As you enter the astronomy classroom you'll notice that the room has been re arranged to make room in front of the windows for telescope gazing. The class is held at midnight. The desks are grouped two and two just like in the previous years. On each desk there is a piece of parchment.
Up at the front of the classroom Professor Roslund is sitting in his chair, and is lazily flipping through/ reading the latest issue of the daily prophet. Behind him on the blackboard a message is written.
Quote:
Please write your name, year and house on the parchment. Each parchment is charmed to turn into a name plate when you are finished.

Ooo, I know this one! Both hands shot into the air again as Keefer eagerly awaited the Professor's attention. "You mean our solar system? Mercury, Venus, our own Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus. Pluto used to be considered a planet, but it got demoted years ago to be a dwarf planet with Ceres, Eris, and others."
Keefer still thought of Pluto as a planet. The poor thing, getting disregarded like that!

Uh-oh. Comets. She likee them. Though Beatrice isn't very fond of Astronomy, she was interested in comets and was hoping they would tackle that.
However, her expectations went down when the Professor had asked them all about planets. Oh well, she was a student and needs to follow instructions from the teacher. She shifted on her seat and raised her hand, "Professor, there are currently eight planets in the universe. Mars, Mercury, Earth, Venus, Jupiter, Neptune, Saturn, and Uranus." she answered. But that was definitely not on the correct order.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Sneaking a peek at his lesson plan Edvard continued after a moment. "Most of you have talked about planets. Can anyone name the planets in the solar system?"
"YES THAT!" Daichi exclaimed with a clap of his hands when the Professor brought up Constel...constell...wait what was it again..? He stared for a moment before shrugging his shoulders and leaned back in his chair.
He leaned back forward and rested his chin in both his hands and slipped one hand up at the next question. "There are eight planets in our solar system" he said as he tried to remember what he had read over the summer. "Mercury" he held one finger in the air. "Venus" two fingers. "Eh..Mars?" three fingers and now he was hungry for that muggle candy... "jupiter" fourth finger came up. "Saturday..no eh..Satorno...i think." he thought for a moment while biting his lower lip and raised his hand with the four fingers in the air again. "Uranus and Neptune!~"
He looked proud at his answer and smiled broadly. But then he looked at his fingers and saw only seven fingers "Earth?" he suddenly said and looked clueless because he wasn't sure if he was right.
Her eyes were half closed until Professor Roslund asks another question. "Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. I'm not sure whether Pluto would still be considered as a planet," answered Aiden after putting up a hand. Yawns.
Erin raised her hand and said, "There would be 8 major planets in the solar system, Professor," she paused for a split second, she'd recited this also at her Muggle school. "Starting from the inner ones would be Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune. There are also Ceres, Eris, Makemake and Haumea together with Pluto are called dwarf planets. "

Raven raised her hand up and answer the question.
"There are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and.. I'm not sure Pluto still called a planet in our solar system."
"Oh,oh!" Michelle raised her hand, excited to share the names of the planet.
"It's My Very Educated Mother Just Sent Us Nine Portkeys! Or Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus Neptune and Pluto!" she recited from memory.
Louisa nodded her head as the teacher explained more about Astronomy. At his next question, she raised her hand just as enthusiastically as before, "There nine planets; The Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune." Those were the planets, "There are more than just planets in the solar system though like asteroids and comets. Right?"

Oh.
Not a science. She'll have to keep that in mind.
At least the good part was that professor Roslund didn't get mad or anything, since most of the professors seemed to like to take points around there.
Anyway. Back to his question. "There's Pluto," her favourite, "even though it is not exactly considered a planet," more like a tiny planet, but it was still her favourite. "Neptune," Nora went on, still with her hand in the air, but she eventually let it fall back down, "Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Earth, Venus and Mercury."
And yes, she knew she started with the last one, but she did that on purpose, since it was her favourite. Hehe.

All the planets?
They have to enumerate all of it? Jonathan barely knows 5. This is quite a problem. He did read an astronomy book before. The most basic knowledge about it is knowing all the planets. Well, now that he is recalling it, he thinks he can remember it in a way but he's not completely sure of it.
In a random guess, Jonathan answered "Mars... Neptune...uhmmm... Jupiter." that's the three planets he had memorized. "Sa--saturn? Venus... Pluto" he wasn't sure if that were correct. He looked down this time. What else? Was he still missing more or has he said it all? "Mer" yeah, there is a 'mer' something too. "Mercury and Uranus?" he smiled and of course the most obvious answer of all, which he failed to say in the first place..."EARTH"
Was there still more? Jonathan can't seem to remember more of it. How many planets are there again?
Being pretty sure of this one, Ashley raised his hand. He wasn't sure if he was supposed to just say one, or all of them, so he went with all of them. "The planets are mercury, venus, earth, mars, jupiter, saturn, uranus and neptune. There used to be pluto, but it got demoted. Also, there might be more planets, but they haven't been discovered yet."
Well, he had read that somewhere.
Moooooooo. :) || Have a supermegafoxyawesomehot Christmas.
Yes! Another easy question! Jenny smiled as her hand went straight into the air. This was going to be a fun class...
"There's Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars..." Here, Jenny paused to take a deep breath. "...Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune." She nodded. "And then there are the dwarf planets in the solar system, such as Pluto." Jenny added hastily.
Name the planets, huh? She raised her hand and answered Well, there's Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto isn't really considered a planet anymore, well, more like a dwarf planet.

The what? Planets? Okay, it's just the solar system. Relax, Ellie.
Okay. So the SUN overheated a thermometer and it exploded Mercury all over. Venus and Mars were fighting over Earth because it was in between. Jupiter didn't like the noise and waved his three balled weapon as a message to the sun. The balls read. S.U.N. Then, there's little Pluto, the dog, chasing after a ball.
Hand in the air, she answered. "There are 8 planets in the solar system, professor. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. There were 9 in 2006, but Pluto was demoted to a dwarf planet."
Then she lowered her hand, very proud of her answer.
Adanna's hand shot up. She'd been in a daydream-esque daze up until this point, soaking up the atmosphere and information. "In order from the sun it's Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Some still count Pluto, even though it's not technically a planet anymore. There's some sort of sentence to help remember the order of the planets, but I don't recall what it is. Quite ironic, acutally." This last part was said a bit under her breath. Well, it was a bit funny, actually. Forgetting something to help you remember? Typical for Adanna, really.
Kaiya's hand shot up in the air. It's a good thing Kaiya is into planets, she could name every single one. " Well, proffessor, There are 8 planets. There is Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Pluto was a planet until 2006, when it was caterogized as a dwarf planet." Kaiya answered.
See? This was the easiest class in Hogwarts. That's why Nikolas loved it.
Name the planets. Again an easy question, he wasn't sleepy anymore and all his attention turned to the class because Astronomy was now...his favorite class. Hehe. But everyone already named the planets and repeating it again was boring. Instead he said "Besides the planets that have been mentioned, there are also dwarf planets like Pluto" but for Nikolas, Pluto was still part of the Solar System not matter what they said.
Riiight- I know I read about planets and stuff in some book..., Gwendolyn thought, not remembering that she had only picked the Astronomy book in the library, checked out its cover and then placed it back. 'There's... Earth...', the second year started saying. Duh- that was so obvious! Mars. Venus, Saturn... uh... what else?, the girl thought. Now- what was their order?U-huh!, she finally remembered! I know there was a thing someone told me about how to remember the names of the planets... that sentance with the first letters of each word- 'My Very Easy Method Just Speeds Up Naming Planets' Something like that... So...'I mean...Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and maybe also Pluto?', the girl finally said.
Planets of Solar System... Phew! That was an easy question for now...
Ira raised her hand and answered, "The planets in order from the sun are, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.. There is also a dwarf planet called Pluto beyond Neptune, but it is not included in the list of main planets"
Satisfied with her answer Ira sat down and waited for the lecture to continue

Well, since EVERYONE had managed to spew out replies before her - Ryden MIIIIGHT have been not concentrating for a moment there, just a tad - she felt very silly raising her hand and answering as well. But she wanted to show the professor that she knew them too. She DID.
"There are eight planets in our solar system, professor," Ryden said, her hand raised as she counted them off in her head. "In the order from closest to the sun to the furthest; Mercury, Venus, Mars, our Earth - those are the inner planets - then Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Pluto, the body after Neptune and furthest from the sun, used to be a planet about seventy years ago, until they decided it didn't meet the criteria," the blond stated, EYING those ones who seemed to not know. It had been SUCH a long time ago! Psht.

Eino raised his hand. "Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are the eight planets, but aren't other celestial bodies, like Pluto, considered to be Dwarf Planets?" So did that mean it was a planet, but a tiny planet, or half a planet? He wasn't entirely sure if it was solely its size that classified it as a Dwarf planet, but it could also be other criteria. Hopefully the professor didn't mind the question, he hadn't even planned on asking it just kind of came out.
Blink! Turning towards the Ravenclaw Quidditch Captain Professor Roslund said "Yes it is a school subject." he was totally thrown off guard by the claws answer.
Shaking his head Professor Roslund said "As the majority has said Astronomy is the study of celestial objects such as planets, stars, star clusters, nebulas and galaxys and phenomena that has its origins outside Earth’s atmosphere."
"Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences and people have been studying the night sky for several thousands of years it began with the Babylonians, Greeks and Mayans or really any of the early civilizations.”

BEAM.
Yes, she was TOTALLY going to pass Astronomy this term. The class and the OWL. How had she not realized before now how easy it was?
And another easy question. "Earth's a planet. That's the one we live on." In case the pretty Professor didn't know.

Thea grinned at Daichi, as he gave his answer next to her. Ohhh, the fingers were going! She tried not to giggle, but mimed clapping her hands once he had done. Bless.
She smiled at the professor. Phew. Thea had been happy with that answer. Now for another one. Yep, she was probably going to give the same answer as everyone else but ah well. ' Mercury, Mars, Earth, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus and Pluto!' Aaand breathe! That probably wasn't the correct order but he hadn't said anything about the order..
