Oichi decided to calm down. Sure she was getting old but someone must be trying to find a solution to a problem this big, she was just highly over reacting to the shock of everything. "I'm sorry professor, I trust things are being sorted out and I'll keep quiet about it", Oichi said and then grabbed her quill land parcent and waited for the lesson to continue. |
Louis nearly jumped when the professor suddenly shouted in a language he didn't even understand. Err, okay maybe they had all sort of brought that upon themselves but was all the yelling really necessary? His ears were beginning to ring. The boy listened quietly as Professor Romanos called out two particularly talkative Gryffindors before ordering Bay to go sit with her. Louis watched his friend go up the stands to sit beside the professor and sighed. This wasn't going to be a normal class day, was it? Well, might as well just get to it. The Gryffindor pulled out a piece of parchment, a quill and some ink from his bag, placing it all on the desk before leaning back into his seat once more. And now we wait. |
Whoa! Waiiiit. Foul play. Time thief. Whaaaaaaaat? Beverly's mind was reeling from all of the information floating around. They HAD to be joking. Sure, she's heard stuff here and there, but she figured she was told that so that she wouldn't want to come to Hogwarts. Students verifying only made her feel on guard. Then the professor spoke. Had she not been looking her way, Bev would have jumped and maybe even drawn out her wand. Phew. Now she REALLY wanted to learn some kick-butt skills. She was happy to hear they would still be doing the practical portion. She nodded at professor Romanos. Yes. She was ready. Lets go. |

"Noooow....I vould like to know if anyone knows anything about the demon in Slavic mythology named Chort?" |
Honestly? No. Toby had no idea. There was literally nothing he could say about... whatever that word had been, so he kept quiet and twirled his quill in his fingers, staring thoughtfully up at the professor. |
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Loud Professor was loud. So much for relaxing, right? Mitchell blinked several times before finally getting out the parchment. Fine. Lesson. He unrolled his parchment with a bit of difficulty and set it on the little desk. Parchment. He preferred paper. ... and now they were talking about demons. As far as he knew, that was not a magical creature. Unless they were a thing on this side of the world. That was a possibility. |

"Isn't he the one that is demon-like? With horns and hooves?" she asked, quickly writing the name down on the parchment she had brought out. That way, she would be able to take additional notes. |
Darn. Beverly was stuck on that one. No, she didn't know about this Slavic demon. But as all demons went, they were evil and most likely not approachable. Having nothing else besides that, she readied her quill to take notes. Darn it, man. |
Lux giggled a little as she saw Bay move over beside the Professor and rest his head against her. Awww, if he was so tired, he should have stayed in bed and gotten notes from her later on. Raising her hand at the first question, she said, "I think I read once that he has a pig-face." There was nothing else she could remember. The only reason she knew was because she had read something about one in a book once. |
Sander raised his hands,"Professor isn't that the demon who is the son of the Slavic Chernobog and the goddess Mara. He's really evil." Sander answered. He remembered his mother used to scare him and his siblings whenever they misbehaved. She would threaten that Chort would come and take them when they were asleep. |

Oh.. she was asking questions, even in his weird state he has heard of this particular demon from his mother. He looked up at Professor Romanos and said quietly "this demon is like really evil.. and like has horns…a tail and has a really uggghhh ugly face…" Bay mimicked the description with his hands. "he can move stuff in the human world and interact with objects" he continued, then he placed his head back down. He was quite comfortable. |
Okay.... So now it was lesson time. Demons...... He raised his hand "He's the son of god and goddess Mara I don't remember the gods name though." He nodded. He was familiar with mythology. Kind of. He was terrible with the names. |
Lucas was kind of a little bit relieved the hullabaloo was over. But Chort. Ah, there was some mythology his frankly creepy parents' library HAD actually come in useful for. "Some christians believed he was a minion of Satan because he had the little tail and sometimes he was like painted in fire?" But Chort was creepy and weird. "Apparently he's one of the few that can like.. interact with the world." Ek. Cool but nonetheless extremely creepy. |
Chort. It sounded like something you'd do. Or maybe something you wore and occasionally ate when you were feeling adventurous. This could be interesting, but really, were a few grey hairs something over which to cancel any practical application of magic. He sat there writing down the name as he thought it might spelled along with the note that it was a slavic demon. Then he rested his patchy white goateed chin upon his knees. |
Leah was confused. It was her first DADA class and something... happened. Lots of commotion. The girl focused on the professor instead. Chort the demon. "Demon of total EVIL!" Leah shouted, before realizing that she was too loud. Her parents had talked about that demon before and it was the only thing the girl could remember. |

Chort, I think I've heard that name before, something to do with an aweful demon, oh I remember, my mum told me about this demon when I was little saying if I was bad, he'll come. Even to this day I have never seen him. Oichi chuckled, "He's the demon Hod of totally evil in Russian folklore. He is said to have horns, hoofs, a skinny tail and a pigs face. I would totally love to see that but there is no way he could real". |
Nigel knew a tiny bit about the Slavic Mythology. But still whenever you hear Chort it sounds like a horrible name for a demon. But when our father is Chernobog. You do not mess with Chernobog. And with him as your father i guess you can not question your name. He heard his answer already said so Nigel just soaked in all the information he could about this bizzare demon/god. |

Bart chuckled to himself as the professor got loud. Wow she could take them down couldn't she. He looked in his bag and pulled out parchment not that he'd take any notes. He just didn't feel like doing that, but it was out. Watching as Gryffindors got into trouble and one had to go sit with her, Bart was just enjoying all of it. People getting in trouble that weren't him, this aging potion or whatever it was taking over. It was all so funny. Oh and they were going to start with questions. Great so boring was setting it. He slumped in his chair and waited for the glazed eyes to happen. That was until he heard the professor said about demons. Now that was a cool topic, he put his hand up. "Well you said Demon so who ever the dude is he must be a dark wizard, which means he probably killed and did bad things." Well he didn't know who he was, but demon meant bad, bad meant killing and cursing. |
Demons, though? What were they doing studying demons? Was this Chort based on someone or something real, or was there a good spell related to demon mythology or... or what? Because demons sounded cool, but Mo kinda wanted to work on practical applications if at all possible. Demons just weren't practical. "I don't really know much about Slavic lore, Professor. I mean, I think I saw a picture once, and they sort of remind me of... chimaeras. Y'know, because they have these composite bodies with features from several other types of creatures." Dumb answer? |
Errr...what? How did some of these people know this stuff?! It wasn't like Slavic, mythological demons were common knowledge or common conversation pieces. Sophie just sort of shuffled around the raised her hand. "I don't know anything about demons or Slavic mythology," she said. Nope. Nothing. Sorry, Professor. "But I do know about Chimaeras," she added, looking over at Mo. |
Fine! FIIIIIIIIINE!!!!! He would calm down but only because she had promised that they would still do the activity. If she went back on that promise however, then he was totally walking out of here. So he pulled out his quill to go with his parchment before raising his hand to answer the Professor's question. "Chort is a demon of evil. I have read different variations on it and am not sure which was one is true." But then it was mythology so it probably didn't matter either way. "Anyway one version I read was that Chort could send bad weather and diseases to people." That would be why he was evil. "And he could even persuade them to commit suicide." Yep evil. |
Chort. Ana actually knew about this! And not from studying either! Her hand quickly shot into the air as she answered. "Chort is said to be a demon of pure evil and as my classmates have mentioned he's the son of the god Chernobog and the goddess Mara. He goes by several other names as well. Along with Chort you may find him referenced as Chor, Chorabash, haspyda, didko, irod, and kutsyi," Ana mentioned excitedly. "In Russia some sayings such as 'Chort poputal' meaning mixed up by demons and 'Tysiacha chertei' translated as thousands of demons use his name," Could you tell that Ana was quite enthused about this topic of conversation? "Interestingly enough he is also believed to be allied with witches and warlocks in our folklore," because she was Russian so it was her folklore, even if not the folklore of some other people. "However, Chort is not the only demon of his kind, the Chors can be both good and evil in folklore, and like Bay said they can interact with the human world. While in Christianity it is believed that Chort is a servant to the devil this I believe wouldn't stand true as the Chors, like humans, have free will," was she talking too much? Maybe. But she really liked this topic of conversation. "My Babushka told me that Chort was believed to be able to control the weather, and would apparently appear during whirlwinds or hurricanes, and had the ability to shape shift into animals such as a black cat, a pig or a snake. He also convinced people to do terrible things," but she didn't want to mention what due to the young age of some of the children in this class. |
Messer shrink a little when he heard Romanos's loud voice. Eek. He never heard the DADA Professor yelled before and she was yelling in a language he didn't understand. Huh? Chort who? Yeah he didn't know any Chort nor he was familiar with Slavic mythology but it seem some of his classmate have heard about that Chort guy so he just gonna sit this one out and listen to his fellow classmate answers. |
