The beginning of term, new faces, old faces, new adventures... yeah Bentley was excited. As she stood in the entrance to Greenhouse Four, she rocked back and forth on the ball of her feet, her hands clasped in front of her.
"Good morning everyone! The lesson will begin shortly, in the meantime please take a seat." She motioned her hands to a few rows of benches that have been placed near the entrance to the greenhouse for the purpose of that lesson.
OOC: The lesson has officially started, DO NOT announce your character arriving from this point onward, as they will be late, and late = trouble. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. IC rule breaking will result in IC punishment, OOC rule breaking will result in OOC punishment. Please behave appropriately and most importantly... have fun. Finally able to look at the professor properly without feeling awkward, Theodore listened to her introduction. She seemed nice, but that was too much of a quick judgement.
OH. So herbology WAS about plants.... He had an inkling from the, errrr, plants everywhere. But he wasn't 100% sure.
Raising his hand sheepishly, Theo said, "I brush my teeth. Twice a day. Dentist's orders." Sometimes three. Sometimes FLOSSING, TOO. Yeah... Too many sweets did that to a person. He counted that as self care.

Having closed the greenhouse door and moved to stand in front of the group of students, she paused before continuing. "What are some of the things you do on a daily basis, to take care of yourself?"
Evelyn listened to Bentley introduce herself and continue talking about how to care for plants..okay. Then..she couldn't help but slightly raise her eyebrows at the Professors question. Seriously? What's that got to do anything? Sigh.
The Hufflepuff straightened up on her seat and raised her hand. "Take a shower." Yep.
Seren smiled brightly as the students began to enter the greenhouse, she continued to greet them as they came through. "Morning dears."
"Good morning!" she replied with enthusiasm.
"Morning Jade, I trust you enjoyed your summer?"
"Hello dear."
"Morning Kurumi," Seren replied, returning the small bow. She hoped today's lesson would serve as a sufficient distraction for her Prefect. It must have been hard coming back so soon, though in many ways it was probably for the best. Keeping busy was always best.
"Ahhh bonjour Stella!" she replied with a warm smile. "It was marvelous thank you for asking. How was yours?"
Seren offered Ira a welcoming nod. "It was very enjoyable, I trust you enjoyed your summer?"
"Oh I did indeed," she replied with an enthusiastic nod. "And how was yours?"
"Hello dear," she greeted again as the students continued to file in. "I most certainly did. And how was yours?"
"Welcome back Amelia," Seren greeted as the Sytherin joined their ranks. "I had a lovely break, how was yours?"
As the next few students entered, Seren bowed her head in greeting. "Hello, hello."
Oh... no greeting. No matter, manners were taught by example. "Good morning... welcome."
My my my.. now there was one active and interesting Slytherin. Certainly a personality to keep a watchful eye on. "Hello and welcome!"
"Ahh good morning Jonathan," she greeted. Refreshed? "It's amazing what a couple of months in heaven can do." Because that was exactly where she was, in heaven. "I trust you enjoyed your holidays also?"
"Hello hello!" she greeted the next couple of students to enter.
Consulting her watch, Seren wondered how many more students were going to joint hem before she should begin. Hopefully the first years wouldn't get lost. A fair few of them had already managed to find their way.
As the next two students entered Seren couldn't help but smile to herself. Two lovely Snakes. "Good morning Daichi, Zhenya," she greeted with a nod. "I had a really nice summer and plenty of sun, thank you for asking."
Seren smiled as another few girls entered the greenhouse. "Good morning ladies," she greeted warmly... even if one o them had forgotten their manners.
"Hello dear," she replied with a smile.
Watching Elise's facial expressions change from fear to enthusiasm, Seren couldn't help but laugh a little under her breath. "I had a great summer, and how about yourself?!" she asked brightly.
"Err yes, hello dear," she replied, wondering why the girl was so loud and slightly out of breath. But nevertheless, Seren appreciated her attitude and lovely demeanor.
Watching as Minerva entered, closely followed by Taylor, Seren offered them a smile. "It was a fantastic summer, thank you for asking."
"Hello dear, welcome back!" She smiled at the young Badger. "My summer was amazing, loved every second of it... and how was yours?"
"It's nice to see you too Beatrice, had a good summer?"
"Hello hello," she greeted a young Ravenclaw and Jezzabelle as they entered the greenhouse.
"Morning! it most certainly was, and I hope you enjoyed the break as well."
"Welcome back dear," she greeted with a small nod, "it's good to see you too."
"Morning Harvey," she greeted the young Ravenclaw. "It was a lovely summer, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did."
"Good morning Selena, congratulations on Head Girl," she greeted with a wink.
Why on earth was Issac dodging her? and blushing? ...
"Good morning Issac!" she greeted with a slightly raised voice so that he couldn't miss it. Yeah that's right, she wasn't avoiding him...
"Morning Silvia dear."
"Morning Zack," she greeted her Lion with a nod.
And then there was another Lion.. perhaps she should get them all alarm clocks? "Morning Max."
AND another one! Lion boys spending too much time eating breakfast maybe? Seren smiled, partly to herself and partly to Gideon. "Glad you could make it dear," she greeted.
Now... time to start, yes? Or no...
"Welcome back Louisa, and congratulations on your Prefectship." She was about to ask the Ravenclaw how her holidays were when she received the same question. Exciting? .. "It was a remarkable summer... thank you for asking, and how was yours?" she couldn't help but sense the girl had some sort of motive in that question, but no matter...
"It was amazing, but it's great to be back," she replied, offering her Captain a small wink. "And how was your summer?"
"Goo--...." wait.. hadn't she already?... what?...
Turning her attention to the class, she saw the girl she had greeted earlier? Twins, that was it... these were the twins. "Good morning," she finished her greeting before sneaking a looking at her class list. Dreadfully useful they were sometimes, other times not so much... Evengeline and Evangelina? ... Their parents didn't think to give them different names?

And finally the lesson started! safe hands? Huh? Of course Bentley was a great professor. Anyways, Ira raised her hand up and answered, "Firstly... I bathe everyday" That was a very important thing of taking care of ourselves right?
Then she added, "I TRY to avoid junk food.." Really she did, but was unsuccessful most of the times! But that was another story!
Yup, that was enough to answer, she thought. So she became quiet and listened to others.

Looking up to give a small smile "Good morning professor." he said in return. Maybe she'd not heard how low his OWL had been. Well, either way he was determined to work harder this term in Herbology!
Wait, questions! Raising his hand he waited til he was called on before responding "Haf a good breakfast te start off yer day?"
Nigel was thinking about how to answer the question and thought how he starts his mornings, he raised his hand and answered " Professor i bathe daily,try not to eat a lot of junk food, i do not drink soda, and i brush my teeth everyday"
Nervous. Pfft. Amelia Kaikoura Johanson didn't get nervous.
She got excited - winded - and exhausted. But never nervous. Yes, winded because someone decided to build a school where you had to go down seven flights of moving staircases in order to get to the entrance hall and THEN walk outside AND to the greenhouses.
She was winded yes, but not winded enough to not be able to let out an audible gasp as she stepped into the Greenhouses. There was the happy looking Professor at the front of the classroom and she just couldn't help but wave and nearly yell "Hello Professor" since she was her new Professor after all. She smiled sheepishly as she found a place to stand and tried to find other excited first years like herself.
Pant-pant-GASP-pant-pant.
There her breathing wasn't sounding like a deflating bag pipe anymore. That was a good thing. Sounding like deflating anything was never a good sing. Never.
Kaiden wasn't sure if he was ready for the first lesson of the school year. He never really liked school, and the fact that this was magic school still made him a little uneasy. But he was curious, very, very curious. From what he understood, this herbology class had to do with plants. But what did plants have to do with magic? If it was identifying poisonous plants to touch or eat, he was sure he would be excellent in it. He had always excelled in that part of scouts.
After getting to the greenhouse right before the lesson started, he found Mika and sat next to her, giving her a small jab with his elbow. Listening to the professor's introduction, he raised his hand to answer. "I get exercise by hiking, or climbing." He did that almost everyday, and it was essential to him. If he didn't do it, he would go crazy. "I also eat, and make sure I have water when I go out." Going out on adventures without water was a stupid thing, and he knew it.

Alyssa frowned as she pondered on the question. She noted down what she normally did to take care of herself before raising her hand."Professor, I usually make sure that I eat as much healthy foods as possible like foods that contain lots of vitamins, protein and minerals. I eat lots of vegetables and fruits." Alyssa did a quick glance over at the plants hoping that she has not offended them by saying that, before continuing with her answer.
"I also make sure that I drink lots of water, instead of sodas, and exercise as much as I can. Of course I make sure that I shower at least once, if not, twice a day just to wash off any grime and dirt I may have picked up during the day... And oh yes I brush my teeth after every meal, and comb my hair."

Jonathan smiled at Professor Bentley when she described her vacation as heaven. Did she went to a spa, perhaps? With all the plants and stuff around. They have one of those when Jonathan visited Norway. It was really serene and lovely. "Had fun as well" he said when the Professor asked him a question. Short story it was fun.
Jonathan comfortably sat on his chair and listened to her as she started her lecture. Raising the first question, Jonathan thought deeply, what does he do on a daily basis to take care of yourself???

'Dears,' Zeke repeated in his mind. He did not appreciate being called one of the dears, though he tried hard not to dwell much on that fact. Before he could push the thought any further the class began.
At least that was a guarantee. Safe and sound. Too bad, he was really looking forward to seeing some action. Meheheh. But I guess none of that this term.

Sarah pondered the question for a moment. There were a variety of things in her daily routine that were good for her body.
Her hand then shot up. "Every morning upon awakening I wash my face and brush my teeth - good for me and everyone else's benefit. I make sure to never skip breakfast and preferably eat it before 10am, as afterwards the food is stored as fat. I drink plenty of water and have a balanced diet, snacking on fruit rather then junk food. I also shower daily and eep my hair tied up to avoid chances of lice.." she said rather quickly.

Lily sat towards the back of the class, listening as class started. Distractedly, she looked around to see who was new and who had returned from the previous year. Herbology had been one of those classes that the redhead didn't really mind. She had done well with her plants, but truthfully didn't like them. They just sat there, and didn't do much. And the magic that they used to care for them was pretty basic spells. But she was here nonetheless.
After she had scoped out the newbies in the class, she returned to paying attention to Professor Bentley just in time to hear the first question. Raising her hand, she waited for her turn before speaking. "I make sure to wash my hands before eating." You know... because otherwise you could get germs all over your food.

A large smile appeared on Nora's face when she heard the professor say something a very unique and wonderfully diverse group of plants, but she also hoped it didn't involve something deadly. But then again, they were in safe hands, right?
As for what Nora did to take care of herself... "Take a shower," she said after raising her hand, "brush my teeth and hair... and I also eat my vegetables." Yup, she was a little devil angel.
Class was starting, and Silvia had her quill ready to take notes. At the professor's question, she raised her hand. "I always make sure to get a good night's sleep and eat breakfast every morning so I can have enough energy during the day," she said. Yep, couldn't accomplish much if one didn't have much energy. "It's also important to get all the right nutrients too." The professor didn't have to know that she really didn't pay much attention to the types of food she ate. She was seemingly healthy, so she figured she was getting whatever nutrients she needed.

Maxwell walked into greenhouse four very close to the start of the lesson "Hello, Professor Bently." He offered his head of house a polite smile. He noticed Taylor and Minerva and sat with them closer to Taylor. "Hey" He said to both girls in a quieter voice as to no disturb the class.
Tay nodded to Maxwell and would of said hey back but the professor started talking.

Taylor raised her hand, "Well i wash my hands before eating, take a shower, brush my teeth, do yoga and dance to stay fit and follow safety instructions when given during a lesson or going rock climbing for instance."
Harlow thought about the question for a moment before she answered. She raised her hand, "I brush my hair and my teeth before bed. I take baths and I use baby oil gel. I make sure I don't eat too many sweets and I a read a bedtime story to myself every single night." It kept her young. What could she say.

See, West wouldn't have MINDED that kind of insanity? In fact it was POSSIBLE that THAT was what his head thought Herbology was ALL ABOUT.
This kid was probably gonna be disappointed for a minute or so before he got distracted by something else.
The firstie's eyes tracked the professor to the door and around the greenhouse, avidly, and almost like he DESPERATELY WANTED TO ASK THINGS.
But he refrained and when she - Professor Bentley- asked a question, his hand shot uppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp.
Then WAAAAAAAAAVED AROUND MADLY.
"I practice being awesome! I learn new things so that I can be more cool and more knowledgeable on each new day! I exercise my BRAAAAIN and my body!" Here he struck a pose, firstie!muscles! "I protect myself from the ELEMENTS! I SOCIALIZE! I stand up STRAIGHT and I be CONFIDENT and I make sure that I don't DIE."
Oh and all that cleaning and sleeping and eating stuff. And he wore clothes. But the stuff he said was obviously more important since there was a different between LIVING and simply SURVIVING. Yeahhh Live it up! West Odessa style!
He fist pumped excitedly before putting his hand down again.

How he took care of himself? That's interesting. The blonde guy tried to answer, he raised his hand to the air.
"Ehm.. Professor." He said. "First, I don't eat sweets." But sometimes he drank muggle soda. "Then I wake up in the morning, doing a little exercise, eat at least five apples and drink at least two glasses of milk everyday." Yay, apples! He really loved apples and could eat more than 5 apples for a day. "Then I do jogging in the afternoon." He shared some of secrets how could he became very tall and big for his age.

Hmmm what did Hannah do to take care of herself? The first thought that popped in her mind was that she didn't talk back to her parents...because, well she was sure they would have her hide. She was sure that wasn't what the professor was asking for though.
All of her classmates had said almost everything she could think of. Not wanting to be left behind she raised her hand. "Professor I take care of myself by being safe in whatever I'm doing." That was kinda vague she thought to herself. "I mean if I'm out in the garden helping my mother I wear gloves. I make sure to protect myself." There that seemed to be a little bit better of an explanation.
"Welcome back Louisa, and congratulations on your Prefectship." She was about to ask the Ravenclaw how her holidays were when she received the same question. Exciting? .. "It was a remarkable summer... thank you for asking, and how was yours?" she couldn't help but sense the girl had some sort of motive in that question, but no matter...
"Thank you," BEAM. Louisa liked the way Bentley didn't recognize her as 'Prefect' but as 'Louisa'. Now that was the attitude the Ravenclaw preferred. "It was quite interesting, yea." And on she went to take a seat. Class was almost starting anyways.

Huh. An easy cool question before the real deal. Louisa raised her hand and offered the answer almost everyone did, "Hygiene is the first priority, professor; Washing up, clean clothes, and clean place." That was physically.
Mentally Louisa would spend some time on her readings, non-school ones. But that seemed hardly related to Herbology so... she didn't voice this out.
