She spoke up and said, "Professor, us Gryffindors could use some help, not because we don't know what we are doing but because there is so little time left and most of our work vanished thanks to some practical joker and I don't think we'll finish in time without some help.

With that said Oichi continued to gather rocks and do her best to make a new fire ring with her fellow Gryffindors but the rocks were heavy making the work slow as molasses and they still needed to add the gathered sticks into the rock circle once it was done. Oichi sure was glad she asked for some help.

It was somewhat frustrating, since some of the sticks kept sliding and messing things up, but Jake was determined to finish the assignment on time. Especially since someone thought it would be fun to vanish their things. He wasn't going to give that person the satisfaction. Nope.

...But honestly, he had no idea what he was doing. He just kept doing it anyway.

Anya didn't bother checking everyone else's progress. Why? Because they were running out of time. From glimpses of people she did manage to catch, it looks like they would make it.

She took a step away to admire the framework of the fire. She took the liberty of adding a few more pieces of wood to it so it looked fuller. It wasn't very good, but worse case scenario, they could get away with this.

"Alright. Finishing the rocks and putting some more filler sticks around the frame should be enough." she said clapping her hands together to get off the dirt and dust.

Not a second time. She wouldn't condone the waste. Lex nodded at the Professor for saying her answer was right. She knew it was right. Some things, you just had to burn as quickly as possible. It prevented certain other things from happening.

When the woman asked who needed help she said nothing. Oichi was doing the talking, there was no need. So what if time ran out? What would it matter to her?

It looked like they were over the rocks part. The part she'd wasted effort on. A new part of the activity.. Hmmm....alright, this she would half help with, but only half because she was still obviously throwing a 14 year old's tantrum. No magic, no retaliation. Whoever it was, they would get away with this and her house would have to do twice as much work. Lex watched Anya and added a stick or two of her own, but no major contribution. Nope. She was over this class. Over everyone but her getting to use magic.

Fina frowned over at one of the older Lioness' saying they needed help cause of some practical joker interfering with their progress. She was about to offer some help, but it seemed some of her housemates were determined to get it finished. That was the spirit! All that yapping and not enough working ... at least they had something, unlike the Eagle campfire....

"Excellent. Well done."

No one else was really DOING anything or making any effort to start a campfire, so he started to arrange the sticks in a teepee sort of fashion, like he'd seen in muggle camping brochures at the store and such. "Can someone try and light the fire with the flint or something? I don't think I'm strong enough to get a good spark," he admitted. Normally he wouldn't admit that he was weak like that, but look at him. He wasn't any Superman or anything. He had yet to hit puberty and wasn't about to waste time acting like he had the ability to light a fire by himself.

Besides her friends were doing fine, not that she was focused on them as the other houses' groups caught her attention. What was happening? Weird. The snake paid attention to the Professor while turning to her house mates at the same time.

"Yes, rocks," She said to no one in particular before stalking off and bringing rocks. She thought that they couldn't probably use magic so she carried them which meant a break was needed pretty soon.

Cassia crouched and started forming a circle with the rocks while the firstie arranged the sticks. she needed to learn his name. Light it? The fifth year eyed the campfire. Should they light it? Well, if yes then she wasn't going to risk it and do it herself. She'd rather not be the reason Slytherin lost, thank you. Only because she never lit one. She glanced expectantly at the others, anyone with experience?

It's Muggle Studies..." Kat shrugged. The class wouldn't be named that way if they weren't supposed to learn how the Muggles lived by, right? Plus Hadley wouldn't be so amused by the use of magic in her class, unless it was necessary. Magic actually wasn't too necessary because yeah, making fire just apparently didn't need it. Please. It would've made everything easier.

Kat decided to help the others fix the teepee pyramid thing with the twigs and branches. She knelt down and did the last bit of it, plus the finishing touches... then she looked at the perimeter stone thing. Everything was actually in place but final touches were necessary. Kat wanted everything sort of perfect, you know? How perfectionist of her. Lighting up the fire though. "I'll do that, but I don't think we're allowed to light it up yet." Or were they? Kat looked at Professor Hadley for the final instructions.

"Oh and you did great, helping with the campfire." Kat was grateful. Her Slytherins were awesome and she couldn't imagine how much she'd miss them after she graduates.

Had this of been a subject worth taking they would have sped right through it with perfect results. All things considering she thought that they did pretty well.

Now they just needed the professor to look over what they had done and get her approval to light it right? She was pretty sure that she heard something about not lighting it until she said so. Control freak much? Whatever, she was ready to be done. She wanted to know who was going to win already. "Okay snakes, let's get the professor over here so we can finally light it." She waved her hand in the air. "Professor we are ready over here." Hannah really hoped that it was good enough for them to proceed. It was getting down to the wire.

Sophie didn't understand why everybody always had to act so happy-go-lucky. Couldn't they just collect their hard-earned points, eat, and leave? That sounded like a good idea to her.

Then some older Slytherin announced they were done with their fire. Oh...they were? Sophie looked over at it. Looked good to her. She sort of faced the professor and GRINNED. "Look at us! We're awesome!" that grin seemed to say.

Hearing the Snakes working and finishing up, Fina frowned when a first year asked for a flint or something to light it. Did she not say she had to approve the layout of the campfire before lighting it? Ah well, at least the Head Girl and Hannah had been paying attention; thank Wenlock for the older housemates.

"Yes, very good! Lovely job and excellent cooperation!" Fina smiled at those in green robes. "Go ahead and light it. Carefully."

Mouse said what? The boy's ears turned a bit pink. "Um, Thanks Mouse. And It looks great guys, I think we're done. Y'all are good at this campfire stuff." Yep. They should... use that for stuff.

"Professor Lady, Can I go a head and light it?" he pulled the fire starter out. She said the had ten minutes to get it started, but... she didn't say if they could light it yet. But, he'd gladly do that part of the fire making. since he had the tools.

Ella liked that everyone was doing their best to help but she sort of felt in the way so the blonde had taken a step back, watching Kaiden take the leadership position. He was doing a really good job too, making sure things were set up like they needed to be. Ella was for finishing quickly if it meant s'mores before leaving class.

The sixth year heard Kaiden call over to Hadley so they could get the okay to light and she smiled a little, impressed by the fire set-up. "Nice job, you guys." Really, it looked brilliant.

And then just as she got finished telling the Snakettes to go ahead and light it, she heard Kaiden calling her over. Professor Lady? Really now? After five years he didn't know her name? Glancing it over, she nudged one of the stones slightly with her toe, and nodded approvingly. "Yes, yes. It looks alright .... and I suppose you can light it, just be careful."

Anyway, time wasn't slowing down and they'd fallen behind. And she still had one grocery bag left on her desk, which the contents remained a mystery. "Alright, so one of the things mentioned for what muggles do with campfires was roasting marshmallows and s'mores. What do we need in order to make s'mores?" Yes, this meant she MIGHT just have been breaking one of her classroom rules about food, but it was all in the name of education, right?!

Star-Lord 11-19-2013 01:43 AM

Wait. Jun had the answer to this one. But it was quickly slipping his mind. The boy had never made s'mores before. Nor had he built a campfire until now. His dad usually did that stuff. He wasn't allowed to help because Jun would only start playing with the wood and fire. So his mum made him sit on a log and wait.

"Professor, if I remember correctly, I think you need marshmallows, chocolate, and-" Ugh. What was that last thing? Cookies? He was just gonna say it. "Cookies?" But what kind? He has knowledge from movies he's watched. No true experience.

TakemetotheBurrow 11-19-2013 01:49 AM

Forget the fires, they were talking about s'mores. S'MORES! Grinning was happening. Lots of grinning. Ella LOVED s'mores. And she was hungry so she was all for talk of this especially if it meant that they'd get to make them. Mmmm, s'mores.

"You need graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows, Professor." Mhm, you totally did!

Expecto-Penguin 11-19-2013 01:50 AM

O___O

Wait a minute....were they going to make smores? Kace was excited and he hoped they were because then why would the professor mention it? It was only logical. Plus he loved these little guys. He heard the ravenclaw talk first and he said something about cookies. He wasn't too far off. I mean graham cracker were sort of cookies right? Eh he wasn't the expert.

Kace smiled and raised his hand and would give an answer, "Professor you need chocolate. But i think any kind can be fine." He loved using chocolate bars the best but he knew some people could use chocolate chips.

DaniDiNardo 11-19-2013 02:00 AM

Food?

They were talking food?

Alexa perked up, her attention fully on the Professor now. This wasn't just any food, it was s'mores meaning SUGAR. Of course she was paying attention now, wasn't that obvious? She wasn't in the mood to answer anymore questions, especially not when they were the obvious kind that everyone else was already answering to.

Her eyes went to the Professor's desk again. There was sugar somewhere up there and she was gonna get it for her hard work and patience. Lex could'a used magic too, you know, but she didn't which was super commendable and sugar worthy. Surely the Professor saw this. She wouldn't need to tell her.

Pay no attention to the minor bouncing. The anticipation was building up. If they actually got s'mores at the end of this class she'd all but die and go to candyland.

LilFox06 11-19-2013 02:28 AM

alsjkghaerkljghekgjh! S'mores. Anya definitely heard the word smores. Where they having some? She wanted some. There was a campfire and everything. Yes? Yes. Smores please.

...
...
...

Wait. Was there a question? Anya didn't notice if there was. She was too busy thinking about smores.

AH excellent! Some people knew about the DELICIOUS muggle treat that was a s'more. One of the few treats where she enjoyed chocolate. "Yes. Marshmallows, chocolate and a special kind of cookie..."

Leave it to a Gryffindor - or two - to just sit there staring hungrily into space as they awaited for when the s'mores would be brought out.

Fina did smile, however, though when Sophie asked more what. "S'mores is the name of a muggle treat popular at campfires, which consists of marshmallows and chocolate, melted between two graham crackers." Fina held up each ingredient from the brown paper bag, as she confirmed the ingredients in a s'more, setting each down on her teacher's desk. Which she elaborated on for West's benefit too, who seemed to have a blank stare on his face. "It appears to be a contraction of the phrase 'some more', which is somewhat ironic, since it's quite the addictive treat and always leads to one wanting more - or another one."

Seeing how a certain Gryffindor was practically salivating all over the floor in anticipation.... Hadley sighed before speaking what she never expected she would everrrrr do. "Alright, Miss Cambridge. Before you drool all over my classroom floor, care to demonstrate to the class on how to make a proper s'more?" Because she knew the fourth year knew how.

DaniDiNardo 11-19-2013 03:36 AM

"OKAY!!"

No one had to tell her twice. Alexa was off the ground and standing by the Professor in record time. Now that she knew where the sugar was, it would be different. She glanced briefly at the class that was probably expecting that demonstration any minute now. Lex needed to make this look real legit. Ahem.

"Right...so....you have to remember that you always want the perfect s'more, which means you have to do a bit of...er testing, just to be sure. First, the marshmallows." She took one from it's pack and held it out for them all to see. "You have to make sure it's the right texture." And she plopped it into her mouth. MmmmMMmmm. "Of course, you can't just taste one, no, that'll never work and your results will be inconclusive." She fished another three from the bag and popped them in her mouth. Some good marshmallows right here.

"Next is the chocolate. You'll wanna make sure it's the good kind as well. Typically you'll have to eat a whole bar, just to be on the safe side." Lex ripped open one of the chocolate bars and bit into it. "This tastes amazing, but like I said, you'll have to keep eating to be sure." And another bite. "But onto the other important stuff. You place a graham cracker at the bottom like so, add the cube of chocolate then add the roasted marshmallow which will melt the chocolate, and add the top cracker. It's that simple. I'd have roasted the marshmallow to help with the demonstration," She eyed the s'more and its lack of goo-y-ness. "but there's no fire. You all get the idea though." And she got a bar of chocolate. Heh.

Lissy Longbottom 11-19-2013 03:46 AM

S'MORES?

Now THAT was Caleb's kind of construction project. Constructing a s'more!

Caleb grinned and watch the Gryffindor girl - what was her name? He should learn it. She was like EVERYWHERE - and felt his stomach rumbling as he watched her prepare the chocolate-y treat. OMG. JUST GIVE HIM ONE PLEASEEEE.

FearlessLeader19 11-19-2013 01:26 PM

catching up a bit

Okay, so they could go ahead and light their fire. Adi eyed grumpy Kaiden. Would he be the one doing the lighting? Oh! Another question! Of course he knew the answer but he was only concerned about..."Chocolate, Professor!'' he said with his hand excitedly in the air. Yummy, yummy chocolate.

.................

Adi watched as candy girl Alexa demonstrated how to make the treat. He knew how to do it and he wanted to make one of himself. Could he? Pleaaaase?

Kimothy 11-19-2013 01:41 PM

Kat knew what a S'more was. They had them in the Pajama Jammy Jam event so it was not unfamiliar. Except that, she never really tried them and didn't really know what it was made of. She wasn't the one who suggested it anyway. Muggle treats, really. But she didn't mind because, judging from the ingredients, it already seemed good.

Also, Kat wanted her pseudo!sis to give her a S'more. Like right now. She sent Alexa looks.

MudInMyBlood 11-19-2013 02:28 PM

Slight catch up.

They could light their fire now. She hoped that Slytherin house still had a chance of winning. Instead of waiting for anybody else. Hannah eyeballed everybody else to see how the used this non magical flint thingy. Okay, it seemed simple enough and if Hufflepuff could figure it out, she knew that she could. Very carefully she lit the fire. She had done it. She still thought doing the things the muggle way was pointless and she had no intention of ever doing things like that.

Then s'mores were mentioned and she was glad to see that she once again wasn't the only one who didn't know what that was. It seemed as if the house of Slytherin was the only one who didn't know much about muggles. They sounded good enough when she heard the others explain them. Then she watched Alexa practically devour all of the ingredients. Was it really a good idea to get her to demonstrate anything that could be eaten? Hannah really didn't think so.

The moment Alexa was out of her chair and by her side, Josephina was REGRETTING already asking the fourth year to demonstrate. Testing? OH FOR THE LOVE OF WENLOCK!!! She didn't just taste ONE marshmallow, but FOUR?!?

And then she proceeded to consume the entire bar of chocolate.

Breathe, Fina, breathe. She reminded herself, though her eyes were practically bulging from her head.

"Um yes... yes..." she said quietly, willing herself to NOT pass out from how much sugar the Lioness just consumed in mere minutes. "So now that they've been tested for quality, I think we can safely say they're good to make a s'more. Only thing I'd like to add is that in order to get it to melt to the perfect gooeyness, placing your graham cracker concoction near enough to the fire so that you can feel the warmth, but not too close that you'll get injured, should melt it just enough... remember you don't want it to melt too much or you'll end up with a mess."

Watching as Hannah took initiative to light the fire, she nodded approvingly.

"Very well then. So for the correct concoction you'll need ONE whole graham cracker, broken in half, as one will act as your top and the other the bottom. One marshmallow, and half a bar of chocolate."

Digging through her notes again, Fina dug out a picture of a completed s'more. "Alright, soooo when completed, it should look like this." She stuck that picture to the board so they could see.

ooc: yes, this is part of classroom participation for making a s'more. Assume both Badgers and Snakes have fires going, so feel free to use one of their fires to melt your s'mores. Go ahead and have your characters make one. Melt it too much or not enough, whichever. Have your characters come up and take the three ingredients. Yes, we have plates and napkins up here too. Try to not light yourselves on fire either, or we won't be happy and you might not get food again in future classes haha ;P We'll close this on Thursday afternoon , so have fun <3

MudInMyBlood 11-19-2013 08:16 PM

So there were only two fires that were started and they were none other than Slytherin and Hufflepuff. Hannah could not stand it if they lost to Hufflepuff again. At this point the damage was done and there wasn't anything that she could do to help them out anymore... unless the whole s'more eating thing counted for something. Maybe she could eat as many as she could? She seriously doubted it. She walked to the front of the room to grab the s'mores supplies after she watched a disgusting Alexa stuff her face full of sugar. Hannah grabbed her a chocolate bar, a marshmallow and two graham crackers.

She looked at the picture that the professor put up and it was pretty much just making a sandwich but with sweet treats. She noted how not to do it, and went ahead and placed the chocolate bar on top of the graham cracker and the marshmallow on top of that. Once that was assembled all nice and neatly, Hannah placed the second graham cracker on top. There... it looked nice. She carefully got close to her fire and started to melt the marshmallow... at least she hoped.

TakemetotheBurrow 11-19-2013 10:05 PM

Alexa was enthusiastic AND had gotten an entire bar of chocolate to herself. If Ella was enthusiastic could SHE have an entire bar? Hm, hm, hmmmm? Ella liked chocolate too, y'know. SHE DID.

Anyways, it was time to make s'mores. S'MORES! The badger was beaming as she made her way up to collect the ingredients, a plate, and a napkin. After she'd placed a whole graham cracker, a marshmallow, and a piece of chocolate on her plate, she headed back over to the badger's fire and set to work. She was going to roast this mallow to perfection.

FearlessLeader19 11-19-2013 10:19 PM

Hannah, too ^__^

Adi grinned at Hannah as he collected his ingredients. "Hiiii, Hannah,'' he said to her. "What's up?'' He decided for fun he would follow the Slytherin and imitate her. Just for fun. She should know by now that he liked following her around.

So Adi did just that, copying exactly as the girl did. Chocolate on one half of the graham cracker, then the roasted marshmallow which he had toasted (using the Slytherin fire) on top of that followed finally by the second half of the cracker.

"Doesn't this look yummy?'' he asked Hannah.

Noting the first one up to the table to take the treats, Fina frowned when she completely forgot something crucial to keeping clean. BUT at least she was toasting it alright.....

"hem. You're doing fine, but ... napkin?" She held one out to the sixth year, as she eyed the two others from her peripheral vision to make sure they were doing alright.

FINALLY! Caleb felt like it had been agessss since she mentioned s'mores and he was ready to get his OWN made. Quickly grabbing a marshmallow, he stuck one on his stick and headed over to the fire that he'd basically single handedly constructed since no one seemed to want to help. Smiling and whistling happily, he waited until it was nice and brown - yes, he didn't set it on fire! - and tend made a s'more out of the chocolate and graham crackers.

He took a bite and grinned. GAH IT WAS SOOOO GOOOOOOOOD. The house elves needed to start making these on a daily basis.

He never thought to use chocolate syrup on his S'more. Maybe he will now. But not in class. Maybe he will do it on his camping trip he takes every summer....

Now it was time to make the s'mores. He was quite excited for this part. He even saw Alexa telling the class how to make one. He chuckled and like learning how she explained it to an outsider. He already knew how to make his already. He could help people if they had an issue.

He went over to the professor supplies and got a marshmallow. He stuck it on his wooden stick and then put it over the fire. He didn't wanna burn it but he wanted it to be golden brown. He was smiling and having fun. This was the best part of the lesson. He was turning his marshmallow making sure it was getting cooked on all sides. He even took it out of the fire to make sure it was soft and gooey. He still had time.

Lex snickered at the Professor's shocked expression before biting into her bar of chocolate again. Had to admit you saw that coming Professor. Thoughts of grabbing the entire bag and running had crossed her mind but she didn't on account of she wanted to stay through the s'mores making and have some of those. There was fire in the classroom and none out in the corridor. See the appeal? She could.

And now they were on to the actual s'more making. Lex got up, grabbing a plate and put a COUPLE of the ingredients on it...she may have taken another two bars of chocolate and a good bit more marshmallows along with some graham crackers. There was no limit set. No one judge her.

Lex made her way over to the Slytherin fire (for Cassia reasons obvs) and got straight to melting the s'more, while nibbling on her first bar of chocolate. She didn't know which source of sugar was making her happier but all this sweet stuff, man, this was the BEST day ever.

S'more done! She didn't care how melted. Bring on the sugar!!!

Did Alice know what a s'more was? ... not really. But sugar. Food. Yes. Good. Okay. Did they ONLY get one?

She made her way up to collect the ingredients, a plate, and a napkin. After selecting a whole graham cracker, a marshmallow, and a piece of chocolate, she headed over to the Slytherin fire. Hi snakes. They could share, right? 'Course they could.

Why wasn't her own fire running? Alice hadn't actually DONE anything this whole lesson long, so she was a bit out of it.

Muggle things were so hard to follow. That was it, clearly.

Where in the world did they eat these things even? West got that it was Muggle because Muggle Studies, but he'd never seen crackers like that before. They looked more like biscuits than crackers. And it seemed like a lot of effort to go to when the chocolate and marshmallow and biscuit!crackers would do perfectly fine on their own.

He got the ingredients and a napkin and went to work trying to get his head around making one of these things without making a mess.

Also, hi girlfriend. He didn't know why she was at the Slytherin fire but didn't care. She was more interesting than strangely assembled food.

So time to make that strange treat called 'some more'. Abbreviated, apparently, to be s'mores. Whatever. It sounded like it tasted really good, so that was good enough for Sophie. She collected the three ingredients, along with a plate and a napkin, and approached the Slytherin fire.

No way was she toasting away on the Badger fire.

Sophie roasted her marshmallow until it was half black and half white, and then she attempted to build a s'more. It was just too sticky, though. Only half the marshmallow ended up on the treat, while the other half was stuck to her hands. She built the s'more anyway, and when she was done, she lifted the treat to her lips and bit into it.

HOLY MERLIN. Muggle treats were...good, weren't they?
