| | | Potions Class One
As you enter the dank, dark cave of a potions classroom, the first thing you might notice is the smell. A thousand different scents, good and bad, mingle together in the moist, rich air of the musty dungeon room. The room is gloomy: the lighting is dim, mostly from wall sconces where candles flicker but also from small flames under a series of cauldrons which are simmering at the back of the room. There are rows of workstations with two stools at each station.
A thousand and three jars, canisters, and containers of potions ingredients line the shelves along the walls, gleaming dully in the low light. Each is labelled in the Professor's shaky old man's script, and at the back of the room are shelves groaning under the weight of huge potions encyclopedias and texts.
At the front of the classroom, a large charmed chalkboard stands. On it are written these simple instructions: Quote: POTIONS 101
Please be seated. The professor will be here momentarily. Be certain that you have all your potions equipment with you; failure to do so may cost your House points. If you are an older student who is familiar with Potions you may set up your workstation. First years, please ask an older student for assistance.
You may talk quietly amongst yourselves, but please keep the conversation to a reasonable level out of respect for your classmates. Thank you. --Professor Kazimeriz Class Synopsis:
The professor has entered the room. A brief discussion about the Cardinal Rule of Potions (Know thy Ingredients) has taken place. A Worksheet has been distributed; students have been instructed to write equal and opposite ingredient pairs on this worksheet to familiarize themselves with complementary ingredients to understand the concept of negators, or neutralizing ingredients.
A brief discussion about Golpalott's FIRST law was introduced: for every ingredient, there is at least one equal and opposite ingredient that can be used as an antidote to the first ingredient.
This led to a discussion on Golpalott's Third Rule: the antidote for a blended poison will be equal to more than the sum of the antidotes for each of the separate components.
The class was informed that they have all been poisoned by means of a potion that absorbs through skin contact. Their goal? To identify their symptoms and brew the antidote to their poison by the end of class. Instructions can be found here.
Feel free to jump in at any point! |

Say what now? Manual labor? Isn't that illegal?
Destiny frowned at her clean cauldron. She pulled out her gloves and put them on slowly, hoping that class would be over by the time she put them on. 'Not slow enough.' Walking up to the girl with the rags, Destiny should really learn names, she took a bottle of Mrs. Scallywag's Mess Something Something and some rags. She handed some to Evelyn and poured some of that bottled stuff in her cauldron. Then came the illegal manual labor. She scrubbed the inside with the rag, not even rolling her sleeves because her robes were ruined anyway.
Was it hot in that room or was Destiny just working too hard?
When she had scrubbed for about 5 minutes, she peeked inside the cauldron to see how it looked. Looked clean enough 'So did it last time..' Now could she use magic? Pointing her wand inside the cauldron Destiny said 'Aguamenti' and waited for her cauldron to fill with water so all that bottled stuff would wash away. Then she used 'Evanesco' to make all the water disappear. She filled the cauldron up with water again and then vanished it one more time, juuuust in case it was still dirty. 'Professor, is it clean now?' Perhaps he had extra special eyes so he could see the dirt she had missed.

Kazimeriz's eyes scanned the room, looking for a volunteer. "I can!" Celandine volunteered quite cheerfully, glad for the chance to actually do some of it herself and not just tell others how to do it. She pulled on some long gloves. and then addressed Destiny and Evelyn. Quote:

'Aww...I don't want to clean it by hand!' Frowning, she reluctantly took out a pair of gloves from her bag and stuck them on.
"Mrs. Scowy what Remover?" she turned to the Ravenclaw, raising a brow. 'Argh, what is her name? I know her name...' Cleaning was just too complicated by hand...even the words were...bleh. Well, best be sure that her cauldron was extremely clean then messy. Don't want to mess up any other potions she would make with any leftover potion in her cauldron. "Mrs Scower's Magical Mess Remover." Celandine answered with a nod.
"See its important to do it by hand first because there can be traces still left behind, often absorbed by the cauldron you are using, especially if there are hairline cracks in its surface that aren't visible to the eye. It actually doesn't take as long as you'd think. I think its kind of fun."
She did NOW anyway, the first time, while she hadn't minded tooooo much, she hadn't really seen it as fun.
"Soooo like I said before, You use Mrs. Scower's Magical Mess Remover or clabbert elbow grease depending on what is in your cauldron, or rottenstone as well if the potion is acidic and that is particularly when you use a pewter cauldron because that kind of alloy reacts most to acidic potions, or if its really acidy then you can use powdered chalk and crushed chinese chomping cabbage in water and let it sit for a while to absorb it, but we don't have to worry about that because the Quintessence isn't super acidic, right?" She peeked at Professor Kazimeriz to check.
She had her cauldron in front of her and was totally ready to demonstrate, and ridiculously cheerful about it.

She sat there a minute trying to remember the spell to clean things. She did not want to have to clean any of the cauldrons by hand.
Just then she heard another student say 'scourgify' while cleaning her station. 'Oooh, that's it' she thought. Pointing her wand at her cauldron again Marie said "scourgify". To her delight the cauldron was clean as new. Pointing her wand at her desk and repeating the spell Marie quickly had her work station cleaned and ready for the next class.
She looked around to see if any of the older students needed her help. "Does anyone need me to help them clean their cauldron?" "Well it looks like we did it wrong. Ready for some hard work?" Kay said to Marie with a little nudge. Quote:

Marie was not happy when she heard they had to manually clean all the cauldrons. They were in a school where magic was used for everything so why not for cleaning nasty cauldrons. "This is going to take forever, we will never get out of here now." Marie went with Kay to get the needed cleaning supplies so she could get this mess over with and hopefully get out of this class soon.
Back at the table Marie put on her gloves, pointed her wand at her cauldron and said "aguamenti" filling her cauldron with water. She then put in some of the nasty cleanser and started scrubbing. "Why do we have to clean up after the older kids? They should have to clean their own mess just like we do. This is so unfair!" Marie did NOT like doing manual labor of any kind, she was perfectly happy using magic for everything.

She had her cauldron in front of her and was totally ready to demonstrate, and ridiculously cheerful about it. Still wiping out her caludron by hand, Mina looked up and smiled. "Thank you. I'll have to remember that when I get new robes. I prefer to wear it and not be that color," she laughed as she moved on to using the Magical Mess Remover.
Still keeping an ear on what Celandine was saying. It never hurt to learn something new. The older 'claw was smart and she could learn a thing or two from her. |

Evelyn just nodded at the Ravenclaw, unsure of what she was talking about. All she heard was that cleaning was fun, and something about elbow grease and cabbage. 'Oh...kay? Sounds like fun.' Evelyn thought sarcastically, and was just about to tell the girl that... Quote:

Points taken away? Holding her tongue, Evelyn snapped her mouth shut and looked down at her cauldron, trying hard not to complain about it. 'If I'm going to say something, it better be good...' Frowning, she stood quite still, not moving towards her cauldron or showing any sign of wanting to clean it like...like a muggle. 'Cleaning the muggle way! No! That is so not right! Plus I have to do others? This is like...detention or something! But it's during class...' Crossing her arms, she waited for the Ravenclaw to 'show them' how to clean a cauldron the 'proper' way. 'Maybe if I play dumb on it, she'll clean mine for me too...' |

Marie stopped cleaning when she heard the professor say he was taking points from her just because she voiced her opinion. 'What now we can't have an opinion of our own, we have to like what he tells us to do? And here I thought this was going to be my favorite class, ha!' she thought to herself.
Almost saying something that would surely lose her more points she grabbed the nasty cauldron the professor handed her "Gee, thanks professor, I was done with this one anyway, I needed another one to clean" she said as she handed the clean one to him to inspect.

Celandine beamed at Professor Kazimeriz.
"So like, if you want to get rid of the gunk and stuff its a good idea to use a little bit of water, if you can't conjure it then get it from the taps over there. But like, you should decant the water first, that means put it in another container, rather than conjure it straight into the cauldron cos it might make bad stuff splash on you." Cela explained earnestly.
She did exactly that, measuring some water into her cauldron, just a little bit. She swirled it around so it picked up the majority of goop there and then vanished the goopy water.
Then she picked up a rag and applied the Mrs Scower's Magical Mess Remover and started rubbing at the inside of the cauldron.
"You can keep stopping and doing the water thing as you go." Cela added, rubbing at the inside of the cauldron and vanishing bits of goopy potion as she spoke.
NONVERBALLYNONVERBALLY! Cela peeked at Professor Kazimeriz, to see if he'd noticed.
"And then, when it looks clean and no residue comes off on the cloth, thats when you can use cleaning charms." Cela held up her cauldron so people could see it.
"And you have to look and see if there are any cracks or thin bits and stuff and if its okay, then you are done!"
She made a tada face and then looked around to see if she could help anyone.

Okay, now that she knew how to clean a cauldron, Destiny got to work.. again. She put water in a different container and then poured that water into her cauldron, and swirled it and then vanished it just like Cela had demonstrated. 'Right, now the scrubbing part.' She put the Mrs. Clean on the rag and started to scrub away. Taking the rag out of her cauldron and examining it to see if there was any potion on it, Destiny stuck her tongue out in disgust. 'Eww, I missed a lot!' She then repeated the steps until the rag came out clean. 'Yay! My cauldron is clean!' 'About time too!'
She turned to Evelyn 'Do you need help cleaning that?' Destiny would rather clean a friends cauldron than an upper classmens.

Josh watched and listened to the know-it-all Ravenclaw girl who was familiar to him from the last Herbology class as she demonstrated how to properly clean the cauldron mess. Did not look so complicated bu did not know how to produce water. Was it aqua or agua something? Both meant water right? He did not know. When the girl was done explaining he looked down at the huge mess on his table with a deep sad sigh. Other than the cauldron there were leftovers used of ingredients, the original ingredients spreading everywhere, burn parcments, some unidentified green sticky substance, quills (including the one Rose did throw at him), some of his antidote resting on the table as he poured down while filling the bottle and more... What was someone's magical mess remover? He needed a bulldozer to clean this dump!
Silently promising himself to work much more carefully and neatly next time he walked over to get some water and some of that somebosy's magical mess remover and once he was back the mess before him looked like it got bigger during the process. Like a nighmare. Groaning to himself he poured some water into the cauldron and started to working on cleaning the dump starting from the cauldron.

I'll just do it.' Destiny said as she grabbed Evelyn's cauldron. She switched her clean one in front of Evelyn so it looked like she already cleaned hers. She didn't want Kazi to take more points off of them.
*Evil glare at Marie*
She poured the water that Evelyn already put in separate containers into the caldron, swished it around, and then emptied it. Then the fun part, scrubbing! She took a rag and added the Mrs. Something Somethings on it and started to scrub. She took out the rag and it wasn't nearly as messy as her own. Rinse and repeat and voila! It was clean! 'There! Its done. And I even got a souvenir.' She flexed her scrubbing arm and pointed to her 'muscle', 'A cleaning muscle!' A painful cleaning muscle, that's for sure. 'Now who else needs a caldron cleaner!?' |

Tori was busy doing what everyone else had busied themselves doing, cleaning up."Man what a mess to clean up. Caution for next time."she muttered to herself.

'Now who else needs a caldron cleaner!?' "Hmm?" Watching Destiny take her cauldron and switch it with her clean one, Evelyn finally realized what the Slytherin was doing. "Wait, you don't have...to..." But the girl had already started with the water and everything. "I can...help?" she said weakly, but it was no use. Destiny was practically half done already. 'Wow, she's fast. Wait...no...NO! She's having fun while doing it?' Evelyn's eyes widened in surprise at her own thought. Maybe she was just seeing things. No way can someone have fun while cleaning, except maybe that Ravenclaw girl. Before she knew it, the cauldron was clean and Destiny was showing off a 'cleaning muscle'. Raising a brow, she tried to look positive, smiling slightly at the...weirdness. 'Oh well, weirdness just makes her even more her.' "Nice." she laughed, shaking her head before lowering her voice and gesturing to the cauldron. "You didn't have to do that." |

She didn't mind cleaning though. She was used to it. She had chores, maybe a little too many chores, and since she can't do magic at home they are all done by hand. She would probably have to do it next potions class...unless she gets someone else to do it again. "I think you did a better job than I would have done anyway." Looking in her now clean cauldron, she noticed how cleaner it looked and almost...shiny. *teehee* "Thank you though." Standing up straight and looking around, she took a quick sneaky glance towards Josh. His station looked like a right mess, and she just had to smile.
She still felt guilty for thinking that what he said was the truth, and that probably hurt him, which then led her to wonder why she was agreeing to talk to him further about it. Couldn't they just...forget it? Crossing her arms, Evelyn sat back down on the stool, not willing to move to clean anyone elses cauldron, but just staring off into space. Thinking of potions though...of course...*smirk* |

Almost saying something that would surely lose her more points she grabbed the nasty cauldron the professor handed her "Gee, thanks professor, I was done with this one anyway, I needed another one to clean" she said as she handed the clean one to him to inspect. Kay giigled at Marie and waitted for the Professor to get her. "You really don't like cleaning do you." Kay said smiling at her. Kay kept cleaning and listen to how to do it the right way. "You know that he is going to say something to you." Quote:

"Right." Celandine beamed at Professor Kazimeriz.
Kay listened to Cela. She followed what she was saying and cleaned her cauldron. Kay turned to the class room and pick up the next cauldron that she had grab. Kay cleaned it and made sure it was perfect. "Ok, I'm done with this one. Who's next?" Kay asked holding up the clean one. Kay looked back at Marie and wondered if she and the Porfessor was going to have it out. Kay couldn't just stand by and watch. She knew that if Marie got detention, Kay woud be there to. The Professor had been mean to Marie.

| 9 3/4 ticket holder / The SS Mentalist / Sherlock / The Master Of Everything / Josh + <3 = Ev ''Need more remover pffffff'' Josh took the mess roemover and poured more into the cauldron and started to rub off the remained dirt. This work was even harder than blending the potions or he thought it was. Hopefully much of the dirt was gone by now and with a last rub on the other side it was going to be all clean and shiny. Well, clean. He doubted it was going to be shiny but clean anyway. Letting out another sigh he put the now clean cauldron away and looked down at the mess on his table. This was going to be a loooooong class. ''I want to cry'' he murmured and started to rub the sticky green thing off the table.

Grabbing the rag and the remover, she went back to work. |
