It was crappy either. He had been having a really bad time for 5-6 months, and no one seemed to know or care. He felt slightly better about it though now that some time had passed and Marie issue happened, and could talk about it. Though, should he tell them? There was a good possiblity that they could be of the same opinion with his parents. Or worse, they'd laugh at him. He didn't think they know anything about football, let alone the term 'wonderkid'. But Ella's next question suprised him once again, no, twice again: 1) How come they were aware of his absence while he'd just met them; and 2) Did they know soccer? He guessed they were far more knowledgeable about him than he knew and his knowledge about them. Then, what harm could be there in telling them a rough story of what he'd gone through? Though, before telling them his last term, he had to correct a mistake. "First of all, it is football, not soccer." he said in a voice that suggested he was pretty annoyed with people calling it 'soccer'. "The term 'soccer' is only used in North America, where they call a violent and stupid game 'football', which you don't even touch with your foot!" He made a hand gesture that clearly showed he thought that their game was stupid and pointless. "And second of all, it definately was not a camp." He looked as if he was offended. "I played for a team. And not just a team, but the team of Liverpool Football Club." Yes, now there was pride and honour. Because not just everyone could be in the 'star' team.
Taking a deep breath, he started to tell. "I've always wanted to become a professional football player. I told my parents for the first time what I really wanted to become at Christmas. They agreed at first, must've thought I didn't have that ability... I went to Liverpool and talked to a youth trainer. He said I was too old to start from the beginning, but I told him I had been training 5 times a week, if not all days, and that I played at kids' team for 4 years. He appointed a week later to see me. It was time for returning back to school, which I didn't do, as you've realised, and waited excitedly for the appointment.
"So, long cut short: The trainer really liked me, and after a few weeks said to my parents that I could become really good if I kept training at that rate. Now that things got serious, my parents objected, claiming that they wouldn't let me become a simple Muggle footballer." There was clear sarcasm that showed he hated his parents now, and had a fairly low opinion of them. He paused. Had he thought it'd be easier to talk about this? Well, he'd been wrong. His whole body started to ache again as he remembered how he, for a while, thought he'd be playing alongside great names of great teams, like Drogba, Lampard, Torres... It was all a dream and past now, only in his memories.
Giving one bitter smile, he said his last sentence. "I was touted as a wonderkid, if you know that term. It's all gone now..." His voice was steady, but while taking a deep breath it shook and if they listened carefully, it was obvious that he could cry at any time. Though he wouldn't cry, he was better than that. He shrugged to show it was the end. It wasn't the end, but he wouldn't go deep in how they argued, how every member of the family talked to him and how he almost caught the house on fire, blew up his room and broke his uncle's broom into a hundred pieces. And also he wouldn't tell how he didn't say a word for a full week at home but only shouted, how he refused to study magic and burnt all of his books and broke his wand into two so that he would never do magic again, meanwhile still attending the trainings with great enthusiasm and being the star, having Rafael Benitez watch him for once. No, that'd be too much detail.
After sitting in silence for a few seconds, he smiled, though it more looked like he was in pain, and said "Guess I'm too problematic, eh?" They probably wouldn't want to see him again. Oh well. They wouldn't be the first that planned to avoid him. |
