANTS. This was good. If this was a plants lesson, this was GOOD. Apparently having totally forgotten about not finishing the rest of his answer, Tobes went back to fidgeting with his quill and thinking about those PLANTS. |
The third year was scribbling away down in her notes as her favorite class was going on. She really enjoyed Ancient Runes & she definitely felt like Professor Botros was a very marvelous Professor & she thoroughly enjoyed his lessons. But today's lesson was certainly something of interest & she knew it was going to be rather peculiar when she had seen the long row of plants lined up. But what they would be used for was what she was curious about. And it was when the runes Professor Botros had written on the board & everyone answering which runes they were, did it start making sense to her. Like Toby had said, perhaps they were going to help the plants with growth? Right? Right? |
Zeke in here too ^^ Zeke had responded to her silent question and she'd have been content to roll with it until he DID show up...but then....he was going on about brushing her hair, like he didn't know better.... Lex's eyes narrowed some. "I've hexed people for less Zeke. My hair stays the way it is." Yes, the way it was, unkempt and in a messy bun like right now--though this morning it wasn't an unwillingness to try that got it like this but rather the Gryffindor over sleeping and having no time to dedicate to it. Still, her hair was fine the way it was thank you very much. She turned as the Professor entered the classroom and got something onto the board. This really WAS going to be a normal Runes class. Now she was kinda missing the fairytale one but only because they hadn't used a rune to blow anything up in the longest time. Could they maybe have Thor's hammer before she left? Just curious. Lex's attention was on the runes that her classmates called out. They'd said them all as she'd noted and it had her keeping quiet but then he added another. Yeah...oh wait people were already saying this one too. A part of her wanted to just maintain the silence but then...there was that one time back in her Second Year that she could remember and it had her offering an answer. "I'll go with what everyone else is saying." See what she did there? Answering the question without directly repeating everyone else. She. Was. Clever. |
Oh jeez, was he behind? How was this possible when the class had only JUST started? OH MAN. Sitting up straight, Grayson pulled his notebook closer towards him and pulled out a quill. What could the three runes together mean? Jera, Uruz and Sowilo, if that Ravenclaw was right. See, the boy couldn't think of an answer off the top of his head so he pulled the textbook closer towards him as well. Remembering all twenty four runes and what they meant was gonna be HARD, something he had realised from his studies. He wasn't even sure how people DID this normally. Was it possible? He doubted it. Flip......... flip........... flip............. Jera, Uruz and Sowilo........ thank Merlin they were allowed to use their textbooks. Really. "I agree with Toby," he started, looking up from his book and giving the boy a 'sup nod, "It's about growth that gives off a positive result. And what's interesting is that Jera and Sowilo can't be inverted." Definite positive change and whatnot. |
Kace was learning something interesting in this class. He was examining the runes and knew some of them. He knew Jera and Uruz. Kudos to him right? He copied down the shape of the like the horseshoe and copied the runes into it. SPOILER!!: Runes Notes Alright now onto the next question after he copied down all his notes. He heard the question but didn't quite understand it. He flipped through his textbook.... Flip....flip....flip....flip... He was about to speak but he heard his two fellow classmates Grayson and Toby give their answers and agreed with them. He nodded towards them and just stayed silent he didn't wanna repeat the same answer twice. "I agree with what Grayson and Toby said Professor.." he smiled just so he could at least speak during the class. |
Angel looked at the Professor and raised her hand and smiled. "Professor do they all when they are put together have something to do with Power." Angel wasn't sure if it was right or not but she was at least trying and had at least guest something right which was actually progress in her eyes. |
And right as Zander had sat down, Botros came in and suddenly the Gryffindor found himself lost... Again. How come Ancient Runes was always so confusing? He thought he knew what he was doing, but then he'd sit in on a lesson and everything would be all jumbled up again. ALSO, how come they spent an entire lesson looking for that Sebastian guy, but then they never talked about him ever again? Weird, huh? There was definitely something fishy going on around here. And it was probably all Romanos's fault. Anyways, when another question was asked, Zander didn't even bother to raise his hand, instead opting to race through his textbook. There ought to be some useful information in here somewhere... Or somewhere. Right as he found a rather useful looking page, he heard another student answer and welp, that was that. So maybe he'd just sit this round out and take some notes, yeah? Especially when Sophie's Toberson started talking because that was a lot to take in. |

"Correct! The third rune in this runic chain is Sowilo or Sowulo or Sowelo, all pronunciation is correct." He beamed at the Ravenclaw and the Hufflepuff who answered. Quote:

With a nod, Abraham gestured at both girls to show that they were on the right track. "Yeeees, that's good. This series of runes do convey power, but in what sense. I know it's difficult to tell when you have no idea what kind of artifact we're talking about, but I'm testing your expertise." He grinned, pleased with the result. Quote:

The professor snapped his fingers twice in excitement. "GREAT answers! It is all about the power of growth, and the fact that Swoilo and Jera cannot be inverted make this a very powerful chain of runes." He looked at the rest of the class excitedly as if his words made sense. "This chain of runes, my dears, is the Healing Charm." Oh dang, he needed some drumdrolls before he broke the news to class. "It is carved on the Healing Bracelet found in one of Egypt's ancient tombs. It's said that when invoked well, this bracelet can heal any malady." Botros looked at the blackboard with adoring eyes. |
Professor Botros was back to normal again, which was a good thing though it meant his lessons were once more confusing. At least when he was King Triton she got to have her hair brushed and pretend to be a mermaid Princess. Confused, Lux kept quiet and wrote down notes on what was being taught even if she didn't understand any of it. She really was not good at this class and needed all the help she could get when it came to understanding Runes. |
Benny watched quietly as class was begun, the arch of runes revealed by the professor. The carved shapes weren't unfamiliar since they were the runes talked about throught all their classes but the fourth year was having trouble identifying them individually. All he could seem to do was listen up as his classmates answered and copy them into his notes. Sowilo here...Jera there...Uruz the last of the trio, their meanings a blur even as Botros went over them. He did try his best at trying to draw it all so he had something for reference later on. But as the question went up for more runes to add, Benny flipped through his textbook. There had to be something. "Could Algiz be used?" he questioned after raising his hand. |
SPOILER!!: This! ....................................... Gabe flushed a bright red, ducking his face down into his notebook. He still wasn't used to being recognized....for being smart. Sure, he knew more than most others and that was, apparently, useful......but.... He sat quietly for a few moments, willing the heat in his face to subside......before carefully putting his quill back into position. Embarrassed or not, Gabe didn't wŕnt his notes to suffer. So, the additions began in earnest.....before he'd worked himself into answering again. His voice was a bit lower, as well. "Laguz...is water." Water had the ability to heal.....In fact, it was considered sacred in some Ancient cultures because of it. Blush. SPOILER!!: Runes notes! |
She was getting all of this, she was totally getting it. Nothing, nothing at all was happening in her head. AJ had her listening ears on, she did. It was just that runes were not her friend, and quite frankly she found them kind of boring. Sigh. For good measure AJ took some notes. It was true that all of the information was in her book, but maybe if she condensed the notes it would help her study down the road. Another rune? More flipping happened. Her fingers scanned the pages until she stopped on one that looked promising. "What about Ansuz? It's supposed to give you blessings, inspirations and stuff like that." It had to make the other runes more powerful when combined. Totes made sense to her. |
Even in his distracted state, Toby didn't missed the 'sup' nod from Grayson, to whom he smiled in return, and then Botros was getting super happy and peppy about his runes, which was totally awesome to see. And still Toby fidgeted with that darn quill of his, and still he tapped his foot. More runes then? Ummmm... the Hufflepuff thought for a moment, trying NOT to look at his book, because he wanted to try and remember this without any help, as practice for when he sat his OWLs. Eventually, he raised his hand. "Could argue, for, uhh... Hagalaz," he offered, now tapping the end of his quill on his parchment. "'Cause it can be used for removing unwanted or, like... destructive influences, which is technically what healing is. If it's in the Healing Charm, it could be used to remove the bad stuff so that the healing can happen and the positive can sort of... flourish?" Maybe? Maaaayyybbeeee? "And it can't be inverted either, I think, like Jera and Sowilo. So the Charm would still be all powerful, too." |
Adi scribbleeeed as Professor Botros spoke. Fascinating stuff this all was. And nothing to do with good harvesting that year or whatever it was that he was thinking with that brain of his. LOL. He paused from his note making, took a bit of time to think then raised his hand. "Maybe Dagaz, Professor.'' The rune had a correspondence with revelation and hope. Annnnd back to making notes. |
Angel was a bit confused but she knew something of the Fehu Rune, she raised her hand. "How about the Fehu rune?" Angel wasn't sure if it had been said yet or what the rune was about but she had heard of that rune all the other ones had gone so she thought she'd guess. |
Mm. No. Marigold scratched a clump of fuzz off of her robes for several minutes as she took notes. It wasn't that she wasn't trying, it was just this class was so hard for her she just found her focus drifting... ... She opened her eyes wide at the next question and sat straight up and prepared to take notes because she didn't know the answer. |
Runes. Runes were HARD to keep straight for this Sophie Brown, and she could only safely identify one rune on the artifact without second guessing herself - Jera, of course, for she had to study it for the last homework assignment. Luckily the others knew AND had good guesses about how they all worked together. Soph kept busy throughout this time, taking avid notes and glancing at Botros every now and then. She was STILL a little concerned that the man was late, though it DID seem like nothing was wrong when he entered. That didn't ease her worries too much, though, and she was still going to keep an eye on him. A bracelet that could heal ANY malady? THAT was way cool. What other runes could be added to the chain, though? Soph... wasn't really sure. She LOVED Tobes' answer, though, because he explained it so well and sounded so sure of himself AND he knew his stuff so well - he really was impressively knowledgeable - so he was probably right. The Ravenclaw nodded enthusiastically at his answer, looking between Tobes and Botros. YEP. THAT WAS A GOOD ANSWER, SIR. She agreed with that one. |
Kace was scribbling in his notes all what the professor was saying about each rune. Jera was the rune of change, Uruz is the rune of strength and Swolio is the rune of endless energy (the sun). Just plain and simple so he didn't have to copy SO much down. After he copied it down he heard the next question and wondered what other rune could match with them. Kace flipped through his notebook to find some. Flip.....flip....flip.....flip....flip. Once he found one that could work he raised his hand and offered, "Professor I think Eihwaz could work since it relates to strength and reliability and it is also the driving force to acquire, providing motivation and a sense of purpose." It seemed to fit for him. He only gave one though to let others find one. He found a second one but he figured he would stick to his first answer. |
Norah let her cheek fall onto her hand as she stared at the front of the room. Uhhhhh what? She tried to keep up with her note taking, but difficulty with spelling left the second year staring at the forward with her mouth hanging slightly open. Blinking slowly, she picked her quill up once again and began to scribble down more information. Sigh. |
SPOILER!!: Prof Botros .... Vertical stick. Right. Was that the technical term? Hehehee Zeke opened his text book in the whole of finding SOMETHING, ANYTHING that made sense. Cause, yeah, NO idea. SPOILER!!: Prof Botros again Riiiigghhtt... Swoilo, Uruz, Jera... uhuh... Zeke copied that down, and consulted the textbook so that he might be able to offer an idea. ANY idea. Guessing would pay off eventually, no? He scanned the pages for something that mentioned healing or health stuff... and VIOLA! Zeke's hand shot up into the air, "Teiwaz, Professor?" PLEASE SAY YEESSSS, he very much liked sounding smart. |
HUuuuuuh? The Gryffindor was torn between taking notes and trying to participate but this was all getting way too confusing for the Gryffindor. Maybe next round he'd step up and NEW QUESTION?! Okay. Gah. Again, he looked straight at his book and started flipping through the pages. He carefully skimmed through until he came across one rune that sounded pretty legitimate, Algiz. And right as he put his hand in the air, someone else had answered with that one. Okay nevermind. Putting hand back down. Back to searching... OH! Shooting his hand back up into the air again, the Gryffindor was going to answer with Hagalaz this time, but then right before he could be called on... Someone else answered it. Hm. This time, not sparing another moment, the Gryffindor again raised his hand in the air, "Wunjo?" he asked as he started skimming the small explanation. He hadn't even read about the rune yet, but wanted to say it before anyone else so that he wouldn't have to find yet another one! It was a perfect strategy and-- "Actually..... Nevermind," he quickly corrected himself after reading through the rest of the explanation and yeah. Okay. Maybe not Wunjo. Maybe not. |
SPOILER!!: Prof. Ian listened as things seemed to happen rapid fire all around him. People were answering questions, Professor Botros was getting kinda teary-eyed about runes and Ian wasn't feeling it. He was not do well today. He didn't know if maybe he ate too much at breakfast or what, but he felt kinda sluggish and a little bit nauseated. He tried his very best to keep up with the writing, but it was a struggle. Ian didn't like how he felt today. He was pleased to see his little buddy Zeke throw out one of the answers. |
This was a class Hady couldn't understand. Runes was difficult! Letting out a slow breath she shifted in her seat a bit and propped her chin in her hand as she listened to the Professor explain what the symbol on the board was. An bracelet that could heal was pretty dang cool but none of this made any sense to her at all. Chewing on her bottom lip she picked up her quill once more and continued to write down her notes making sure that everything was clear. She knew she'd need all this info again even if she didn't understand any of it. |
Quote:
"Algiz, it is the main rune of protection." Botros tapped his wand on his chin pondering this option. "I think it would be really hard to benefit from this rune's energy in the healing terms. It is possible, but you have to be really excellent to wield support and strength from Algiz opposed to protection." Unless he meant it to protect the bracelet from being tampered with... which was a very good idea. Quote:
Botros simply didn't hear the boy. He smiled at him encouragingly to raise his voice for this old man's ears to hear. Quote:
"Ansuz would be a good combination, yes. It can replace Jera, in my opinion, Ansuz is the father rune of other runes, some might say." He beamed at her. Quote:
Aaah, "Great answer, Tobias, absolutely great and merely for the explanation you offered." Botros gave him a light clap of his own. "As for Hagalaz, if you manage to invoke it with that intention clear in your mind, then I'm sure it will serve the purpose you want it to serve." He nodded. Great answer. Quote:
"Dagaz helps us get an effective result, yes." He nodded with a smile. Quote:
"Hmmm. If you could explain more why, dear." He wanted to know the way his students' minds worked. Quote:
"Yes, great answer! Eihwaz, in the explanation that you provided, would be a great contribution to this healing charm." Kudos to the Hufflepuff! Quote:
"Teiwaz's another great answer!" Botros beamed at the boy. "It can strengthen the chain as well, just as Uruz does. Its only weakness if that it can be inverted, and that makes it less stable than Uruz." Which was why the ancient people used Uruz instead of Teiwaz. Quote:
"Wunjo is not a bad option at all." Ab smiled softly. "It can be invoked with the will and intention of giving credibility to the other runes' work. It can guarantee their success, if I daresay. But again, its ability to be inverted makes it unstable and thus could break the chain of runes pretty easily." Still a good answer. |
Angel listened to the Professor and decided to explain some more, she raised her hand. "Professor the Fehu means wealth and money, which is what everyone needs if they want power." Angel was sure of that, the more money you had the better luck you have. Angel looked at the Professor again and raised her hand. "Professor, maybe we do some sort of chant?" Angel wasn't sure but she thought that it was so cool if they did. |
Oh so that was meant for healing then? Well, she could think of a few people that needed it carved into their head. If it never healed them at least it'd get rid of them depending on what you carved with. A win win for her really. Alexa studied the runes while the others gave suggestions as to what they might be able to add to the bracelet to make it more effective but she remained quiet as the others gave their opinions because she was busy going through it all in her head, figuring how they all worked together the way they did to bring healing. See? Sometimes it wasn't that she spaced out but rather that she was actually considering the topic to be discussed, though it wasn't always easy to tell the difference, like now with her emotionless stare that could pass for one of someone with a blank mind somewhere off in a daydream but NO SIR she was concentrating real good and he should have been proud of her silence. Remember the days when she used to be disruptive??? Exactly. The silence was however broken at the Professor's next question. "What Angel said. You just have to chant is all." Unless there was some new super secret method that he'd neglected to share at some point in her earlier life. Looks for you Professor Botros. |
Toby smiled, because Botros had LIKED his answer, and Toby couldn't help but feel more positive upon hearing praise from professors, especially this one. As for the next question, it had already been answered, but the Hufflepuff raised his hand again just to add the other detail. "The galdrs of the runes, sir." As in, that was what was chanted. If they were doing this, it was great practice; Toby had recently memorised almost all of the galdrs and any practice he good get was golden. |
So, Dagaz could be used. Cool! Adi scribbled down this rune as well as the others that Professor Botros had confirmed. For the next question, he didn't need to ponder too much for an answer. Hand up, the Hufflepuff responded, "By chanting the galdr of the runes.'' Or definitely some form of a chant if not the galdrs. He was sure of it. |
Soph was pleased that Botros was pleased with Toby's reply, too, and then she got excited because she actually KNEW this next answer. Others were quick to give their answers, but the Ravenclaw raised a hand anyway. She would give VALUABLE INPUT, mhm. "To activate runes, y'gotta chant the galdr, which is a fancy-shmancy sounding word that means spell... or incantation." Which she hadn't KNOWN for awhile and wondered what a galdr was and why it was called that and WHY it was so special... but being told that it was just a cooler word for incantation made the word a lot less intimidating. So she explained a little. Just so the younger ones KNEW. |
........................ So Ancient Runes was hard. No. Really. It was. Grayson stared down at his notebook and then at the textbook in front of him. MAN. Was he just behind or what? It felt like it. Like he wasn't tuned into this lesson and whatnot. It reminded him all too much of things he didn't want to remember back in Beauxbatons, which caused his neutral facial expression to twist itself into a small scowl. .................... Whatever. Like he could STRUGGLE. Jeez. What was he, SOFT? ANYWAYS. "The galdr. Yeah. It makes the runes glow and you feel their magical energy." Like they had with the torches back in the previous year. He'd remembered the way they had to keep on chanting the Kenaz rune -- it HAD been Kenaz, hadn't it? -- just to keep the torches lit as they made their way outside in the freakshow that was the weather. See? If Kenaz came up in his OWLs, he was SURE going to be able to show off his smarts. What an easy question, too. He liked that. |
Ian listened to the professor speak to the provided answers. He still didn't feel well (perhaps breakfast would have helped). He scribbled furiously as the others spoke and the professor responded. Finally, the professor asked how the runes were activated since they would just use what the ancients had determined. He heard what he believed to be the correct answer and he didn't think it necessary to repeat, so he just scribbled some more as he wrote his notes. |
Kace was glad his first answer was right. He smiled and nodded towards the professor. But now onto another question and he was gonna answer but his fellow classmates beat him to it. Why bother repeating what they said. He kept quiet and doodled in his notebook. He wondered what activity they were going to do with learning about all these runes. |
Continuing to write notes, Lux was thrilled when there was finally a question being asked that she knew the answer to. They did this every time a rune was activated, so it was pretty easy. Raising her hand, she said, "you need to chant the galdr." |
She got one, she got one. Granted, she had to look for the answer in her textbook, but it still counted. AJ was still confused, but she was feeling a teensy bit better about it all now. Amazing how hearing you were right could change your entire mood. Ohhh, AJ knew this one too. She didn't even have to look into the book to figure that out. Chant, chant, chant. You had to chaaaaant. "Professor, you can't just chant, you have to REALLY mean it. You need to focus AND believe." That was important. |
Caleb still didn't really get the appeal of Runes, but he'd been thinking more about being an Auror lately - since he'd had the dream since he could like, walk and stuff. Maybe runes would actually be helpful in that profession. SO he was trying to focus a bit more on that class, just for future reference. He'd rather be safe than sorry! He raised his hand to answer the professor's question. "You chant, but you also have to focus. If you're just saying WORDS it doesn't really do much. You have to really have the intent behind it," he explained. Sort of like an unforgivable curse, right? |
SPOILER!!: This! Gabriel hadn't considered the professor's old age or poor hearing; flushing brightly as he repeated his answer louder.........also accompanied by a milder version of his stutter. "I said Laguz, s-sir..." Throat clearing. "...It means water....and water is, um, considered sacred...in a few....Ancient cultures." Guh....for healing reasons. Like with the Macrobians, Ponce de León, and the Fountain of Youth. They believed their regular bathing in the Fountain's waters kept them looking young and caused them to live longer...which seemed stupid to Gabe. Living longer than was normal meant outliving people you knew...and that in turn, meant having to get comfortable with a completely different set of individuals. It caused him anxiety just to consider it......UNLESS you chose to live as a recluse...which didn't really work out in the long run because Gabe had been trying to do this since he'd turned eleven and someone seemed to always be there to bother him. ALWAYS. Large family problems; there was nothing he disliked more.....sans girls. When the next question came up, he chose to remain silent...opting to update his notes instead. SPOILER!!: Runes notes! Actually....scratch that. He wasn't going to get over his anxiety that way...and he really wanted to get over it. The anxiety, he meant. "There are...different......uh, galdr chants for each rune..........to go with their, um, answers." HAND GESTURE TO THOSE WHO ANSWERED. |
OH OH OH!!!!!! He'd guessed right!!!! SUCCESS!.. as for all the clarifying stuff the Professor added to his answer, well, he had no idea what it all meant, he just grinned and nodded along. He'd pick it up eventually. All the talk of making the Runes and the magic come to life and stuff though, now that was interesting. How it was done, he didn't have a clue... best to sit and listen and get GIVEN the answer this time. He only made guesses when the odds were in his favour. At this stage, anything he might come up with would have a 98% chance of making him sound stupid. Not good odds at all. So Professor Botros, what be the answer? Hmmmmm? This little Gryffindor is all ears. |
To say that Hadleigh was already lost would've been a complete understatement. She was beyond lost with all this talk of the different runes and how they came together to make the healing work. NONE is it made any sense to her. Even though she was way out of her element here with this stuff she didn't let her confusion show and continued to take detailed notes. Cause notes were good and she'd need them at some point. Plus right now note taking was all Hady could do as there was noway she'd be trying to answer this question. Anything she might have guessed would've been way off and she would've looked like a fool. And being a fool is one thing she wouldn't allow to happen. |
So.... He wasn't wrong? AH! Zander couldn't help but smile just a little because Ancient Runes was hard and he was actually sort of kind of getting it now. Sort of? But anyways, once the next question was asked Zander flipped through his book once again just to find the galdrs they were looking for. Once he found the page, he looked back up at his Professor and also stole tiny glances around the rest of the room. Everyone had already answered that they had to use the galdrs so he wouldn't be repetitive. BUT, he wasn't exactly sure if Botros wanted them to mention what the specific galdrs were. So he stayed quiet about that too. He had his book open though, if that counted for anything? |

"Good, good. Yes. In order to activate the runes and make their energy and magic flow through, we have to chant an incantation, something like a spell for each rune. You can find it under Galdrs in your textbook. Those spells and incantations are called Galdrs." Quote:
Quote:
Quote:
"Exactly! Great answers!" He beamed at all of those, and looked at the younger students to pay attention. "When we chant those Galdrs, just like the regular charms we need to summon a very clear intention, we must have the will to invoke this rune's energy." Yeah? Yeah. |
Post 1 Would you look at that, they were replicating the healing bracelet. Was there some hidden point in this? Like the term Professor Lafay made them brew their own antidote for when they had that happy!ice-cream problem? Hadn't that been something, especially when the class started considering the ingredients she had them adding. Lithe river water raised eyebrows, always. Lex took one of the bracelets then drew Airey's wand from her holster. Any day now the Professor would be fed up of her borrowing his wand but it wasn't her fault someone had gone and made off with hers. Wasn't even like people were telling her where to find it after so she was stuck in this fix with a wand that liked her only half the time. Here's to hoping this was one of those times when the wand would actually cooperate. Alexa pointed to the point at the top centre of the bracelet to start on the first ruin. "Intaglio sowilo sowilo sowilo...Intaglio sowilo sowilo sowilo." Going in a clockwise direction, the next rune to be carved Jera and she got right on it. "Intaglio jera jera jera jera...Intaglio jera jera jera..." No practising on her parchment first. She already KNEW what these runes were meant to look like thank you very much. Next in sequence, the other sowilo that she'd need to get carved. "Intaglio sowilo sowilo sowilo sowilo...Intaglio sowilo sowilo sowilo." Admittedly...that one didn't turn out as great as it could have but that was the wand's fault. Her's was perfectly obedient, this one did what it wanted sometimes and she didn't really appreciate that at a time when she had runes to carve. Speaking of runes that needed carving....Uruz would be next. "Intaglio uruz uruz uruz uruz....Intaglio uruz uruz uruz." Annnnnd back to sowilo. "Intaglio sowilo sowilo sowilo sowilo....Intaglio sowilo sowilo sowilo." |
Ian watched as the professor worked through what they would be doing for a bit. This actually was one of the favorite things he did in this clas, carving runes. Ian did as instructed, observing the professor as he demonstrated with swolio. Ian wanted to make sure that he had the runes copted correctly in his notes so he would get the order correct. Satisfied that he was correct, he began practicing the runes on his parchment, in order. |
Post 1 Time for practicing the runes now. He went up to the front of the room and got his bronze bracelets. He was gonna have to carve runes into these? Well he had done it before. But before he got his wand out he was gonna practice saying the runes first. He checked his notebook first for the runes he would be using for this activity. He needed to use the runes Sowilo, Uruz and Jera. That seemed simple enough. Then he copied down the incantation used for the chanting. Intaglio it was. He said it like the professor said it, "IN-TA-LEO." Alright he had that down. Now to say it a few more times. "In-ta-leo....In-ta-leo....In-ta-leo....In-ta-leo....In-ta-leo....In-ta-leo...." He was getting the hang of it. Now to put it together. "Intaglio....Intaglio.....Intaglio.....Intaglio... Intaglio." He smiled and was feeling confident. Now to practice those runes. He flipped through his books to find the runes. He found Sowlio. Since he found that first he would practice it. "Sowilo....Sowilo....Sowilo....Sowilo....Sowilo... Sowilo....Sowilo." Now onto the next set of runes. He quietly said "Uruz....Uruz...Uruz.. and...Jera....Jera.....Jera....Jera....Jera..." It was time to put the casting to the test. |
Post 1: Practicing Uh........? So, when it came to runes and theories involving runes, Gabriel would O every test...but the thing was...Well... He'd never, technically, carved a rune before......into anything. Needless to say, Gabe was pretty intimidated...but before the panic attack could fully begin, he took a time out; reminding himself to breathe it out. Logically speaking, how hard could it be? He would be saying a spell, followed by the rune name.....whilst visualizing it. From a technical standpoint, it didn't sound like much work...or that difficult. Swallowing thickly, he slowly got out his wand and eyed the spell written in his notes. "Integlia." No, that wasn't right. He did some throat clearing. "INTAGLIO." .......And the motion was just tracing out the rune.....Okay. Gabe was kinda ready to try. NO, no.....he WAS ready. He needed to be more confident.....though, he did not feel the least bit confident. His cheeks flamed as he began with the first rune: Sowilō . SPOILER!!: Runes notes! |
Post 1 Activity time! Adi got one of the bronze bracelets for himself from the old man. "Thanks, Professor.'' He set it one his desk then got his wand. He didn't think he would need to practice drawing the runes first. He would just go straight for the carving. "Intaglio...Intaglio...Intaglio...'' he muttered for practice. Yep, he had gotten the hang of that fast. Adi pointed his wand at the bracelet's top. "Intaglio Sowilo...Sowilo...Sowilo...Sowilo...Sowilo..." He smiled to himself. One neatly carved Sowilo rune. Jera was next. "Intaglio Jera...Jera...Jera...Jera...Jera...'' One Jera rune on the left side of the bracelet. The Hufflepuff repeated the step so that there was now a Jera rune carved on the right side as well. Then he did the same for Sowilo again, carving the rune on both sides of the bracelet just as they were on the blackboard. So far so good. |
Post #1 Making their own runic bracelets? Bring it on! Grayson grabbed a bronze bracelet for himself and turned it over in his hands. This thing was rather ugly, to say the least. And it reminded him of some sort of ancient artefact you'd find in the hands of an old dude who loved history so much. Really. He wouldn't be seen dead in a bracelet like this but if it was gonna give them healing powers......... ............. WELL. "Intaglio........ IN-TA-LEO........ IN-TA-LEO....... IN-TA-LEO....." Practice and all. "IN-TA-LEO........ IN-TA-LEO......... INTAGLIO...... INTAGLIO........" And what was the wand movement? Just moving his wand around in the shape of the rune he was trying to carve? Dead easy. Especially since the runes didn't have any curved edges. Thank Merlin for that. First one? Sowilo. "Intaglio Sowilo...... Sowilo....... Sowilo........ Sowilo......" he called, moving his wand around in the shape of the Sowilo rune, "Sowilo....... Sowilo....... Sowilo....... " This was hard work, you know? And the boy was starting to think that this would NEVER work. How many times had other people managed to say the name of the rune before it was carved into their bracelet? The fifth year continued chanting and saying the name of the rune until...... THERE! One Sowilo rune neatly carved onto his bracelet. Did he feel proud? YOU BETCHA. |
Post 2 With one side of the bracelet taken care of, Lex moved back to the first rune she'd carved, the one in the dead centre. From here she'd simply go in an anti-clockwise motion to get the runes on the other side then she'd be done this activity. It wasn't very hard, truly. This would make her 6th year of rune carving things done in classes. By now she was almost sure she could do this in her sleep. It was like learning to write, if you did it enough you didn't even notice it anymore. Starting off with Jera like on the other side, she took aim, squinting just a little. The left was always a bit harder. "Intaglio jera jera jera jera jera....intaglio jera jera jera jera..." With the last strike of her wand made, the rune was now visible against the bronze metal of the bracelet like it's counterparts on the other side. Not too shabby either. Looking to the board again, she saw that the next rune would be sowilo. It was probably the easiest one to carve of the three for the fact it was three lines and didn't need that much detail and care. "Intaglio sowilo sowilo sowilo sowilo sowilo...Intaglio sowilo sowilo sowilo..." THERE, taken care of with far less effort than she'd used with the Jera just now and she could quickly move on to being almost done. Uruz was next in this obvious pattern. Did the pattern and order of runes really matter? She might ask later... "Intaglio uruz uruz uruz uruz....Intaglio uruz uruz uruz uruz..." Without looking at the board, she could easily deduce that the next rune would be sowilo. All you really had to do was look at the pattern thus far. It didn't lie. The next and last rune she'd be carving was sowilo. "Intaglio sowilo sowilo sowilo sowilo sowilo....Intaglio sowilo sowilo sowilo sowilo..." Oh and lookit that, now she was proper done and waiting. That didn't take too long. |
Post 1 Awesome, it was activity time. Lux seemed to do better with the hands on work when it came to this class than with the more theoretical stuff. Grabbing a bronze bracelet, she smiled. Jewellery was always nice, and this one would have Runes carved into it which was awesome. She already had a necklace with a protection Rune carved into it. Bay had given her the charm at her birthday party a few hours after he had asked her out, and she had placed it on a chain soon after. She loved it as much as the other necklace he had given her and wore them both every day. Before jumping right to the carving, she decided that a refresher would be a good idea. "Intaglio... Intaglio... Intaglio..." That was quite easy, so after a few minutes she was ready to begin carving the Runes. Pointing her wand at the bracelet, she focused all her attention on the shape that she wanted to carve into it. "Intaglio Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo..." Once the Rune had been carved perfectly, she stopped. Now it was time for her to move on to the next Rune. |
Post 1 Practicing drawing the rune with her quill first was probably a good idea, but she just flat didn't feel like doing it. Just because she was able to get a drawing right on paper didn't mean that she would be able to get it done with her wand. AJ just figured that would waste valuable time for her. She would however practice the incantation first like a good little student. Intaglio. That wasn't such a hard word. "Intaglio... In-tag-lio... Intaglio." After awhile it started to roll off her tongue nicely. It was time to give it a go. Intaglio Sowilo." Nope. She WAS being clear and everything. At least she thought she was. Intaglio Sowilo... Sowilo...Sowilo." Finally after several attempts she had a nice little rune carved on her bracelet. Awesome. One down, and two more to go. |
Post 2 "Intaglio Uruz...Uruz...Uruz...Uruz...'' Adi repeated, now carving the Uruz rune on the left side of the bracelet. "Intaglio Uruz...Uruz...Uruz...Uruz..." Another carving appeared, this time on the right side. Now to finish off things. "Intaglio Sowlio...Sowilo...Sowilo...Sowilo...Sowilo...'' The Hufflepuff repeated the exact process and chanting and soon after there were Sowilo runes carved on both sides of the bracelet. |
Time to put the runes onto the bracelets. He said out loud the runes and knew how to pronounce them. He got his wand from his robes and looked at his notebook and started on the Sowlio rune first. He got his wand out and said the chanting charm first, "Intalio Sowilo.." he casted but nothing came out. He stood there giving his bracelet a quizzical look. He heard the other student pronouncing it and realized he goofed up. He chuckled to himself and redid it. He got his wand at the ready and said, "Intaglio Sowilo....Sowilo....Sowilo....Sowilo....Sowilo.... Sowilo....Sowilo...." he saw the rune being carved into his bracelet on the bottom left. He was pleased with himself. Now onto the second rune Jera. He got his wand out and started with the chanting of Jera. "Intaglio Jera....Jera....Jera.....Jera.....Jera....Jera...J era...." he saw looking at he saw the rune being carved but not too deep yet. He kept chanting, "Intaglio Jera...Jera....Jera....Jera....Jera....Jera...." and with the wave of his wand and stopped, it looked better than his first one! He was getting the hang of it! |
Post 1 The Gryffindor raised an eyebrow at the sight of the bracelets. He wasn't really sure what they were going to do with them, but normally an explanation always followed so he sat and waited for that. Explanation were good and all, considering this was Ancient Runes aka a subject he never felt completely sure of himself in. But well, then again... What subject did he feel completely sure of himself in? Used to be herbology, but then... Yeah. Nevermind. See? Totally focused. And also vigorously taking notes. Yep. ... Carving the runes into the-- oh. So that's what the bracelet was for. Taking a couple more minutes to scribble down the rest, he then looked up to notice that some older students had already gotten started! What was that incantation again? See, this is why he took notes. Heh. Could be Ravenclaw material right here guys. "IN-TA-LEO??" He tried slowly. "IN-TA-LEO..... IN-TA-LEO....? IN-TA-LEO!" Okay wasn't too bad. It actually kind of rolled of the tongue a little? Well, a little. And as for the next part, "Intaglio Swoilo Swoilo Swoilo Swoilo Swoilo... Swoilo... Swoilo... Swoilo???" WAS IT WORKING? Sort of. The carving was still pretty light though. And Professor Botros said it had to be perfect. So here goes nothing, "Intaglio Swoilo Swoilo Swoilo Swoilo....!" That looked just about right. Right? |
Post 1 Right the gladr. And they would be carving their own bracelets, the fourth year receiving one from the professor as Botros moved around the room. Benny wasn't to sure his would be any help...to him. At this point he was nervous that he'd not have a chance to be successful with the carving when the drawing itself seemed too much. The boy glancing between the original circle and the ones in his book to compare them too. He bit the inside of his cheek before figuring to practice the incantation first. Sure he had already used it at least once in a class but he was double-checking his knowledge and ability. His recent issues having set him back in trusting himself at least in this class and others of the more heady type. "Intaglio....Intaglio.....Intaglio.....Intagli o" Then he went back to moving his quill in the shape of the first rune...sowilo before exchanging quill for wand when he chanced he might be ready to at least give it a shot. "Intaglio Sowilo...Sowilo...Sowilo...Sowilo...Sowilo" It took several shots but eventually it looked sort of like the ruin. Would it pass? |
Post 2 With his first carving done, he looked back over to the board to figure out which was supposed to come next. It looked like a triangle which had to mean.... Uruz? And uh, hopefully that was right. So taking a deep breath, the Gryffindor held the bracelet up with one hand and wand in the other. "Intaglio Uruz...Uruz...Uruz...Uruz... Intaglio Uruz....Uruz...Uruz..." And that one actually looked good!! Granted, it may have been because this one was a much easier shape than Sowilo was. Much more straight forward, you know? And then it was back to Sowilo again. Maybe he should've practiced the shape before his first go, but after having down the first Sowilo he really saw no need for this time around. "Intaglio Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo. Intaglio Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo!" And he was starting to get a little more confident in his runic abilities, yet his carving still wasn't 100% perfect. Hopefully it'd be okay though. It still looked like Sowilo. Which then brought it to the most complicated looking one. Jera. Darn. Again, opting not to practice-- whoops-- he lifted the bracelet once more. Intaglio Jera...Jera....Jera...Jera..Jera" Deep breath. "Intaglio Jera...Jera.....Jera...Jera!!" And right back to Sowilo. "Intaglio Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo." His Sowilo's were finally starting to look perfected now though, after having done it two other times. Intaglio Jera...Jera....Jera...Jera..Jera" Deep breath. "Intaglio Jera...Jera.....Jera...Jera!!" What was next? Right. You guessed it! Sowilo."Intaglio Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo." And he was almost done at this point. "Intaglio Uruz...Uruz...Uruz...Uruz... Intaglio Uruz....Uruz...Uruz..." He held his bracelet up in front of himself just to admire the work thus far, before looking back down at it again with wand held in hand. And the very last one. "Intaglio Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo. Intaglio Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo!" He repeated this last one a few extra times just for good measure. |
Post 2 One carving done and eight more to go. It seemed like a lot to Lux, but she supposed it wasn't too bad when the whole thing was composed of a total of three different Runes. The next one that she needed to work on was Uruz. With her wand at the ready, she started working on the next carving. "Intaglio Uruz... Uruz... Uruz... Uruz... Uruz..." She didn't stop until the shape was perfectly etched into the bracelet. Next was another Sowilo. "Intaglio Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo..." She was getting more and more confident as she worked. It had been a while since she worked on carving Runes into anything, and more practice was always welcome. The next Rune that she needed to carve was Jera. "Intaglio Jera... Jera... Jera..." After she was finished carving that one she took a deep breath. All the chanting started to get to you after a little while. "Intaglio Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo..." She was more than half way done and smiled to herself as she moved her wand to the next spot on her bracelet. "Intaglio Jera... Jera... Jera..." Now it was time for her to carve the second last Sowilo, which was nice since there seemed to be a lot of them. "Intaglio Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo." Another deep breath. "Intaglio Uruz... Uruz... Uruz..." She was on the last Rune now. Yay! "Intaglio Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo... Sowilo..." Pleased with herself, she waited for the next instructions as she looked at her bracelet. She had done a pretty good job in her opinion. |
1 Tobias looked up as Botros went by his desk, and took one of those bronze bracelets for himself. While the professor went on explaining what they were doing, the fifth year practiced drawing out the three runes in his notes, though he already knew them well enough. Something to keep preoccupied with before starting, right? And still, his foot tapped. Intaglio, Toby was quite familiar with the spell, had used it plenty of times before, and was fairly confident in his ability with this today. He still noted the spell and everything down in his notes, though, because he always found the repetition in his notes to be very beneficial. After watching Botros' demonstration, Toby retrieved his wand from the holster Soph had gotten him for Christmas, and started to get to work. Same runes, same order, right. Toby checked the board again, just to make sure he'd copied down what the artifact looked like exactly, and yep. All in order. Sowilo first then, as it seemed like the most logical place to start. Toby raised his wand, squinted at the bracelet, and started carving. "Intaglio Sowilo Sowilo-" one line was complete "-Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo-" aaaaand the second. "-Sowilo Sowilo." And there it was, one Sowilo rune carved into the bronze band. Toby briefly considered leaving a space for Uruz and doing the next Sowilo rune now, but quickly decided it would be smarter to carve them all in the order that they appeared, lest he make a mistake and run out of room later or something. "Intaglio Uruz Uruz Uruz Uruz Uruz..." Over and over he repeated the name of the run, until eventually that was neatly carved beside the first one. Without missing a beat, Toby made the most of this focus on the runes and started to carve the next rune as well. "Intaglio Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo." The Hufflepuff paused and leant back for a moment, stretching out his arms in front of him and sort of waggling his fingers because all this sitting still was starting to make him more twitchy and fidgety again. If recent years were anything to go by, Toby knew he'd only have a limited amount of time to finish carving these runes before his fidgeting and distractedness started to effect how steady his hand was (and, by extension, how neatly the runes would be carved). So. Back to business. "Intaglio Jera Jera Jera Jera..." A pause, because this rune was in two unconnected parts, and Toby needed to momentarily stop carving to get the next bit. "Intaglio Jera Jera Jera Jera." Yep yep yep, all seemed good here. Toby took a breath and moved the bracelet just a tad so he'd get a better aim at it, before beginning to carve rune number five. "Intaglio Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo..." |
#1 THEY WERE RUNE CARVING!!! Okay, he was totally cool with this. The whole understanding how they worked could come later, but this hands on stuff he could do. "Thanks, Professor," he murmured automatically as he received his bronze bangle bracelet thing. The first thing he did, was definitely practice drawing on his parchment first, cause he didn't want to stuff up his bracelet. Nope. Once he was confident (because it was a few easy lines, right?) then he took his bracelet and his wand and... gulp. Here went nothing... "Intaglio Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo..." he chanted as he focused his attention intently on his bracelet, a clear image of the rune in mind. Slowly, but surely, it formed!!!! HE DID IT!!!... But just to touch it up, "Intaglio Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo." It was hard, like, the shape of the bracelet and all, BUT, he figured he was doing it right. The next rune in order was.... URUZ! After glancing at his parchment, and the board, and his parchment again... Zeke took to his work once more. "Intaglio Uruz, Uruz, Uruz, Uruz..." the lines were forming, becoming deeper, "Uruz, Uruz." Content with his work, Zeke beamed to himself. Weeeeeeeeeeee! CARVING WAS FUN! Of course, there were LOTS of Sowilo's, so he had to repeat that process again. This was easy enough, having done it once already. And by the time he was through, he was sure he'd be a complete PRO at carving Sowilo. "Intaglio Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera," he repeated the incantation as he set to work on the next rune in the long line of runes he still had to carve. The shape was different, but the process was the same, and he felt VERY comfortable with the process at this stage. That being said, Jera was a HARDER shape to draw and so it took him a little more concentration to do it proper. |
Post 1 Sam repeated the incantation "Intaglio" in her mind a few times before beginning her work on the bronze bracelet. She pointed her wand and drew the shape of the rune Sowilo as she said the incantation "Intaglio Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo" until the rune was cast on the bracelet. Next was the Uruz rune so Sam moved her wand in the shape of the rune and said, "Intaglio Uruz, Uruz, Uruz, Uruz, Uruz, Uruz," until the rune appeared on the bracelet. She repated the process she had performed for the Sowilo rune until a second Sowlio rune appeared on the bracelet. Next was Jera so she said, "Intaglio Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera," as she drew the shape of the rune via her wand until the rune adorned the bracelet. |
Post 1 - Getting started Carve runes? They were going to carve runes into a bracelet for healing. Hady let out a breath and lowered her eyes to the table for several brief seconds. It would be alright really all she had to do was practice the spell and know the shapes. Both weren't exactly hard but she wasn't sure how'd she'd do with it. First things first though. Accepting the bracelet from the Professor with a quiet 'thanks' she focused her attention on the bracelet in her hand. That was until the Professor began explaining what to do. Grabbing up her quill she copied down each drawing several times until she was sure she knew what each looked like. That done she pulled out her wand as she practiced the spell under her breath. "In-ta-leo...in-ta-leo." Now that she had both the drawings down and the spell she thought she was ready to get started. Intent and focus. Clearing her mind to only the activity at hand she picked up her bracelet in one hand and the wand in the other. With a glance at her parchment she knew Sowilo was first. Pointing her wand at the bracelet she began with true intent and focus. "Intaglio Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo..." She must have been doing something right so far as she watched the rune began to carve itself into the bracelet. A bit more and she'd be done. "Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo." Done! One down and a zillion more to go. |
#2 Zeke was on a roll, he was.... almost half way. That was about as much of a roll as he could be on at this stage, but with his eye on the time, he knew he had to get it done before the next activity. Consulting his parchment again for the rune order, he noted the next on his bracelet. Sowilo again. Could he say, that Sowilo was starting to get annoying? PLEASE? Cause it was. Nevertheless, he started to carve the rune. "Intaglio Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo." Once the lines formed the shape and he was satisfied, he stopped carving and checked which rune came next. It was a good thing it was all in a pattern, even if it was repetitive. "Intaglio Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera." Again his focus was greater with this complex shape, but in the end he succeeded in carving it neatly onto his thin bracelet. Seriously dude, it was SO GOOD that he didn't have poor vision or needed glasses, cause... yeah. After YET ANOTHER Sowilo, Zeke was 100% certain he never wanted to see the rune again. It even SOUNDED annoying as he chanted it. Uruz followed, and his runic bracelet was almost complete. Almost! "Intaglio Uruz, Uruz, Uruz, Uruz, Uruz." ... .... The last rune, which was the same as the first, which was ANNOYING as all hell.... Sowilo. Zeke had mixed emotions. Annoyed he still had to perform it one more time, but relieved that it would be over. "Intaglio Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo." And there. THERE! He was DONE! ... Never again with Sowilo. NEVER. |
Post 2 Sam continued her runic jewellery work. She used her wand to draw the shape of the rune 'Sowilo' as she said, "Intaglio Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo," until the rune was embellished onto the bracelet. Sam then added the rune 'Jera' via the incantation "Intaglio Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera." Next she added the rune 'Sowilo' followed by "Intaglio Uruz, Uruz, Uruz, Uruz, Uruz." She was nearly done. Sam took a couple of seconds rest and then added the final rune. "Intaglio Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo." Finally she had completed the bracelet. She twirled it in her two fingers making sure she had performed the task properly. It seemed like she had. |
Post #2 Jeez, this was long. Next one? Uruz? Grayson picked up his wand and tried to trace the shape of the rune over and over the place he wanted the rune to appear before saying, "Intaglio Uruz..... Uruz....... Uruz..... Uruz......" Was something appearing? Yeah? No? "Uruz....... Uruz..... Uruz...... Uruz....." A faint, almost triangular shape started appearing as he had chanted the spell and, before long, grew brighter and deeper until....... ........... Oh snap! He had another RUNE on there! Dead chuffed, he was. Uh huh. Rolling up his sleeves, the boy glanced back over at the board. Sowilo? Sowilo. "Intaglio Sowilo....... Sowilo...... Sowilo...... Sowilo........ Sowilo....." Was it just him or was the rune starting to appear sooner than it had the first time? Was he getting better at this? He liked to think SO. Once the third rune had been carved into the bracelet, the boy cleared his throat and moved on. No need for an early celebration when there was a bit to go. "Intaglio Jera....... Jera....... Jera...... Jera......" So this one was harder. Was it because of the shape? The fact that there were two sections to this rune? MAN! "Jera..... Jera....... Jera........ Jera....." The chant continued for a bit longer until he was sure that that symbol over there was the Jera one and he wasn't simply imagining things. And to seal it all off........ "Intaglio Sowilo...... Sowilo......... Sowilo..... Sowilo...... Sowilo......" See, Sowilo was MUCH better. Practice and all. He'd hardly had to chant much of the spell before the rune started appearing on the bracelet. Maybe Sowilo was his rune, even if it was the happy-go-lucky type that said too many positive things for the boy. Was he done? Please say yes. ........... Oh MAN. Was he only halfway through? ONLY?! "Intaglio Jera........ Jera......... Jera....... Jera......." This one took a long time and he wasn't surprised, frankly. "Jera......... Jera...... Jera..... Jera........ Jera......." THERE! "Intaglio Sowilo..... Sowilo........ Sowilo...... Sowilo......." SEE? Sowilo was easy to cast. Why couldn't the others cooperate just as well? HMMMMM? "Intaglio Uruz...... Uruz........ Uruz...... Uruz....... Uruz...... Uruz......" His wrist felt like it was going to fall off at this rate. Too much casting and too much carving. But he only had one more to go so Grayson cleared his throat before continuing, "Intaglio Sowilo......... Sowilo..... Sowilo....... Sowilo......." SWEET! Was he done? HE WAS DONE. Freaking FINALLY. |
