SPOILER!!: Professor Dragon *snuggle* Kurumi was about to explain to the seemingly calmer professor that she felt bad about squishy her leech and maybe should give its now flat remains a proper burial...but the woman probably wouldn't have any of that and would throw something at her. "Poor little flat leech," as she went back to her notes to add the next step. She then cleaned her supplies and began crushing her bicorn horn. When it was all nice and crushed, she put in on a spoon and approaching the professor very timidly. She was still feeling bad about the leech. "Professor, may I please have a phoenix tear?" she asked fidgeting her feet a little wondering if she should dare ask the next one. "What are you going to do with the po-, um, leech remains?" That wasn't too obvious, was it? SPOILER!!: more Droo! Hearing that last remark about this potion potentially killing the drinker made Kurumi want to faint. Did this lady take pleasure in freaking the living daylights out of all of them?! SPOILER!!: Kurumi's parchment |
Evan halted for a while as he thought on the answer. If without it this potion wouldn't work without a tear... then, he had to make a decision. He was either going to waste one more tear for such a stupid potion, or he would simply leave. Although staying would be better for his well-being, he just didn't want to waste phoenix tear on his behalf. It wasn't hard to guess the correct choice here. His heart started to beat faster with the decision he made: he'd leave, as he'd agreed to do before. Cleaning his working area, he returned the unused stuff and "Evanesco!"ed his half-potion. Then, packing his stuff, he simply and calmly said "I don't want to waste that tear, then," to the professor and walked through the open-door. The consequences he didn't want to think about, but he felt quite nice, actually, although his knees were shaky a little with the fear of Lafay. As he got out of the door, it dawned on him that with this rather rebellious action he could get a detention. Oh well. There were more important things than detention, and if he got lucky, he could always study the potion from books. |

"Alright. After you add the daisy root. You will take the sprigs of Fluxweed." She put on her gloves and her goggles and stirred the mixture with the sprigs both counter and clockwise 3 times. "After putting on your gloves and goggles. Stir the mixture with the sprigs one going counter and the other going clockwise 3 times. You will notice the sprigs are both disintegrating into the potion... Then take the peppermint toads, and chocolate frog and put them in the mixture, using the liquorish wand to stir it." She said demonstrating. "And... the liquorish wand will melt inside. Lower the flame." She said and sent a bottle at each table. "Today I want to see you funnel your potion in a bottle and cork it. You should have a funnel in your potions kit. MAKE SURE IT IS CLEAN!" She said. |
SPOILER!!: professor Eeep! That was a lot of steps all at once. Kurumi flew to her parchment to write down everything that the professor had said before doing it all herself. SPOILER!!: Kurumi's parchment Few, she thought she had all that down. Looking over her notes and all the ingredients, this was, once again, not something she was looking forward to drinking. Once she had completed all the steps. She got out her bottle, cork, and funnel and checked them over at least ten times to make sure they were clean - casting the proper spells whenever she saw something that even remotely resembled dirt. |
Lila made sure she had her gloves and goggles on properly. Then she added the fluxweed sprigs stirring both counter and clockwise 3 times. Next she put the peppermint toads and chocolate frogs into the cauldron. She grabbed the liquorish wand and used it to stir until it had melted. Then she lowered the flame. Next she made sure the funnel, bottle, and cork were thoroughly clean. Finally she poured it into the bottle using the funnel and corked the bottle. |

SPOILER!!: Droo Not only does Lafay find it fit to ignore questions but she also doesn't seem to know what her ingredients list is either. "Why are we adding the knotgrass in only sliced when the list of ingredients calls for 2 Tbsp of Chopped knotgrass?" Yep, fair enough question and Marie still wasn't going to continue with the potion until she got her answer about this ingredient. Oh, and now she was onto the phoenix tears. Riiiight, lets just continue on with wasting something as valuable as phoenix tears for a stupid, meaningless lesson. Well Marie wasn't going to do it. Quote:
Holy Merlin, what had she just done? Walked out of a class that she was now protesting that's what she did. A class that was taught by her Head of House. A woman that could make her life miserable. Oh well, no turning back now. What was done was done and that's all there was to it. SPOILER!!: Marie's Journal |

Woah that was a whole lot a steps to just now she quickly jotted down notes SPOILER!!: Amy's parchment then she completed the steps carefully.and cleaned the funnel "Scourgify!" |
When it got to the point where he was meant to add the phoenix tear, Raiden had stopped. Completely, utterly, stopped. Here before him was a cauldron containing a potion perfectly brewed, just waiting for him to continue on. But he couldn't. The prefect stared at the animated liquid, an obvious look of sickness on his face. Phoenix tears were so rare... so precious. One or two could save a person's life. This magical substance that could cure a person swiftly dying from a basilisk's venom, that could close a wound that would kill a man before a healer could help... "It's a waste." The words were barely audible, his voice probably not reaching anyone not in his immediate vicinity. "Such a waste." He didn't move from his seat to get the phoenix tear, nor did he make any motions to get up and leave the class. The cauldron before him continued to simply exist, the half-finished potion still in its metallic stomach. He wouldn't do it. He couldn't. A slowly warming contempt began to boil in his stomach for those who would, and were, doing it. Did they not understand? Did they not care? People would DIE for these tears. People would DIE without them. He could have died. |
Ugh, Purple Head was distracting her with his ‘hurting other students’ ways and such. Didn’t she tell Professor Lafay that he hurt people!? Mmhmm! And look what he did… Almost knocked out that spazzy dude. Actually, it was a slight knock in the head, not hard enough to really knock someone out, but still! Pssh. Dangerous little Ravenclaw. Quote:
But, whatever the potion needed she supposed… How did people remember to do these things? Actually, how did people even know what to do in the potions in the first place to invent them!? Just messed around with stuff? Standing up, she went over to where the Professor was, keeping an eye on her spoon so she didn’t drop any of the crushed bicorn horn. Nope, she didn’t like dropping stuff. "Professor…ready for the phoenix tear." Phoenix tears. Hmm, were they really real? Or was she just saying that... :shifty: |

"Once you are finished with your potion, bring it here." She pulled out a box. "I will check them and grade you." She said as she sat in her chair and pulled out an empty glass jar from a drawer. "Jarod, Crocker. Start picking up each leech one by one and place them in this jar. And be careful, they are hungry." |
Vilhelmiina grabbed her potion bottle and walked up front. She placed it on the Professor's desk. "Here you are, Professor." |

Well, it looked real enough. Then again, Evelyn had never seen an actual phoenix tear in her life! This could have been a fake. Lafay fooled all of them! Or maybe it was real. Whatever. The Slytherin didn’t really care, even though it the debate about it had been rather interesting earlier in the lesson. "Thank you." She muttered, keeping her eyes on the spoon. In case it was real, she didn’t want to drop any of it, because that would be an utter fail and a mess up. Pfft. Messing up on a potion…never! Putting the spoon into the mix in her cauldron, she counted fifteen stirs clockwise as her eyes flickered over to Purple Head, seeing what he was up to. Quote:
Crushing the root with the handle of the silver knife, she chopped it after a moment or so and dropped the pieces into the cauldron. Wooaah, when was the last time she took notes?! Placing her knife down, the Slytherin quickly scribbled in her notebook the steps taken, and once again…eyes flickered over to the young Ravenclaw. Wasn’t knocking anymore cauldrons on people’s head was he? Quote:
Pffft. Sighing, she put her gloves back on and her stylish goggles, which looked more like scientific clear thick sunglasses before adding the fluxweed into the mixture. One counter-clockwise… Three clockwise…. And time for the candy to DISAPPEAR! Hopefully Destiny didn’t eat hers already. It was a shame they had to put peppermint toads in the potion. It was the only really chocolate thing she’d eat, and she wouldn’t be able to eat it! Dang. Placing both the peppermint toads and chocolate frog into the mixture, Evelyn picked up the They had to what? Funnel and cork it. Eh… Quote:
Cleaning the funnel (and making sure the bottle was clean too), she set it in the top of the bottle before pouring the potion into the bottle, making sure not to have the thing tip over as she did so. Wobble... Quiver... Tiiiiiippp…. EEP! Saved by the last second. Of course her cauldron made a nice THUD on the table, but at least she saved the bottle, the potion, and therefore…her grade. Eesh. Corking the top of the bottle, Evelyn stood up and moved to the front desk where Lafay was at, snickering along the way as Purple Head had to pick up leeches. Now, potion…put…into…BOX…and now she was done! Moving back to her table, she turned the flame off and finished the rest of her notes before glancing around. Or more importantly, making sure Purple Head was picking up those leeches. She didn’t want to see any being flung to her side either. |
Amy grabbed her potion bottle and happily walked to the front of the class and set the bottle on the desk "here you go professor" she said cheerfully, this was her second potion she'd Ever made so she was so happy! Yay! |

Next, she donned her goggles and gloves, and cleaned her stirrer. Dropping a sprig of fluxweed into the cauldron, she stirred it three times counter clockwise, and then stirred it 3 times in the other direction after dropping in the other sprig. Setting the stirrer down, she picked up the candy, and placed the two sweet amphibians and stirred the contents with the liquorish wand. She lowered the flame, and then cast scourgify on the bottle Lafay sent to the table, as well as on her funnel, and the cork. using the funnel, she Very, very carefully, poured the finished potion into her bottle, and placed the cork on it. hmm, wait. Did Lafay just say that they would not be drinking any of the potion? Yeah, that seemed fishy, and made Emmaleigh wonder if this was really a de-agin potion, of if it had really been Phoenix tears they had used. She picked up her bottle, and walked up to Lafay's desk. Giving the professor a tiny smile, she placed the bottle in the box. After she returned to her seat, she finished writing her notes. Text Cut: Emmaleigh's notes |
Arya continued to work on each step carefully. Adding each of her ingredients as needed and transcribing the steps in to her potions journal. The small girl was oblivious to all the commotion that was going on in the front of the classroom, too focused on her potion. Until it came time to add the phoenix tear. Adding that rare ingredient.....would be a waste since she didn't want to take the potion in the first place. Chewing her bottom lip softly, she stared at her potion, quill tapping on the table. No. She wouldn't be adding the tear. |
SPOILER!!: dragon lady! *luff* Eep! They were going to be graded right their on the spot?! With fumbling hands, but making sure that nothing spilled, Kurumi poured some of her potion into her bottle and could have sword she heard someone saying "Weeeeeeee!" as she did so. Creepy...very creepy.... Once her bottle was full, she corked it. Ew, was that still childish laugher she was hearing as the bottle swished a little while she walked to the front of the classroom? Definitely creepy...but at least it seemed like they were not going to have to drink it. She looked at Professor Lafay. "I hope this meets your standards, Professor," she said as politely and as confidently as she could before she added her bottle to the box. |
He hadn't expected her to address him, much less give him permission to vanish what he'd already done. He didn't need nor want her permission; he was going to vanish the half-done potion anyway. He wasn't about to bend his morals and finish it. He didn't care if he didn't get points for class, either. At least his conscience was clear. Could she say the same thing, after using these tears in such a wasteful manner? He'd never pegged her as one to care about others, but this was a step further than he could have imagined. Silently vanishing his potion and cleaning up his things with a flick of his wand, he simply watched the woman, expression indecipherable. Except for a hint of calm accusation in his eyes. He didn't need to observe the rest of the class. It wasn't like he hadn't been watching his father mix potions since he was a kid, or as if he hadn't helped and learned to do it himself. He wouldn't need to know how to make this potion. He would never in his life choose to do so. Not at the expense of something that could save someone else's life. |
Nessa cleaned her knife and crushed the daisy rootsthen cut them as instructed and then dropped it into the cauldron. She put on her gloves and goggles and began to stir with the sprigs of fluxweed and stirred the concoction first clockwise than counter clockwise three times. She watched as it disinagrated into nothing and she picked up her pepperment toad and choclate frog and placed them into the cauldron. Stirring with the liquorish wand and waiting for it to disinagrate before she lowered the flame. Picking up the bottle, her funnel making sure to clean it before Using it and she carefully poured the potion into the bottle and corked it. She turned to her notes and took down the last few steps. SPOILER!!: Nessa's notes She daddled her last notes and grabbed her potion and took it to the professor. "Here you go professor." she smiled. I hope she doesnt like im to nice you know like most firsties. She was tired of that but oh well. |
Ever poured the potion into the vile with shaky hands, she probably messed up in some way or another. Still grossed out by the leeches, it didn't help that apparently they were... Hungry. She took her potion and brought it up to the box. "Here you are, Professor," Ever said brightly. Ever-Lily felt slightly disappointed...secretly, she wanted to try the potion. Just to see what would happen. But whatever. |
Simon wasn't certain but the way Professor Lafay looked at him as he stood before her gave him the thought that he had dropped further into her bad graces. Josh is sooo gonna pay for that he mused to himself as the tear was given onto his spoon. "Thank you professor," he replied being his normal polite self not a stitch of buttering up as he returned to his place. Adding the tear and the powdered bicorn horn, Simon proceeded to catch up with the rest of the class. Careful to squish the daisy root a little before cutting, he added it once he was through. Then putting his gloves back on and adding the goggles over his eyes, he mirrored the professor's actions to a t not wanting to mess up anymore then he had already. Once the pepperment toads and chocolate frogs were added the the licorice wand used to stir before letting it melt, Simon reached down and lowered the flame. At mention of a funnel, he retrieved the one from his kit and upon inspection noticed it wasn't as clean as it could be. "Scorgify." he cast cleaning the reside out before slipping the nozzle end into the bottle. Carefully using his spoon, he slowly added potion into the funnel and let it enter the given bottle. When it was full, the Gryffindor boy removed the funnel and corked the filled bottle of potion properly before bringing it up to Professor Lafay so she could grade it. |

"So... let's answer the question that someone asked earlier... Who can tell me what purpose this potion may have?" She asked the class. |
