Okay, so...Kenaz. Sophie listened to the explanation of what they were going to do today. For once, Ancient Runes didn't seem so hard to her, but that may be because she was paying more attention. She opened her runestone set and found Kenaz. She placed the stone in the palm of her hand then placed her wand in the same hand. She checked to make sure one was on top of the other, just as the professor had done. Someone passed her a torch then, so she was all set to go. "kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk... kaunnnnnnnnn," she said. The runes on the torch began to glow. |
It wasn't Isa? Oh, right. Duh. Of course they wouldn't study about that Rune this lesson because it would make them even colder. Not something she wanted when they were about to step out towards the lake. Why were they even going to the lake at this hour? Could she not just go to bed instead? It would definitely be a lot warmer there than it was by the double doors. Watching the demonstration that Professor Botros gave, Lux figured it seemed simple enough. Kenaz was removed from her Rune kit (with a fair bit of difficulty) and placed it in the same hand as her wand. Making sure that the two objects touched, she began chanting. ""kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk... kaunnnnnnnnn" Brrrr. So cold. At least they were getting torches, which was pretty cool because it made her feel connected with Muggles. Happily, she took one from the Gryffindor Prefect as she continued to chant. |
Professor? When the Gryffindor Prefect handed out the torches, Cris took one and thanked her. Examining it, he noticed there were runes carved into it. Pretty neat indeed. So that was how it worked, Cris thought to himself. Now he could start chanting the Galdr. Ensuring that the runestone and his wand were still touching and on top of each other, Cris began to chant. "kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk... kaunnnnnnnnn," and as he did so, the runes on the torch began to glow. But for how long? So Cris raised his hand to ask the question. "Professor, how often do we need to chant the Galdr in order to keep the flame burning? Do we only need to do it just this one time and it'll stay lit or do we do it whenever we see the flame dying down?" |
Scrunching up his nose as he eyed the darkness behind the professor, a torch was passed to him by the Gryffindor prefect. “Oh hey. Thanks Lex.” Ethan gave her a nod and examined the carving on their wooden device that will soon have fire and whatnot. Merlin, he’s sure everyone in the room’s itching to light it up. But yes, first things first. The Galdr for the Kenaz. Ahem. The Slytherin placed the rune in his hand holding the wand and started the chant. “Kenaz Kenaz Kenaz...ku ka ki ke ko…kun kan kin ken kon…ok ek ik ak uk... kauNNNNNN…” Ethan saw that the symbol for the Kenaz on his torch started to glow. Grin. |

Botros watched Cambridge pass out torches, he gave her a nice pat on the head before she went off. Such potential this girl had, if only she wasn't so... overexcited about certain things. |
SPOILER!!: Le Prof :3 Kace dazed off when he heard the first question but he knew the answer. It was Kenaz! He remembered learning about it last term. It did resemble fire! He smirked and was glad he knew what the professor was talking about. Now onto the task at hand. He was about to grab his own torch when he noticed Alexa have them. He took one from her and said, "Thanks Alexa!" and then began the assignment. He got his rune stone set. Once he found Kenaz he held it in his palm. But he had to grab his wand in the same palm? He shrugged and did what the professor was demonstrating. Now they were chanting and he needed to do this part. He began saying like the professor did.... "kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk... kaunnnnnnnnn" but the rune didn't seem to glow like the professor's did. He gave it a quizzical look and tried again. |
Tag paid attention to everything Botros had said and done and kept a mental memory of it all. As well, glancing at the students every now and then to remember what he was meant to be doing. First thing was first, Tag fished out kenaz stone and put it on his palm, placing his wand right on top of it, just as Botros had done so. After making sure he'd been holding it like Botros had Tag grabbed one of the torches that was being passed about, thanked the person, and continued with his task. Now for the chanting part. "Kenaz Kenaz Kenaz. Ku Ka Ki Ke Ko. Kun Kan Kin Ken Kon. Ok ek ik ak uk... Kaunnnnnnnnn" chanted Tag as he saw the runes of his torch glow slightly. |
Mo wasn't a prefect, but since he was Botros' favorite (no, really, the dude was MO'S favorite, but samesies), he decided to take a handful of torches and pass them along as well. "Just take the whole bunch and pass them down," he instructed as he handed off but one of his armful. The last one was his. Now, then... first things first. Mo tucked the torch under one arm and sorted through the rune set he kept in his bag. They were tidily in order, as he liked his supplies to be kept, so it was easy to go right to his Kenaz. The rest were tucked back away, so that he could focus on the task at hand. Rune to palm. Wand to rune. It was a little awkward, and Mo wondered how those with smaller palms and shorter fingers managed it. |
When Professor Botros replied to his question, he quickly scribbled down his explanation into his journal. Okay so it depended on how strong his magic was. That totally made sense. So since he believed in the old adage practice makes perfect, he decided to continue chanting the Galdr for Kenaz. Making sure that both the runestone and his wand were still touching and on top of each other, he began the chant. "kenaz kenaz kenaz...ku ka ki ke ko.....kun kan kin ken kon....ok ek ik ak uk...kaunnnnnnnnn" and again he watched as the runes on the torch began to glow again. |
Kenaz... Oh right! Everyone wanted to be warm right now. Except him. Okay, maybe this cold was a little too much for him so he wanted some warmth too. Hehe. This all sounded very interesting to the third year, using Kenaz to keep the torches alight. "Thanks, Alexa,'' he said as he collected a torch from the Gryffindor Prefect. He rummaged through his runsetone set eventually pulling out the Kenaz rune. With the stone safely in his left hand, he grabbed his wand with the same hand. Were they on top of each other? Adi checked. Yep, they were. Now came the chanting. "kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk... kaunnnnnnnnn." The Runes on the torch were glowing. |
Ascanius had nearly forgotten why he hated this class so much (pretty much any class that was taught by a guy) until he had talked about the chanting. S'not like he was exactly keen on chanting out loud so everyone could hear him. He liked to be silent and judgey in every lesson and Botros was throwing off his groove, yeah? But he didn't dare complain. Nope. As little talking as he could muster was what he was going to do. So he grabbed the kenaz rune, after shuffling 'round in his bag a bit, and placed it in his palm. Then he grabbed his wand with the same hand and waited of a torch. It took quite a bit of time for one to get his way because all of the guys were at the back of the room, but one he had it he considered how he would do this chanting thing. Whispering. Yeah. And so, he did, "kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk... kaunnnnnnnnn..." |
Well since Botros was looking at the Prefects, it made the choice easy. He passed along torches to whoever needed them and then got to work on what he was suppose to be doing. Thanking Merlin it was not the obvious Isa and was kenaz. Fire/Heat would be much appreciated. Alright, to the task he goes. Nigel opened his kit and took out the rune he needed. Making sure his wands tip was touching the rune. Yeah just like that. Time for the casting. "kenaz kenaz kenaz...ku ka ki ke ko.....kun kan kin ken kon....ok ek ik ak uk...kaunnnnnnnnn" Look at that glow. |
Noel tried to listen this time and with the way the Professor explained, it all did make sense. When the Prefect handed out the torches, Noel grabbed one and just for caution - first watched what others did. And then he tried himself. Except with all the chanting going on, Noel wasn't sure what the correct chanting was. "kenaz kenaz... ku ki ki ka.. kun kankan kannnnnn ..... kaunnnnnnnnn"So nothing of his was glowing. SIGH. Frustration! Listening carefully to what others were chanting, Noel tried again: "kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk... kaunnnnnnnnn" AND it started to glow. WOOO. |
Okay so they would be working with the Kenaz rune. And the incendio spell later on. Benny made a mental note to remember it all to write down later. For now he wasn't taking notes as they required more effort in the cold at the moment that he was willing to give. Spellwork and runework he would do. So bypassing the parchment and quills in his bag, the third year retrieved his runeset, shuffling inside until he found the correct one. Then with Kenaz in hand, Ben took his wand from his pocket and rested both in the palm of his hand as directed while he waited for a torch to be passed to him. "kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk... kaunnnnnnnnn," he chanted, practicing with it first. |

........ unless... torches? With wide eyes and solemn nods, he took the one that Lex offered to him. Nobody was lighting theirs yet, though. They had to chant or something first, but Dima didn't KNOW what to chant. Did that mean it was okay to light it? "Incendio." Of course it was okay. He was a TOUSSAINT, yo, not some human ice cube. Uh huh. |
What in the name of merlin did this Professor mean by going OUTSIDE?! Did he REALISE how COLD it was out THERE?! HUH?! JEEZ. Just the sight of the double doors was enough to make him shudder. If this rune didn't help, he was going to be VERY disappointed, indeed. Looking away hastily, the boy reached into his bag and drew out his runestone set and eyed the runes carefully. Kenaz...... Kenaz...... THAT one there. Yes. Taking out the right rune, he clasped it in his left hand before stuffing the runestone set back into his bag. Once that was done, the boy took out his wand and held it in the same hand and was about to start chanting wheeeeen......... Oh HEY HIPPIE NIGEL. Grayson shot the Ravenclaw Prefect a smile and said, "Thanks, man!" as he took the torch. Thank you, indeed. They made him feel powerful, these things did. Regardless, his tried to concentrate on the chanting of the Kenaz galdr and not on his fantasy of being a tomb raider. "kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk... kaunnnnnnnnn" On and on the chanting went until he almost got tired of hearing his own voice. Almost. MAN, what a glow! |
No? just a simple no? Ok fine ..whatever. The Gryffindor shrugged his shoulders and leaned back against the wall. He then looked at the old man grabbing a wooden torch out of one of the boxes and his interest peaked. Fire? Fire meant explosions and explosions were cool. But the Professor was probably not looking for explosions...the boy could not promise that hehe. Anyways, he listened to the man talk , rolled his eyes a little at the 'no fire now!' part and silently putting his wand back in his wrist holster for he had grabbed it. He grabbed a torch from the Ravenclaw Prefect and looked at it for a moment. Then he opened his runestone kit and took out Kenaz. UGH chanting? Chanting was ...ridiculous. Why couldn't they just made simple incantations like they had with spells. Although a lot of them were difficult to pronounce but it was better than having to CHANT like a crazy person. Listening to the students around him, he only missed the crazy dancing around a fire. The Gryffindor laughed softly at his own thoughts but then held the rune and his wand in one hand so that they were on top of each other and began to chant.... in a LOUD voice. "KENAZ KENAZ KENAZ...KU KA..KI? KE KO...KUN" what was the rest? he listened to the others and then caught up again. "KAN KIN KEN ..KON"KING KONG ahem..OK EK IK AK UK...KAUNNNNNNNN~~~~! |
Okay. Kenaz. The name sounded vaaaaguely familiar to Marigold. Like maybe she had heard it in this class? Yeah. She took out her runestone set and was looking for the right one when McFly started handing out torches. "Thanks," she said, taking one, then going back to finding the right stone. Ahhhh, there it is. She held it in her hand and put her wand in that hand too. Now for the chanting, right? She felt already she was going to mess up. She took a breath and started chanting. "kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ke-" Whoops.. Oh no. Should she just keep going? "ko jun kan kin ken con ok ek ik ak uk kaun." But nothing happened. Probably because she messed up and all. She listened to the chant again, then started again. "Kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk… kaunnnnnnnnn." OHHEYLOOKITWORKED. |

And WHEN had they been spotted? The first year would have been disappointed with their lack of stealth had it not been for the torch they were passed. A torch meant fire, right? And warmth too though Maddie wasn't exactly sure having fire this close to people's trousers was safe. Unless...was that wall boy around? Hmm. Ideas, she had them. "That's cheating," She whispered to Dima when he used incendio to light their torch. She didn't MIND, of course, but it WASN'T the directions that had been given. "...But good job." Warmth, she felt it. |

But Maddie was cold. He could so tell. "You're welcome." Mhm. Quote:
Like.... uh oh. "Excuse me, mister?" He tapped the boy who was in front of him on the shoulder. "Your... er...... pants are on fire." |

His trousers.... His trousers were on fire..... Uh-oh. |
Welp. What was happening... Mo heard the little voices behind him, but he was actually afraid to turn around and see what was going on. He wasn't the prefect, right? So it didn't really matter if he checked that the little voices appearing in an upper level class were, in fact, his firsties. They were someone else's firsties. Instead, he opted to LOUDLY chant. Very loudly. "Kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk… kaunnnnnnnnn." Ahem. What firsties? |
Zander let off a look of disappointment, awh so no sunshine today? But the corners of his mouth did lift up at the mention of the fire rune?! Thank Merlin. They definitely did not need more of that cold isa stuff because there was already plenty going around, thank you very much. Mhm. No, fire is good. Fire is great. Zander got his rune set from out of his bag and dug through it trying to find the stone of Kenaz. It did take a while, but Zander was finally able to produce the stone in his hands. Good. Following directions, the third year held it in his palm and grabbed his wand. Runes is actually super weird. He grabbed one of the torch's that the Gryffindor Prefect was handing out, thanks Lex, and then turned his attention back to Botros. How was he supposed to remember all of that? Yeah. Definitely did not catch that the first time. Noticing that smart Newell girl chanting it afterwards, Zander leaned in to try to figure out exactly how she said it. His turn to give it a go. "kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk... kaunnnnnnnnn," um.... is this even english? He added a bunch of extra "ku ka kis" at the end just for good measure. |
It was time to try again. He had the rune still in his hand and the wand still in the same hand. His torch didn't glow last time. He was a little nervous. He took a deep breath and said the incantation.... "kenaz kenaz kenaz...ku ka ki ke ko.....kun kan kin ken kon....ok ek ik ak uk...kaunnnnnnnnn" Then he immediately saw the glow on his torch. He finally did it! His eyes widened and he smiled. Then he smelt something burning and turned around and saw someone's pants were on fire. He stood there wide eyed and wondered what the professor was gonna do about it. |
Taking a deep breath, Austin opened his kit. Thankfully, he thought ahead, and put a small cheat sheet in his box. He had gone through at the beginning of the year and wrote down the runes and what they were on a piece of parchment. He looked through his runes, and found the right one. He glanced at the sheet, and found the rune that matched. Here it is, Kenaz. Looking up, a torch was passed to him. He nodded in thanks, and took another deep breath. Runes was not his strong suit, and he really didn't need the whole room engulfed in flames. He took the rune and placed it in his right hand, and put his wand on top of that. Holding the torch with his left hand, he closed his eyes and chanted: "kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk... kaunnnnnnnnn". Opening one eye, he saw that nothing had happened. Maybe he spoke too softly? It did seem that others were being quite loud with their chants. Closing his eyes again, he chanted louder. Hopefully loud enough for the torch to hear. "Kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk... kaunnnnnnnnn." Opening his eyes, he saw that the torch wasn't exactly on fire, but the rune was glowing in his hand. So that was something. He was about to try again, but he felt kind of warm. Maybe the rune was working? No, because once he looked around, he realized that someone's pants were on fire. Oh great. It even seemed like good ol' |
