Suddenly, the white curtain began to ripple a little, almost as if someone or something was trying to escape from it. A few seconds later, Professor Carlton merely pulled a tiny piece of it aside and edged her way into the room. Her hands and arms were a little wet, but with a few quick charms, the water just dried away in no time.

With a smile on her face---and no mention of the curtain---she greeted the class. "It's good to see so many of you back in class today. I have an exciting lesson planned, and...some mysterious surprises...but for now, let's begin the lesson with ideas about how charms can assist us while we're underwater. Which ones can you think of?" she asked, glancing around the class. "Just give me one, so your classmates can try and come up with some of their own. We'll likely have a lot of repeats in our ideas, but...try and come up with something that hasn't been suggested lots of times."

OOC: Class has now officially started. If you haven't already roleplayed your character coming into class, please just post your character as if he or she is already inside and seated.

If you can't think of a charm that someone else hasn't already said, feel free to suggest something already mentioned. That's perfectly fine, too.

TeamHermioneGranger 06-03-2010 09:03 PM

Maddie smiled and raised her hand
'The bubble head charm, Proffessor?' she said hopefully

Kris 06-03-2010 09:05 PM

Alex thought about it, "Impervius?" Alex asked raising her hand not sure if she pronouced it right.

iBeJenn 06-03-2010 09:06 PM

Selena shrugged. She didn't know much about it besides the bubblehead charm and Maddie has already said it. Of course thee was the transfiguration one... and gillyweed... but that was as much as she knew.

harrypottterbroadway 06-03-2010 09:09 PM

Keeley was always really excited to come to charms class. It was always so fun, and Professor Carlton was also pretty awesome. Today's lesson obviously had something to do with water... and, as always, she had an answer for the question. "What about the Impervious charm?" Hopefully they wouldn't have to be swimming. It was pretty embarassing that she didn't know how.

darlinggcdr13 06-03-2010 09:16 PM

Delilah raised her hand. "The bubble-head charm?" She said with a smile.

Roselyn 06-03-2010 09:20 PM

Bubble head charm...impervious... everything she thought of was already said! *scoff* She really needed to be more quicker. However, a small smile appeared on her face, almost like a smirk before raising her hand. "If you really wanted to, you could use the drought charm. Pretty much whatever the problem could be solved that way." she said, trying to make sure no laughs or giggles escaped her. Problem solved if there was no water!

DH Vixen 06-03-2010 09:23 PM

Mina thought for a few moments before raising her hand. "Would duro be helpful? I mean underwater things are rather soft and with with duro you could make them hard." she offered. She was definitely grasping for straws with the answer, but she was attempting to think outside the box and not go down the obvious route and all.

Destiny 06-03-2010 09:23 PM

MERLIN!

The white curtain..it was ALIVE!

Destiny was glad she was sitting in the back for once. When the curtain would start its attacking, it would EAT the people in front first! She didn't care, as long as Marie was one of the eaten..

Crud. The white curtain was not a monster, pffft, it was only the Professor coming out from behind it. And jumping out asking questions already. "You could use Relashio underwater. Makes the water hot." Or something like that..

It wasn't her fault she couldn't think properly. The white curtain had scared her!

Ivy Nienna 06-03-2010 09:26 PM

Scrunching her face up in concentration, Ivory thought back to the previous term and the spells they'd learned.

"Well maybe if you needed gills you could use Teras Verto on yourself to be able to breath underwater...?" She ended that on a question because at that moment she remembered that spell while useful was a form of transfiguration and she didn't know if it was relevant in this case.

Oh, she knew an answer to that so she raised her hand and responded, "Could you use protego totalum. I mean spells can't get through but niether can people and when the spell surrounds a person they can still breathe so I imagine if you used it around yourself and then walked in the water it would not touch you and you'll still have air in that little bubble", Herminny responded with a sheepish smile hoping her unique guess just may be right.

CruppieMom89 06-03-2010 09:38 PM

Cadence thought about this for a moment and tried to think of something other than a bubble head charm because she was pretty sure that's what just about everyone would say. Raising her hand, she answered, "What about impervius, Professor? If you have no choice but to go in the water, but you have things you don't want to get ruined if they wet?" she said with a smile.

GrapehSarah 06-03-2010 09:44 PM

Fallon sat in her favorite class of the day. When Professor Carlton asked for charms that could help underwater, she had to think really hard to remember some. Once she thought of one, she raised her hand. "You could use Impervius to keep yourself from getting wet." Fallon quickly realized that she hadn't been the first one to say that, but it was better than not answering at all.

PatInTheHat 06-03-2010 09:51 PM

The was a spider in the corner of the classroom that held Arya's attention, so much that she didn't notice to professor until she had spoken. Jumping slightly she turned her head at Carlton and tried to focus her attention.

This had taken so long that all the answers she had thought of were already given. Twirling her wand, she just listened to her classmates.

Expendable 06-03-2010 09:58 PM

C.J. leaned back in his desk once more not surprised by the answers that were being given around him, and of course in front of him.

Raising his hand lazily he realized he was actually very excited to see where this class would lead so of course it merited his attention.

"Maybe one could use a Placement Charm to hold some sort of breathing apparatus to their nose and mouth and use the Refilling Charm to continue filling it with air..?' It was a far fetched idea but hey he was trying to think outside the box here.

Snape631 06-03-2010 10:28 PM

Willow couldn't stop staring at this big white curtain. Considering the professor came out from it slightly wet and her first question was about underwater charms, she assumed it might be come kind of water tank or something. She was very excited if that was the case.

Willow raised her hand in answer to the question and said "Could you use a summoning charm like Accio to summon yourself a breathing apparatus like scuba gear or oxygen tank?"

Anna Banana 06-03-2010 10:34 PM

OOC: Participation points are given whether Lexi mentions that or not. ^_^

"The Bubble-Head Charm," Lexi repeated, She used her wand to write the name of the charm on the board as she talked. "Perfect..."

Ahh, Impervius. Lexi hadn't expected someone to suggest that so early on in the lesson, but she was happy to realize that this group probably really knew their charms. Or, at least, she could at assume they did by the early suggestion of Impervius. "Impervius is a great suggestion, too. Thank you," she said. The charmed chalk wrote Impervius on the board, too.

Lexi eyed Selena. It seemed like the girl had a suggestion in mind and was planning on mentioning it, but she never did end up actually sharing it. The professor smiled at the girl then moved on to the next student who'd made a suggestion.

"The Impervius Charm is perfect---for those who don't want to get wet that is," she replied. Hmm...it might be a pretty good idea to remind the class of this suggestion later on in the lesson.

Lexi's eye narrowed slightly as she caught the smirk-like smile on Evelyn's face. This...should be an interesting answer. After all, it did pretty much cause very mischievous looking expression. The professor laughed lightheartedly when the Drought Charm was brought up. "Yes, Miss Flores...that would pretty much solve any problems that may arise. Of course, if we were in large bodies of water, we'd have to be careful when using this charm," she remarked. "We wouldn't want to drain out the Pacific...or harm the animals." Unless the animals in question were grindylows, that is. "Good answer, though...unique." The charmed piece of chalk added Drought Charm to the board, as well.

"You're right, Miss Shepard. The spell was actually used right here at Hogwarts during a grindylow and mermen invasion several school years back. Those of you in at least in your fourth year will likely remember what I'm talking about," she said. Of course, this being Lexi's first year as a professor, she hadn't been here either, but someone had caught her up on all the latest happenings just after she was hired. Relashio was added to the board, as well.

"The Bubble-Head Charm...that's what today's lesson is geared toward. We'll talk about what it is, how it helps us, and then we'll cast the charm to...well, protect us from several things I've got in store," Lexi said, not quite ready to reveal the whole lesson just yet. "What can you tell me about this charm? Most of you are probably familiar with what it is and what it looks like, but...what else can you tell me?"

Lislchen 06-03-2010 10:35 PM

Okay, most of the things she had been thinking of had already been mentioned...plus things she had NOT been thinking of, like the Drought Charm. Snort. "Professor?" Nancy said while raising her hand before pausing slightly. She wasn't totally sure about her answer. "Maybe also the Hot-Air Charm could be useful so you're not like freezing to death underwater or something." Err...yes.

Oooh, and another question. What ELSE did she know about the Bubble-Head charm? WTH?! Oh noes, did that mean they were actually going to go underwater in this lesson? Hopefully it wouldn't be all creepily dark and just...Shudder. "Well, it's the most effective spell for breathing underwater?" Nancy more guessed that knew as she raised her hand to answer the question.

Kris 06-03-2010 10:37 PM

Alex raised her hand and spoke, "The Bubble-Head Charm causes a bubble to appear to the caster's head, it allows the person to breath underwater, it looks like a clear bubble unless it's casted wrong." Alex thought she was right, if she was wrong then she learned something then.

After taking a few quick notes in her notebook on the spells that were named, Vashti raised her hand. "Professor, it was used by Fleur Delacour and Cedric Diggory in the Second Task of the Triwizard Tournament in...1994, I think?" Was that the sort of thing Professor Carlton was looking for? Hmm...

Seeing his Professor, he said, "Good Morning Professor Carlton" and noded his head politely.

(^That was actually a little early, but very convinent........)

"Well" Nymphy said, raising his hand. "It can help prevent you from breathing in anything harmful, or even just smelly, in the air. Also, it looks like an upturned fish bowl...." he said, picturing it in his mind.

Roselyn 06-03-2010 10:47 PM

"Professor, is it true that it can protect your head from like...falling objects and such?" she asked after raising her hand and tapping the quill she had gotten out on her desk with the other. Wait, when did she take her quill out? Eh..

Buuut, thinking over what the Professor said about using caution with the drought charm, Evelyn decided that she was probably right. Harm animals. Professor Morgan...Lawson... would probably hunt her down if she hurt and animal. Don't want that!

Govoni 06-03-2010 10:57 PM

Falling objects?...Hmm.

Raising her hand, Marilyn added, "I'm curious...Would you say the Bubblehead charm could also be considered a gas mask, of sorts?"

Was there a glint in her green eyes as she asked this question? Prehaps...

So, if Marilyn could produce the bubblehead charm strong enough on herself, that nasty poisonous/toxic odor could be released in the dorm and she wouldn't personally be effected...

PatInTheHat 06-03-2010 10:59 PM

So now she really wanted to hold the spider, or alteast catch him so she could set him outside when class was over. She liked spiders, and now she was distracted again. Focusing quicker than before this time, she thought about the bubble head charm, one she had been hoping to learn ever since she read about it in her charms book. She raised her wand free hand. "The charm acts like...a scuba mask, but it covers more of your head and allows you to breath underwater or wherever there is a lack of fresh air. So if you were in a smoke filled room it would work just as well as if you were unfer water." Hmm. That gave her ideas.

Rosa Chispa Princessa 06-03-2010 11:16 PM

Herminny wanted to add a bit so she raised her hand and answered, "The bubblehead charm allows the caster to have a little bubble around the head of air that can be used underwater to breathe or just to breathe in any area the air is hazardous".
