Marilyn listened to the Ravenclaw chick carefully, her eyebrow scunching together in thought. "So, basically you have this cluster of ingredients and you have to find one or more other ingredients to render the indiviual components of the overall potion ineffective. Usually this slows, or stops, the effects...Since we aren't limited this to just poisons, yes? Even though with poisons, those most common can be cured with the bezoar stone." Marilyn averted her gaze from the Professor to the Ravenclaw girl. "Just saying..." |
Wha- POISONED?! 'Is he serious??!' Evelyn looked down at her parchment and suddenly pushed on the desk to scoot her chair as far away as possible, then pulling her hands back as if the desk was on fire. "Professoooor? Are you serious?" she squeaked. Wide eyed, she leaned forward and picked up her quill, laying it gently and SAFELY on her lap. Not that it could get poisoned or anything...but still! It was a gift and it was entirely too close to the evil parchment! 'Okay...first i almost die in Herbology, now I'm gunna die in Potions! Great! Fantastic!' |
Matheu wrote elegantly and quickly. Professor K spoke fast and used terms he was sorta familiar with. He hasn't gotten far in his unabridged text, but he has read basics in full depth. When he was heard he was poisoned, no biggie. It isn't a fatal potion because that would be an act of man-slaughter. He just needed to find the cure for his certain potion; which could explain the 1-4 thing. |
Marilyn averted her eyes back to the poisoned parchment and quickly scooted away, trying not to make a big deal out of this piece of information in front of her classmates. "You've gone mad." "Is the bezoar a possible antidot or have you decided to try and actually kill us? That would be the Slytherin thing to do..." She glared at the offending parchment, trying to remember anything her father might have said about poisons. |
Becca wrote quickly, struggling, almost, to keep up with the Professor's words. Then when she heard that she had been poisoned, she took her eyes off her paper, lifted her head to face the Professor and stared at him in utter shock and horror. Poinsoned? Then, snapping out of he rprevious state, she scanned the room in search of others who had been poisoned with number two as well. "Anyone else have two also?" she asked, thinking it would be an easier puzzle to solve if more than one brain was involved. |
Zoe felt sick. She had never made a potion before. How in the world was she supposed to counteract a poison with no idea what was in it? He couldn't really do this. The other professors would never let him get away with it. Maybe it wasn't really poisoned and he was just enjoying scaring them and motivating them to work hard at the same time. Looking at her parchment with a wary eye Zoe looked around desperately hoping that someone would be able to show her what to do. |
Hearing someone call out for anyone who had the number two, Evelyn sat confused for a moment. What were they talking about? Remembering suddenly the numbers on the paper, she scooted close enough to the parchment to see what number she had. 'Two. Umm...okay?' Glancing at Destiny's paper, she saw that her number was one. Dang. Sighing, Evelyn stood up and looked around for whoever called out for twos'. "I have the number two." she said, still looking, leaning on her stool. 'I don't want to be poisoned. I want to actually be in a class where nothing like this happens!' |
"Okay. This probably isn't a great time for introductions, seeing as we've been poisoned, but I'm Becca Latrowsk, it's nice to meet you." This is good. I am not alone. I am not alone. She repeated to herself. "I think if we pool our knowledge we'll have a better chance at an antidote." Alright, well it can't be too major, we can't die from it, that would just be bad. "Hm, do you think a Bezoar would work or would that not count as us making up and antidote?", Becca asked. |

He turned to the young, nervous boy- Tibi. "Ah, you ask the right question. The potions you have absorbed all contain many ingredients, but they all differ drastically in effect and each student will have their own unique experience. In the first stage as you brew, you will notice them taking effect." "As I stated, each parchment is numbered- 1, 2, 3 or 4. Every student whose parchment has a #1 on it will notice that their potion will have physical effects - growing feathers or sprouting boils, becoming furry from head to toe, growing wings, or other changes. Those with parchment #3 will notice emotional changes. Those with Parchment #4 will experience mental changes-- slowed thinking, perhaps, or hysteria, or even temporary madness. Those with Parchment #2 have the wild card-- your potion may affect you emotionally, intellectually or physically, or all three ways. The way your potion affects you should give you clues as to what ingredients are in it, which will help you brew the antidote. The actual poison in the potion will not start to take effect for approximately an hour, giving you ample time to brew an antidote before you begin to fall ill." At this Kazimeriz smirked wickedly. He looked around the room at his students. "On the board you will find the recipe for your quintessence-- that 'extra element' referred to in Golpalott's Third Law that we just spoke about. For this lesson, you need not figure it out yourselves; that is NEWT level work and very tricky. So, for this lesson, every student will use this recipe as a base for their potion, adding to it the ingredients that will resolve the symptoms they are experiencing, to brew their potion. At the end of the hour, when you believe you have determined the correct antidote, you may use sperevelio to see what was on your parchment and see if you are correct... or if you are doomed." Kazimeriz beamed as though he was delivering happy news. Kazimeriz tapped the charmed chalkboard once and the following message appeared: Quote:
"Good luck to you all - best get brewing, the clock is ticking!" Kazimeriz smiled happily and turned over an ornate hourglass on his desk, starting the countdown. ooc: Just to make sure it's clear-- you have free reign to get creative with your symptoms and what might 'cure' them! Just make sure your symptoms correspond to the number on your worksheet (1 - Physical Symptoms, 2 - Any Combination of Symptoms, 3 - Emotional Changes and 4 - Mental Changes. You have my permission to change your 'number' if one set of symptoms is more interesting to you than the number you picked. Have fun, and you may feel free to have success or failure as you brew... just be creative and have fun, but keep to the site rules and remember -- if you RP dying or anything crazy like that you really do 'die' in the RP so let's avoid that, mmkay? ;) Any questions, feel free to PM me. Xana~) |
I hafta change my sheet's number, eeep! Quote:
Myy. GALLOPING GARGOYLES! Now, Fyo wasn't freaked out, he REALLY wasn't. This was Hogwarts, and no Professor - not even the male Professor Bunbury -- err, Professor Kazi!Man - would, could poison them. At least, not in a way that might prove... fatal. Fyo's head spun a little, his world tilted a bit... ... and then he realized he was fine. REALLY fine. Sure, Professor Kazi!Man was a little evil - even more than Professor Bunbury - but he wasn't evil evil. He was... okay evil, more like. Which meant that, while they probably HAD been poisoned, none of them were in dire danger. They weren't going to die, at least not today. He needed chocolate. |
Oh Merlin, Destiny was going to die! She didn't like potions anymore. How was she supposed to make an antidote to a poison she didn't know she was infected with? Destiny just looked at her hands, like she could see the poison running through her veins. She looked up suddenly when Evelyn spoke about a number 2, Destiny had the number 1. She turned and gave Evelyn a sad face, and crossed her arms against her chest. Then the professor started to talk again. Good she wasn't going to die, just turn into a giant chicken or something. Hmm, she might perfer death.. |
The people with number twos were random cards? So, she was basically doomed?'Great! ARGH! WHy whywhywhy meeeeeee? Wait did he say we were all different? So like, the numbers don't even mean anything? I'm doomed. So so doomed.' Potions, the one class she was looking forward to the whole year, was now on top of her 'Classes-that-she-will-never-attend-again' list, even above Herbology. Sighing and folding her arms, Evelyn glared at her parchment for a moment before reading the instructions on the board. 'Great, just great. And we can't even use a Bezoar.' she thought, before getting started, unsure of when she will notice the changes in her from the 'poison' thing. |

But at least he knew he had an hour in which to brew his potion. Fyo shook his head, cocked it to one side as he listened to Professor Kazi!Man... and then he blinked because, slowly but surely, a big bubble of something seemed to rise in his chest, rise, rise, rise until -- He was.... SO SAD! Darnit, I'm going to look like a loony soon, he thought to himself, as tears threatened to rise in his eyes, and he wrung his hands in a useless effort to shrug the uncheer off. Shaking his head once more at this turn of events, the fourth year scrunched up his eyes a bit, and peered at the board. Water, doxy egg, horned toa -- oh well, those were the ingredients. THAT WAS SO SAD! With a heavy sigh Fyo began to chop the horned toad innards, hoping against hope that he did not flood the class with bitty tears, anytime soon. Or even begin to hum some dreary song. |
Kazimeriz watched the students merrily. "Tick tock, tick tock... Time is wasting, best get brewing! Feel free to speak to one another -- this is a lesson, not an exam -- to get ideas or assistance as necessary; older students, please give an extra hand to our first years if they are in need of it and feel free to utilize any of the potion texts in the back of the room as a reference if you need it to help identify the ingredients that are, even now, coursing through your bodies, about to cause endless chaos." Was he enjoying this just a little too much? Naaaah. After all, potions master or not, in his heart of hearts he would always be a Defense professor. Constant vigilance. Yes, indeed. ooc: feel free to have your charries interact and react to one another, talk, it's all good-- don't be shy! You have 'an hour*' in which to have crazy symptoms, brew, make mistakes, and interact. have fun! If you need me I'm just a PM away, and of course I'll be monitoring in the class, posting and interacting with y'all, too. ;) *we'll keep it going for a day or three |
"Okay, so scratch the bezoar." God, why, oh why did you have to pick the toughest one, Rebecca what is wrong with you?, she chastized herself. "This is great, we've got the hardest of the bunch and we have random symptoms. I think until something happens to one of us, we'll have no way to tell what to use. So, we wait?". It was a question not a statement. Oh goodness! "Ya know what?", said Becca as she rose to her feet, "I'm going to go get us some textbooks, and we can flip through them." She walked to the opposite side of the room and returned eith two textbooks, placing one in front of her "partner" and the other in front of herself. Then, she began to read. |

Marilyn sighed as she felt the pain starting in her upper back and travelling down to the back of her legs. She wasn't much for pain but was fiercely determined to not lose it in front of her peers. "What do you say we work together to figure this thing out?" Force winced as something started growing on her shoulder blades. |
"Professor!!", Becca said raising her hand, "Oh......... hold on, I forgot what I was about to ask...." Becca squinted as if trying to make her thoughts apear in mid air, but nothing did. "Oh, oh oh !!!!!!!!!!! Are we aloud to use bezoar as an ingredient?? Or is that off limits too?" The room spun a little and Becca held her head in her hand- only to discover that they had been covered in scales! "EW!! EW!! EW!!! Professor!! I'm a lizard!!And I'm all disrotiated!", she semi-yelled aloud, before lowering her voice. What was wrong with her? |

'Sure we can work together!' She turned to face Evelyn and gave her a small smile as in saying 'sorry but we have different number and I don't want to be a chicken forever.' Hopefully she understood that. Destiny didn't have any symptoms yet, so she just started to chop the horned toad innards. 'Ewww! Gross.' Two ounces of that, check. Now the twelve sprigs fluxweed crushed to a fine powder. Just as she was about to crush the last sprig, she noticed something coming out of her hand. Was that a feather!? |
Great, Torin was bad at Potions and he had to make an antidote to this poison Trust a man like him to give out an assignment like that! Sighing loudly and wishing that he hadn't sprouted wings he looked at the instructions and wished that he was better at this class. Oh well, at least he hadn't sprouted boils. |

ooc: I'm off for the night- please have fun and interact, and if you're 'late' to the class, feel free to jump in and play as though you've always been here; everyone is welcome. I'll be back in a few short hours; in the meantime just please keep to the site rules, get creative and have fun! :D |
"Endless...chaos..." she repeated nervously, glancing at the board every now and then to read the instructions. Picking up the water, she stared at it, unsure for a moment what to do. 'Wait...what? I JUST read the instructions.' Shaking her head, she looked back up to the board and read through it one more time, twirling the water so it almost spilled over the top of the measuring cylinder, cup, (thing), until it DID spill and onto her knee. Looking down at the spot, she tilted her head to the side for a moment, just staring at it, confused as to why that happened. "Wha- Oh Merlin! Snap out of it!" Shaking herself from her weird attitude and pouring the water into the cauldron, she read the instructions ONE MORE TIME. "Water, toad innards, ew, eggs...other stuff...got it." Evelyn mumbled before cutting the toad innards carelessly. Glancing up when hearing someone speak close by, she noticed another person by Destiny, before well...just staring at Destiny. Did the other girl smile at her? Why? "What?" she asked slightly curiously, frowning and a little confused, before blinking a few times and turning back to her work. 'FOCUS EV! Focus...' Taking a deep breathe, she picked up the hastily chopped toad innards and paused before putting them into the cauldron, wondering why she chopped them in the first place. 'Whatever...' Throwing them into the cauldron with a splash, she began onto the next task with the eggs and fluxweed. |
Becca nodded, not bothering to look up from her work at Professor Kazi. Okay, I can do this!! I can do this!! She told herself Again, Becca raised her hand, while still brewing the potion. "Professor, can I have a hint as to whether this potion is common or dis-no non common. Also, do you have any antidotes at the ready? because I feel I may mess up big time, I mean, I'm seeing about 5 cauldrons right now!", she said, blinking her eyes rapidly. Goodness- what was she going to do with herself!! |
*ahem* I had to change Fyo's symptoms. -shifty- Quote:
"You're covered in scales," he said, shaking his head. "That's really sad, Torin, that's soooooo sad." Tears rose in his eyes, and it was with an effort that Fyo managed to blink them away. "That's SO sad, Torin." He let out a heavy sigh as he began to crush the fluxweed, then looked at Torin again. Poor guy! He had WINGS! Poor, POOR GUY! "Do you think you know the ingredient?" he asked. "What ingredient could get you rid of those wings, Torin? Those wings are SO SAD!" He wanted to have a good cry at the sadness of it all. |
