Default The Practice Pitch

When not in use for games, the pitch is open to students and staff alike. Here is the place to practice your Quidditch skills before attending team tryouts or to simply take a joy ride. No Quidditch equipment is available for use. Anyone who wishes to use any Quidditch equipment must get permission from Professor Tyner before borrowing it from the broomshed. Failure to abide by this simple and practical safety rule will result in loss of House points. Those who repeatedly break this rule will receive detention and/or lose privileges to be on the practice pitch.

Once the Quidditch season officially begins, team Captains can contact Professor Tyner to reserve the field for practices and non-team members can watch practices occur. When practices aren't in session, the pitch is open for all students and staff.

There was a lot to be scared about. And he was a little scared. Or nervous. Whatever.

... Was she a Legilimens? Please don't read minds, Miss Lea.

The boy shook his head as he neared her. He was close behind her, now; the nose of his broom was almost close to the tailend of hers. Almost being the key word here. He also had half a mind to distract her by the use of magic and birds but... that would be considered cheating. And Alec Blake Summers was not a cheat.

So... he continued flying, copying her motion of bending over the broom. ... He... had questions he needed to ask her. Quidditch related questions.

Léa FELT him rather than seeing him, and she flew around the goalposts like he'd showed with his hands. Her broom was apparently going at its fastest - merlin, she almost considered donate some money for them to renew these brooms - so surely his brand new broom would pass hers on the road back. She didn't give up, though. If she was going to lose, she would lose with dignity.

It was going to be interesting WHAT he would make her do.

Lea was flying around the goalposts... and Alec was following quite closely behind her. How she managed to fly so quickly on a school broom, he didn't know. Weren't they meant to be slow? Or were they secretly just as fast but he didn't know since it had been... what? Five years since he had ridden on one? Yeah.

They were on the long stretch back now, though, and Alec... was gaining speed on her. The nose of his broom was now halfway along the school broom she was riding, which made him feel just that little bit better. Because... if he was going to lose, at least it wasn't by a long margin? And even if he did lose, he probably wouldn't mind saying it for a while. Maybe. Because Lea was good, it seemed. It was a pity she didn't attend Hogwarts.

He made the mistake of looking at her. Looking and grinning. BIIIIIG grins for you, Lea.

Léa did the same mistake too. Looking, and being distracted again, and smiling back.

And sitting slightly straighter, and losing speed.

And falling back. Of him. With a little distance to the end.

She looked like she was disappointed, but in reality she was pretty curious about HIS ideas of 'anything he wanted'.

Alec was gaining speed on her, which he was happy about. Maybe. The idea of losing really didn't sit well with the boy but... he didn't mind losing to some people. Lea would have probably been one of them. Maybe. ... He... wasn't going to tell her this.

His grey-blue eyes narrowed a little at the approaching goalposts. She... was close behind, right? And was okay, yeah? Was it okay to worry about these things at a time like this? ... He... was going to do so anyways. But he couldn't turn his head to look back at her until he was at the goalposts. Unless she was hurt. But she'd call out to him, right?

And speaking of goalposts... when he approached them, he swivelled his broom round to look at her, a grin spread across his face. "You're quite the flier, you know, Miss Lea," The Miss bit slipped out but... he was going to keep it there. It didn't sound bad, after all. Miss Lea...

At this point, with the quality GAP between the two brooms, Léa didn't even try to win it. It was his race, his seeker'ness, his speed.

His 'anything'.

Grinning - and definitely liking the 'Miss' there - she said "I'm flattered, Monsieur." And the sloooowed down to land better. "I used to be on team, but I 'ad a 'orrible accident." Okay, it wasn't so horrible but... she wanted his attention.

Alec liked the fact that she was grinning, he really really did. It meant that she was happy, yeah? And really, there didn't need to be any of this... this school rivalry between them. Or between their schools. People could try and get along. Nodnod.

He also liked the 'Monsieur' part. Just saying.

... She used to be on the team? That would probably explain why she said that she loved Quidditch. ... Wait... A small frown formed on Alec's lips and his brows furrowed in confusion. "Horrible accident?" he blurted out before he could stop himself, "Erm... what happened in that accident?"

All eyes were on her. Absolutely.

Léa landed FIRST, leaving him to wonder for a while. She hoped this wasn't his 'anything'. That would be simply boring and even the suspense she was trying to do would save it.

"Weeeell," she said with a dramatic sigh, as if it pained her to remember it. Had she got his full attention and care yet? "I was playing as a seeker like you," she smiled a mutual trait, "It was a rainy day where all the clouds of the world 'ad gathered over our pitch. I didn't realise 'ow 'igh I was flyin'. I opened my eyes in 'ospital room. Zey said I fainted with the lack of oxygen and zey nearly missed my falling figure. Zey did the, uh, cushioning charm at ze last min - moment." Truth was, she had been on a diet to lose one pound she'd put on then, and had skipped breakfast. She had never revealed that information to anyone. She wasn't ever going to be. It was a hard thing to keep this figure, but very few people appreciated her efforts.

Alec bent over his broom and dived before landing gently on the grass. Gently. And then attention was on Lea. Yeah. Because it was pretty much just the two of them here. And they were meant to be hanging out.

That sigh. Sympathy took over, especially when she mentioned that she was a seeker too. There were many times when he wanted to say something or let out a sign that he felt sorry for her but... he didn't. It was rude, yeah? Plus she had a nice accent so... he'd just let her continue talking while sad expressions crossed his face. ... Yeah... he didn't know how he would react if he found out that he'd passed out because of the low oxygen levels when he was just searching for the tiny golden ball.

"Do you think you'd go back to it sometime?" Seeking, that is. Or just Quidditch in general. ... Also. "Do you... think it's okay if I give you a hug?"

Léa was pleased to see his attention was all on her, but she didn't show it. Instead, she focused on her story and shrugged to show she didn't know. "I know I don't 'ave any chance to play eet professionally." So, she actually knew that if she wasn't perfect at something, she wouldn't try it again. But for... some reason, she figured she should leave it vague. "Maybee for fun..." She didn't know. At least tried to look so.

She laughed at his next question. Someone with that face could always hug her. "Of course," she said and even opened her arms.

This... was sad. Really. And he kind of wished he could try and help her get back on the path, if she wanted to do that eventually. "Did you want to play professionally?" ... The words 'for fun' sparked an idea in the boy's head and... he tilted his head, a small smile playing across his lips. "Do you want to play against me? Just for fun...?" He wasn't exactly sure how that would work. Just fly around catching a tiny ball? Or what?

... She was laughing! Alec felt... happy about that. Yeah. He moved forward, wrapped his arms around her and gave her a BIG HUG. Big squeezy hug. "You have nice hair, by the way." Completely normal, this was.

Did she, really? Léa thought it for a moment, then shrugged. "I don't zink zo. I want to do some management maybe at a bank." Since there weren't wizarding factories really. She LOVED elegant clothing business women wore, and she clearly had the looks too.

She smiled genuinely. She didn't judge him wrongly, after all. He was both cute and fun. Just her type. "I can't wait," she murmured, half challenging, half seducing.

And the hug came. She didn't squeeze him or anything, but she tried to make him feel warm and welcome too. She laughed and refrained from swishing her hair. Instead, hugging him maybe one second more than necessary, she said "So do you, Mister.

"So what will you make me do?"
They had a bet, after all.

Management. Bank work. Alec nodded along. "I can... see you working in a bank," Maybe. "Who knows, maybe you could work in a bank here... if you're liking Britain." It was a simple suggestion, really, and it had a lot to do with the fact that he didn't want her to go so soon. Friends and all that.

... Were they friends? Who knew.

... Okay. Oblivious Alec was usually oblivious but there was something about the way Lea had said 'I can't wait' that made him... pause. ... No. No, it was probably nothing. Trick of the light or whatever. "Me neither," he murmured back, nodding at her, "Maybe we'll learn something from each other." Or about each other... since... he didn't know much about life at Beauxbatons.

The hug wasn't exactly squeezy or the superhug that he was used to giving but it was still nice. Really. And she had a nice laugh, too. One that made him grin at her. Was he doing too much of that? "Thanks, Miss Lea!" Pity he couldn't whip his hair for her. ... Pity.

Oh right! Their challenge. Alec thought for a moment, trying to think of the perfect dare. Most of them were... well. Probably things you'd do with your boyfriend/girlfriend/crush, yeah? And since that wasn't the case here... he had to think of something else. Think... think... what could be a made a Beauxbatons girl do?

... GOT IT! "So... there's the second half of the competition coming up and..." ... He paused. This was mean. Just a bit. She wouldn't mind, right? ... He cleared his throat before continuing, "... and I dare you to cheer on Hogwarts for one of the tasks. I can lend you a Hogwarts banner." ... Yeah, what was that feeling? Whatever it was, it was a bad one. One that said that he'd probably need to make it up to her later. Maybe.

...work in Britain? Léa blinked as she was clearly thinking it. "I... don't know," she admitted at last with a small smile on her lips. See? The cute boy even opened new paths for her. How nice of him. She really, really liked him.

"I'll consider eet. Merci."

Really.

...what?

Léa half choked and half laughed. She EYED him, but he was serious about it. "Okay," was her answer in the end. Because she was no quitter or loser. "But only eef I wear your scarf o' whatever you deem appropriate." She was in no position to be enforcing him, but she just figured he wouldn't mind.

She... didn't know? Alec reached up a hand and ruffled his hair. He hadn't... offended her, had he? She was smiling, though, so there was that. "Sounds great! Hope it goes well for you!" SMILE. "And anytime!" He also had the wild thought of coming to visit her sometime. If the two were friends.

...

In all honesty, Alec fully expected Lea to refuse the dare. He wasn't even surprised when she eyed him for it. What he was surprised with, though, was when a simple word tumbled out of her mouth. Okay. Acceptance. He grinned. "Awesome!" As for her request, he paused. Scarf? Did he have a spare one? "Yeah, sure! I have a Hufflepuff one but... I can let you borrow that." Nodnod. Plus, wasn't it chillier up here than France or... wherever Beauxbatons happened to be? Was that why she was requesting a scarf?

... Maybe he should have made her dress up in a badger costume instead. Maybe.

But it was bound to go well with her. Léa just couldn't fail. Wouldn't fail. She didn't tell these out loud exactly, but she also looked arrogant as was her natural posture. Why deny something that was true? She eyed him, and thought it was only fair if he talked about his future plans too.

"What do you plan to do?" she asked as she shifted her weight to her other leg. A professional seeker? If so, he was SO signing a photograph. She would be a fool if she missed the chance.

Was someone caught off-guard? HEHE. Léa liked that. She looked around dramatically for any eavesdroppers, then leaned onto his ear slightly more than necessary.

"Between you and me, but 'Ufflepuff is the only 'ouse I suppor' really." She smiled sweetly. Had he seen their boys? They were even betten than Durmies there.

That look from the Frenchie? It only caused his eyebrows to raise themselves slightly. Just a bit. He was... not going to say anything about this though. Why? Because it was probably nothing the seventeen year old should concern himself with.

What did he plan to do? This... was where that familiar nervous feeling started to settle in. Because the future was unpredictable and despite the numerous times people told him that a) he was brilliant and b) he was bound to make it, Alec just... didn't believe it. And was cautious. Yeah. As for her question, he smiled a little before saying, "If all goes to plan... I'm hoping to Seek professionally." Was that a good plan?

... WHOA! The boy's grey-blue eyes widened a little when the girl leaned in towards him. The girl was full of surprises, it seemed. And... she wasn't going to...?

... Nope. Just talking. Good. Awesome. He let out a small chuckle at her words before saying, "I... you've made a wise decision, Miss Lea!" GRIN. ... Although... the other houses were great too but... house loyalty, you see. He was slightly partial to believe that Hufflepuffs were really awesome.

So far it was CLEARLY going to plan. Léa might have drowned him with two million questions and two about it, but she didn't. She didn't want to scare cute boys away. Instead, she said "Zen I need a signature of yours." She grinned. "I can't miss ze chance to gazzer all my grandchildren around, show zem the signature and say 'I know 'im from 'is school days. We even competed at Triwizard Tournament against each ozzer.'" It was half flattering, but more the truth. She meant everything she said. And if he couldn't become a professional player? She would have something to keep as a memory from a potential friend.

She'd pulled back in time to catch the grin, and she smiled back. "I believe so, Monsieur Alec." Truly, though. All the cuties were there. Ravenclaw was so boring when it came to that.

"So, tell me," she said as she sat down onto the grass. She didn't want to race anymore, but she didn't want to depart from him now either. "'Ave you got a girlfriend?" It wasn't too fast to ask that, no. Because she was here only for a few more months, and she was going to be a good girl and not seduce taken boys like that.

A signature? Alec was... perplexed, to say the least, but he let her continue with what she needed to say. And then his mood changed completely and he... let out a bark of laughter. "Okay, I can sign something for you. Do you... have a quill and parchment on you?" This was probably a sign that he should have practised his signature beforehand. And not like those lame scribbles in his exercise books from primary school.

Also... speaking of the Tournament... "Hey... are you enjoying the Tournament?" ... Pause. "And life at Hogwarts?" Because he had been new at Hogwarts at one point too and if anything, he knew exactly how it felt to be new to the castle.

He also liked the 'Monsieur Alec'. Really. The seventeen year old grinned at the Frenchie before sitting down on the grass next to her. Girlfriend? The grin on his face turned a little sheepish but he answered, "Yeah, I do! Her name's Ella Bishop and she's the Hufflepuff Quidditch Captain." Proud of her, he was. "Why'd you ask?"

Was it okay to ask her if she had a boyfriend or...?

Léa was going to take that laughter as the best sign. She didn't have any parchment though, right now. She shook her head. "But once we're back in ze castle?" Yes? Please?

Tournament. Hah. She laughed bitterly. "I'd surely like eet more if we weren't at the last place." She was clearly annoyed by it, though she did her best to hide it. "But life 'ere is nice. Ze cold aside, you 'ave a lovely castle." She didn't compliment everything and everyone. She did like it here.

Oh, merlin. She didn't even listen to him to know he was in love beyond help. She still listened to him amiably and nodded in the end. She'd see the girl fly too. Just how cute would it be if they ended up in the same team?

Gross.

She shrugged. "Eet is good to know before making a move for cute boys like you." Why, she had nothing to hide, so she could be fully honest. The worst case scenario was, she would simply return to France and forget about him. She studied his face. She hoped that wouldn't be the case.

Once they were back at the castle? Alec nodded. "Yeah, of course!" And that was when a thought popped into his head and... he turned to look over at her. "I'll need something to remember you by too so... how about... we take a picture? I can give you a copy and sign that."

That laugh. The boy's eyebrows shot up a little but he said nothing. Yeah... being last place wasn't fun. Nope. "Hey, there's always the second round to go," he said, nudging her gently, "And you're not that far off from Durmstrang." Though, she probably knew that. A lovely castle. At those words, Alec looked up at the castle and smiled. "Well... I'm glad you like it here. It's a pity you can't stay longer."

She had nothing to say on the girlfriend talk? Okay. He could just smile fondly at the memory off--

...

BLINK.

Yeah... he was not expecting that.

... 'cute boys like you'... The words played across Alec's mind a little which... only made the whole talking process worse. ... Right. Yeah. Talk. WORDS, Summers. "Erm... you... you think I'm cute?" he asked, looking at her with an expression that, hopefully, displayed curiosity. He could be cool and curious about this. Yeah.

... What did she mean by 'making a move' exactly?

Léa beamed at him. She LOVED the idea of taking a picture! She also felt flattered that he wanted to remember her, but he was probably only being friendly. Friendly was alright too. A seeker friend would be exceptional.

"Zat sounds wonderful," she said, then shrugged. "We are better zan zose, at least." Clearly, she didn't like them. All that stupid 'mysterious' behaviour. The only mystery about them was how they still thought they were better than everyone else. That was beyond 'idiot arrogance'.

"I zink I'm lucky for zis chance to see eet." She smiled. Tha was positive thinking see? She wasn't the one to think positively usually, but this time she did. Life wasn't very enjoyable with negative thinking anyway.

...

Why did he react as if she'd said something very outrageous? "Yes," she said in slight confusion. "You don't?" Or was he a horrible person deep down? She was SUSPICIOUS now. Serious observation needed to be done.

That beam? Alec was going to take that as a good sign. Definitely. Plus, it did sort of help that she said it sounded wonderful. Nevertheless, he was glad about this tiny little fact. "I think we have a technology room up on the first floor..." he said, "If not... I could always find someone with a camera?" Didn't they have to develop these pictures too? Make them move? ... That was a long process.

Cue more eyebrow raise. ... Was he doing a lot of that lately? ... No. That wasn't the point. What was the point was... "Do you... not like the Durmstrangers?" Durmstrangers. Strangers. Heh.

Lucky. He could agree with that, yeah. But attending the school for the past six years didn't make him feel like seeing the castle was down to luck; it felt normal to come here. "I hope I'm lucky enough to see the Beauxbatons castle one day. I bet it looks great!" Lea wasn't the only one who could think positively.

...

Alec was still quite surprised and trying his hardest not to let his cheeks turn red. But then she ended up confirming her statement and... he had to ruffle his hair. Just had to. Hair!ruffle! "Well... no? I don't... see myself in that way?" Oh sweet Merlin, act cool, Summers. ACT. COOL. "Thanks for calling me cute, by the way," he said, smiling genuinely over at her.

See? He could act cool. Maybe. Not really.

It wasn't a league game, obviously, since the under seventeen's league ran during the summer months, but it still mattered and he was kinda nervous. Excited though because he was going to go to Armenia, which was kinda different and all.

He headed out to the pitch wearing his practice robes and mounted his broom. He had noticed pretty quickly that he wasn't alone, but it didn't matter. People could share the pitch easily without getting in each other's way. He did look to see who... that was Aidan. Definitely. West recognised the Ravenclaw's flying style. It was distinctive, did he know?

........ maybe he'd be up for a race. West flew over without saying anything. Air bonding, yo.
Oh. He was being joined.

By West Odessa.

Be cool, Stone.

Aidan broke the silence. "'Sup?" he bro!nodded at the Slytherin, flying slower and parallel to him. He clearly wanted to fly together, right? That was why he came over instead of staying at one end of the pitch?

Léa smiled at him sweetly. "Zat's great!" She was VERY curious about this technology room now, but she preferred to go there alone. She might sometimes be horribly ignorant about muggles and she didn't want him to see that.

Haha. Durmstrangers. She laughed at the joke. That was a great one. "Don't you zink zey are too arrogant? With all ze mysterious behaviour and whatnot." She paused, looking hesitant and a little worried. If she played this well... "I 'eard zey are ze cause of zeez nasty jokes." She bit her lip in worry. Would Alec believe it? She KNEW she did a good job at lying, though. If he did... that would certainly help the French students, particularly her, Sebastien and Gaston.

Well. She wouldn't die while trying.

"Oh it does!" she beamed. She was clearly a BIG fan of Beauxbatons castle. "It is very chic. I 'ope you weel 'ave ze chance too." Everyone should, in fact. It was a good sight.

She giggled at his hair movement. "But you should." See himself that way. "I bet you are ze star of girls 'ere." Although he was taken. Shame, really, even though Ella wasn't too ugly.

That was great? Alec grinned in response, glad that Lea thought so. Because this was the first ever time that someone was asking for his autograph. He didn't exactly want to mess this up.

Too arrogant? Alec thought on this for a couple of seconds before saying, "I've only talked to one, I think, and he didn't seem to be that bad." Strom, was it? Yeah... the dude had nice hair. Before he could think on this, though, the Beauxbatons girl was mentioning something about... nasty jokes? His eyes widened and he looked around at the surrounding area before looking back at Lea and whispering, "You mean to say, they're the ones hexing people and... and..." What else had happened? "... they're responsible for all the weird things going on?" ... Was that right?

Also. That biting lip thing? Nope. Not looking. He was going to determinedly look over at the other people flying instead.

She had a nice smile, Lea did. Did she know? And he liked the idea that he was making her smile. ... Or... that the mention of the Beauxbatons castle was. "I hope so too! If I do... you think you can show me around?" Maybe this meant that he should show her around too. Maybe to places that you wouldn't exactly see if you were new to the castle, like the kitchens. The kitchens was a good place, right?

He should... Alec had no words for that. He just smiled sheepishly at the girl before looking away over at the pitch. He should. And he was the star of the girls here? "That's quite a compliment, you know," GRIN. Not complaining. Nope. "Are you the star of the boys from Beauxbatons?" Grey-blue eyes were back on her.
