Hufflepuff Study Tables Banner created by Lockhartian A large honey-colored wood table is set up to the far side of the room, the perfect place to study or even just leisure read. And should you find yourself lacking inspiration, portraits of several outstanding brains of former Hufflepuffs through the centuries line the walls in this area. These fine minds also bear the hallmark of those traditional of Hufflepuffs, including qualities of patience, a strong work ethic, and constancy. Some of these portraits include Nymphadora Tonks, Cedric Diggory, and even Zacharias Smith, flying on his broomstick. And of more modern Hufflepuffs, there are portraits of former prefects such as Savannah Mae, Nolan Reynolds, Leo Moretti, and then some outstanding quidditch plays of Evan Cassels scoring another goal on Slytherins and then Kita Lewis, snatching the snitch right from Ellie Stone's nose just several terms ago now! Hufflepuffs may have that myth floating around that we're not clever, but that is a MYTH. Hufflepuffs are definitely though, the least boastful, the most modest, but have also produced just as many brilliant witches and wizards as any other house. In addition to those named above, there's also Grogan Stump, one of the most popular Ministers for Magic of all time, as were the successful Ministers Artemesia Lufkin and Dugald McPhail. Then there’s the world authority on magical creatures, Newt Scamander; Bridget Wenlock, the famous thirteenth-century Arithmancer who first discovered the magical properties of the number seven, and Hengist of Woodcroft, who founded the Hogsmeade village. The shelves lining the study area are stocked with reading material for all classes, and limited supplies of spare parchments, ink and quills. It seems as though some of the stock hasn't been replaced over the summer holidays, so be sure to bring your own. But enough about former outstanding Hufflepuffs; I do hope some of you are willing to work hard and use these study tables wisely. After all, we've got an elusive house cup defend and after so many years, I'd hate to see it given up so easily ..... |
Charms HW Post 1 Kace managed to find time to do his charms homework. He remembered he did enjoy the lesson and wanted to practice to get better. He asked Minnie if she would like to practice with him and she agreed. That's good for Kace because he knows Minnie would be honest with him if he did something wrong. Plus it was good quality time to spend with his housemate. He got down to the study tables and wondered what he could use for an object to slow down. He thought a book would be a good object. Yup and if it hit him the face it wouldn't hurt so bad. He waited for Minnie to come down but he practiced by himself for a few minutes. "Arresto Momentum..." he mumbled under his breath. Then he threw the book up in the air and then called out "Arresto Momentum!" but then it fell to the ground. Grrr...he needed more practice.... |

Minerva made her way down to the study tables. She had told Kace she would meet him to work on Charms homework. Setting down her bag she opened it and found her owl Alec had gotten her this summer. He just seemed like the perfect size to use for this spell. As well as some chocolate frogs. No one will be upset if chocolate hit their face, right? Turning she smiled at Kace, "Hey bud you ready to practice. I brought a few things for us to use. I hope that's alright." She held up the items. Pulling out her wand she decided she should at least practice the words first. What were they again. She turned pulling out her parchment with her notes. Arresto Momentum.. Arresto Momentum she said to herself. Smiling, "Tell me if you think I'm pronouncing correctly; Arresto Momentum." That sounded correct to her so hopefully he would think so as well. Now she pulled the Owl up first. "I figured the stuffed animal wouldn't hurt if we would miss see he is super soft." Min held him out for Kace to feel. "So do you want to go first or shall I?" She didn't mind doing either. |

Then she asked if he was ready. He smiled and nodded, "I was born ready and that is fine! the more stuff the better. I mean i was practicing on that book over there...it was unsuccessful. Maybe i need lighter objects." he shrugged admitting his defeat. Then she asked if she was saying it correctly. He nodded and asked the same thing in return. "Am i saying correctly?" he cleared his throat and said..."Arresto Momentum!" Hopefully he said it right. Now down to business. "Umm i will go first." he volunteered. He rather get it over with. "Are you sure you wanna use your little fella?" he asked her just to be safe. "I mean i don't wanna hurt the little guy." he grinned at her. "But if you insist." he joked and got out his wand. He waited for Minnie to throw it and then he said the words..."Arresto Momentum!!" and then he hoped it work. "Did i do it right?" he asked Minnie. |

She stood back a bit, "Alright are you ready?" She smiled at the second year before lifting the Owl and tossing it at him. She hoping she tossed it hard enough that it would even get to him. She hadn't played much baseball in her life time. Watching it go through the air she watched Kace point and say the spell. Seeing the Owl still going quickly she clapped as it slowed. "Great Job! See I knew you could do it!" Kace was doing great, but she didn't have any doubt. |

Then she asked if he was ready. He nodded and gave her a confident smile. He did the spell and he was glad it stopped and he finally did it! YAYAYAYAY!!!! He was relieved to say the least. "Thanks Minnie!" he gave her a earnest smile. "You ready to try now?" he asked his fellow Prefect. Then he had the owl ready to be thrown at her. |

Nodding she smiled, "I'm ready.. Send it towards me." If she didn't do it well at least it was just a stuffed animal so it wouldn't hurt, not that she wasn't use to pain with bludgers and all. Seeing the owl in the air Minerva lifted her wand. "Arresto Momentum" They Owl that was going quickly started to slow. Min smiled and watched it come closer in slow motion. Taking it from the air she smiled towards Kace. "Again with the Owl or would you like to try chocolate frogs?" |

When Minnie said she was ready, he sent the owl towards her and he held his breath and she did it! WOOT! Kace beamed at her and saw the owl starting to quickly slow down. "COOL we both did it! Nice work Minnie!" he said encouraging his partner. "I think we should try chocolate frogs, why not have a little challenge." he said responding to her question. "I think it would be fun!" He went over to get the chocolate frogs and was ready to practice. "Alright hit me." he said to Minnie and then he saw her throw it and he said..."Arresto Momentum!" and then he saw the little guy and flicked his wand and it STOPPED. |

Picking up a chocolate frog she turned, "In the box or out?" Well they couldn't very well catch them in their mouths if the spell didn't work in the box, so out it was. She unwrapped the frog and smiled, "Don't worry my hands are clean." She chuckled a bit before lifting her hand. READY? She tossed the Chocolate Frog towards him and clapped as he made it stop. "Great Job Kace" Now it was her turn she lifted her wand. "Ready when you are..." |
Charms Hw Post 5 Quote:
He bowed for her and was glad her hands were clean. "Why thank you Minnie!" he said when she congratulated him. "I admit it was quite hard to see when it was coming at me." he shrugged but he did it! Alright so now Minnie was ready, he got his chocolate frog ready for her. He held out his hand, "I promise my hands are clean too!" Then he unwrapped the little critter and threw it at her and wondered what she would do...."Ready?? One...TWO...THREE!!" he said throwing it! |

Minerva smiled as he seemed excited to have stopped the chocolate. She was thrilled he was doing so well. "Oh.. well I guess I can see why it would be harder." Now it was her turn so she would really be finding out. Pulling her wand she got ready. As he counted she focused. Seeing him unwrap the frog she laughed at his hands clean comment. "Well good I'm glad." She saw the Chocolate frog coming towards her and she thought about not even trying to stop it and just letting it maybe it the wall. She hadn't seem them jump in awhile, but that was such a waste of chocolate. NO she needed to stop it or just slow it. Maybe she would just slow it again. That's when a plan hit her and she lifted her wand. "Arresto Momentum" She watched as the frog that was sailing through the air slowed. Smiling, "Look Kace eating chocolate frogs in slow motion." She started walking in slow motion and opening her mouth making slow motion sounds as she walked closer to the chocolate frog that was moving slow. Eating it in slow motion as well. She laughed, "Sorry I just couldn't help it." Okay.. okay.. now she would get serious again. "Think fast Kace" She picked up the owl stuffed animal and tossed it at him. |

Minnie surprised him. She threw the owl but his quidditch skills gave him the advantage. He held out his wand and said, "Arresto Momentum!" and the owl stopped. He even went up to it and petted it's head. "You know he is a cute little fella." He smirked and bowed his head. "Good thinking on that one but...you gotta be quicker than that." he winked. "You are talking to a fellow chaser here." |
Charms post 6 Quote:
"I'll remember that next time." She winked at the younger badger. This was fun all practicing should be this fun. "Alright try tossing me another frog I want to stop it this time." She pulled her wand to be ready and decided to take a few steps back. "Let's see if a further distance changes anything." Maybe it would change the timing of the spell compared to when they were closer. She wasn't really sure, but why not try. Getting in a ready type position she smiled, "Alright.. give me your best shot!" |
Charms HW Post 7 Quote:
Alright so Minnie wanted another chocolate frog thrown at her. She was gonna get it. "Oh you want further distance? Well that can be arranged." he smirked and unwrapped the chocolate frog. He nodded when she said give it his best shot. "Go long Minnie!" he said and he threw it as hard as he could. He used his chaser arm throwing skills and he hoped Minnie could stop the little critter. |

Watching Kace unwrap the frog Minerva got ready. She chuckled as he said to go long feeling like she was at a football game or something and knowing he would know that reference too. "Are you a quarterback now?" She laughed as she watched the chocolate come towards her. "Arresto Momentum" She watched as the chocolate stopped in midair. "Well that wasn't to hard." She chuckled and went over to the chocolate. "Finite" Grabbing onto the chocolate she flipped it in her mouth. Walking to the table she picked up a chocolate and turned, "Your turn." and she tossed it towards him. |

Then it was his turn. He saw the chocolate frog being thrown at him and he knew what to do. He had this in the bag! He raised his wand and said, "Arresto Momentum!" and then the chocolate frog slowed down. He smirked and then opened his mouth in slow motion and ate it. It was quite chewy. "Mmmmm...that was tasty!" he said showing chocolate all over his mouth to Minnie. |

She laughed seeing the chocolate all over him. "Nice one Kace, but you might want to clean your face a bit." Still laughing she looked around the room. "I want to try something. " Min went to her bag and pulled out her Arithmancy book. "Stupid class this term the thing isn't going to be much use for numbers it seems." She still wasn't happy about the class. Tossing it up in the air, she watched as it started to fall. "Arresto Momentum!" She watched the book stop before hitting her in the face. "Well I'm glad that worked. I didn't want to throw it at you, but wanted to try something heavier." Of course she was glad she didn't get hit in the face either. |
Charms numbah 6 A challenge was a challenge and Sophie was UP FOR IT! Yeah! Bigger and heavier objects. YEP. Bring. It. OOOOON. CHAARMS! Woop! The sixteen year old walked into the study area of the Hufflepuff Common Room and put her bag down. She already had in mind what she was going to do... this area had proven to be a nice one to practise spells, so there she was again! Besides... tables! And chairs! And blimey, tables AND chairs at the same time! WHOA! Though that could get messy... especially since there were some other people there and Sophie most definitely didn't want to hurt anyone. So she'd stick to just tables for now. Pulling out her wand, she practised the whipping motion again before concentrating hard on the incantation. And again... until she felt ready to combine both. Nonverbals. She could do it! Staring hard at the empty study table, Sophie held up her wand and did a firm, whipping movement towards the largest object she had worked with so far. The beautiful purple rope appeared again and Sophie had to use a LOT of strength to pull the table towards herself. It wasn't the spell per se, but GAH, pulling a table was HARD WORK. But she did manage to do it, even if just for a few inches. It had worked! WOOOO! The girl smiled and lifted the spell, and with another wand movement, the study table was pushed back to her original place as Sophie grabbed her back and skipped away. |
