Although, he didn't get a chance to REALLY relish in the moment 'cause she was out and about asking the next question. Hand raise, "You become a conductor, ma'am." He knew everyone had already SAID that, but he tacked on, "Electricity, by nature, wants to go into the floor, yeah? So it travels through you as the fasted route to get there." He missed the shop and the grease. |
"But if you touch that metal.... you'll also be doing something else, which will cause the light to go out or flicker or dim... any idea why this is? What happened to the flow of electricity?" Hmmm. Interesting question. That had not occurred to him. But Adi raised his hand to volunteer an answer. "I think it is because electricity enters the body,'' he said not entirely sure. But maybe it was that reason after all? Shrugging a bit, he turned his attention to his and Kace's circuit. |
catch up (post #2 and last) Nerida attached the other end of the wire to the right side of the light bulb and hooked it on there. Good now number four was done. Now it was time to get another wire. Reaching into her stuff she pulled out another one and attached it to the negative side of the dry cell. All she had to do was look for the little negative sign and she was good. She grabbed her tape and ripped a piece of it. Electrical tape then secured the wire so it wouldn't move. Now the sixth step, it should be easy right she attached a bunch of other stuff. She attached the other end of wire to the left side of the switch. Getting the last piece of wire and wound it to the right side of the switch. Finally it was the last step!! Lastly she attached it to the left side of the light bulb. It was a good thing too, it was time to test it. Testing her circuit she smiled when she realized it worked. Ooo look a question! "Won't electricity enter the body because we are like a circuit.... Was that right? |
Kace saw Adi looking at their circuit. The professor did ask a good question and he had to think about it for a bit. He contemplated thoughts. He had one though. Maybe the human body had nerves so they could stop the electricity and you become the current. Yeah that could be it..... Kace raised his hand and said, "Professor i know if you touch the metal it stops because you as the human become the circuit. I think your body has nerves that send electric signals so the electricity harness onto that." He think he got it alright but he wasn't TOO sure. |

Ah good... some of the students had the basic concept of electricity. It was pretty advanced stuff, but a basic understanding was okay. "Yes, yes. When you touch your finger to the metal, you interrupt the circuit, so the electricity flows through the body instead and to the floor." Hadley affirmed of their guesses. "You become a resistor the flow. So as you can tell, if you break the circuit in anyway or if a part of the circuit is missing, electricity will not flow and the light will not go on. This is true whether it's a simple circuit such as this one, or a more complex one like in a muggle home. Electricity only flows provided all parts are present and functioning well." Hadley glanced at her wristwatch. "Anyway, it seems we're out of time! I hope you all found today's lesson informative and homework will be posted on the noticeboard. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to come see me - and have a great rest of your day!" |
Resistors...no electricity flow...simple and complex circuits? Lex was done. Yup. Completely done. The easy subject she'd come to love now involved as much brain work as anything else and she didn't quite know how she felt about this. Oh wait, no, scratch that, she knew exactly how she felt about it, in fact, she didn't like it one bit. Once they were dismissed she packed her things into her bag. Did she have any questions? Just a few but they could be asked later after she stopped by the Professor's office. Yes. Yes, we're stopping by. This exploitation of the subject could not continue. It mustn't. Just no. For now. "Have a good day Professor." Noooo, she wasn't going to thank her for the lesson. When lights stopped working at home her father fixed them without knowing all this. Once she was of age she'd fix her own lights without this and if by some chance there was a need for her to fix one before then, it'd probably have a high voltage anyway and she wouldn't be allowed. |
They were done already? Adi enjoyed this lesson though he learnt electricity was not his thing. But he did like building the circuit. "Yo, Kace buddy!'' he said to his friend as he crammed his stuff back into his bag. "Thanks for partnering! This was fun, wasn't it?'' "Fun lesson, Professor! Thanks! Until next time.'' Adi grinned and made his way out of the room. |
They were done already? Wow that was a cool lesson... And Nerida had found a new appreciation for those muggle electricians their work was actually tougher than she had first thought. And building those circuits things, one move out of place just messed it all up!! So yeap!! "Great lesson Professor, happy to see your enjoying muggle studies, though I do wish we still had as an arithmancy professor I guess I could get used to having you as a Muggle Studies Professor.." maybe. |
Sarah listened and made a mental note that on her next visit to the library she would see about a book on electrictity. She remembered her school once had a science fair and one student had made a traffic light, and another a a quiz game with a buzzer. The electricity related one she she liked best was a game that one had to go on a wire course using a looped metal things and make sure not to touch the sides... very complicated to make, so Sara thought of it how it worked. What, class was over. "thank you for the lesson professor" Sarah said. Of course she was not saying good bye to the professor just yet, as she was having an after class meeting. She hoped she was not in trouble |
Minerva continued to click her light on and off watching it. This was actually fun. She was probably enjoying herself more than she should have or would have thought with electricity, but oh well it was fun. Looking up when Hadley began talking again she took a few more notes before gathering her things. It seemed like a nice lesson for the professors first as the muggle studies teacher. Min still felt she needed to rescue her old class, but she liked her here in a subject that Minerva understood more. Since Arithmancy just confused her most days anyway it gave her an easier out when Hadley stopped teaching it. "Great lesson Professor. Have a great day." She gave a smile before heading out of class. |

Wow...they were done already?? That was fast! He didn't even keep track of the time. He was just finished building the circuit when the Professor called the time. He enjoyed this class and he did learn about electricity. Maybe it could be his thing...maybe not? "Yo Adi!" he replied to him as he was cramming all his books and quills into his bag. "Oh no problem. It was fun, i gotta say i didn't even keep track of time like i do in other classes." he grinned sheepishly. "See you back in the common room?" he asked him. Then he swung his bag over his shoulder and said to the Professor, "Thanks for the lesson Professor!" he said while leaving the classroom. |
