The Greenhouses

http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/...usesbanner.jpg
Banner by the lovely and amazing sweetpinkpixie.

When not in use for classes, several of the greenhouses that are located on the school grounds are open for private and independent research and study. In fact, this is highly encouraged.

Within the unlocked doors of the greenhouses you will find rows and rows of plants. The greenhouses contain a wide variety of plants - both magical and mundane. Want to practice your pruning skills? Why not practice on the Abyssinian Shrivelfig of a Flutterby Bush? Or perhaps you want to harvest some Puffapod seeds- just don’t drop them! -- unless you want to of course.

Unfortunately the stores cupboard is quite bare. Under normal circumstances a variety of resources would have been at your fingertips, but it seems as though the items have been sold and pawned off. There are no seeds, or dung or meat scraps here, and there is only a single pair of large dragon hide gloves on a dusty shelf. If you borrow it, remember to return it.

Remember Professor Bentley likes to take regular strolls through the greenhouse to check on things. So make sure you wear your protective gear and behave yourselves accordingly.

SPOILER!!: Greenhouse Index

1 - VARIOUS including: toadstools, bubotubers, mimbulous mimbletonia
2 - VARIOUS including: creeping ivy (Wasima), fire seed bushes, venomous tentacular, screechsnap, polypody
3 - VARIOUS (largely floral) including: flutterby bushes, puffapods, angels trumpets, umbrella flowers, bouncing bulbs, snarfalumps, wiggenbush
4 - VARIOUS including: fanged geranium, piranha plants, bloodroot, chinese chomping cabbage, mixed herbs
5 - VARIOUS - ARID including: various cacti and grasses
6 - VARIOUS - AQUATIC including: gillyweed, sea lavender, sea cucumbers and coral
7 - VARIOUS - TROPICAL including: cobra lilies, albany pitcher, venus flytraps, poke weed and fire vine
8 - VARIOUS - RESTRICTED ACCESS: includes various flesh-eaters and various dangerous plants including snargallufs, midnight magnolia, dragon trees and mature mandrakes

NOTE: This is not an exhaustive list, it's just to give you an idea of what can be found in each greenhouse. Greenhouse 8 is restricted, locked and enchanted and may only be accessed with Professor Bentley. Any attempt to post that your charrie has broken in, will result in your posts being deleted.

Astro HW Post 1: Trying out my light ideas

Tora stamped, frustrated from the turnstiles, into Greenhouse 4. She had only wanted to simply do her Astronomy homework and here she was handing over 8 sickles. But then again, this was her favorite class. It was worth it.

One of her ideas was to use the sunlight to help finicky plants grow better when they were lacking sunlight. "Solis Focalis!" she said boldly, pointing at a wilting plant she vaguely remembered from Herbology that needed vast amounts of sunlight. It started to perk up a bit. Ha. So it did work!

She smiled a bit and continued to point and light up random plants. If only she had a friend to do this with, it might be even more fun.

Adrienne sidled into the Greenhouse as soon as she spotted Tora. Thank Merlin these things had glass walls, otherwise she would have had to check each one to see if it's the one her friend had chosen to do their Astronomy homework in. Astronomy homework, in a greenhouse- it was a bit odd, wasn't it?

"Out of all the choices, you decide to visit the greenhouse with the carnivorous plants? What was wrong with the flowery one?" Adrienne asked teasingly, though there was a note of seriousness in her voice. She wasn't a huge fan of Herbology, though she didn't have any particular problems with it, and some of the more violent plants were actually kind of scary. It was almost the same problem Adrienne had with Care of Magical Creatures, although that was a class she was actually excited to take this year.

She figured she'd better help Tora, so she headed towards a plant that was labelled "Bloodroot." She wasn't sure how she felt about the name, but the pretty little white flowers looked fairly harmless, so she hoped it wouldn't attack and strangle her or something. "Solis focalis," she said, trying to focus the magnifying glass bit of her wand on the plant.

What? Adrienne finally made it! Unlike her to be late, tut tut. "Well of course I went to the carnivorous greenhouse! You know I hate Herbology, but I figured that in this greenhouse I could knock out two of my Astronomy homework in actions. For example..." she trailed off as she concentrated and focused the light in a steady beam. Flies and other insects started toward the light. Slowly she lead the bugs toward the mouth of one of the nearby carnivorous plants. CHOMP. Now there was a plant that had a nice full stomach, and a happy Tora. "So not only can the light help grow the plants, but it can also attract a meal too!" She grinned triumphantly. See? this was why she chose this greenhouse.

Still, she kept an eye out for any of the more dangerous plants. After all, at meat, they were many of the plants' favorite food. Hopefully if they kept them fed with enough bugs the girls wouldn't be attacked. That being said, Tora hoped to get out of there as soon as possible. Just as soon as she finished her Astronomy Homework.

"Oh, two in one, that's clever," Adrienne replied, wary of getting anywhere near close to the plants. Did that one have... teeth? Eugh! She couldn't help but jump a bit when it snapped up the bugs that had been attracted, and she shuddered at the thought of that not-quite-jaw clamping down on her own arm. That would be painful and horrid and awful.

"Solis Focalis," she said tentatively, attracting a few flies to the light, but Adrienne was hesitant to go near any of the plants that looked like they'd actually eat them, so she just released the beam of light vaguely near-ish something with teeth poking out between its leafy lips.

Astro HW Post 3: more plant food

Was it mean of Tora to think that Adrienne jumping at the carnivorous plant's teeth a little bit funny? It was just that she was so used to seeing the other Ravenclaw so calm and collected that it was a bit of a shock to see her be afraid of something. Tora giggled a bit and pointed her wand at another dark corner.
"Solis Focalis" she said bringing out more of the creepy crawlies and directing them into the maw of another plant. "You'll never feed the plants that way," she said over her shoulder to Adrienne. "You have to get at least a little bit close to them!"

Suddenly she felt a leafy tentacle on the back of her neck. Her head whipped around and she stood eye to toothy grin with one of the plants she had yet to feed. "Uhhh... Adrienne" she whispered, afraid that if she moved the plant would strike.

"You know what?" Adrienne said, a bit snappy now, partially from fear and partially just from annoyance. "I don't actually want to feed these stupid plants. This was all your dumb idea." Okay, so maybe it was kind of a good idea, in comparison to some of her own that she'd written down for homework, but it was certainly scarier than any of hers, and plantier, and greener, and probably slimier, too, given the ooze coming from that weird-looking flower over there.

Oh... oh dear. Was that a piece of plant? On Tora's neck? Adrienne was not responsible for this, and should totally be able to just leave, quickly. And she was tempted to, under the guise of getting a teacher or something. And then Tora would probably be eaten. Yikes. In a moment of unexpected bravery, she reached out for her friend's hands and jerked her slightly to the right, then pulled her to the left and towards Adrienne and out of range of the plant.

"Eeeeeeee" Tora yelped as she was pulled to safety by Adrienne. She didn't let go of Adrienne's hand and instead ran with her out the greenhouse door, slamming it behind her. Breathing hard she looked gratefully over at her friend. "Thank you." was all she said.

But she still had to finish her astronomy homework, and she was definitely not going back into the carnivorous greenhouse number 4. "How about the flower plant greenhouse?" she asked rhetorically, shakily walking toward Greenhouse 3.

Once inside, she found the most peaceful plants she could find and "Solis Focalis" she gave them some light. Grow little plants, not ever become monsters like your neighbors in that other greenhouse.

Adrienne tripped over her own feet a bit as she was dragged out of the greenhouse, and a thrill of panic ran through her before she managed to get herself totally upright and standing properly. She took a deep breath and nodded in response to Tora's thanks. Merlin, she was never going in there again. Except maybe for actual Herbology class. But hopefully not.

"Sounds good to me," she said, opting not to point out that that's what she had jokingly suggested before instead of the carnivorous plants one. Adrienne trailed after Tora into the greenhouse and headed straight for a flutterby bush, which was waving slightly even though there was no breeze, its butterflylike flowers almost... well, almost fluttering. "Solis Focalis," she said, shedding some light on the petals and leaves.

amadshade 09-24-2013 08:12 PM

Having calmed down quite a bit now, Tora turned to more sunlight deprived plants and gave them light. "Solis Focalis." she said over and over until she felt the plants didn't need any more.

Having no interest in staying any longer than she needed to in any of the greenhouses she turned to Adrienne. "I'm ready to head out... let's go" she said before hurrying out the door and far, far, far away from that place.

For Izzy/Cutty ^_______^ (and task force wooot)

Tobias' favourite greenhouse, by an absolute landslide, was Greenhouse Three.

It was just so pretty in here, what with all the flowery plants, particularly things like the puffapods, you know? It was a really shallow reason to like the greenhouse, but it wasn't like he could stop it from being his favourite, right? Right.

Greenhouse Eight sounded amazing, and Tobias was definitely going to ask to have a look inside there with Professor Bentley, maybe next year once he'd given himself a lot more practice in the greenhouses.

Today, though, it was to Greenhouse Three to care for the beautiful plants and give them all the love and nurturing they would need. Tobias decided that he was going to focus on the Flutterby bushes, but still like... totally spread the love all around.

Once his outer cloak and school bag were hung up and safely out of the way, Tobias wrenched his dragon-hide gloves out from where he'd packed them tightly into his school bag between all his books. He made sure his wand was free of his wrist holster before pulling the gloves on, picking up his wand again and strolling down the greenhouse. Just, you know, checking on the plants.

Once he'd done one sort of circuit of the greenhouses, Tobias returned to the start of one row and aimed his wand at the wiggenbushes before him.

"Aguamentispritz," he cast, before making his way down the row again, inching slower this time as he continued to aim his wand at the shrubs, making sure they all got water, particularly down at the roots, but being careful not to drench them. If he drenched them, they might get sick and DIE, and knowingly doing that wasn't a very going way of caring for the plants with LOVE, right? Right.

"Aguamentispritz." Strollstroll.

Alright! Cutty appeared inside Greenhouse Three looking eager for some Dragon dung handling action. That was sort of the point behind Herbology, right? Handling Dragon poo, the insects, and the chance that you might get to witness one of the more aggressive plants do what it does best.

He started down the little pathway inside the greenhouse stopping to look at the variety of plants. Professor Bentley must have had an inordinately large amount of time on her hands to have kept them all...or not! He suddenly realized that it wasn't the Professor herself, but the paid-in-points labour of the student body. Though, despite this more cynical view, he seemed to not feel exploited, but rather had a fondness for the system.

The pathway eventually led to a shed, which Cutty figured might have some of that dragon dung stored away in it. The last few feet were ran and he flung open the door to find that the Skintstitution had struck again! Nothing. Not even so much as a hand shovel. What an utter disappointment.

Cutty was scowling he he ran across the only other student in the greenhouses. "Eh-yew!" He had forgotten the boys name from classes they had together, but he was sure he'd seen his face before. "Do you know where I could find some dung?" Which was a quite horrible way to ask for help in feeding the plants.

For Sarah :3 / Task Force

Huh.

Olly stood just inside one of the greenhouses, looking around at the rows of plants. She took a deep breath. Yes. Those six sickles had been worth it. Well, she hadn't happily paid them but they had been worth it at least. Pulling out her dragon hide gloves she slipped them on, her brown eyes falling on what looked to be a supplies cupboard.

Now, let's see what we have here.

Swiftly moving over to the cupboard, Olly opened it and...found nothing. Well, almost nothing. Hardly anything. She frowned at the empty shelves, her eyes narrowing into an almost-glare. Seriously just how broke was this school? She hadn't expected that she had to bring everything herself. And she couldn't leave and come back to get her private supplies because then she'd have to pay again.

Ugh.

Ugh.

Adelaide made her way into the greenhouses after paying that silly fee again. She had heard about the schools money problems, but it was still silly to have to pay to go somewhere where lessons were. She lifted her bag up on her shoulder, it being a big heavy with all of the supplies she'd had with her. She figured they wouldn't have too much to work with if they were having to pay to get in here. Plus, having her own things would just be nicer.

Addi entered the greenhouse to see someone already there. She recognized the girl from the party, but couldn't place her name. She actually thought she never knew her name in the first place. She gave her a smile and set her bag down, before turning to the plants. So they just had to take care of them yeah? She grabbed her gloves out of the bag and pulled them on.

She eyed the empty cabinet. Well, that killed the fertilizing thing. She dug around in her bag, trying to decide what to do first. "Are you here to work on the Task Force stuff too?" Might as well make small talk with the girl.

Lislchen 10-04-2013 09:42 PM

Task Force

This sucked.

Olly was still glaring at the pretty much empty cupboard, crossing her arms over her chest. This stupid stupid school. And no, she was definitely not to blame. Yes she did have all the necessary supplies in her dorm BUT...alright, she had simply forgotten to bring them. Which was very unlike her and made her glare at the cupboard even harder. Still not her fault.

Completely oblivious to the other girl's entrance (or simply ignoring it) Olly continued to stare at the empty shelves as if they would magically (no pun intended) become filled with the necessary supplies. Which of course they didn't. Only another voice brought her back from the little trance like state shed been in and she finally turned to tell the girl exactly what she thought of small talk right now.

Oh.

It was the girl from the party. Her expression softened slightly as she considered the redhead for a moment. "I WAS but..." She trailed off with a pointed look towards the empty cupboard. And because this was relevant she added, "What's your name again?" Because they should probably know each others names yeah?

If there was one thing Tobias was bad at, it was focusing on only one thing for any length of time. He supposed that that meant he was GOOD at being distracted, but really Herbology was something that required one's full attention. He was learning to give it his full focus, but... yeah... he hadn't managed it yet.

So when someone else entered, the Hufflepuff couldn't help but look away from the plants to try and see who it was, thereby losing focus on the magic. He couldn't see anyone, so Tobias looked back to the plants again.

"Aguamentispritz!" he said again, restarting the spell so he could finish the row of bushes. There weren't many left, so Tobias was finished quickly. He started back to the other end again, looking out for any shrubs that might need a bit of pruning. There was one bush right at the end which definitely looked like it could do with some of the love that Professor Bentley had mentioned.

"Hi," Tobias spoke very quietly to the bush, moving down to his knees and ignoring the water from the floor seeping through his school trousers. "I'm just going to trim away some of th-"

A voice. With words. Words directed at him.

Tobias looked up from the wiggenbush he was knelt before and to the face of another young student. He promptly gave the boy a big friendly smile.

"Hello!" he said brightly, as though this was how he was usually greeted (it wasn't). Ah. Dung. "We still don't have any, I think. Kind of have to make do I'm afraid. But you can still do loads without it!"

LOADS and loads. Like talk to the plants.

Loads without dung?! Like what? Eat a big lunch and return within a timely manner? Best to clarify before any rash decisions were made.

"Like what do they eat, then?" He began closing the gap between he and the boy. The bottles of live bugs and worms rattling in his bag as he drew nearer and he darting between the wiggenbush and Tobias.

HTF Mission 1- Post 1

Adi had found a battered old rake after a bit of searching around the Greenhouses. It seemed the place lacked basic stuff like proper gloves and manure. He had found it strange. Until he remembered the financial crisis tat had happened not so long ago.

Rake in hand, Adi marched over to some tall trees which seemed rather efficient at having their leaves fall. As if it were the tree's fault. He knew it wasn't. As the eleven year old started on his task, he hummed. Working was so much better when humming or singing and right now he was humming a rather old song called Crawling by Linkin Park.

Rake, rake, rake...hum, hum, hum...

Soon, Adi had a rather big pile of leaves neatly collected under one of the trees. But there was still more around so he got started on a second pile. Darn, this was a lot of dried up old leaves.

Tobias heard a very faint rattling coming from the boy, but though absolutely nothing of it. He was too busy thinking of a way to explain something to the boy who seemed rather put out at the prospect of not being able to work with dragon poo.

"Well," he said, getting up from the floor so he stood at his full height of 4'6" and tilting his head at the other boy with a smile. "Plants in the wild aren't always fertilised. It just sort of... boosts them I guess. A lot of plants just live on being watered and getting sunlight and getting nutrients that are already in the soil."

Which meeeeeeeant... uh... well, he didn't know.

"You can help me if you like! Even just like... showing them love and care is a KIND of food."

To prove this, Tobias turned ever so slightly back to the Wiggenbush and used his fingertips to stroke a few of the leaves. "See? Or you can read to them or talk to them or trim them, or even just help clean up the greenhouse! It's all super fun, 'cause it's all being helpful."

See?

Adi was now done with the raking and had even managed to take most of it to the compost bins. He was pleased with his efforts and was now in search of something else to do. He soon decided on watering because he found some funny looking flowering plants that were a little droopy. He thought they were baby honking daffodils. Thank goodness they were too small to make any of those weird honky sounds.

Upon closer examination, he did find they were indeed honking daffodils. He recognised them from his text book. "Why so glum, chums?'' Adi asked. "You guys need a little perking up. Hmmm. I'm guessing water?''

Yep. Definitely water, most likely. He'd go with that.

Oops. Maybe Adelaide shouldn't have talked to her. Then again, the girl's expression did soften a little. So that meant she wasn't intruding right? She sighed as she eyed the cupboard. "I had a feeling this was going to happen." Hence the reason she'd cast an Undetectable Extension Charm on her bag. It was a difficult charm to master, but it had come in handy real quick, which was why Mr. Samson taught it to her in the first place.

"I'm Adelaide. And you are?" Cuz yes. They needed to know each other's names. Especially with what was about to come out of Addi's mouth next. "I have quite a bit of the things here," she said motioning to her bag. "Aside from dung and stuff like that. We can share if you want to get things done."

Adi held his wand over the roots of the Honking Daffodil seedlings. These were tiny plants so they needed a tiny amount of water. He was having a debate on whether to give them the water manually or to use magic. Didn't want to kill the plants, did he? He could just imagine a ballistic Professor Bentley when she found out wasting no time in putting him in detention. Not a pretty picture. But there was no bucket in the place. At least he could see none.

The eleven year old sighed. He'd risk the wand. Better than doing noting and the seedlings died anyway. He'd just concentrate just enough to control the water flow or he'd pass his wand really quickly over the roots. How about both?

Yeah. Both was good.

So Adi set to work. "Aguamenti!'' Ah! Look at that! Not much water escaped from his wand tip. Good! He moved his wand over the roots, but making sure the seedlings got enough water.

Reaching the greenhouses she smiled now the first thing she would do was water. That way she wouldn't have to see the thirsty plants every time she turned around. Looking around for a plant that needed some water. Seeing some she walked over and took out her wand, "Don't worry you won't be droopy for so long!"

"Aguamenti!'' she said as she moved her wand over the roots of the plants making sure they got just the right amount of water, wouldn't want to overwater these babies! That would just be horrid and she could imagine Professor Bentley's face when she had to tell her.

Shaking her head, she moved on to another droopy plant and started to water it.

Like, hadn't the headmistress said something about how the school was better off now and stuff. Seriously what had been going on here last term then?! "Were you here last year too?" Hogwarts, not the greenhouses. Though both actually.

She smirked slowly, accompanied by a nod. "Adelaide." Yes, it was about time they knew each other's names somehow. "I'm Olly." Hi. After the girl's next words Olly considered the redhead for a moment, considering her options. Which weren't very promising. So... "Yeah. Maybe I could borrow some things." There, she even took a step closer, her eyes resting on the bag curiously.

Hannah was ready to do anything, well almost anything, to get her education back on track. She knew that she was not looking so good lately and she needed to change that. The sixth year made her way down to the greenhouses and decided to give them some extra love and attention. She was sure that Bentley would love for her to do that. Maybe she would even some a good grade for it. That would always be nice. She wouldn't say no to some extra points either.

She figured that she would start off small. She grabbed a watering tin and filled it with water. She looked around for plants that didn't seem all that dangerous. She knew that the greenhouse that she was in wouldn't have any dangerous plants in them, but that still didn't mean that she liked the looks of some of them.

She walked over to the toadstools and started to water them. She wondered if there was such thing as giving them too much water? She was pretty sure that you could kill some plants doing just that so she gave them a fair amount and moved on the the next plant.

Olly. Adelaide made a mental note, glad to have a name to go with a face finally. She gave Olly a warm smile. "I have a lot of stuff in here. Like I said." She began to pull supplies out, setting them on the table as she went. "Take whatever you'd like."

Well, he did what he could. Now the only task to do was to wait and see of the seedlings would be back to normal. If not...that would be too bad.

"I'll be back to check on you in a few days,''
Adi muttered, not at all feeling weird and worried about himself talking to a bunch of seedlings. He sort of awkwardly patted a few leaves on one. Now he felt weird. "See you guys later!''

Yep. He needed to check in on them and Adi hoped he remembered.

Nerida finished watering all the plants she saw that needed water and looked around what else could she do. Oh lookie there was a rag and a bucket. Now what could she do with those two? Hmm...

Continuing to look around she saw the dirty windows, now they needed to be cleaned. So now it was time to look for some cleaning stuff. Because the old fashioned way always worked better!! After finding the soap she put some into the bucket after she gave it a good scourgify, just to make sure at least it was cleaned before adding soap and water because that would just create dirty water, and that was water you could not clean with.

"Aguamenti," she waved her wand as she spoke the spell and filled up the bucket with water. One of the necessities to clean something! Carrying the bucket nice and carefully she walked over to the windows and dropped her rag into the soapy water.

Caleb made his way over to the greenhouses from the student garden and looked for something to do. The greenhouses were in better shape than the garden, but not by much. Noticing a neglected plant nearby, Caleb headed over.

The plant was dry. Like REALLY dry. So he took out his wand, pointed it at the poor thing and said "Aguamenti!" and watched as the water fell from his wand. He was getting pretty good at this spell!

"There, all better, yes?" he said to the plant, making sure to get real close to it so it could soak up all the carbon dioxide or whatever it was they took from people.

The greenhouses were everything that Tessa had thought they would be...and more. The first year had been excited about lots of things she had been discovering since she had gotten off the train for Hogwarts, but nothing could compare to how happy she was now.

Where do I begin? She thought to herself. There were many plants to look after, but Tessa wasn't for sure what she wanted to do. Eyeing some toadstools Tessa headed that direction. Arriving in front of them, the excited girl saw that they could use some water.

Leaving the toadstools for a few minutes, Tessa went to retrieve a watering can. She could have just used her wand and put water in the area, but that wasn't good enough for Tessa A. Hart. Back to the toadstools, Tessa caught herself humming as she filled the water can with water and found that she was starting to have fun.

Once the watering can was full, she carefully lifted it up and began watering the toadstools. "Like a light, consistent rain." She spoke to them with a smile. The watering can was difficult to maneuver but Tessa made do with what she could as she continued to hum to the toadstool as if she was singing to a baby.

Alright, now that he'd watered one of the dry plants, he decided to move on to a nearby flower that seemed to be drooping. After he watered it, he sat down on a nearby stool and got really close to the plant. To help with that carbon dioxide and stuff.

"Hello little flower. Why so down? Hopefully my, erm, breath will help you for a little bit. You're very pretty, I like the yellowish red color of your petals. My name is Caleb by the way. I'm a Slytherin. I bet you don't like Slytherins. You seem to like Hufflepuffs," he said, rambling away as he talked to the plant.

He also kind of...pet it? Would that help? He softly touched the pretty petals and then decided that was enough petting and went back to talking to it.

"So, let me tell you about my family and stuff..."

"You're looking quite good now." Tessa beamed once she had evenly spread the water across all of the toadstools she could reach, though she wasn't actually for sure if they were looking better. She inspected them from a couple feet away trying to recall if toadstools were supposed to be fed. She cocked her head to the side. "I'm not sure if you guys are supposed to get fed...and if you do, what you get fed." Tessa said with a sigh. "Sorry." She said, with another sigh. "I'd give you some more water, but I don't want to drown you in it." Tessa explained as she crouched near them.

Out of the corner of her eye, Tessa saw a plant behind her. One that she had never seen before in any of the pages she had read in her books or in her mother's own greenhouses and gardens. Getting closer to it, Tessa realized the plant was rather dry looking. "Oh no." Tessa said as she retrieved her watering can from near the toadstools. "I've got you, buddy!" She called as she made her way back. Carefully she refilled the watering can, this time with less water. "Here you go. I know you had to be thirsty. I don't know how someone missed you." Tessa said with a small sigh. If it were up to the firstie she'd live in the greenhouse and water all the plants daily!

Ella entered the greenhouse after paying the turnstile and frowned slightly. It was sad, the way the supplies had depleted so much. Even more sad considering she didn't think they'd be replenished any time soon. As much as Hogwarts had improved from last term, things like bare cupboards made it clear that money was still tight.

"Hello, you lot." Talking to plants was totally normal, duh. "Ready to get some water? You look quite thirsty." Which was sad. Being thirsty was the worst. Your throat got all scratchy and your mouth got dry and-well plants didn't have either of those things but still. It wasn't good to be thirsty.

Wand in hand, the blonde approached the first group of plants and knelt down, feeling the soil. Quite dry. Frown.

"Aguamenti!"

After watering the plant Tessa had found, she leaned in closer to look at it trying to find some sort of distinguishing fact about it that she could remember and look up once she got back to her books. As she leaned in she couldn't help but talk to it more. "You're a special one, I know." She admitted, if she wasn't so happy about being in the greenhouses, the first year would have been frustrated she didn't know what she was tending for.

"Look at that. Your roots are showing." Tessa commented as she saw some of the roots showing. With any plant, Tessa knew that roots showing was probably not a good thing. "I'll be right back, promise. I won't strand you in need." Tessa told the plant as if it was a child before she ran off to find fertilizer.

Caleb looked around and saw that a ton of people were talking to their plants now. Like a TON! He must have sparked a movement. Awwww yeah. He was awesome. Now moving on to his last task...

He noticed another shrub in desperate need of trimming nearby. What was with these people not trimming the plants? If their branches got too long, they were a serious hazard. You could walk into one and it would knock you right off your feet. So he took out his wand and decided to give Diffindo a shot - after all, how was he going to get better at the spell if he didn't PRACTICE?

He waved his wand. "Diffindo!" he cried. Snip snip snip. He watched as a few of the overgrown branches fell to the ground. He'd done it! And he hadn't cut the plant in half in the process.

Smiling happily, he packed up his things, feeling very successful about his participation in helping tidy up the greenhouses.

"Rub-a-dub-dub, flowers getting a scrub, and water but without the tub..." Yeah, she wasn't the best at making songs up on the spot. She was totally going to hum to the plants, though. Cause humming could be just as nice as singing, yeah? Even nicer than if you had a horrible voice. The blonde was also making good progress on the whole watering thing. Mhm.

Ella came to another section of plants and looked at them thoughtfully, remembering something. Not all plants needed that much water, yeah? Plus they'd learned another spell that would conserve water and still give out the appropriate amount. Sort of like a sprinkler flow but with your wand. Perhaps she'd use that this time. It seemed like a good plan to her.

Tapping her chin for a moment or two, the blonde tried to remember the spell. Aguaspray? ... ... Aguasplash? ...Aguaspritz! YES! That was it. Cool beans, yo.

"Aguamentispritz!"

Awwww yeah. Spritzing like a boss.

Time to take care of some plants!!! Lex could do that, she totally could and this time she wouldn't accidentally hack away at any of them then have to go hiding them afterwards. Not that that would have been the a problem. The compost bin could never be TOO full. Ahem...just saying, in case anyone was curious.

Lex hopped into the Greenhouse, chocolate frog dangling from her mouth and kneazle tucked under her arm. These were all she needed to get some extra work done. Of course a friend would have been appreciated too but she was fresh out of those at the moment and needed to get this done while she could still find the motivation.

"What do you think we should do first?" She asked, stopping and placing Felix on the ground. The kneazle walked to the nearest set of plants and hopped on to the stand. Lex nodded, completely pretending to understand like the good kneazle owner and mommy she was. "Right. These. We can start here." Or here..or over heeeeere.

"Aguamenti!"

Fertilizer? Where would someone find that? When Tessa realized she didn't actually know where she was going to find the fertilizer she just stopped walking all together and looked around the greenhouse. "Anyone know where some fertilizer is?" She asked to no one in particular. Maybe if she got lucky one of the healthy plants would point her in the right direction.

When she finally caught sight of the cupboard Tessa nearly ran across the greenhouse to get there. Who knew how long the plant that Tessa found would have if she didn't get the fertilizer in fast time? No one, so it was very important that Tessa do things quickly. At the cupboard she opened it up to find...

Hardly anything. "That's weird." Tessa mumbled to herself. Why would there not be things in the cupboard? Things were supposed to be stored there for safe keeping, why was it so bare? The young Gryffindor then remembered talk around the school about what happened the previous year. Surely they kept a little bit of fertilizer around!

Sure enough, Tessa found a small amount that she knew she could use. "It's not much." Tessa said to the plant softly as she began to put the fertilizer on, careful to not be too forceful. "But it's enough for now. I'll find you some more and visit again." Tessa said as she stroked the stem of the plant gently where there should have been more fertilizer. "Until then, my new friend. I'm happy we met. Maybe next time I'll bring my books with me and we can read together." Because people talk and read to plants...right?

Although she wished she could have stayed a bit longer, Tessa could feel her stomach starting to growl for food. It must have been close to lunch by then. The still ever excited first year hoped she still had time to stop by again before going off to classes after lunch.

Plants needed water and some needed lots of light, yeah? Only the window panes in the greenhouse weren't exactly clean at the moment. This meant that getting the proper amount of light would be quite hard to do. Deciding this just wasn't right, Ella wandered over and assessed the situation. Some definite cleaning was in order.

"Don't worry, you guys. You'll have some light in no time at all." Captain Ella to the rescueeeee!

Then Ella pointed her wand at the window pane nearest her and said clearly, "Scourgify!" That's right, dirt. Time to be on your way.

It probably wasn't all that okay to simply water one potted plant and move to a completely NEW section without getting the others. It'd kinda look mean and like you were discriminating or something 'cept that wasn't the case and she'd probably just hurt the feelings of the little darlings. "Hey Felix...you ever get the feeling that since we're meant to be doing this with love we ought to talk to them too? I heard it helps them grow." Felix gave no reply but simply walked further down the table, flicking his tail at the dry plant pots. She would take that as a yes, but first. "You won't have to get jealous, I'll still talk to you too, in fact...."

Lex walked down the table behind the kneazle, making a mental check as she went. These would all need water. She stopped when he did. "I think introductions are in order. Felix, these are the plants in this section of the Greenhouse. Plants in this section of the Greenhouse, this is Felix." See how less awkward it was when everyone knew each other? Huh? Huuuh?

"Aguamenti!" They all got water while she went on. "Now that that bit's been taken, what have you all been up to today? I imagine you've been doing a lot of cloud watching but that must be awfully rude of me. You all probably get into the most epic of things while I'm off in class or having a meal." Was that enough water? It looked like it.

Oh! Fertilizer, she would need some of that. "Felix, watch the plants will you? I'll be right back."

Now where did she see that dung?

"But I still want to help you." Yes, because that was tooootally what was going on here. Cutty was helping Tobias. M'mm-H'mm. Why not. "Got anything OTHER than taking them on romantic walks on the shore?"

Tobias, being Tobias, smiled when Cutty started to laugh. He liked to make people smile, after all. Even when the boy spoke, Tobias kept on smiling. It wasn't his usual grin, but he was still happy that the other boy was happy, and of COURSE, Tobias was always ready to help.

"That's okay! A lot of people don't like talking to plants and stuff, 'cause I mean they aren't really sentient, you know? But they... are? But not. I think they just... sense stuff. Like how people can sense emotions," Toby half-explained, looking back at the shrub he'd been talking to. It was difficult to explain how he believed the plants were sort of semi-sentient, and given the way this boy had laughed, maybe it was a bit much to try and explain straight away.

Anyway, yes... the plants.

Toby took half a step back again, ready to focus on the plants and get all down on their level, and looked thoughtfully around the greenhouse. "You could always help clean the place?" he suggested, before he caught sight of a nearby flutterby bush. "Or you could help me trim and prune away some of the dead parts of these shrubs? Or water some of the ones I missed?"

With that, Tobias got down onto his knees again and sort of gently ran his fingers over some of the leaves on the wiggenbush again, communicating that he was still here. "It's a shame about the dung... it always helps to have some. But unless you happen to know a dragon nearby that's been on a high-fibre diet..."

Ahem.

Yeah.

Best get on with the plant stuff.

Kace made his way to the greenhouse. As he made his way he noticed other students managed to make it. He saw them busy at work. He wondered what he could do first? He looked at the window panes and knew those guys needed cleaning.

He first walked over to get some gloves so he wouldn't get his hands dirty. He saw it and thought he could use the cleaning charm. He said, "Scourgify!" and then he saw the window was clean but he needed to scrub some of the nooks out. He took his glove and scrubbed out the grime and mold. He was whistling and having a good time. He already knew how to clean since he always cleaned on the farm.

He was onto the second window pane now. He said..."Scourgify!" and then it was clean and he saw even more dirt and mold into the tiny nooks and crannies. He scrubbed and even more scrubbed and even sang to them. He had no idea why but he just did.

Lex had gotten to the other end of the Greenhouse before she found the cupboard containing things she would need to help her take care of the plants in the greenhouse and the greenhouse itself. Considering her main focus would be the plants she and Felix had found, she didn't bother taking too much dung with her. She eyed the amount in her hands. This should have been enough.

Once back with the plants she gave Felix a nod of appreciation for not having the plants wander off while he was meant to be watching them. No telling what could happen in a Greenhouse. It may have seemed all nice and innocent and simple but there was always something LURKING.

"This will make you grow big and pretty. I don't exactly know how it works," She began patting it down into the soil around each plant, "and in some cultures, when done to a person can and usually IS considered an insult but not with you darlings. You're all so understanding." Pat pat pat. "I don't think I'd be able to sit still and have someone sprinkle dung all around me but you all see pass that and right at the benefits to be achieved or something like that. Honestly I don't know how you all do it and I try not to question it." Patpatpatpat..

Okay, that was all of them nice and snug in fertilizer, ready to start benefiting from it at their earliest convenience. Lex glanced over at the first plant in the row she'd been caring for.

"Just look at your leaves. Mmm, do you see that Felix?" By all indications she was still being ignored. He was used to this by now. She had a habit of speaking to things that didn't have the ability to respond. This wasn't all that much of a problem though considering she was MEANT to talk to them anyway but really...how would the Professor know? Did the plants report back to her at the end of the day? An interesting thought she would have to ask about.

Alright so he got those windows all nice and clean. He had to use a little elbow grease but hey it paid off in the end right? Even his arms were aching and he had to stretch them out. He flexed and waved his arms around and then he realized there was a pile of leaves next to him that needed some raking. He went over to the greenhouse to get the rake.

He climbed through all the supplies and managed to find one. It seemed old but you never know how long this stuff was in here for. As long as it did its job then he was fine with it. He took the rake out and went over to the pile. He put it down and started to....

Rake....rake....rake...rake...and even more raking into little piles. He was actually having fun with this. He was whistling to, "Whistle while you work." Once he was finished with his little piles, then he moved them all into a BIG pile to burn. He WISHED he could play in them but he knew he couldn't....that was just make a bigger mess. He wondered if there were any garbage bags in this place before he resorted to burning them.

Post 4 - Cutty's first try (not a very good one)

"I guess I'll trim and prune." The boy said trying to sound as if it were the only thing he could do, but coming across a bit too eager to handle shears and give the plants terrible haircuts. The boy rummaged through his bag immediately seeking out a pair of shears, anything that would cut really. Tail-twig trimmers. Those would have to do since Cutty doubted there would be any in the storage space. They gleamed against the light, reflecting it upwards as Cutty flexed them open and shut twice to try out their ease.

He hopped over to a nearby shrub and, unsure of what to cut made an ill-informed decision to snip a blossom off. Wouldn't Professor Bentley like a bouquet showing the fruits of their labour?

He ceased about to make his second snip to reflect on Tobias's remark about the dragon dung. "That's dizgoostin!" He huffed which was followed by another snip, this time getting a dying leaf he thought looked cool. He had to be kidding, however. For the the things this kid handled in his lifetime thus far. He had to be kidding.

Once he was done raking the leaves, he realized he needed to do more tasks. He was already sweating. He used his forearm and wiped the sweat from his forehead. Wheww...he was REALLY working a sweat. But then again he was doing a good deed cleaning up the greenhouse for the professor. All the hard work would be worth.

He walked over to the board to see what else he could do. Oh he could do trimming by the bushes near the windows. He went over to the supply closet and got out the trimming scissors, he really didn't know what they were called, but he found them. He made sure they worked and they did. He went over to the bush and started to...

Snip....snip....snip....snip....snip....snip....an d even more snip.......

Then he realized he needed some bags to collect all the left over branches and leaves. He went to the supply closet to get bags and then he collected them all in the bag. Man this was a lot of labor, he even felt the sweat dripping down his back. "Well guys you must be feeling better." he said to the bushes.

Trimming and pruning, awesome! Tobias gave the probably-younger-kid a big friendly smile and turned back to the wiggenbush he was still knelt beside.

"So, I'm just gonna trim some of these dead bits away, 'kay?" the Hufflepuff practically murmured. But he wasn't talking to the other boy, oh no. He was addressing the shrubbery.

Tobias already knew which parts of the bush he needed to trim off, and instantly reached over for one of those parts. "Flipnsnipwitit," he cast as he aimed his wand carefully at the small connecting branch and moved his wand kinda like a karate chop. The dead piece of shrub came off in his hand, and Tobias looked to see how the other boy was doing.

At first, Toby nodded to himself and turned back to his own plant, but quickly turned back again. Was that a... blossom? Like, a totally healthy one? And Tobias instantly recognised THAT instrument as-

"Tail-Twig Clippers?"

Tobias' voice escaped him in a squeak and he shuffled a bit closer on his knees, eager to help some more. Though whether he saw himself as helping the boy or the bush, Toby didn't know.

"Um... there's a spell you can use to do that, if you wanna learn it? It's super neat, look," the boy pointed out, speaking a little faster than before. "See... if you find a dead part of the plant, like that leaf you have, you just kinda slash your wand where you wanna cut it off and say 'Flipnsnipwitit.'" As Tobias had spoken, he had indeed cast the spell on his own shrub, and turned back to the other boy with an encouraging smile. "It's... really good for the plants."

Good for them in the way that Tail-Twig Clippers were not.

Cutty noted that the boy was speaking a little faster. He recognized this tone. His mother had adopted it every now and again whenever Cutty was doing something right in the wrong way and required further explanation. The firstie put away his tail-twig trimmers and took out his wand instead. The peculiar pronunciation of that spell made him snort a little. But oh, yes! This was a spell he could use even apart from Herbology. Those tail-twig clippers were not a lightweight item in his school bag.

Cutty mimicked the karate-chop type wand motion and quietly repeated the incantation to himself. He gave the older kid a smile and a nod as he turned to get back to work. This kid was dead useful. He would be keeping him around. Getting back to the flowering bush, Cutty raised and fell his wand against some leaves that appeared to be browning and drying out. "Flipnipsnibbit!" No. Pretend he didn't say that. "Flipnsnipwitit!" He said more slowly and clearly as he repeated the wand motion. To his surprise it was an incredibly cooperative spell, and the brown detached itself from the rest of the healthy plant.

"So, erhm, are you Bentley's favourite student like?" He asked, wondering outloud. "And it's...something with a T, right?" He thought he'd heard the kids name being said in a class before.

After Kace was in the garden he made it back to the greenhouse because he was almost done. He was gonna collect his bags before he was gonna do another job. He did most of the work he needed to do but he saw some plants that needed fertilizing and watering. He had to go the plants and replace the soil and then he added the new soil with the fertilizer. He was patting the plants softly and giving them TLC like he did with the bushes earlier.

The plants seemed to like it because they were moving. Then he got the watering can and walked over and watered it. It was sucking the water up and loving it. "There you go little guy." Kace said and went onto the next plant. It seemed like it was his brother or sister. He replaced the soil with the newly fertilized soil and then he patted it softly once more and was singing to the plant and he even lightly patted the leaves. It seemed to like the gesture. Then he got the watering can and started to water it. They seemed happier and Kace smiled doing his good deed.

Once he felt he was done, he went over to a sink and started to wash his hands. He even wiped the sweat off his brow and forehead. He never realized how much work was needed in this place but he did it.

Lex was now in a bit of a fix. She could either ignore the simply HIDEOUS withering leaves that some of these plants had or she could take the risk of snipping them off but that usually left her with naked plants and a few things that needed hiding. She was trying to take care of the Greenhouse and it's plants here, not make them worse. She looked to Felix, figuring he would have a smart reply to this but by the looks of it she would say no.

Alright. Nooo problem.

She had a very simple solution to this. Lex walked back to the first plant in her line of plants and gave it a small, encouraging smile as she took hold of it's dried leaf. "This is only gonna hurt a little, I promise. You'll hardly feel a thing in the first place and if you do...it probably wasn't dead to begin with which is kinda sucks for you but...yeah... I don't think I should keep talking. It's probably not putting you at ease...unless it's distracting you in which case I could talk on, you know?"

No answer...no cringing away from. This was a silent go ahead.

Lex plucked the leaf from the stalk and dropped it to the ground. Look at that. Dead leaf gone and by all indications the plant was still living. "See??? TOLD you it wouldn't hurt!" GRIN. Or did it but the plant was being a total Gryffindor about the whole thing? If that was the case it should continue like that because she wasn't done plucking. She searched the plants, plucking away at dried leaves here and there until they were all looking fresh and green. Just the way Professor Bentley liked them.

"No need to thank me guys, just doing my job, you know?" And beams for all of them.

When he DID manage it, it was all Toby could do not to go a little bit over the top. But he kept his composure, and gave the other boy a thumbs up and a grin. "Nice one!"

Right, so now more work.

As Tobias shuffled back a bit on his knees, his focus went to the ground, he listened to the other boy's question and grinned a bit. "Probably not! I don't think they have favourites. I'm just sort of... naturally pretty good at Herbology," he explained, picking up fallen leaves and other things from around the bush that could go on the compost heap or in the bin, and clearing the area around him, reaching further and further out. Just to clear up the area a bit, you know?

Something with a- OH! "Oh, sorry. My name's Toby, or Tobias. I don't mind which," the Hufflepuff grinned, wiping one slightly dirty hand on the side of his trousers to clean it off before holding it out for a handshake. "I'm sorry though... I don't think I know your name."

She was happy to soak in the appreciation of the plants, even stroking and grinning at a few of them (love, they were getting love) but then Felix hopped off the table and made his way down the greenhouse again. Where in merlin's beard did he think he was going?? "Gimme one sec, guys, I'll be right back. Rogue kneazle problems, you understand." Lex followed behind him until they were back by the supplies. He began nudging a rake.

Alexa raised an eyebrow at him. "What do I look like? The maintenance crew? I'm just taking care of the plants like I'm meant to then we're leaving." In case he'd forgotten that in the short (or not so short) time they'd been in here. All the plant chemicals must have been getting to his furry little head. You raked things out in the student garden, NOT in a Greenhouse. No. Absolutely not. Imagine how silly she would look raking inside.

Despite her protest, he kept nudging at the rake until it toppled over, carrying down a few others with it. Lex scowled down at him. "I hope you're happy." She said, scooping him up then picking up the fallen rakes and such. "Now can we get baaaack to the plants??" It wasn't actually a question, she was hauling his butt back over so they could hurry up with this thing. Back at the table he walked to the far end and began brushing the window with his tail. She looked up from her plant inspecting and leave stroking. "Stop that." But the kneazle continued. Lex gave a heavy sigh. "I said to knock it off. You won't let me give you a bath later so quit messing up your tail."

Persistent kneazle was persistent. -____-

Olly. Adelaide made a mental note, glad to have a name to go with a face finally. She gave Olly a warm smile. "I have a lot of stuff in here. Like I said." She began to pull supplies out, setting them on the table as she went. "Take whatever you'd like."

Olly huffed in agreement when Adelaide said she hadn't known what to expect. Yeah. Who would've thought it would be THIS bad. Oh and it was her first year here too? There were quite a few new fifth years huh? Simply nodding in reply the Hufflepuff didn't voice her thoughts however. She wasn't THAT keen on small talk with the other girl after all.

Still. A lot of fifth years.

Returning Adelaide's smile with a smirk, Olly moved closer to stand next to her so she was able to look at the things she set on the table. "Thanks." She mumbled, not really paying attention to the Slytherin anymore but instead regarding the supplies carefully. They weren't her things but they would have to do. With an annoyed sigh she reached for a pair of pruners before moving over towards one of the plants. One who looked quite dried out. Aka dead. Partly dead anyway.

With a bit of fertilizer and water it might survive though.

Admittedly...he was getting on her last nerve with his attempt to get the section of the window clean. Honestly. It wasn't even like he was making much of a difference and scowling was getting her nowhere by the looks of it. Remembering that patience thing she'd promised to try she took a deep breath then drew her wand.

A part of her felt offended by the fact that even then he didn't stop but she couldn't really blame him. He knew she'd never cast at him no matter what. This is why one was not meant to spoil their pet kneazle.

"Alright alright, step aside." Lex finally said. Her plant loving and leaf stroking would have to halt for a minute. She gave Felix enough time to get out of the way then turned to the dusty windows. These would make it harder for the poor plants to get any sunlight. "This is how you clean a window." Not that he'd be able to copy but gosh, leave it to her in future, yes? "Vitrumonia!" A simple window cleaning spell was FAR more effective than a kneazle's tail. DUH.

Now the plants had a nice clean window to get light through. She turned to the window directly next to it. "Vitrumonia!" And again with the other on the other side. Her little section of plant babies were now well taken care of. They were watered, talked to, clipped (plucked, same thing) and now given more sunlight. She was SUCH a good plant mommy.

"Scourgify."

The windows were definitely looking cleaner now. Ella tilted her head and smiled as the light poured in, feeling the warmth on her face. Did the plants feel it too? The seventeen year old sidled out of the way in case she'd been blocking the light.

Now it was time for some TLC, yeah? Because plants needed more than just light and water to survive. Ella pulled up a spare stool and sat in front of a section of various greenery, ready to tell all the plants a story. Hm.

"Once upon a time there was a little badger with great hair." Y'know, just saying. "And this little badger was afraid that all of the other badgers, snakes, eagles, and lions wouldn't want to be friends with her." Because the erm...animals at the badger's old school had said she was a freak. Mhm. "But then she met some particularly nice ones who thought that she was nice too." Best friends doing best friend thingsss. "And the little badger learned not to be so afraid. She even decided to try out for the uh...badger house team so that she could play with her badger friends." Were the plants bored yet? She was almost done with her story. "And so the badger learned that not all animals were cruel and she grew to like meeting new ones and making more friends." Yup, not all animals were as horrible as the ones she'd known when she was small. "And she lived happily ever after...erm hopefully." THE END.

"Did you like that story?" PAUSE. ... ... ... "I'll take that as a yes."

The blonde then returned the stool and gathered her things, glancing back at the greenhouse with an approving nod. Not too shabby. "See you guys again soon."

Raven realized she had a lot of work to do for Herbology compared to her other classees, but reveled in this fact since she had a love for plants and animals. Before digging in her heels she decided to start with an easy task in Greenhouse 1. Washing the window panes. Taking out her dragon hide cloves out of her pack putting them on, she realized that her wand would probably be a better option then washing them manually. But then she realized the lesson about the tea. She realized this was the perfect opportunity to put her magical knowledge to the test. She needed to make a cleaning solution using the tea. She needed to go to her room to get her couldron to mix the solution in. She exited the greenhouse and decided she would return as soon as possible.

Raven easily returned to the greenhouse with her cauldron full of her tea cleaning solution and she began to manually wash the window panes with a dirty rag that was sitting on some shelves. The windows did look cleaner though it would have helped to know a cleaning charm. She needed to brush up on her skills in the library she realized. After cleaning the windows in Greenhouse 1 she decided to ask Professor Bentley how they looked before doing any more.

Raven walked back over to the windows. She wanted to dry them before the tea left water droplets all over them. She said "Siccus Aerous" and the windows dried off while doing the clockwise hand motion. She also used the spell on the rag and it dried too. "Wow this spell comes in handy." She used the spell on the cauldron as well to heat up the solution. She might as well clean the other greenhouse windows while she was at it. She needed to perfect the spell before her next Herbology lesson.

With an expression Cutty thought might read as dignified, he shook the man called Tobias's hand and introduced himself. "Cutty Mordaunt. First year, Slytherin."

Wand in hand, Cutty went back to his pruning, sort of just leaving the dispensable bits of the plant that he'd caused to fall for later gathering. "Flipnsnipwitit!" Karate chop! "Flipnsnipwitit!" Karate chop! It was kind of enjoyable, really. It would be something that he could do whilst plotting thinking of other things to do and he liked that possibility. His thoughts about thoughts interrupted by a somewhat untidy vine. "So, am I to cut everything dead off? Even if it's just overgrown?"

Once he'd shook hands with the other boy, Cutty, Tobias gathered up the dead pieces of plant and other such matter from the ground around the wiggenbush until there was nothing else to pick up. He went and deposited the suitable stuff on the compost heap and then returned to the bushes, where he decided to work on the next bush too.

While he was deciding where it would be best to use the specific severing charm, Toby heard Cutty speak again and looked over. He gave another big smile because that's how you INTERACTED with people and then answered.

Mo poked his head into the greenhouse, trying to see what was the what and who was there. No West, no Alice, but he spotted Lex and Toby and some younger kids he hadn't met yet. At that, Mo slid all the way into the greenhouse and made his way to a few of the flowering bushes that seemed a little out of control. He was going to endeavor not to get eaten, bitten, or poisoned with the Quidditch game coming up so soon.

This was why he was Ravenclaw and not a Gryffindor. Planning.

Mo fingered the leaves of the first bush, plucking off a few that were dead and sad looking and setting them aside to be composted. If he was going to do this, he needed to do it right, huh? "So I'm supposed to talk to you and tell you how pretty you are, but I"m not gonna sing because that's... you'd die. And you are way too pretty to die."

He knelt beside the bushes again, giving them each a solid pat before he dug into the bed around their roots, pulling out weeds and loosening the dirt.

It seemed like she'd barely gotten anytime to admire her freshly cleaned windows before her kneazle hopped off the table once more and was off. She...was getting rather tired of that. How hard was it to curl up and sleep like he always did??? She would have preferred that to him running about the greenhouse. This may not have been the one for flesh-eaters but you just never know with plants.

Lex gave an apologetic look to the plants she'd been caring before hurrying after the Felix. She gave a sigh when she saw him come to a stop by someone--Oh? Even from behind she knew who that was.

"Mo!" Whatever he was doing caught the felines attention long enough for her to sneak over at scope him up. He'd lost his ground privileges for the rest of the day, unless something came up that would require both her hands. "If I'd know you were coming out here I'd have waited a bit longer before caring my plants."

Weeding...she never weeded hers but...they didn't LOOK like the life was being drained out of them by a vicious parasite. They were FIIIINE. "You need any help?"

Mo glanced up at Lex and wiggled his gloved fingers at her, flicking dirt and perhaps a nice earthworm in her direction. Oh, no, definitely an earthworm. "Cambridge. What exactly is the function of a cat in a greenhouse? And I'm not being facetious. I honestly don't know."

He returned his attention to the dirt around the base of the flowering bushes, carefully removing each weed individually and adding it to his growing pile of weeds. There weren't many, but then these plants were highly managed. He supposed he would find loads more around the plants out in the student gardens, where plants were allowed to grow a bit more... naturally.

"Do you suppose plants like being sung to, even if you can't sing?" He patted the nearest bush again. Pretty bush.

He was flicking things at her, things she would overlook for the sake of the question he was asking. The function of a cat in a greenhouse? "I dunno. I've never had one in here before." Was this like a trick question that she'd have to answer? Was his Ravenclaw brain working in overdrive again? That wouldn't be any good for her. He'd start talking in advanced Ravenclaw logic then merlin knows she'd understand little to nothing.

Felix not putting up a fight in her hands told her that he was just about ready to settle in. About time. Lex wasn't prepared to spend her afternoon chasing him around tables of plants and the like. Not today thanks.

And there went Mo asking even mooore weird questions. The fourth year tilted her head and gave him a curious look. It was hard to tell if he was being serious or simply asking questions to pass the time. She would go with the first one...just in case. "I suspect they'll like any attention you give them. Most times they just sit in here in a lonely silence waiting for something to happen."

Mo's singing, no matter how terrible, would probably be the highlight of their day. "You could give it a shot. If they suddenly wither and die, we'll assume it's a bad idea." Nodnodnod.

Lex was a stoic little thing (not so little thing anymore?) and didn't flinch at all about earthworms and flinging dirt, so Mo just grinned cheerfully and turned his attention back to the plants that he had temporarily adopted. He shoved the pile of weeds in her direction, hoping she could take the to the compost for him. That was what friends did, right?

"You have one in here now, though. Or a kneazle, at least, in case you didn't notice," Mo nodded at the feline in her hands. What was he doing here, Lex? Didn't she understand the question? Smart girl like that... she totally did.

Mo stood and brushed the dirt from his gloves, considering the problem of showing love to plants when one wasn't a singer. "I'm not willing to take it out on them, just because I have a rubbish voice. Truly rubbish, and not just me pretending to be humble. Aguamenti." Mo pointed his wand at the base of his bushes, watering each of them until the dirt was well-moistened. These pots had good drainage, so he wasn't as worried about over-watering.

Mo answered her question without actually answering it at all. He'd want her taking care of the weeds. Adding them to the compost bin most likely. Considering she'd been the one to offer, she didn't actually complain or make faces at him while he wasn't looking. Instead she placed the kneazle by his side, scoped up the weeds and made her way down the Greenhouse toward the compost bin.

It wasn't until she was on her way back over that she heard him referring to her kneazle. "Oh! You mean Felix?" He served PLENTY of purposes and had a lot of use. "He's my company. I took him here so I wouldn't have to work alone. Been doing a good job so far." In fact she was done so he'd done an epic job. THAT was the function of a kneazle in a Greenhouse.

Lex found herself snickering at him. "I think you give yourself less credit than you deserve. The tree you sang to last term didn't complain and it's bark didn't suddenly begin peeling off the moment you tried." She could remember Mo singing last term. Not the most melodious thing out there but it didn't curdle milk either...in theory. Had he ever tried out his talent by a tall glass of milk before? The results could be interesting.

"Talking to them works just as well. They like the company."

"I wonder if they can tell I'm talking to you and not to them," Mo watered down the row of bushes, kneeling a few times to handle the dirt and check just how wet they were getting. Not too bad, so he continued down the line. Each bush got a pat, and the last one, which was smaller and kind of pale looking got a cheerful, "Keep at it, Bushy-bush. You'll be Whomping Willow big one day, I promise."

So encouragement. That was good, right?

Mo eyed Felix-the-kneazle again when he returned to Lex, although he was smart enough to know not to question Lex OR Felix. They were just a bit too much like Vivi and Macha, and Mo had permanent scars to account for those two. "I'm not going to sing." Just... not.

He did reshape some of the bigger bushes, pulling out their most unkempt branches and cutting them back with the trimming spell. "Flipnsnipwitit." These trimmings were shoved toward Lex as well, and Mo hoped she'd carry the extra leaves and branches and things to the compost too. She was so helpful.

"Are you all done in here?"

Cutty glanced between the boy, Tobias and the overgrown vine. Silently, he took in the information before deciding that it was indeed overgrown and that it would be best to cut it away. "Flipnsnipwitit!" He cut away, still a little fascinated by the use and cutting power of the spell Tobias had taught him. He couldn't wait to try this outside of Herbology. Cutty moved on to another flowering bush and repeated the spell causing the dead bits of the plant to fall down to the ground beneath.

"What are you doing with that pile? Are you going to jump into it later?" As one might with raked leaves.

...and what was that sigh about? Addi ignored it. Best not to bring it up as she learned from past experiences. She grabbed her wand and headed over to some nearby plants. "Aguamenti." She muttered moving her wand to slowly water the group in front of her.

Trimming the plant wasn't as exciting as it usually was. Something had put her in a particularly foul mood today. So after a while, Olly scowled down at the plant for a while and then at Adelaide's pair of pruners in her own hands. She should've brought her own supplies. This wasn't the same. Why had she missed to bring them here? Stupid. Because the school supplies (HAD THERE BEEN ANY) wouldn't have been good enough either probably.

Brain, where was her brain lately?

"I don't think this one needs any more water." Olly pointed out with a nod towards the plant Adelaide was currently using the spell on. It wasn't drowning or anything but still, there were plants in here that could have better use of the water emerging from the girl's wand. Watching the Slytherin a little longer, Olly finally set her tool aside and went ahead to pick on some of the dried, dead leaves of the plant in front of her. Maybe she should just leave and come back another day with her own things.

Try as she might to ignore it, Sophie couldn't get past the part of the assignment that required her to give love to a plant. UGH. This was so annoying. She was a firm believer that plants didn't have a brain and couldn't comprehend what was going on. This was only going to make her look silly.

Again, ...UGH.

She made her way into the greenhouses in search of a plant that needed attention. Apparently, the other students had already been here, because most of the plants looked well attended to. However, in the very back, she saw a plant that looked pretty wilted. This was the one, she decided. As she approached the plant, she whipped out her wand. Waving it around, she said, "Aguamenti!" Water shot from the wand and onto the plant, and when Sophie thought it had been watered enough, she ended the spell.

...and now for a short, very quiet song.

It's a small world after all,
It's a small world after all,
It's a small world after all,
It's a small, small world.

There. She'd be back later to see if that had helped.

"Are you all done in here?"

"They probably can." She said with a simple shrug. "You've probably offended them by now but I don't think they'll mind too much considering how well you're taking care of them." Plants had this thing. You didn't have to make things obvious, they just knew. That was why she'd been so sure to talk DIRECTLY to the plants she was caring for, at the expense of ignoring her own kneazle and having him run about.

Mo not singing wasn't all that big a deal. It was probably actually a really good thing so she wouldn't pester him into it. Besides, she didn't think there was anything she could get him to do once he decided he wouldn't. It was a Ravenclaw thing.

Lex watched him clipping away at the plants but before a comment could be made she was being sent back to compost bin duty? WELL THEN.

The Gryffindor took a moment to remind herself that she had walked over to him and couldn't complain when he gave her work because she offered to help. That being once again, firmly lodged in her mind, she gave him a nod then got to adding them to the compost bin. To think she thought she was done here for today.

Op, there was the question right on cue. "Yup, completely done! Mhm!" No more compost bin going, yeah?

Herbology Task Force 1 - Post 2

Water, water, water. Her toadstools were looking nice and refreshed. She wandered around looking for more plants to water. It wasn't like this task alone would not keep her busy. She really hoped that the professor appreciated all that she was doing because she could totally be doing something cooler and definitely something that was more fun.

She walked over to some plants that she didn't recognize and decided to give them some water as well. Every single plant needed water to survive right? So there couldn't be any harm in watering whatever plant she came to. She paid careful attention to how much water she was giving them just to make sure that she didn't kill anything. She was sure that Bently would not appreciate that too much.

Feeling satisfied with the amount of water given she walked over to another plant that had beautiful pink flowers on it. This plant definitely looked like it could use some fresh water. She hummed to herself as she watched the water pour from her watering can.

Just one more trip into the greenhouses for now, and Sophie will have done her good plant deeds for the month. She'd done pretty good, she thought, and had even learned a few new spells. Of course, she'd really have to want to save the plants of the world to use the spells she'd learned, but at least it would earn her some good marks in class.

She decided to check on the plant she'd sung to just a few days earlier. She was really curious as to whether or not all that singing really did help. SHe doubted it, but curiosity had the best of her. Approaching the plant, she was surprised to see that it was indeed thriving. Now if that was all due to her singing or not, she didn't know.

She knelt down next to it and decided to water it once again. "Aguamenti!" she said, aiming her wand toward the plant. After she'd watered it enough, she put her wand away. ...and then, she got all Hufflepuff-y with this plant. "So I wrote you a poem," she told it, "but don't get all mushy. I'm only doing this for points, mmkay?"

"When I met you, you were dying,
But I didn't give up on trying.

I watered you and sang a song,
Then left you here all the day long.

For a few days, I stayed away,
And I just came back to check today.

A surprise I did see, for you're doing well.
Was it my singing? I guess you'll never tell."

Okay, yeah. She was SO not doing that again...or anything like it. She quickly eyed her surroundings, folded up her poem and pocketed it, then left without another word.

Nerida came back to the greenhouses with a book. Time to read to the plant... She thought it was weird to read to a plant but it was on the list.. So it was either that or kiss...Or hug the plant... Weird. As she walked to one of the plants she had watered earlier she smiled as she saw the little girl read a poem to the plant. It was cute!!

Sitting down next to the plant she noted that the plant needed some trimming but she could do that after reading to it. Flipping open her book, she looked around before reading. “I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees. I speak for the trees for the trees have no tongues.” She loved the Lorax... And it was like the perfect book right? Because she was reading to a plant and the Lorax was you know environmental and adorable!!!

You're in charge of the last of the Truffula Seeds. And Truffula Trees are what everyone needs. Plant a new Truffula. Treat it with care. Give it clean water. And feed it fresh air. Grow a forest. Protect it from axes that hack. Then the Lorax and all of his friends may come back.”

She smiled as she finished and looked over at the plant, "I loved that!! Did you??" she asked even though she knew it was not going to answer her back. "I want a Truffula tree! Do you think Professor Bentley has one? Or can make one? That would be so cool!!" Okay now she needed to stop she was talking to the tree like it would answer.

Adelaide noticed the look on Olly's face. Something had definitely gotten under her skin. But the red head had learned early on not to try and cheer people up when they were like this. It just ended in her getting yelled at or made fun of and both were very sucky.

She looked up from the plant she'd been watering at the Hufflepuff. "Right. Got it." She had just been about to move on to another group as it was. Adelaide moved on a little ways down the row to water the plants over there. The soil was definitely dry on these ones. "Aguamenti."

They'd been in the castle for almost a week now and he'd gathered enough information about the Hogwartians' life. It was both similar and different to their life at Beauxbatons. Which was natural and normal. However, he wasn't here just to observe and though he looked like a nice guy, deep down he wasn't feeling very nice. Third place?!. Oh, no, that didn't happen. He was almost sure there was some kind of a mistake. These Hogwarts students didn't look like they cared much about their study, how could they be in first place. Well, there is the fact that they were familiar with the land.

Sebastien left the common room and strolled around the castle then sneaked to the Greenhouses making sure he wasn't spotte. He had his cap drawn down covering most of his face as he kept his eyes downcast. Let's say he wasn't here to enjoy the beauty of the plants. Although, he was one to do so, he today wasn't here for that reason.

Once in, he shot side glances around making sure the coast was clear then retrieved a jar from his bag. He'd chosen to come here very early and on a day he knew there was no Herbology lesson. He wasn't planning on getting caught and he was almost sure he wasn't. cocky much?

Twisting the jar open, the fifth-year smirked at the ashwinder eggs inside. No the eggs weren't frozen so they weren't to brew any potion. Since he was in a hurry, he simple tipped the jar and let its contents fall to the ground as his arm was stretched as much as possible. He didn't want to catch any fire of course.

Immediately after that, he turned on his heels and headed out smelling the fire coming. He was going to get rid of the jar of course.

The Narrator 11-02-2013 09:01 AM

It didn't take long before the ashwinder eggs started its work feeding on the plants in green house 4 to start a terrible fire. Someone needed to see.

GREENHOUSE 4 WAS ON FIRE!!!!

Zahra Kettleburn had come to terms with the fact that she was not as smart as her siblings. They'd both been Ravenclaws, and they were what Zahra referred to as nerdy points herders.

But it didn't take any type of genius to note that ...... one of the Greenhouses was on fire.

.....cool.

MAYBE THERE WAS A WILD DRAGON FLYING AROUND THE GROUNDS, SETTING STUFF ON FIRE?????

This second year's eyes turned SKYWARD? YAY DRAGON!??!!!?

Forrest had decided to do some studying at last, since he had slacked off since the beginning of the term. Herbology wasn't his ideal starting point, but it wasn't so horrendous either. He even brought his gloves! He was serious about studying this time. He really was--

Fire... FIRE!

He started taking deep breaths as panic OVERTOOK him. He couldn't breathe. And that girl was standing WAY TOO CLOSE WHAT WAS SHE DOING LOOKING AT THE SKY?

He couldn't utter one single word, though. He could only stare at the FIRE and try to breathe.

Zahra had turned a few times, her eyes UPWARD... She'd never seen a REAL WILD DRAGON FLYING AROUND.

Mikey was SO MISSING OUT...

Oh hey! There was a boy! What's his name! UHM..... FOREST! HIM! Zahra jumped up and down on the spot, UP and DOWN. "That GREENHOUSE is on fire! Do you think it was a dragon?!?!??????"

JUMPING JUMPING IN A CIRCLE ZOMG FIRE.

........d-d-dddddRAGON?!

"There's a dragon?!?!?!"

If he fainted there, the dragon would possibly eat him right after fying him. So, he couldn't faint! He tried to breathe some more, put down his bag and said "D-don't you tttthhhink we should call a professor?" But if there really was a dragon too... "And Alexa." She'd cut him alive if he didn't include her in the adventure.

Hehe! ONE COULD ONLY HOPE THAT THERE WAS A DRAGON!!!!!!!!! Zahra kept jumping, waiting, HOPING, COME ON DRAGON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until SIGH...sigh..... Hufflepuffs.....

They were Zahra's least favorite by a lot.

"Why? Cause she's PRETTY?" Was that what ALL boys thought? Why was that just insanely annoying???

"Yeah yeah okay. You start shouting real loud for a Professor and I'll keep an eye out for the dragon."

Solid plan, that.

Alexa? Pretty? Forrest furrowed his brows as he doofily considered it.

"Because she wanted to see one," he said at last, because thinking Alexa as 'pretty' was... stupid. She was Alexa. Forrest had frankly never considered as a girl before.

Besides. Dragon. Freaking out.

...but also curious.

"YOU look for a professor!" he said to the weird girl at last and looked up at the sky hopefully too. Because... surely a dragon was tamed here enough to not hurt students?

Right?!

Whatever. Zahra was officially done thinking, talking about, or anything-ing Lex. Pfff. IF SHE WANTED TO SEE ONE, SHE SHOULD BE DOWN HERE. But you know what? She wasn't. ZAHRA WAS.

Zahra Kettleburn - DRAGON HUNTER.

Merlin, she was cooler than she thought.

"I can't look for a professor AND the dragon at the same time, dummy!"
...Zahra did briefly bring her eyes down to the *FIRE* and again... knew she prooooooooooooobably should........... well at the very least go get JAKE the PREFECT 'cause he was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cool...... and probably wanted to see this too and he also would put out the fire....

Oh wait.

Wait.

THOUGHT!

"WHAT IF IT LAID EGGS IN THERE."

So Zahra went into a burning greenhouse to see. She DID get her wand out and shoot some water here and there. She DID know aguamenti at least.

StarShine 11-07-2013 10:31 PM

...right. She couldn't. But then she'd have to stop looking for the DRAGON clearly, because she'd had enough looking and now it was Forrest's turn. He didn't look at her for a while and watched the sky too.

...lay eggs? EGGS?! Forrest gasped and tore his gaze from sky at last to her.

There was no 'her' to see.

........"You--" She--disappeared--into--FLAMES!

"HELP! HEEEEEELLLLPPPP!"

He was one 'help' away from going mental.

Mad Eye Touz 11-14-2013 10:51 PM

Zahra popped back out, COUGHING HER HEAD OFF, laughing and fanning the smoky air all around her.

"I don't think it laid any eggs!" BUMMER. Total bummer, really. "AND YOU KNOW? I don't think this is a DRAGON fire either."

Which really put a damper on this whole thing. If it wasn't a DRAGON, it was just a greenhouse on fire. And someone probably needed to handle that.

So she decided to help that Hufflepuff out with the yelling.

"PROOOOOOOFESSSSSSSSSORRRRRRRS. YOUR GREENHOUSES ARE ON FIRE. I DIDNT DO IT, AND NEITHER DID A DRAGON, BUT YOU SHOULD COME TAKE CARE OF THIS."

That would probably do it. In the MEANTIME, Zahra got her wand back out and started shooting water at random. JUST DOING HER PART.

StarShine 11-18-2013 10:04 PM

Forrest took another breath to yell when she made it out alive.

She was ALIVE!

He sighed a breath of relief as he nearly squeezed her into a hug. Instead, he opened his eyes widely and said "What you did was reckless and--"

Wait. There weren't any eggs?

He couldn't decide whether to be happy that it didn't lay any eggs or not.

Oh, wait. It wasn't even a dragon fire!

Well, that was a huge disappointment and it plainly showed in Forrest's body: his face and shoulders fell and he just lost all his interest in the situation. Even let the girl continue the shouting. The noise of fire was loud and WOW, she had some vocal cords there!, so if the professor still hadn't shown up, it meant she didn't care about her plants dying.

"Zahra, right?" he addressed the girl, "I think this isn't a fire we can put out, so... time to go." He wasn't keen on getting poisoned with those fumes, thank you very much.

Without waiting to see whether she came, he turned on his heels and started walking away.

Hera 11-20-2013 01:24 PM

There was a commotion! ... outside. She could hear it from her office. And when she heard it, she'd cracked her window open to stick her head out for a peak, and and low and behold... she smelt smoke.

SMOKE.

Smoke was never a good sign.

In that instant, Seren had sprinted out of her office as fast as her legs could carry her, she hadn't even stopped for shoes. Her toes were free and wiggling and didn't mind the feel of the earth beneath them at all. "What is going on here?!" Seren called out frantically, running toward the two students in front of greenhouse.... 4....

o________0

No.

"NOT AGAINNN!" By again, she meant another disaster. What was that now? The third? Fourth? She couldn't even remember... but the flames brought back memories of her burning research shed. That one didn't make it, hopefully the greenhouse would.

Whipping out her wand, Seren swiftly directed it toward the entry and cast aqua eructo. "Well?! Don't just stand there!" This was a matter of life and death!!! THE GERANIUMS! BLOODROOT! CABBAGES! ... sweet Circe. Were Mr Charlton and Miss Kettleburn not going to help in a more constructive manner than just making noise?

Mad Eye Touz 11-20-2013 11:46 PM

BLah blah blah Hufflepuff, nothing he said was heard. THERE WAS A FIRE AND STUFF and he was .... blahblah blah blaaaaaaaah.

BUT OH HEY! HEAD. OF. HOUSE! WOOT.

Zahra waved at her excitedly. SEE HUFFLEPUFF? Her yelling had worked. His hadn't. He just wanted to RUN AWAY. How Puff. Pfff.

"HEY PROFESSOR." oh. Don't just stand here? Okay. Uhm... hehe... Zahra started to run in place. "IT WAS NOT A DRAGON. I WENT IN TO CHECK. NOT. A. DRAGON. And I put some water on it, but it didn't work. But I didn't try very hard either, 'cause I was hoping it was a WILD DRAGON."

Hera 11-22-2013 11:25 AM

She saw the wave, and it left her feeling torn. To wave back? Or not to wave back?.. that was indeed the question. Opting for a quick palm up wave, Seren continued to focus her efforts on the greenhouse - it was her baby after all. Well, not her actual baby... he was safe, with Aron, or her mother... but the plants needed her now, they NEEDED her.

"Dragon?!" she repeated, certainly confused. It took her a moment to process things, Zahra hoped it was a dragon? But it wasn't? So... she hadn't tried very hard to help? "Zahra, that's verryyyy irresponsible of you," Seren stated, concern mingled with exasperation in her tone. This was for two reasons, firstly because Zahra hadn't cared about the fire, secondly had there been a dragon she would have been endangering her life.

... Gryffindors, Merlin help them.

"When did you notice it? When did it start?!" In other words how long had she been oblivious to the fact that this was going on?

WHAT?

It was irresponsible of Zahra 'cause it wasn't a DRAGON?!?! What did Zahra look like? A DRAGON CALLER? DRAGON TAMER? DRAGON GIRL.

...cool. Maybe she was a Dragon Whisperer....

But man, why was the HoH picking on her for THAT? "I tried to put it!" she was still running in place, now with arms flailing and her wand shooting water again. CAUSE SEE, MAN? SHE HAD TRIED. A little. Some. Enough. "I don't wear a watch, but it was like... uhm.... " SHRUG. SHRUG OKAY? ZAHRA DIDN"T KNOW. TOO MANY QUESTIONS. "HEY PROFESSOR. I'LL HELP YOU PUT IT OUT NOW! Let's do this!"

Hera 11-24-2013 11:50 AM

Tried... Zahra tried?

Seren found herself having to remember that the Lion was only a second year, and an easily distracted one at that. Dragons, honestly. The fire was still contained, at least, it didn't seem to be spreading any which way, this was progress.

"Yes! Good! Team work!" she agreed, pleased that she wasn't to do this alone. Pausing in her effort at dousing the flames, Seren used the bubble-head charm to stop from inhaling the smoke. "You do what you're doing from here.. I'll take a closer look," she instructed, hoping the girl wouldn't go charging into the fray.

Oh. COOL A BUBBLE HEAD. ZAHRA WANTED ONE OF THOSE. WHY DIDN'T ZAHRA GET ONE? HEY. HEY. man....

"I already went in there! Not much to see really. Definitely no dragon eggs. This fire is kind of boring, really, as far as fires go. But I got ya, Professor!"

WAND UP! AND SPEW ON! Zahra's little wand was spewing water EVERRRYYWWHEEEREEEEE. Some of it might have went in the right direction. Or mostly towards that Hufflepuff hahahahaha. She didn't want HIM to catch FIRE, see?
