The Greenhouses

When not in use for classes, several of the greenhouses that are located on the school grounds are open for private and independent research and study. In fact, this is highly encouraged.

Within the unlocked doors of the greenhouses you will find rows and rows of plants. The greenhouses contain a wide variety of plants - both magical and mundane. Want to practice your pruning skills? Why not practice on the Abyssinian Shrivelfig of a Flutterby Bush? Or perhaps you want to harvest some Puffapod seeds- just don’t drop them!

In the cupboards you will find several shelves containing any equipment you might find yourself needing: trowels, cultivators, shears, protective goggles and the like. Also, in case you forgot your own, there is a cupboard which contains work robes and gloves in various sizes. As usual, you can find the fertilizer in a heap behind the greenhouses.

Remember Professor Bentley likes to take regular strolls through the greenhouse to check on things. So make sure you wear your protective gear and behave yourselves accordingly.

Alyssa opened the door into the Greenhouse making sure that she closed it securely behind her. "We definitely don't want pests getting in here,"Alyssa thought to herself.

She looked all around her and saw an assortment of plants, both magical, as well as, regular plants that didn't possess any magical properties, but were still beautiful in their own way. "Okay time to get to work before Charms class."

She put on a work robe, protective gloves and protective goggles, before she picked up a broom and started sweeping up the dead leaves that had fallen on to the ground, making very sure that she didn't step too close to the plants that would take a nip out of you if one got too close. She scooped up the leaves and threw them into the bin that was stored at the back of the greenhouse. "Good for mulching later,"Alyssa thought to herself.

She then picked up a pair of pruning shears and started pruning some of the plants. They seem to really enjoy what she was doing because they seemed to give a little quiver of enjoyment just like Caltex did when she tickled her belly. Alyssa smiled when she saw that. As she worked on the Abyssinian Shrivelfig of a Flutterby Bush, she hummed a song. When she was done, she picked up the clippings and added them to the leaves in the bin.

"Okay, I think that's enough for one day," she told the plants before her. "I'll see you all again soon". Alyssa realized that she was talking to the plants and started to laugh. "Thank goodness, no one is here now, or they'll think I'm cuckoo".

With that she hung up the pruning shears and broom in the cupboard where she had taken them out earlier. Then with a little wave to the plants, she left the Greenhouse, closing the door behind her.

Katrina went in the greenhouse and saw only a second year inside it. Katrina felt shy and weird. She sat on the seat and examined some of the plants in front of her but she was also careful not to get in trouble.

Salima walked into the greenhouse and sow two girls in there. Trying not to be a bother, Salima walked around examining the plants around the greenhouse before she sat down.

Harvey walked in and was amazed at the sight of the Greenhouses, he decided to walk around looking at different plants (keeping his distance from the long tentacled ones) until the professor arrived.

The greenhouse is sooo green. There is more beauty in Herbology than at the lounge area. Erin thought all the while that it's the most beautiful place she'd ever seen but no. This is the one. She walked straight to the path of green plants and is that Bermuda Grass? It's so good to the eyes. Erin decided to be here and be green for a while. She went to the cupboards to borrow some of the gardening tools. She remembered Professor Bentley advising her that there are dangerous plants in here and so better be careful.

As Erin is walking, she saw a very familiar looking face, it was Harvey, definitely. "Hey Harvey! Hogwarts grounds huh, you're learning your lessons. She's most likely to be at the lake at this moment of time," she told him. Erin can't stop laughing at the fact that two of her best friends in Hogwarts are going to start a relationship together. Deep down, she hopes Not Yet. But it's their choice. Who is she to intervene?

Clutters of leaves are all over the greenhouse. It surely needs some students to clean it. And she's going to be a volunteer to that. "Why are you here by the way?"

Harvey saw Erin walk in and she too saw him. When she said that Minerva is probably by the lake he does his best not to bolt out that door. "Oh just having a look around before Herbology starts, you?" He asks her

Erin knew instantly that this guy wanted to go as fast as he could to the lake. Why did she say that? She's not sure if Minerva was there. Erin was with her Slytherin friends earlier and Minerva was nowhere to be found.

She stretched her arms side to side to answer Harvey. Duuuh! What on Earth is she doing down here with the gloves and gardening robes? Of course, she's going to do the garden. But she let it pass. "I've noticed it's quite untidy here. I like Professor Bentley a lot and I wanna help her grow these plants," she said firmly. Professor Bentley is truly a charmer. Erin is totally drawn to her. Herbology is going to be her most favorite subject during her stay here at Hogwarts. "Do you wanna join me? I would understand if you wouldn't,"" she laughed at her friend.

At first Harvey thought 'See ya!' but then he realised that it was not nice to leave a friend alone. So he decided to stay, he would be able to meet Minerva in classes. But there was no guarantee that Minerva was by the lake right now. "Sure I will join you" Harvey said knowing why she had giggled and assumed that he wouldn't want to stay

Erin smiled at Harvey's sensitivity. She surely knows this guy wouldn't choose her from Minerva. Good Heavens, he loves her and Minerva, Erin thinks, feels something for him as well. As much as she needed company, she should distant herself from this guy so that he'll be able to give time...MORE time, with the girl he truly wanted to be with. And so, Erin bent down as Harvey came closer. She started digging the soil, tearing away all the clustered leaves and looked up to him, "I was just joking. You could find your princess now," she said mocking him. "Go, shoo!" she said pushing her hand towards him.

Harvey sensed a change in her, but he brushed it off as nothing. "No really it's ok I will help that is what good friends do, they help each other. You helped me in the common room so I am going to help you. " With that he bent down next to her and started collecting the leaves.

Is he really doing this? Erin doesn't want him to feel forced. "Are you sure about this? Minerva could be there somewhere hoping to see you. She might be dreading to find you," she said then added,"Go, don't feel compromised. I'll be okay with the plants." Erin just wanted to be alone now. She's been a possessive friend to Jayden and now, Erin can't face the fact that she's more happy with her boyfriend than be with her. They didn't even talked that much since she met her guy. In Minerva and Harvey's part, they were both her friends. She just hopes, they wouldn't ignore her once they're together.

"Yes I am sure, I am kind of nervous and scared. I mean if I go there what do I do? I mean I might make a fool of myself. I think it is best I stay here with you" He said looking at her "for now at least" smiling. Erin was a good friend, if he and Minerva did get together he would have to make sure not abandon his friendship with Erin as that would leave her all alone and he couldnt bear that he thought to himself frowning at the thought.

She looked at Harvey befuddled. It truly shows he wanted to see Minerva. "If you don't do it now? Then when?" Erin said thinking he is acting so slow. She started to advise him, "Listen here, Harvey. Minerva's a beauty and if you don't act now, remember she's in Hufflepuff and those guys there are known to be loyal," she said pointing him her shovel, "...which means they are serious when it comes to loving. Erin worked again on those clustered leaves all over the greenhouse, as Harvey thinks.

"I don't know when." he replied. "Yeah I know. I will tell her soon, I just need to figure out what I am going to say and how." Erin was right Minerva was a beauty, he continued to work on the leaves as Erin stared at him.

Erin is becoming a real nosy right now. Yes, she is. Harvey wouldn't let it out himself but she just knew. "I just wish you both the best and take it slow you know," she said thinking of other people who rushed everything and in the end it'll all just be a waste. A waste of time, a waste of effort. "I know, you really like her but getting to know her more will be the right first move." It's not really general for girls but on her part, she wanted the guy to exert extra effort in showing the girl his love. Erin really wanted to feel the sparks when it's her time to fall in love. Just not now.

Harvey was listening intently to the advice being given to him. "Yes you are right Erin, I should get to know her and see what she is like. I like her and I will make an effort in showing her that, after that we will see where this road takes us." Wow, Erin had really good advice, everytime she spoke it got him thinking. He didnt want to waste this opportunity he had to have someone in his life.

Erin worked on digging the plants intently as she looked up to Harvey, "Hey! Get a move, Mister," she said laughing. "You said you're helping me."

With that, Erin and Harvey dig and clean and prune and sing. Yes! Erin hummed some of her favorite tunes from Muggleworld. Of course, Harvey joined in. He's quite familiar with those kind of tunes. He's also a Muggle, or better say Muggleborn.

Erin jolted him out of his thoughts. "Yes ma'am" He said, this was nice being with a friend rather than sitting on your own somewhere. He should do this more often, spending time with friends.

As promised Alyssa came back after the first lesson was over. She entered the greenhouse and made sure that she closed the door securely behind her. She went to the cupboards where the pruning shears, cultivater, scoop, pail and broom were kept and removed them from the shelves. Placing the pruning shears, cultivater and scoop on the work bench and the broom and pail beside it, she put on her work robes, gloves and goggles. Picking up the pruning shears and she walked over to the plants that needed pruning. "Hello my lovelies, I hope that you're all feeling well today. I'm going to snip off some of your dead twiggies, and that should help you feel even better,"Alyssa whispered to the plants.

She noticed 2 other students working in the greenhouse too but decided to let them work alone as they seem to be doing a great job and better yet, they were enjoying themselves as she heard them humming popular hit song tunes.

Once she was done pruning, she placed the pruning shears aside. She picked up a pail and filled it with fertilizer from a heap that was behind the greenhouses. She came back into the greenhouse, picked up the cultivater and scoop went over to some of the plants that seemed to be low on fertilizer. Picking up each pot, she gently dug into the soil to help aerate and mix up what was in there, and then she scooped up fresh fertilizer from the pail and filled up the pot, patting down the dirt to make sure that it was packed tightly in the pot. She then moved on to the next pot repeating the same steps until all the pots were freshly fertilized.

Alyssa looked at her watch and noticed that she had been working in the greenhouse for almost an hour and realized that her tummy was growling. "Okay, I know that it's time to feed you now. We'll get going,"she patted her tummy. She picked up the broom and started sweeping up the dirt, twigs and leaves that littered the floor the greenhouse. Once she was done, she scooped up the dirt and placed them in a bin located near the door.She picked up all her tools, the pail and broom, washed them before placing them back in the cupboards. Then making sure everything was tidy, she left the greenhouse, closing the door behind her.

Penny went to the greenhouse, to clean some of the mess her class had made earlier that day... thinking that an hour alone would be great to do some thinking...

Walking in though, she noticed that some other students had the same idea.. then she noticed Alyssa there too...

"Hey chick, you here to clean up some too?", said Penny as she put on her gloves and grabbed a trowel and watering can with water.

Kurumi could hardly believe that October was already upon them. As she made her way down to the greenhouses with a few more layers due to the crisp autumn weather, she wondered why she was even heading down here in the first place. If she was going to check on plants, she usually went to the Student Garden where the cherry tree she had planted was. Oh well.

She reached into her pocket for one of her successful chocolate chip cookies she had baked with her transfigured oven and popped it into her mouth before entering the greenhouse. Maybe she shouldn't have worn two sweaters...it was awfully warm in here.

Corey was off the path now, in amongst the plants and things. He was still following the scent in the air, but also the boy was stopping to touch everything, or look at it very closely if it looked like it shouldn't be touched.

After a few months of this he burst out of the greenery and appeared on the path, blinking at the light.

As Kurumi walked, the heat from the greenhouse became too much and she decided it was time to remove her black uniform sweater. Just as she had it above her head, she heard a cracking noise and she froze. There was...something in the greenhouses among the plants. It better not be more pixies...

Not seeing where she was going, Kurumi quickly pulled off her sweater and waved it around in the air hoping to scare whatever it was coming her way when...a boy burst forth from the bushes.

She must look like a right idiot.
