Dueling Club Meeting Two

It was at the end of the day when the doors that led to the dueling club's room were opened by Gnaeus. It was the last day of the week and the students were eager to enjoy their weekend, but before they could do so they were invited to spend the remaining of their energy dueling.

The room was slightly cleaner than it had been for the previous meeting. The broken trophy stands and benches had been repaired and dusted, but there was still plenty of space to duel. Apart from that and a few small dragon statues hanging from the ceiling, the room looked the same.

Gnaeus made his way to the center of the room, up the stage, and there he waited for the students to arrive. As the students enter the room, the figures in the portraits whisper to each other very silently, then suspiciously abandon their portraits, leaving an empty frame behind.

OOC: The meeting has started, but anyone is still welcome to attend. While you won't lose points if you walk in late, it's best if you just pretend you have been in there all along.

1. Quick recap and brief summary of what will be covered in this meeting.
2. Introduction to Counter Spells
3. Episkey

AlwaysDance 10-26-2011 12:26 AM

Isabelle walked into the dueling club room. She hadn't been able to make it the the first one so she wan't to be sure to get to this one. "Good afternoon," she said cheerfully taking a seat on a bench waiting for the meeting to start. Isabelle wondered why the portraits began whispering and leaving their frames when she and the other students began to enter. That was suspicious.

Magical Soul 10-26-2011 12:35 AM

Louisa dragged her feet into the Great Hall for the next Dueling Club meeting. It was when the meeting takes place at the end of the day and just few hours before weekend that she regrets joining the club. HOWEVER, the girl felt the urgency of attending it - she wanted to take revenge from that Dark Wizard, didn't she?

Walking into the room, her eyes caught the dragon things hanging from the ceiling. She swallowed, she should've walked in with Vashti. She knew it. After the incident at the Greenhouse and walking snow monsters Louisa should never walk around the castle alone. Her eyes met those of a portrait's man and she was about to smile when he turned and disappeared into the far small door drawn behind him.

Okaaaaaaay, something was off with ghost spirits in Hogwarts today. "Good evening.. or afternoon, sir." She said, tiredly.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 10-26-2011 12:36 AM

Vashti was definitely ready to practice some dueling again. She'd been looking forward to the second club meeting, so she arrived fairly early, smiling as she entered. "Good day, sir," she greeted Mr. Spenser before suddenly noticing the odd behavior of the portraits. Why were they leaving? Did they not want to watch? Perhaps not? Hmm... She shrugged it off and simply took a seat on one of the benches to wait for the rest of the students to arrive.

slytherus 10-26-2011 01:21 AM

Aiden makes her way into the room when she sees Mr. Spenser up on the stage. "Good morning, sir," she greets the old man with an enthusiastic voice. Then, she realises the portraits are leaving. Odd...

Quick Quotes Quill 10-26-2011 10:57 AM

'Good day sir', Gwendolyn said as she walked in the room. Scanning the place, she realized it looked a bit cleaner... and well- better, than the last time she saw it. Then, spotting the portraits, she frowned, not understanding why they were acting so oddly. Meh...

I love this dueling club, she thought while looking around, hoping to see some familiar faces. The girl than made sure she had her wand and waited for the class (was it even a class?!) to start.

Granger1814 10-26-2011 11:02 AM

Second meeting! The first was pretty awesome in itself, and she hoped that this one would be equally informative. With a bounce in her step, Kourtney entered the room, greeting the instructor with a quick. "Hello, sir!"

She glanced around, noticing that a few students had already shown up, and then her attention was drawn towards the portraits around the room. She had already become used to the talking portraits, but these particular portraits were behaving very strangely.

Watching them with narrowed eyes, she tried to figure out what exactly was the problem. Was it because of the students? Or something with the professor?

hjhm 10-26-2011 11:45 AM

The second meeting has finally arrived. Jonathan walked over to the Great Hall and entered the classroom. Yeah, he probably needs some practice in his dueling skills.

Entering the room he spotted the teacher "Good day, sir" he smiled. And whoah everything seems to be back to normal. No more broken stuffs and best of all it's all tidied up for their second meeting.

dansgurl 10-26-2011 12:00 PM

Sarah walked into the room. She looked at the room, second meeting, wow. Sarah looked excited and interested. What would he teach today? She was ready to practice anything. She spotted him. "Hello sir, how are you today?" she asked cheerfully. Sarah's attention was caught by the portraits on the wall. They looked grumbled and moved out of the frames. It made her uneasy. Hm, that's something. She waited for the students to arrive and the class to start.

sweetpinkpixie 10-26-2011 12:02 PM

Oookay...the manner in which the portraits left their frames was a little alarming, but Kurumi tried not to let the cold shiver that was shooting down her spin bother her too much. "Good day, Mr. Spencer," Kurumi said with a smile, no bow. She had learned that the hard way. No bowing unless you intend to duel. Lesson learned. Thank you for that, sir. Still, it was really hard for her to not rely on the principles and manners she had been raised with.

Kurumi continued her way around the room, waving at Kourtney as she did. "Nice to see another lion her," she winked at the first year before continuing on. She saw Jonathan and waved. Probably not the place for her to stand near him, dueling and all, but he was standing with a perfectly Kurumi-sized gap between himself and Kourtney, so she took the risk. "Nice to see you here as well," she smiled at Jonathan.

Sarah saw Kurumi enter the room. Hm. Another lion. Sarah waved towards her and smiled. "Hello" she said, "What do you think he'll do today?" Sarah looked at the two around her. Maybe I shouldn't disturb them?

jesifur 10-26-2011 12:33 PM

Jesifur walked into the room and said hello to the little wizard who ran the club. "Sir, I am very glad to have this dueling club, thank you for running it. I really enjoyed watching the duels last time."
Jesifur wasn't ready to duel herself yet, but learning all the spell in practice was really neat. She was sure she was learning as much in this club as she learned during her classes.

RandomRaven 10-26-2011 01:02 PM

Duelling club meeting two?? Raven was very excited. Since she loved to cast some spell and duel. She walked to the room of the great hall and greeted Gnaesus Spenser. The duelling club instructor.

"Hello Mr. Spenser. I'm glad you make a second meeting right now."

Davvy_Wavvy 10-26-2011 01:04 PM

Cassie was most certainly under the weather. Her throat hurt and she had the sniffles but there was no way dueling club meeting was going to miss her. She enjoyed them way too much plus she was hoping to get to duel someone, soon. She had missed out the last time because of stuff..

She strolled into the room wand looked around. hmm no seventh years had arrived yet. Shame.

cheeseStrings 10-26-2011 02:37 PM

Janice walked into the room off the Great Hall and found herself in the duelling club. Apparently, she had forgotten that there's a meeting today. Trying to look casual, she walked in.

"Good afternoon, sir!"

Fira 10-26-2011 02:44 PM

A big lion walked in the room...

RAWR!!!

So, of course he had the smug look of 'i am the master of all' as he walked in the meeting place even thought he could very well remember how Evelyn kicked him during a duel at that certain room.

''Glad to see you again, sir.'' he said to the old duelling champion man with a respectful nod then eyeing the whole place he walked next to the only seventh years his dark brown eyes spotted: Cassie.

''Hello there.''

This was going to be a great meeting. Even though it was the last day of the week he was still feeling full of energy and...power and stamina and...yeah he was just RAWR!!!

Hehe...

Starbreeze 10-26-2011 02:45 PM

Eino walked in the room off the great hall right after he had dropped by the kitchens to grab a snack. He quickly stuffed the food in his mouth before he entered the room, and as he found a spot, he chewed the remaining of his food and swallowed it. Now he could really use a drink, but that was gonna have to wait. "Greetings, sir." He said to the old man and greeted some of the students around him. He wasn't sure what to expect of this meeting but he was looking forward to dueling again.

Govoni 10-26-2011 02:50 PM

Cassie / Josh

Marilyn was running behind...She'd just seen the notice for the second meeting...and had gotten to the dueling room as quickly as she could. Of course, when she entered the room, Cassie was already present...and so was Josh.

O.O

When did they get to classes before her?

Approaching them both, she smirked. "Hello, you two..."

Oh...and the Professor...

"Hello to you, too, Professor..."

Davvy_Wavvy 10-26-2011 03:22 PM

SPOILER!!: Cassie's friends and the prof

Oh...and the Professor...

"Hello to you, too, Professor..."

Cassie looked to the entrance as Josh walked in, with that signature Josh look. She rolled her eyes at him but giggled anyways. He was so silly sometimes.

It was when he said hi to Professor Spenser, that she realised the man was actually in the room. Gah he was so small, she hardly saw him sometimes.

"Oh hello Professor..I still want to touch your beard." She grinned at Josh.

"Great entrance." She said grinning at Josh.

Marilyn entered and she prod her as she walked over.

"Bout time you got here late bug." She teased.

Gnaeus Spenser 10-26-2011 06:03 PM

Gnaeus watched as each student entered the room and replied to their greetings, sometimes with words and other times with a firm nod. He was very pleased to see familiar faces and new faces fill out the room, but he was still expecting some late students to arrive. Once enough students had gathered around the stage, Gnaeus lifted both of his hands high in the air, then spoke. At this, the remaining of the figures in the portraits left, leaving nothing but empty frames covering the walls.

"Welcome, young witches and wizards, to our second meeting. I am very glad to see you all here." Once he had everyone's attention he lowered his hands and paced up and down the stage as he spoke. "Last time we covered the standard dueling rules. These are important rules duelists must respect and follow in a formal duel. In addition to that, you also learned the Shield Charm, Protego, which can be used to protect from most spells. This is one of the most important spells in dueling, so I hope you took the time to practice outside of the meeting." He paused and eyed all of the dueling club members before proceeding.

"Today you will learn Counter-Charms and Healing Spells, but you will also have the opportunity to duel using a wide variety of spells for the purpose of... creativity." Gnaeus smirked, then took notice of the absent portraits. "Perfect." He said to himself then paused in the center of the stage.

"However, before we get to that let's quickly go over what we learned last time. What are the standard dueling rules? What is the difference between a formal and an informal duel? One answer per student, please. Oh, and I will also need a volunteer to demonstrate how the Shield Charm is cast. Preferably an older student."

Roselyn 10-26-2011 06:23 PM

Having sneaked in just as the tiny wizard dude started his speech, Evelyn hung out in the back of the group, leaned against the wall and arms crossed just like the last meeting. This was just so she could keep an eye on everyone else as well, so they didn't get any funny business and play any jokes on her. They could play jokes on other people.

Hmmm, healing spells? Perhaps it was a good reason she was attending this dueling meeting today.

However, she was certain that a ton of people were going to be calling out the dueling rules and the difference between a formal and informal duel, so instead of raising her hand to do just that, she raised her hand for a different reason. "I'll volunteer, sir." To demonstrate the shield charm that is.

Davvy_Wavvy 10-26-2011 10:20 PM

Cassie stepped forward a little and raised her hand as Professor asked them to recall the rules of a formal duel. Man was it good to be back at a meeting and it was so fitting at the end of the week. Hopefully she would get to literally blow off some steam.

"First rule of dueling oponents or rather participants must bow to each other at the beginning of the duel."

She was about to volunteer to demonstrate but Evelyn beat her to it. Pouty frowny face. Sigh, maybe next time.

PatInTheHat 10-26-2011 10:36 PM

Arya snuck in behind the Head Girl, literally. She was taller and easier to hide behind than one of the younger students. But the idea wasn't so great when the girl decided to volunteer for stuff, making the short man aware of their presence, though she was sure he'd spotted them long before. Maybe now was a good time to offer up an answer for dueling rules...

Doing a bit of strolling to put some distance between herself and the she-snake, she unholstered her wand, twirling it idly. "No physical constant between duelist."

Gnaeus wasn't surprised to see the Head Girl's hand go up first at all. He was actually hoping she would volunteer. "Excellent!" He exclaimed and moved aside. "Please join me on the stage, Miss Flores." The man instructed and waited for the Slytherin to make her way up.

"Precisely. You always bow, and it has to be a proper bow, too. A simple nod is very disrespectful."

"Very good, Miss Lovegoods. All physical contact between duelists is prohibited, including handshakes, which is why duelists bow instead."

"What else?" He asked the rest of the students.

Kimalia 10-26-2011 11:01 PM

Kimalia definitely wanted to see for herself what this Dueling club was all about after hearing such praise for it. Although she was hesitant about actually dueling, perhaps it would be good for instructional and defense purposes.. She smiled seeing Evelyn go up to volunteer, she would show everyone how it's done, Slytherin style. Kimalia then rose her hand to give an answer, "Well, dark and unforgivable curses aren't allowed to be used."

Excellent? Well then...excellent.

Smirk.

Eying the group of people that stood in front of her, she sighed quietly and walked up the steps to the stage instead of hopping up the short way; taking out her wand as she did so. Although, was it bad that she felt uncomfortable standing near Shorty McShortShorty? And it wasn't because he was a dueling champion for how many years...

o.O

slytherus 10-27-2011 01:06 AM

One hand straight in the air, Aiden excitingly, but darkly provide her answer. "No harmful spells," she says with a smirk on her face. Not all harmful spells are the Dark Arts, aren't they? Like the Blasting Curse, for example.

GoldenSnake 10-27-2011 01:50 AM

Victoria thought about all the possible answers. She had never been to a dueling club meeting before, though she decided to try it this time. The name interested her...dueling...it may come in handy some day.

"Be fair...and be respectful even it if is a duel." replied Victoria. She know that a Slytherin shouldn't say this but... "Give mercy to the...loosing opponent." said Victoria. "There is no need to kill."

Deezerz 10-27-2011 01:58 AM

Kennedy sat there, listening to his classmates answers and thought of some that have not been mentioned. He raised his hand and said, "Once one of the opponents are disarmed the duel is over," he said. Kennedy was pretty sure that was one of the rules.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 10-27-2011 02:24 AM

A standard rule of dueling or the difference between a formal and an informal duel? Hm... Vashti was certain she knew what the difference between the two types of duels was, but for whatever reason the answer wouldn't come. It was surely in her notes somewhere, but she didn't feel like getting them out just yet. So she'd just have to go with what she did know.

With her hand raised, she answered, "Wands are necessary for dueling, sir. Performing wandless magic - like Apparating - isn't allowed."

Starbreeze 10-27-2011 02:29 AM

Eino had returned to the room to practice, so he had noticed the board with the standard dueling rules. Alas, by the time it was his turn all of the rules he remembered were pointed out, but all of the sudden another came to his mind. "Potion effects are not allowed." He said with his hand high in the air. He supposed Wit Sharpening Potions and a variety of others could be very helpful in duels, but it wouldn't be fair.

Lockhartian 10-27-2011 03:05 AM

He wasn't precisely late, but he wasn't there when Mr. Spenser (yes, the dude no longer goes by 'dwarf') had started, so, he had no other choice but to sit quietly and listen to what people were saying...and...why was Evelyn joining Mr. Spenser over there, eh?

She was going to hex them all, he had a feeling that's what she was going to do. She had that look on her face...or some other kind of look he didn't recognize, but yeah, at least it wasn't him up there. All good.

The Prefect actually moved seats to be near Arya and remained quiet. Was there something else he could mention? Nothing came to mind at the moment.

Kourtney waved towards Kurumi as she saw the prefect enter the room. Before long, the meeting was called to order and the instructor explained what they would be covering today. Healing Spells...awesome! Those would definitely come in handy.

A number of students were answering the rules to standard dueling so Kourtney decided to answer the second part of the instructors question. Raising a hand, she spoke. "Sir, formal duels have a set of rules, the standard dueling rules, and they take place in tournaments or when one wizard challenges another. Informal duels do not respect the standard dueling rules, instead the duelists agree on a set a different rules."

Jonathan looked at the professor when he asked the first question. He was at the first meeting so he could recap most of the rules. And the rules were easy anyway. Even if you weren't in the first meeting you would still know. Standard procedures as always. It's not that hard.

"No physical contact whatsoever to your opponents. We have wands to do the work already" he smiled. Well, it would be unfair to punch someone in the face right. So yeah, no physical contact. If you win, you win. If you lose, you lose.

RandomRaven 10-27-2011 07:59 AM

Raven raised her hand and answer the question.

"We must use our wand. Non verbal spell, using potion, using curse, transform become an animagus is strictly prohibited. Am I right?" said her

dansgurl 10-27-2011 12:12 PM

Er, rules? Sarah couldn't think of any in her excitement. "Hm, we mustn't have any physical contact with our opponents" Lame one. Sheesh. "We should not use any illegal or highly fatal spells or unforgivable curses in our duel" she spoke again.

Petrifying Curse, Blasting Curse, Conjunctivitis Curse, Curse of the Bogies, and some examples of curses that are allowed."

"Not necessarily. While the purpose is to disarm your opponent and not injure him or her, harming is inevitable in a duel. Some wizards won't surrender their wands until they are unconscious, so it quite common for injuries to occur. But, Dark Magic is never allowed."

"Non verbal spells are acceptable and more common than verbal spells. It helps conceal the spell you are casting from your opponent so it gives you an advantage. But at your age, you're better off casting spells verbally."

Although, was it bad that she felt uncomfortable standing near Shorty McShortShorty? And it wasn't because he was a dueling champion for how many years...

o.O

Gnaeus looked up at the Head Girl and contemplated shrinking her to his size for a moment, but decided not to in the end. "Now, for our demonstration." He spoke to the students, then retracted a few steps and he pulled out his wand. "Ready, Miss Flores?" He asked the girl as he raised his hand and pointed his wand directly at her. Then, the old man flicked his wand a red light shot from the end of his wand, making its way directly at the Head Girl.

Miss Flores for demonstration.

Shooting a quick glance at the Slytherin girl, Josh quickly turned his head to the other side to avoid seeing her. He had been having a nice day until he had heard the name and now he felt like quitting the club. Was not there any way to protect himself from the feeling? Maybe he was supposed to focus on everything BUT her.

So, he focused his dark brown eyes on Cassie and Marilyn instead, just listening to the duelling champion man. It sounded like 'the demonstration' was about to begin. Too bad he was not going to watch it. Nevertheless, when the old but cool man asked the girl if she was ready, the Gryffindor could not help staring at that direction...

...only to see a fast ray of red light coming towards the girl.

O_O

''NO!'' he yelled before he could know what he was doing and threw himself forward to the red light.

Cassie listened as the others recapped the last meeting. She nodded approvingly at the answers, but did not for a second miss Josh trying to ignore Evelyn. Well that wouldn't be easy.

She sighed and looked back at the professor as he prepared to get started. The next thing she knew Josh was yelling and diving forward. She made a desperate grab for him to pull him back from the light.

"Joshua have you lost your bloody mind?"

PatInTheHat 10-27-2011 03:15 PM

Arya shook her head at Josh, not at all surprised by his action and completely amused. Gryffindors. Did he really think that Evelyn couldn't defend herself from the spell? She briefly glanced over at her co-prefect when he joined the meeting, turning her attention then to her other Puff friend who was attempting to stop Josh. There really was no stopping Gryffindors when they set their minds to something crazy.

Magical Soul 10-27-2011 03:39 PM

Louisa just nodded her head at every answer her classmates had said. She knew all of them but was too distracted by the 'dragon-chandeliers' to raise her own. Her attention went quickly toward the dwarf when he addressed Head Girl for demonstration...

...or tried to when that Gryffindor threw himself forward.

Louisa sucked a breath of surprise at this sudden action but then scoffed. Was he really that immature to think that Mr. Perfect Duelist would harm a student? HEH. Gryffindors and their urges of 'saving' people.

RandomRaven 10-27-2011 03:44 PM

What the???

She saw a silly gryffindor boy tried to save the Head Girl.

Is he mad? I know Evelyn is great at duelling. How.. silly a love was

She didn't like the look he was giving her. Aw well, that moment ended as quickly as it started. "Yes, of course." she nodded, raising her wand up and ready to put up a quick shield charm. This should be easy enough. Unless he was going to get all Dueling Champion at her and blast her off her feet. Tricky tricky...

Staring at Mr. Spenser, just as he made a movement other than walking or breathing, Evelyn gave a wave of her wand horizontally like practiced in the previous lesson, from right to left and back to the starting point, before saying, "Protego."

GoldenSnake 10-27-2011 08:25 PM

Victoria beamed when Mr. Spenser replied to her. See...she's already catching up even for her absence from the last Dueling Club Meeting. Snakes slithers fast... But Victoria didn't like it much when the Dueling Champion called her 'young Slytherin'. O___o Victoria's fifteen, that's older than most of the students at Hogwarts!

Heehee...now that they're going to see the Slytherin Head Girl demonstrate a Protection Shield. Looks like it's quite a show time.

And then...

Then that happened.

What in Merlin's beard? What was he doing? She hadn't even seen him in the room until now...

Almost immediately after casting the spell Gnaeus heard a loud shout and an even louder thud. The red light barely hit the Gryffindor's boy head, but the spell was so powerful that it knocked him out as it continued to make its way towards the girl. Evelyn didn't let that distract her and she successfully bewitched a magical shield, shattering the red light into small pieces and nullifying the spell.

Noticing the ruckus, Gnaeus followed the students' eyes and found an unconscious Joshua lying on the floor by the stage. Joshua... a Gryffindor. No, Gnaeus wasn't surprise. He ignored the boy and turned his attention the the head girl. "Thank you, Miss Flores, that was an impeccable Shield Charm. You may return to your seat." He said and smiled. As the girl did so, Gnaeus levitated Joshua's body and left it dangling in the air.

"I've think we've had enough demonstrations for now, young Hufflepuff." Gnaeus said and winked.

Then he turned and addressed all of the students. "For those of you who are new, that was a perfect demonstration of the Shield Charm. Make note of it and remember to practice it when you have some free time."

"Now, that" he said glancing at the dangling body, "is a perfect demonstration of what not to do during a duel. But, we will be learning Counter Spells today, so let's look at this as an opportunity to learn." He then paused and lowered his voice. "Just don't tell your Headmaster I kept a student unconscious for this long." He said and winked.

"Back to the Shield Charm... It's extremely useful because most of the time you won't be able to identify a spell in time to use a specific Counter Spell, and the Shield Charm can protect against most spells, so it's the perfect go-to Counter Spell.

Now that you've seen the spell's effect,"
He said pointing at Joshua "who can tell me what spell I used? And let's talk about identifying spells in general. There three things that can help you identify a spell, what are they?"

Kita blinked. Okay, she usually admired the courage Gryffindor's showed but was that really the right move? Meh. Guess that just shows the power of feelings.

But anyways. Back to the professor. What spell did he use? Her eyes shifted between the professor, to the dangling boy and then back again. "Er... Professor?" she asked raising her hand, "Did you use the Stunning spell?" It usually projected a scarlet light... right?

... This was unusual for her. But was Kita going to stop? No.

Now onto the next question. "Is one of them the colour of the jet of light that is released from the wand after you've, er, said the spell?" she said, her hand still poised in the air. That should help identify a spell right?

PatInTheHat 10-27-2011 11:17 PM

"I believe you used a stunner, sir." She eyed Josh in the air with interest. THAT was a strong spell to have hit the older boy and still made it to the she-snake. Arya made note not to fool around if she ever was on the other end of Spencer's wand. "The color, and the wand movements are good spell identifiers... incantation too if it's spoken." Of course. Heh.

Deezerz 10-27-2011 11:17 PM

That was totally wicked!!!

Kennedy was amazed by the Gryffindor's bravery... Even if he did get knocked out.

After getting over that cool stunt Kennedy raised his hand. "Did you use Stupefy?" he asked. "Wand movement is one of the way to identify a spell," he offered.

MainEventMan 10-27-2011 11:35 PM

"Can someone please explain to me what's happening here?" Carson asked

Magical Soul 10-27-2011 11:42 PM

Louisa was gaping at the dangled body of the boy, she might not be a fan but this was too horrible! She glanced at the short man with scared eyes and absently put a strand of her hair behind her ear in a nervous gesture. This professor was scary.

"Th-the wand movement...a-a-and the c-c-color of the s-s-spell maybe?" Her mind was just blocked. How could the rest of the students play it cool when their classmate was WHO KNEW WHAT and dangling in the air?!

.... or was it just her being rabbitish?

MainEventMan 10-27-2011 11:53 PM

Carson noticed the kid dangling in the air. He didn't know the counter curse,so he decided to just ignore it.

Starbreeze 10-28-2011 12:15 AM

The the boy just... and then did he... and Mr. Spenser just...? Eino wasn't exactly sure how to react to everything that had just happened, but the old man seemed like he knew what he was doing. He wasn't really worried, just shocked that that Gryffindor had tried to defend the Slytherin? He wasn't sure why, though. It wasn't like the Dueling Expert would put them in any danger, right? At least, he wasn't scared of him, he seemed nice and was funny looking. He paid attention to the man's next question but didn't raise his hand in time, so he just remained quiet.

Instead, he turned his attention to a young Gryffindor next to him. "I do believe the older Gryffindor student was hit by a Stunning Spell and now is unconscious. I suppose he wanted to duel very badly, or perhaps he wanted to be the one to demonstrate the Shield Charm instead." He explained and shrugged a second time.

slytherus 10-28-2011 01:11 AM

Aiden glances over at Josh's dangling body. Hmph! Typical Gryffindors... she shrugs and turns her attention back to Mr. Spenser. As the old man's questions are heard by her, Aiden quickly puts her hand up in the air. "That was a Stunning Spell, I believe," she pauses before proceeding to the second question. "For identification... The incantation and effect?" she answers doubtly. Why she didn't say the colour and wand movement was because there are spells with similar colour and/or wand movement.

GoldenSnake 10-28-2011 01:20 AM

First of all, that was a cool spell.

And Victoria also thinks she recognizes the spell, it's quite common actually. "Did you use the stunning spell, sir?" replied Victoria. She decided to use 'sir', because he's not an official Hogwarts Professor after all.

"You observe the movement of the wand and the color." Victoria replied simply to the next question.

Granger1814 10-28-2011 02:48 AM

Kourtney smiled to herself at the instructor's remarks on her answer. She then watched the demonstration closely, stifling a gasp as a Gryffindor jumped towards the arc of light sent from the instructor's wand. What was wrong with him?! She glanced back and forth between the now unconscious boy and the instructor. The man didn't seem very concerned, so the spell must not have been very harmful.

As many students were already claiming that he used a stunning spell, she remained quiet for the moment, thinking of how to identify a spell. "The incantation...obviously, but also the effects of said spell. For example, you used a spell that produced a red light, but other spells can produce a red light, such as Expelliarmus. The effect of your spell is what helped identify it in this case, as the incantation was not spoken aloud."

Professor

Cassie watched as the professor had Josh's unconscious body dangling in mid air and was more than a little uncomfortable with it. Josh was her friend and this was more than a little embarrassing. He was going through a rough time as is. She was now a whole lot less excited about dueling and pretty much just wanted to leave. The seventh year barely even heard a word of what the little man or the students were saying.

She raised her hand slowly.

"Professor would it be okay..if we took Josh to the hospital wing just to be on the safe side?...and plus having him like this is embarrassing."

She met his eyes and held eye contact with him, hopefully he wouldn't make an example of her too.

Marilyn could not believe Josh did that. What was WRONG with that boy lately? It was craziness.

Glancing to Cassie, she began nodding. "Sir, I believe we need to set him down..." Josh was her friend and this was demeaning.

...And..."And Sir...the red jet of light and the way he's now laid out, proves it was the Stunning Spell..."

"That won't be necessary. I've been stunned more times than I would like to admit. The worst thing that can happen to him is a headache when he wakes up." But that wasn't Gnaeus' fault. The spell hit him on the head because he was being a good little Gryffindor.

He then turned away from the Hufflepuff and addressed the entire group of students

"You're all correct. The spell I used was the Stunning Spell, but I cast it nonverbally, so Miss Flores wouldn't know." Not that she needed to because she had been instructed to use the Shield Charm, but he wanted to prove the point that the Shield Charm was worth all the practice.

"Yes, yes, and yes. Very good!" He said and nodded to all the students who suggested the correct answers. "Wand movement, incantation, and appearance are the three ways in which you can identify a spell before it hits you. Effect can also identify a spell but that might be just a tad too late." He chuckled.

Oh, there was a student danging upside down in midair next to him and he had completely forgotten about him for a second. "Moving on. Some spells can be used to counter or nullify other spells more effectively than the Shield Charm. These are known Counter Spells. For example, if your opponent casts the Fire Producing Charm, Incendio, or the Blasting Curse, Confringo, you can protect yourself with the Shield Charm, but you can also use the Water Producing Charm, Aguamenti, or the Freezing Charm, Glacius, to put out the fire." That was a whole lot of spells, so he paused for a moment and let it all sink in.

After a brief moment, he continued. "Take Mister Carter, for example." He said poking the Gryffindor boy with his wand. Yep, still unconscious. "He has been knocked out by the Stunning Spell. Does anyone know what the counter for the Stunning Spell is? What other spells do you know that can work as Counter Spells?" This question required a bit of creativity; there was no right answer.

Giving Josh a sad look, and not feeling completely settled about leaving him in the condition he was in...Marilyn raised her hand, "Ennervate?"

Granger1814 10-28-2011 03:37 AM

Kourtney's hand shot up. "I believe...rennervate is the counter spell." She answered. "As for others...couldn't an anti-jinx be considered a counter-spell?"

MainEventMan 10-28-2011 03:38 AM

Is it a demonstration?

hjhm 10-28-2011 03:41 AM

Jonathan looked at Josh still collapsed. He should be really put into the hospital wing for A LOT of reasons. But since the professor thinks it's okay then, no arguments there.

So counter spell for Stunning spell. Jonathan had used it once so it's probably what the professor is looking or. He raised his hand to answer "Uhmmm... the ennervate is one of the counter-spell to the Stunning spell" although the shield charm can also be considered as a counter spell to almost anything.

There are tons of counter-spells, one should only know where to use such spells. "levicorpus' counter spell is the Liberacorpus..." is it correct?

slytherus 10-28-2011 08:56 AM

Aiden chuckles as the man pokes the unconscious boy like he was a cat or something. How amusing. To answer Mr. Spenser's question, she raises her hand. "Ennervate would be the counter-spell for the Stunning Spell," she pauses before moving to the next question. "If I'm not mistaken... Vipera Evanesca is the counter-spell for Serpensortia."

Roselyn 10-28-2011 09:55 AM

Oh Merlin...

Once the spell hit her shield, Evelyn dropped it and stared at Josh. Was he...was he even conscious?! Apparently not. And Mr. Spenser dude wasn't going to do anything about it, was he? Nope. He wasn't. Oh Josh. Quite frankly, Evelyn didn't want him to be conscious, only to realize that he was now dangling in the air like a piņata for everyone to stare at. Nodding somewhat, mouth agate slightly, she walked back down from the stage and towards her space in the back of the group, her gaze never leaving the Gryffindor boy.

Tilting her head to the side somewhat as she leaned against the wall again, arms crossed like usual, the way Josh hung there was...well it was hard to look away; much less even pay attention to what was being said. Crossing her arms a little tighter, she snapped her mouth shut and finally payed attention to the lesson. Not without her gaze flickering over to...Josh...every now and then though. Perhaps someone SHOULD wake him up...

Stare.

OH WAIT! She knew spells. Yup. Counter spells. Don't stare at the dangling boy! "Reverto is a counter spell for...a variety of spells." At least she learned one thing in transfiguration class.

Magical Soul 10-28-2011 03:33 PM

HE POKED THE CORPSE! Louisa's eyes widened even more when the short man so coldly poked the Carter corpse yes, the girl started thinking it was a corpse HOW COULD HE? She frowned and crossed her arms in disapproval.

Counter spell for stunning spell? Heh. She didn't know the details of a stunning spell in the first place and only got hit by one last club meeting, never casted or tried to cast one. Her answer would go with Jonathan's if she had to pick.

RandomRaven 10-28-2011 03:46 PM

"It was Ennervate or Rennervate? I forgot which one." Raven answered the question.
and... The other counter spell.

"Other examples is.. Banishing charm. Depulso. is a counter spell for Accio, the summoning charm."

Starbreeze 10-28-2011 04:01 PM

Eino knew one spell that was used quite often by students when practicing in Charms class, so he was surprised no one had mentioned it yet. He looked from the dangling body to the professor then raised his hand. "There are the spells Finite and Finite Incantatem, which can counter a charm, a jinx, or a hex. Finite works for a specific object and Finite Incantatem will affect all objects within an area." Admittedly, Eino never thought about using these two spells in duels but now they seemed quite appropriate for it, and very useful.

"Correct! Vipera Evanesca is the ideal counter spell for Serpensortia, but Evanesco alone is also considered a counter spell, which can work against a wide variety of spells. Very good."

He wasn't.

"Precisely! While Evanesco will make something that has been conjured vanish, Reverto will turn something that has been transfigured into its original form."

and... The other counter spell.

"Other examples is.. Banishing charm. Depulso. is a counter spell for Accio, the summoning charm."

"Very good! The Banishing Charm can also be used to send away unwanted objects that weren't previously summoned by the caster, so keep this spell in mind."

Finite works for a specific object and Finite Incantatem will affect all objects within an area." Admittedly, Eino never thought about using these two spells in duels but now they seemed quite appropriate for it, and very useful.

"Finite and Finite Incantatem are very important, too. Good, good."

Moving on...

"Rennervate is the Counter Spell for the Stunning Spell, and it will bring stunned individuals back to consciousness." The man then set the Gryffindor boy down on the stage carefully and with a twirl of his wand he uttered the incantation. "Rennervate." The tip of Gnaeus' wand began to emit a dim white light and almost immediately the boy began to open his eyes and wake up. "That should do it." He said, flicked his wand, then tucked it back into his pocket to help the boy up.

"Now, today you will be dueling without the use of the Shield Charm. Instead, you will use Counter Spells. Most of you mentioned some useful spells, so keep those in mind. However, you failed to mention that most spells can serve as counter spells, too. For example, you can respond to a Stunning Spell with the same spell. This will work as long as you and your opponent don't have wands with the same core.

But that's not as fun, so today I want you to duel using your creativity. You may not use Dark Magic, but other than that anything goes. Be creative in attacking your opponent as well as defending yourself. Pay close attention to their wand movement, incantation, and the appearance of the spell. Pick a partner, preferably someone from the same year as you, but if you can't find someone of the same age someone a bit younger or older won't make a significant difference. Also, make sure your opponent doesn't have the same wand core as you. Most importantly, don't go too easy on each other. Questions?"

---

OOC: Okay, time to practice. You have been instructed to be creative, so this means you can do just about anything with HP canon spells as well as SS canon spells.

For example, use Serpensortia, Avis, Avifors, Lapifors, Papilio, Dragonifors (that's what the dragon statues are for) with Oppugno to sic some animals on your opponent. In response, you can use Fera Verto to transfigure the animals into whatever you concentrate on, Reverto to turn them back to their original state, or Evanesco to vanish them.

You can use Fire related spells to attempt to burn your opponent and in response you can cast Water spells. Use Glisseo to make them slip up and fall, and counter the charm with Finite.

Have fun using the Bestiar Charm. You can transfigure their eyes into bat eyes so they can't see because it's light, their arms into wings so they can't hold onto their wands, etc.

There's Incarcifors, Lentesco, Shrowan, Melofors, Densaugeo, Ventus, Muffliato, and so on. There are a million things you can do.

You are expected to get some minor injuries because we will be learning some Healing Spells later, but only MINOR INJURIES. A small burn, a broken finger or nose, small cuts are all acceptable. Don't die, and don't do anything that would require immediate medical help.

Anyone?

Oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh................. Aiden could feel her spine tingling with excitement now. Using counter-spells instead of the Shield Charm sounds more adventurous. She looks around the room for someone to practice with. Hopefully no one way too old especially Evelyn. The Head Girl scared her off after the try outs they had. She is way too good!

Need a partner ^_^

Victoria listened intently to the Dueling teacher. Hmm...Stunning Spells instead of the Shield Charm? Victoria like that idea, she prefered stunning charms anyways.

Looks like they'll have to find a partner. Victoria searched around the room, looking for a good partner to partner up. She doesn't want a really young student, because then she'll have to go easy on them. Victoria rather have challenges. "I'll be anyone's partner if anyone needs one..." Victoria said outloud.

Okay, they need to practice in partner. Raven looked for a suitable, maybe a first or second year. She saw a girl.

"Mind if I be your partner?" asked Raven. The girl looked familiar to her. But, who??

Louisa watched the reviving process very carefully and almost sighed when the 'corpse' was not a 'corpse' anymore. Her eyes were glued to the short Professor quickly as he explained today's club meeting objective.

... counter spell dueling. Not bad, there was only one pitfall to this which was being a fourth year and casting pathetic spells, the more advanced took more concentration time if she wanted to cast any.

Anyway it wouldn't hurt to look for a close aged partner, right? Louisa looked around for the 'suitable' partner.

Good. Her opponent casted a silencing charm and now, Raven couldn't give a voice. Since she was a first year, she couldn't casted any non-verbal spell..

AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! she grumbled in her mind.

Jesifur stood apart from the group and waved her arms.

"Anyone want to partner with me? First Year looking for a partner."

Hopefully someone would want to be her partner. She had been quiet before because of all the note taking. He was really going over a lot this time. There was too much to remember without writing it down!

The second year will never go easy on her opponents especially when it comes to duelling. There was no expression of satisfaction on her pale face. Even her grey eyes were lightless. However since she is duelling with a first year and furthermore, a housemate, Aiden won't use go so hard on her until the other girl adjusts herself to the duel.

With the speed, she makes a quick twirling movement with her wand. "Expelliarmus," she murmurs aiming at the other girl's wand hand. Thanks to Captain Bennett's teaching last term, Aiden's Disarming Charm has improved a milestone.

After the man's instructions, Eino scanned the room, searching for someone his own age. It wasn't long until he saw Louisa, a fellow Ravenclaw who happened to be the same year as him. "Hello, Louisa" He said after making his way across the room towards her. "Do you need a partner?" He had watched her duel last time and he had to admit he was a little nervous to practice with her, but hopefully he wouldn't make a fool of himself. He was very excited to be able to use random spells to duel, spells he had never thought would be useful for duels.

"Hi!" She grinned at Eino enthusiastically - which was probably the first time she did that to him but he moved from a fellow Ravenclaw to a friend, in Louisa's book that is. "Yeah, sure. I was just looking for one." She took her wand out and moved to the side a bit, then faced the boy and walked backward a few steps. Standing erect and meeting his eyes seriously, the girl bowed. Oh yeah she was about to do a professional duel.

The second she stood back up again her wand was moving and she called out, "Depulso!" That should shove the boy backward... probably.

...it was weird that her first reaction to him as a friend was Depulso. Heh.

At one moment the girl was smiling at him, and the next, without warning, she draws her wand and uses the Banishing Charm. Quickly, he pulled out his own wand pointed it at the girl. However, as she cast the Banishing Charm, he point his wand at his feet and say "Lentesco." He wasn't exactly sure how to make himself not be sent away, other than to gluing his own shoes to the ground. This didn't necessarily stop her spell, and he still could feel an ominous force pushing him backwards. But only his feet were secure, so in a struggle fight the spell with the rest of his body he was pushed down and fell on his bottom.

When the spell's effect wore off, he pointed his wand at the girl, still sitting on his aching bottom, and uttered "Steleus," while pointing directly at her nose, with the intention of making her sneeze uncontrollably. That should give him some time to unglue his shoes and get back up on his feet... if it worked.

Gnaeus gestured the Slytherin to the Hufflepuff, then the Hufflepuff to the Slytherin, like he was introducing them to each other nonverbally. He would probably scare them if he spoke, but he did smile at them. "Have a go at it." He said and nodded.

The old man then proceeded to pace around the room, carefully watching as the students duel. It was only a few months until the end of the year and he still had to choose a student from each house to help him in the future. They weren't just dueling to spend the time. Eventually, there would be tournaments and tournaments need Dueling Leaders to organize and conduct them, and he was looking for the best duelists for that job. Hmmm...

OOC: Quick, but important note. Please remember to RP your characters intention only. The effect of your spell should be roleplayed by the other person. Do not RP someone else's character. Also, please try to be realistic with the spells your character should know. You're not trying to knock out your opponent, just finding creative ways to disarm him or her. This also applies to the recipient, your character shouldn't successfully block or counter every single spell.

Merlin's beard... Her opponent was so cruel. Raven took her wand and tried to casted a spell.

"STUPEFY!!!"

Kurumi glanced around the room looking for someone to partner with. Her eyes fell on Jonathan, but she wasn't sure he would want to be partners with her for this sort of activity. He had mentioned before that he couldn't bring himself to point a wand in her direction - which was really sweet of him, but she could take care of herself if need be.

She continued to look around the room for a partner although she wouldn't object to being partners with the Slytherin if he wanted

Was Selina here? She was always good to partner up with.

Lockhartian 10-30-2011 07:08 AM

Patrice / Arya

The first thing that was on Treyen's mind as soon as Mr. Spenser mentioned finding a partner was...to find Vashti, of course, because up until now he'd practiced with her. It was only obvious that that was the other student he was going to look for.

Yet...was practicing this dueling thing with the same person some sort of improvement? No, that's why he 'Pssst' at Arya, "Hey, Arya, want to partner up with me?" the Hufflepuff was still giving his Co-Prefect a choice...but it would be incredibly fun to practice with her, right?

Incredibly fun, indeed.

What. Professor Awesome-in-Duelling matched her with another First Year, but in Hufflepuff. Katrina regrets it but she went anyway.

Ah! So, the first year was trying to knock her out now, she smirks. Not much to worry since a first year couldn't possibly throw her across the room. That was the reason why she avoided partnering up with older students. It is the matter of pride. Nevertheless, one should not look down on the opponent. Hand with wand straight in front of her, Aiden gazed seriously at the incoming Stunning Spell as she waited for the perfect timing to counter it.

"Finite," she muttered while making a sweeping motion with her whole arm towards the incoming red light, dissolving the spell as it was about to hit her. Now, it's her turn to attack. Instead of aiming at the younger girl, Aiden points her wand on the floor where the other girl was standing on.

"Glisseo," she muttered, but her voice was louder than before. This spell has always been one of her favourites to practice... And pull pranks.

...until she was hit by a spell out of the blue. "ACHU!" The girl started sneezing, her head snapping forward with every squeak-like sneeze. "Del-ACHU-etrius," One last big sneeze, spits flying all over, and then the spell was finished... or stopped more like it.

Louisa rubbed her teary eyes and smirked at Eino, sniffing, before she spoke loudly, "Tarantallegra!" Let's see Eino's dancing skills. Heh.
