Default Book Club Meeting 1

Book Club Meeting One

An area in the middle of the library has been cleared of bookshelves and other equipment to make room for a big round circle of bean bags in all colours of the rainbow. One bean bag which is bigger than the others and bright orange is Mr Kitridge, the schools librarian sitting on with a small note book in his lap. For the afternoon meeting he is dressed in dark red robes.

In the middle of the circle of bean bags there is a stack of writing cards and a giant sized bowl full of candy. The candy has only been brought to the meeting because Mr Kitridge wants to give everyone a treat. Any food or drink found in the library at other hours/occasions will be thrown out and the student/s will be punished.

Go ahead and take a seat on a bean bag of your choosing and help yourself to a candy treat as you make yourself a name card while you wait for the meeting to start!

OCC: The meeting will begin in around 7 pm GMT tuesday night (May 8th). Don’t forget to bring your favourite childhood book! Keep chatting to a minimum! If you haven’t then please take time to familiarize yourself with the rules for the library.

West was pretty well unimpressed.

He even had a list of things that were unimpressive, all of which he intended to tell Aspen about later to get it off his CHEST and like, be reassured that he was so very right about his list.

1) The fisherlibrarian had the biggest beanbag. Like he thought he was better than everyone else.

1a) It was orange. aka the colour of salmon. And probably the fisherlibrarian couldn't even tell that it was that colour because apparently he saw orange things as pink or something.

2) West didn't like that there was candy there. He liked candy. He really REALLY liked candy. But it was EVIDENCE that the fisherlibrarian thought he was better and different that everyone else even though he liked to eat poofish. There was candy and then there was a rule about not eating. Like he was gonna catch them out and stuff.

3) The librarian was dressed in Gryffindor colours. Like he'd made a point of wearing them. So he was being biased to Gryffindor or something. Probably.

4) People were making nametags. West decided not to put one on. Cos nobody had told him to.

He sat with his book under his arm, not yet revealing it to anyone. The beanbag he chose was green like his houseeee. And it sunk only a bit but he could already tell it would be hard to get up.

5) the beanbags were impractical. What if there was a fire? It'd take ages to get out of them and then you'd die

BUT WEST was totally giving this whole thing a chance. If it sucked he'd leave, it wasn't a class, so that was allowed, right? Yeah!

.... what was he gonna do while he was waiting for this thing to start?

Elise bounced into the room, her favourite childhood book cutched close to her chest. Nearly tripping over a beanbag, she beamed sheepishly at the professor person. "Good day, sir."

Oichi had read about book club in the library and knew she wanted to go. This was a great chance to meet new people and learn what they like. With her book in tow Oichi entered the library at the specified time with her favorite book, Alice in Wonderland. She had always been facinated with the supernatural, now she is one, could life be any better. She saw nametags and signed in:

Quote:
Name: Oichi Paulidine
Year: 2nd

She put the nametag on her robe and then looked around and saw a nice little bean bag set up, cool. Oichi plopped into one of the chairs and made herself comfortable. She then opened her book and began to skim through the pages as she waited for the meeting to start.

Seeing that the meeting area had been made to be rather inviting, Emmanuelle relaxed a bit. Spotting who she assumed was the librarian sitting on his own bean bag already, she greeted him. "Hello, sir." She chose a light blue bean bag and sat, starring at the center of the circle. Or more specifically, the candy bowl. She was hesitant to take a piece, though (after all, they were still in the library) and instead took one of the cards and wrote her name on it.
"Good day, Emmanuelle!" Leobald greeted the next girl to come into the library evidently another Slytherin too after glancing at her name card. He was glad he had remembered those

Grabbing one of the name cards, Sophie pulled a quill out of her bag and wrote a few things down.
The next student to come on over clutching a book was a badger. "Good day Sophie!" Mr Kitridge greeted the young girl after checking her card.

As the bean bags slowly filled up with students Mr Kitridge noted with amusement that only a few of the students actually helped themselves to the bowl of candy he had put on the floor. They must be remembering his rule about not eating or drinking anything except water in the library. It warmed his heart that they were following his rules to the letter.

Clearing his voice he decided to start the meeting. "Welcome everyone to the first of what I hope will be many book club meetings here in the heart of the library. My name is Leobald Kitridge and I am the new librarian." Gesturing towards the name cards and bowl of candy he continued "I’m very pleased to see that all of you have put up name cards to aid me with your names. I have only met a few of you so far." He said glancing briefly over at West, Zhenya, Leisel and a few others.

"It’s also is endearing to see that each and every one of you seem to have read the rules of the library. For this meeting and this meeting only you are allowed to feast on the candy available in the bowl. There should be enough for everyone." To prove what he meant Leobald reached out and took a liquorice wand from the bowl which he took a bite off.

Finishing his wand some moments later he continued "Now then can everyone in an orderly fashion by going around the circle state the name of the book they have brought and why it is their favourite childhood book?"

Mr Kitridge. Right. She'll have to remember that.

Grinning in response to the rather cheerful greeting, Nora then listened carefully to everything the new librarian was telling them. You know, that first-meeting-speech. She listened carefully, that is, until... WAS THAT A LIQUORICE WAND?! Those were Nora's favourites!

Ahem. Her favourites or not, they could wait. When her turn came, she answered his question. "I brought the Tales of Beedle the Bard," the girl said, slightly raising the book that was on her lap. "It is my favourite because my mother used to read me something every night, even though I knew the stories by heart." And she still did.

Grin.

Oh dear, she ws running late for the Book Club meeting!

Professor Elwood had hurried her way down to the library all the way from her office in the Divination Tower and skidded through the door just as it seemed thngs were getting started. Oh shoot.

"So sorry Mr. Kitridge, I couldn't find the place." Which was partially true, but she also had taken a little bit more time fixing her hair and picking out the blue and white stripped dress she was wearing. She had to look good for the students...and the Librarian, Baldie, Willy had said. She stuck with just his last name for now since they were with kids.

She quickly perched herself in a bean bag and looked to see who was going to speak first about their book. No one? Ok.

"Well, I brought my copy of 'The Tales of Beedle the Bard' and one of my favorite stories in there is 'The Hopping Pot' because its message of the wizarding community helping even Muggles makes alot of sense to me." Yeah, her mother was a muggle after all and her father had done alot of things to help her back in the day.

Paulie listened to their new librarian as he spoke. Oh, GOOD. So, the whole candy bowl wasn't a trick, then. In that case.... Paulie helped himself to the largest piece of chocolate candy he could find in there.

When Professor Kitridge asked them to announce their childhood book, Paulie released the slightly battered hardcover book that he was clutching to his chest and turned it around to show everyone else the cover. "My favorite book was Where The Wild Things Are, by Maurice Sendak," he said, panning the book as if he were a grade school teacher. As for why he deemed it his favorite, he shrugged. "And I think I like it so much 'cause I really like the illustrations of the monsters. I also like the whole plot of escaping into a cool, wild world or something." He gave a nod, as if to sum up that he was finished speaking, then looked to the next student.

West eyed the librarian at his greeting. How did he know it was a good day? It wasn't. It seemed weird to assume that. Wasn't he allowed to have NOT good days? What if someone wasn't have a good day but didn't realise it until someone said good day as a greeting and they suddenly realised that they weren't and then it made their day worse?

6) Fisherlibrarian should stick to hello. Just hello. Without being all presumptive about whether a day was good or not.

And whyyyy were they all bringing books TO a library anyway? It seemed suspicious to West who was suddenly imagining a conspiracy theory where all their books would get TAKEN and SHELVED.

7) They had to bring books TO a library. West had, but he wouldn't let go of his or let anyone touch it. Nobody. Especially the librarian.

West looked back stoically about this name card business and didn't say anything. The conspiracy theory was growing in his brain thanks to an overactive imagination.

And still the candy. Mentioning it out loud made him even more suspicious and AND:

8) The candy was on the floor. Now, West Odessa didn't mind food being on the floor, or touching the floor even, cos of the five second rule, but only if he dropped it or whatever. The fact that the fisherlibrarian actually was serving the candy -that shouldn't be allowed according to his dumb rules- from fhe floor was uncool. Very uncool.

8a) He inhaled a liquorice wand while people were waiting for him to keep talking and explain what the heck this was all about.

8b) Okay it was actually kind of cool how quick he managed that but still, West's dad would say it was bad manners.

9) And the rules thing! Why was it ENDEARING to have read the rules? The word choice had West even more suspicious. As he was sure Aspen too would find that questionable, and Aspen was right about things except when she didn't agree with West when he was right.

Orderly fashion. Book. Right.

West stayed quiet and held his book close to his chest. He didn't take any candy.

He next eyed Nora and some lady.

Beedle the Bard was okay, but it was sort of for BABIES.

West liked his book MUCH better.

Sitting on his beanbag he had skipped over taking a candy. For one he didn't think candy even belonged in the library, but really he wasn't all that much into candy either. So he just left it alone. He'd brought his favorite book of all time, that he still read when he was tired of the new books he brought each term. Looking up as the librarian started speaking, he listened to each of those who were there that spoke about their books they had brought and explained why they it was their favorite "childhood" book.

When it came to his turn going around the circle he held up the book he had for each to see. "Well I brought Swiss Family Robinson. I've always loved their story about how they were stranded on an island and set up a life there. I've done a lot of travelling but never got stranded on an island, so I kind of connected with the travelling part."

. Hello. It was hard to pick one favourite childhood book, as I have read so many yet in the end I chose a very old muggle book called "A little Princess". Not only did I like the fact that the heroine of the story had the name Sara, a name very similar to my own, but also I like the fact that Sara, had always been positive and like me, thought herself to be a princess. In fact thius book is an old copy that was presented to Sara Johnson, my namesake and great grandmother about more than a hundred years ago! I wish I can be as positive as Sara, and also be able to be able to hold my head high even in the fae of adversirty."

As the librarian started to introduce himself, Sierra adjusted the name tag that she'd created. It read:

Sierra Greingoth
5th year Slytherin

She didn't take any of the candy. She enjoyed candy, but it just wasn't something she had to have. It was a meh sort of thing for her. Then she looked down at the book she'd chosen to bring. It wasn't really a book written for a certain age, but she'd read it many times since she could read, and before that, her father read it to her nearly every day.

It was soon her time to share. "I brought Quidditch Through the Ages," she said, holding up the book. "Most people here have read it, I guess, but it's still my favorite childhood book. Quidditch is really important to my family. My dad was once the Slytherin Quidditch captain, and my mom played Beater on the same team. When I was little, before I could read, my dad read it to me, but then one day I started reading it on my own."

Oichi smiled as the librarian approuched everyone and began introducing herself. She knew the meeting would begin shortly. She soon heard the librarian ask them to take out their favorite book and share it with everyone. Oichiwaited her turn and when it came she went to say it when the divinations professor arrived, "Nice to see you here Professor Ellwood. So you're favorite childhood book is Tales of Beedle The Bard, my mum read me and my brother those tales. I personally like the Fountain of Fair Fortune best because in the end we learn what is truly importaint in life. As for my favorite book. I like Alice in Wonderland. I loved the zanyness as a kid. I dreamed that I would one day harness power like the potioned foods. I grew up in a muggle household never knowing that my mum is a witch till last spring when she told ne after she discovered that I am a witch. So my childhood dream has essentially come true", Oichi said with a smile.

Bellamy Sansjoy Tain

Bellamy slunk into the library, clutching his chosen book for the evening. If it was possible for an inanimate object to look tired of life itself, this book seemed like just that. All the colors that might have once existed upon its cover had been washed out into varying dull grey hues and scratches and water-stains morphed the entire shape so that not a single straight edge could be found.

Though his parents had both been muggles, the book had been an heirloom gift from his decidedly magical (and unfortunately named) Auntie Aubergine. Titled, "Petal by Petal", the story was perhaps a bit darker than more contemporary children's works, but it relayed a moving message nonetheless: flowers might have sentience, and with that sentience a longing to kill humans. It always made him think whenever he stepped on a dandelion.

He filled out a card with his free hand...

Quote:
Name: Bellamy S. Tain
Year: 5
House: Slytherin
... and silently took a seat in the circle. Upon realizing that others had already begun to explain their books, he thought quickly on what to say. "My favorite novel as a child was 'Petal by Petal' by Gregora Blit. It's a bit old but-" a page fluttered to the ground as if to prove this exact point. He hastily pushed it back in and continued, "But it's quality. An old lady goes out one day to pick the all the roses in her backyard and puts them in a little vase in her bedroom. As the flowers wilt, they release carbon monoxide, and the old lady - who never opens her window - eventually suffocates. The lesson is of course not to pick flowers. I don't to this day."

Alyssa waited until it was her turn before she raised her book and showed everyone what it was. "My favorite story book is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. They have made many muggle movie versions about but I still love the book version. It's my favorite because the story is all about how one person is able to survive despite against all odds and with the help of her friends is able to find true love and at the same time defeat her enemy."

Hydra walked into the library and saw a group of people sitting on bean bags in a circle in the middle of the room. She headed for the yellow bean bag and picked up a name tag and filled it out.

Quote:
Hello my name is Hydra Corona Prince
I'm a first year
and a Hufflepuff
She waited for her turn then began to speak 'Hello My favourite story is Oh the places you'll go by Dr Seuss. I really like this book because when I was younger I would read it almost all the time and would never had it read to me because I didn't like that... The reason it's my favourite story is because every time I read this i felt like one day I'd be whisked away to some sort of magical land... Yes I was thinking about Hogwarts.' She paused to smile at this point then continued, 'I basically take this book anywhere I know that I'll be staying for more than one night... Me and this book are inseparable...'

Ooh. Ooh. Book club. Indy loved books. And she loved the book that she had brought with her. She had it on her lap as she waited for her turn. Her book was kind oldish. It had belonged to her mother. But her mother was able to keep it nice and clean and hand it over to her. Aah. It was her turn now. Indy smiled, before she began to talk. "Hi everyone." It was nice to have a little greeting. hehe. "The book I have brought is a muggle book called "The Enchanted Capital of Scotland by Isobel K C Steele. I read and love this book because it's cool. And my mom said I should read it." And what her mother said she should do...Indiana did. Yup. The book was pretty good though. And she loved it. So everyone should read it.

oh. And she needed that little name tag thing. She quickly wrote it. There you go.

She waited her turn and said,"My favorite novel is a muggle book now known as The Red Pyramid, it shows that even if you start to lose things in your life, you can get them back in the progess."

EEEPP! Book club! This was so exciting! Renesmee loved reading, even though she barely got the time to. She hadn't read a good book in a while and hopefully this would help who do so.

As always, Ness was barely aware of what was going on. She had been sitting on a purple bean bag and not really focused on what was going on. It wasn't that she hated books, she loved them. She wouldn't have been here otherwise. It was that she was tired, no exhausted and she could barely even think straight.

In her hand, she held her favorite childhood book, it was Peter Rabbit, one of the best stories ever, or at least she thought so. The red head couldn't wait to talk all about it, but before she could even write herself a name tag her eyes began to close and she drifted off to sleep.

Too bad for her...

Pam was really excited for this book club. She had love to read, but couldn't ever find time to do it over the summer. She was busy being chased. But this was an excellent time to wind down and relax. She had already sat on a purple bean bag, written her name (Pam Barstow), year (3rd), and house (Ravenclaw) on a name tag, and grabbed some candy to munch on. When time came for her to present her favorite childrens book, she took a deep breath, and began. "I brought Cinderella. It's my favorite because I loved how Cinderella had a horrible life, but she still got the man. It reminds me that I will have a better life one day. And my dad used to read it to me when I was younger."

John nodded and smiled at the librarian. He must admit it was pretty exciting, sharing a piece of what he calls 'childhood memories'. That in a way helped him a lot. As he smiled and listened to everyone share a bit of their favorite book, he felt somewhat butterflies when it was going to be his turn.

He took a deep breath and sighed. Looking down at his old, brown moth-eaten book he smiled. John then looked at everyone around him. "My favorite book, that is also closest to my heart is called Piggly Wiggly The Tale Of The Lost Plimpy. It's a magical short story about a plimpy who wanders off and gets lost. He goes through an extraordinary adventure, full of obstacles and triumphs when finding his way back home. This book has been passed down from my great-great parents, down to my mother and onto me. When I said it was closest to my heart was because, it made me believe that anyone could find their way back home, that with determination, distances, boundaries and obstacles can be overcome. It also helped me cope when my father, a muggle army veteran was lost at sea and went missing for then ten years. Whenever I read this it helps me feel relieved, whenever I feel homesick." John shared with a bright smile. There was so much admiration in his eyes, this book was more than just paper it was where he could find a piece of...home.

Louisa was staring like an idiot for exactly three minutes. At Paulie. With a book. His favorite so he said. Even if the book's title wasn't really that promising but it was a book. And Paulie was in a book club.

Staaaaaaare.

Until the person sitting next to her spoke. She quickly regained herself and held the book in her hand to show it to everyone else. "I brought Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. My favorite book when I was about eight. My stepdad used to read it for me almost every night before sleep." Louisa almost chuckled at the memories, "It's a greatly funny book with series of adventures of the troublemaker Huck, Tom Swayer's best friend." GRIN.

Everyone was getting why this was her favorite book, no? Sarcasm and troubles in a book! Hello!!?

HEEEY!

He was the man that saw him fall over at Diagon Alley. Oooi. That was embarrassing. Kennedy sunk in a bit more into the beanbag. So, it was Mr Leobald Kitridge. He seemed nice to be a librarian and maybe Kennedy will return to have a word with the man about something he needed help with. Hmm.

The Prefect took some candy, which not even these days made him feel any better. He bit on whatever he had gotten and chewed it slowly, but froze when he heard Mr. Kitridge say they were to share their book. Oh no. He's was so...so...childish. It would take all his manliness away. But what was the point of joining the book club if he wasn't going to participate. After the last person finished sharing their book Kennedy took a deep breath and put on his I'm-fine-and-dandy face. "I brought a book called The Boy Who Lost His Teddy," he said, murmuring the last part as his cheeks flared up. "It was given to me when I was a child, and it's my favorite because the moral of the story is that you have to strive to get what you want...even if there's obstacles in your way," he said in hushed voice, but still audible. It wasn't much the story, but the value of the book. His mother had given it to him and...yeah, he wasn't going to get all sentimental. That wasn't him.

Next.

Morgana was not so shy as she entered the library. She was least shy in this place because she had visited the library many times before. She liked it even more than the Common Room.

"Hello professor." Then she sat down.
