Lawson turned back to face the class, "As you can see there are many specialised fields of jobs just for your house." He pointed to the board, "They are only but a few. Please copy that down."

He waited for a few moments while the students copied down the list from the board. "Now moving on. Just as with their houses, muggles also have people to repair their cars when something goes wrong. And just as with house repairs there are different specialised areas for cars. Who can tell me the different types of muggle repair persons who work on cars?"

Selena copied down all the notes dutifully. She looked up and raised her hand. "There are the auto mechanics and transmission mechanics," Selena said. She thoght that was the right one. It was either that or she mixed it up with the other book.

Vashti again set to work writing down all the jobs on the board. Her hand was starting to cramp a bit from all the writing, but she wasn't going to complain. It really wasn't that much writing; she was just writing really quickly. After setting her quill down, she stretched her fingers and hand a bit, raising her other hand to answer the question. "There are people who need to fix the breaks and things like that on a car."

harrypottterbroadway 05-18-2010 10:18 PM

Keeley hurriedly scribbled down all the jobs on the board. There was a loooot! When she was fiinally done, she pondered the question for a bit. Hmm..... umm.... uhh.... she really hadn't had much to do with cars in Germany. But in New York, there were cab drivers. Did they work on cars? Not nescisarily. Umm.... who were those people that made cars look cool? "Umm... the people that design cars? The uh... I don't know. But they make new models and stuff."

Roselyn 05-18-2010 10:24 PM

Were they just going to go through a list of jobs the whole class? Well, it did say Muggle Employment, so Evelyn guessed that, that's what they were going to be doing. Ish.

"I think there are people that change the oil...or whatever in the... car. I forgot what they were called..." she said after quickly lowering her hand. Okay so she didn't memorize everything in her book, but at least, that's what it said. And her book was never wrong so far!! Especially what the machine thing was called. A car! Not a carp. Mwaha!

MoviegoerKinz 05-18-2010 10:44 PM

"Does a tire specialist count?" Rafe said as his hand bolted to the air. "The make sure the wheels work fine...like to have traction so the automobile doesn't slide and stuff in rain or snow?" Rafe raised an eyebrow. He had no idea if what he was saying made any sense.

Destiny 05-18-2010 10:52 PM

Eeeesh!

Destiny only knew how to pretend to be a muggle car, she didn't know anything else about them! "Someone can specialize in car windows..I guess." she said raising her hand.

To her, it was a good guess.

Kaytone 05-18-2010 11:56 PM

Cars? Kay had never rode in a car. What would there be to fix it. "Sir is there a person that fixes the exsawst thingy...Oh I don't know what they call it. The place where the smoke coming out at the back. The people who would fix that." Kay said not even sure if they did fix that. Cars smelled bad to her.

Abby scribbled down the list that the professor had put up on the board. As she did so, she listened to his next question. Cars, huh? She tried to think of something that the others hadn't mentioned yet. Clearly, there were a ton of muggle repair persons. But Abby couldn't help drawing a bit of a blank. Raising her hand slightly, she said, "Sir, there are muggles who work on seat belt replacements," she said. Yeah, it was a tiny part of a car. But still very important all the same.

"Maybe a bit of tangent, but in Muggle Car racing, they have Pit crews, they are like a team of Mechanics who change tyres, fill fuel tanks and ensure the engine is running efficiently." Patroclus thought it maybe a stretch, but most of the other uses of Mechanics had already be said.

Jason Potter Weasley 05-19-2010 01:59 AM

Rex raised his hand. Professor, there are men and women who could repair steroeos and also air-conditionong on cars. Rex hoped this answer is right.

Maxilocks 05-19-2010 02:10 AM

Gold raised a hand. "There are Front End Specialists," she offered. "Often, car-mechanics who may be able to service your car, in general, but have specialized in that area."

PatInTheHat 05-19-2010 02:21 AM

Arya raised her hand, "There are the people who....specialize in car tires." Atleast they changed the tires, so that had to count.

Mrs. Weasley 05-19-2010 02:36 AM

Sidney raises her hand. "Muggle cars and trucks run on both gasoline and a fuel they call diesel. The vehicles have different types of engines, so they require different mechanics. Diesel mechanics work exclusively on diesel engines."

CruppieMom89 05-19-2010 02:45 AM

Cadence decided to raise her hand when she didn't hear her answer said aloud. "Professor, body shop specialists. They repair detents in cars, repaint them if they're scratches... those sort of things," she said with a smile as she continued taking her notes.

Hermione J. Granger 05-19-2010 06:14 AM

Hermione finished writing down all of the jobs muggles did on the board and raised her hand. "Professor there are people that sell and buy used and new cars from muggles and sell them to other muggles for a similar price. They call them car salesman" said Hermione.

RachieRu 05-19-2010 06:21 AM

"Hmm...Isn't there like Emergency Mechanics?" Brody asked as she raised her hand. She was sure she'd heard someone muttering something like that. "Like....if someone's car had broken down on the road these people would come and see if they could fix the car. I think they had companies called like the AA or something." Which sounded funny to Brody because what did an A have to do with a car?

"Very good, very good. You all seem to know a bit about muggles and the kind of jobs they do. One point for each of you." Again Lawson went to the board and wrote up another list of jobs.

Quote:

* Automatic transmission specialist
* Automotive electrician
* Body makers
* Brake specialist
* Engine reconditioner / Builder
* Exhaust / Muffler repairer
* Heavy and Light Vehicle Mechanics
* Panel beating
* Radiator specialist
* Tire repairs
* Vehicle painting
* Vehicle trimming / Upholsterer
* Windscreen / Window repairer
"So there are just a few jobs in the motor vehicle repairs field. Now we have only scratched the surface of the muggle jobs out there and we will get to more in the future but we have come to the end of the lesson."

He turned to the board once again, "Once you have copied down that list I would like you to copy down the homework and then you may go."

Muggle Studies Homework 1

1. Name five muggle jobs that the magical world do not have.

2. What is a Cardiologist? And what do they do?

3. What is the function of an Electrician?

4. What does a Panel Beater do?

5. Pick a muggle job that is similar to a wizarding job and write a foot long essay (approx 2 -3 paragraphs) on the pros and cons of the muggle job you picked.

Homework is due Wednesday 2nd June 7pm GMT (2am EST).

This homework is worth 20 points.

Please PM your homework to (aussiegirl)

Also please bring to the next class a plan or instructions on how to build either a birdhouse, letterbox or small dog kennel.

Roselyn 05-19-2010 08:06 AM

They will be discussing more muggle jobs in the future? Awwwww...But she supposed this was better than actually doing them. Hehe.

Writing down the rest of the jobs in her notebook, she looked just in time to see the homework. Just. In. Time. *tear* What in the world was a cardiologist? Or a panel beater? She hadn't been paying attention THAT much! Perhaps her book had information on this stuff. Yes, tonight, she had a date with her book. Wonderful, wonderful book.

Writing down the homework, she packed everything up before standing up and stretching. Ugh! Long class. And it was like, only an hour long or so. Grabbing her bag, she smiled towards Destiny and Marie, and gave an even BIGGER smile to Professor Lawson (and even a giant wave goodbye) before heading out the door. To the library!!

Writing down the Homework, Kay started to pick up her things and putting them into her bag. Standing she thought this wasn't going to be easy for her. She would have to really think about it. "Thanks Professor Lawson. Class was great." She smiled. It was, Muggle Studies was one of her favorites. She just didn't gt it sometimes.

Walking over to Rex she sat down to wait for him. "Hi, How do you think class went?" She asked him. "Do you want to go do some homework or just do something?" She asked waitting for him and smiling at the others she knew in the class room.

Kate copied down everything, saved her things and approached the professor "Have a good day Professor. Nice lesson " She said smiling. Then she left.

PatInTheHat 05-19-2010 01:09 PM

Again she scribbled down more jobs as Lawson wrote them on the board. She didn't realize how many diffrent jobs there were just for working with cars. Just about to replace her stale gum for a fresh stick, she placed the gum back into her pocket when he announced that class was over. Writing down the homework, she shoved her papers into her backpack and slung the bag over her back. "See ya later, Sir Lawson." Sliding off her seat she ran out of the classroom.

iBeJenn 05-19-2010 02:59 PM

Selena copied down the rest of the notes then the homework. She sighed. Hogwarts had so much homework. She placed everything into her book bag and picked it up. "See you next time, Professor Lawson," Selena said with a slight wave before walking out of the classroom.

Sir_Spots 05-19-2010 03:02 PM

Theo was dissapointed that he didn't get a point for picking a muggle specialty for working on cars but, he'd only heard about cars in the news. He did know though that Wizard used cars also to travel around, but wizard cars were quite differrent than muggle cars, they moved much faster, seemed to never get caught in traffic, could hold many more wizards than the looked capable of from the outside. He'd even read about a 3 level purple bus that whirls around the countryside taking wizard anywhere they need to go and all you have to do to summon it is stick out your wand and wish for a ride.
He copied down all of the instructions for his homework and tucked the quill and paper in his backpack and headed out of the classroom, happy that he'd at least not embarrassed himself on his first day of wizarding school.
"Thank you Professor," he added, as he quickly left the room and headed of to his next class.

Destiny 05-19-2010 03:10 PM

Destiny's hand almost fell off.

Almost.

If Lawson wrote one more thing on that board that she had to copy down, she was going to be known as Destiny One Hand. She did not want to resort to a hand loss to FINALLY get a nickname. Throwing all her things in her bag, she stood up, shot Lawson with another quick peach sign and ran out the classroom.

Now..she had to find Evelyn and that muggle book of hers.
