I am part of the sun, as my eye is part of me.

You can see this inscribed, in small, silver letters, along the round knocker of the dark door - if you look closely. Step inside, and find that Davina Markovic's office is a circular chamber, carpeted and with a huge window - always thrown open - that offers a spectacular view of the grounds, and portions of the school's towers and turrets.

Inscribed on the window-sill that protrudes outwards - in small, silver letters that are only visible if you go up to the window, and peek outside - are the words: That I am part of the earth my feet know perfectly, and my blood is part of the sea.

To the left, is a tall bookshelf, elegant, clearly old, and greater in width, than in height. The books it encompasses are stacked in perfect order, by alphabet and then size. Next to this item of furniture is a beautiful mantelpiece - huge-sized runes scattered across most of it - that sports two goldfishes, in a goldfish-shaped bowl. Sometimes, the top of the mantelpiece catches the light that pours in from the window; and these words light up, inscribed in tiny letters along its curve:

There is not any part of me that is alone and absolute, except my mind.

The rest of the office space is taken up by a large desk, an antique piece that has more drawers-within-drawers, and compartments-within-compartment, than you - or Davina herself - can count. Behind it, is a high-backed, deep black chair; in front, two, smaller ones. Davina, seated behind the desk, can read the following words, stamped on the dark edge:

... and we shall find that the mind has no existence by itself -- it is only the glitter of the sun on the surfaces of the water.

Rubiey stood outside Professor Markovic's ofice, admiring the kocker on the door. She had no clue what that meant, but it sounded amazing. She wanted to meet all of the Professors before she took all of the classes. She was amazed at the idea of Ancient Runes, her friend Trixie had told her how good it was, so what would be better tan meeting the Professor before taking the class. She knocked twice, then waited with baited breath.

Seated behind the desk, Di looked up at the knock. Or knocks, to be more precise. It seemed like someone had found her office, already. Ah well. Better sooner than later, after all.

"Please come in," she said gently, and the office door swung open to allow whoever stood on the other side, entry.

Rubiey stood, astounded as the door swung open of its own accord. Wow. She hesitantly stepped over the threshold, and saw Professor Markovic behind the desk. She closed the door, took a deep breath and turned around. "Hello, Professor Markovic. My name is Rubiey O'Rielly, I'm a Gryffindor First Year. I just wanted to come around and introduce myself to all of the Professors; I didn't want to disturb you all during the feast. I'm really looking forward to your lesson. "I look forward to that," Di said, truthfully. If only all students could be like this - polite and well-behaved. But Di had taught long enough, to know that was no more than wishful thinking.

"Have a good day, Miss O'Rielly." She smiled, a small but friendly smile, as the girl turned to leave.

Lori was making her rounds that day, she was intending to introduce herself to the new teachers of the term, and possibly visit old ones. Introduce herself. What did that mean? She had never thought telling someone your name was reeeeally introducing yourself, that was more making them aware of you.

With a basket laden with treasure boxes, Lori had decided that she would give them each a gift, and ask if they needed any help with anything. Helping was fun, anyway.

Knocking her hand lightly on the door of the Ancient Runes Professor's office, Lorelai waited, silently.

Oooh, YAY!

Opening the door, quietly Lori smiled at the Professor in the room. "Hey Professor! I er... brought you this treat box thing. It has cookies in it, and a few chocolates, and a few other tidbits, I can't remember what now. Just to say welcome, really." Giving the Professor yet another smile, as she inched further into the room, Lori pulled one of the treat chests out of the basket, and handed it to her.

"I'm Lorelai Bristol, by the way. Hufflepuff Prefect."

Sapphinelle happily knocked on the door of the Ancient Runes Professor's office, she was excited to take everything but she was a bit nervous about Ancient Runes, she had heard it wasn't the easiest subject.

But according to everyone else, she was very good with a wand and was very smart.

Ought she to appreciate such an informal gesture, especially on her first day back? Di decided to let the matter pass, this one time. "Thank you, Miss Bristol," she said, kindly. "That seems thoughtful of you."

Ah, a Prefect. That meant good behaviour. Di relaxed, inwardly. "I'm sure it will be a pleasure to have you in my class, Miss Bristol... that is, if you do take my class." She smiled, slightly.

Sapphinelle heard the soothing voice of the Ancient Runes Professor and gracefully
glided inside, politely waiting for her turn to speak.
After the encounter with the Potions Professor, she decided to be of the utter up-tightness and politeness. She hated not being her bubbly self, but it was for the Professor's sake. She didn't want to come across as rude, even though it wasn't on purpose.

Davina looked up and, noticing that the new arrival seemed quite young - a first or second year, most likely - allowed her lips to form into a pleasant smile.

"Do have a seat, Miss -?"

Emily walked to the door of the ancient runes classroom. This was her first year taking ancient runes, but she had studied ancient runes before just not in a classroom setting. Emily thought it best to meet the teacher and talk to them about her previous training and how it could possibly effect her class work.

Emily turned the handle on the door and walked into the big circular room, which for lack of another word, was beautiful.

"Good day proffessor, My name is Emily Moonfield and This will be my first year taking Ancient Runes." Emily started, "however it is not my first time with ancient runes I spent all summer in a gypsy village learning divination and how to do rune-casting for divination purposes. I was wondering if my experience all summer would make my learning ancient runes here harder or easier?" Emily smiled, she had gotten out a ,moutful in only one breath.

Runes is quite a broad subject, and divination-via-runes is only one aspect of it. That said, if you have a good handle on that, it means you have a good basic knowledge of at least a few rune-sets; and there can be no doubt that that means you will have a definite edge over students who have yet to be introduced to the subject."

"The deeper you go into a subject - any subject - the more you will find there is to it; but good, solid facts and practice always help."

Emily smiled "Thanks proffessor." she said then pulled the rune bag from around herneck, "This is my heirloom rune set." Emily said, "It contains fehu, uruz, thurisaz, ansuz, raidho, kenaz, gebo, wunjo, hagalaz, nauthiz, isa, jera, eihwaz, perthro, algiz, sowilo, teiwaz, berkana, ehwaz, mannaz, laguz, ingwaz, dagaz, and othala." Emily said and at the end of it took in a long breath.

"I noticed that there were some runes in the school rune set that I did not recognize." Emily added.

"I'm just excited to be here! I'd never in a million years think that I'd be a witch here at Hogwarts, and talking to you! I've read about you. Such good work." she said with another warm smile. It really was amazing, being a muggle-born. Good thing she was very studious!
"Oooh, how was Hogwarts here 10 years ago? Have things changed much?" she asked happily, her french accent echoing around the room cheerfully.

"I'm here to help, Miss Moonfield," Davina said, cheerfully. Her eyes lit up, at the sight of the rune bag. The child carried it around? That meant a number of forces, at constant play. Of course, intent is important. Di decided not to reflect on that, right now, and instead nodded as the student listed the names of the runes her bag contained.

"It seems like you have the Elder Futhark, Miss Moonfield," Davina observed. "It is the most common rune-set studied, especially at an elementary level - such as at Hogwarts. There are others, of course, but the Elder Futhark, being the oldest, is often considered the most basic."

The child's brightness was infectious; Di found the corners of her mouth tugging further upwards. "Goes to show how feasible it is to expect the unexpected," she said. "I never thought I would come to Hogwarts at all, even as a teenager. But I did."

Hogwarts... Ten years ago. "I can tell you a secret, Miss Della." Di's eyes might have twinkled. Might. "I have had the honour of being taught by the current Deputy Headmaster." Of course, she had no idea if he actually remembered her. She had changed. Of course she had. Like Hogwarts, itself. Though perhaps, the latter had changed less than the former.

Sophia walked nervously up to the door. She was always nervous about meeting her professors, because she wanted to make a good impression. She knocked on the door, and she whistled while she waited for it to open. Acient Runes will definatly be one of her favorite subject. She had always loved the Muggle Indiana Jones movies, but he was not real.
