| | | Potions Class One
As you enter the dank, dark cave of a potions classroom, the first thing you might notice is the smell. A thousand different scents, good and bad, mingle together in the moist, rich air of the musty dungeon room. The room is gloomy: the lighting is dim, mostly from wall sconces where candles flicker but also from small flames under a series of cauldrons which are simmering at the back of the room. There are rows of workstations with two stools at each station.
A thousand and three jars, canisters, and containers of potions ingredients line the shelves along the walls, gleaming dully in the low light. Each is labelled in the Professor's shaky old man's script, and at the back of the room are shelves groaning under the weight of huge potions encyclopedias and texts.
At the front of the classroom, a large charmed chalkboard stands. On it are written these simple instructions: Quote: POTIONS 101
Please be seated. The professor will be here momentarily. Be certain that you have all your potions equipment with you; failure to do so may cost your House points. If you are an older student who is familiar with Potions you may set up your workstation. First years, please ask an older student for assistance.
You may talk quietly amongst yourselves, but please keep the conversation to a reasonable level out of respect for your classmates. Thank you. --Professor Kazimeriz Class Synopsis:
The professor has entered the room. A brief discussion about the Cardinal Rule of Potions (Know thy Ingredients) has taken place. A Worksheet has been distributed; students have been instructed to write equal and opposite ingredient pairs on this worksheet to familiarize themselves with complementary ingredients to understand the concept of negators, or neutralizing ingredients.
A brief discussion about Golpalott's FIRST law was introduced: for every ingredient, there is at least one equal and opposite ingredient that can be used as an antidote to the first ingredient.
This led to a discussion on Golpalott's Third Rule: the antidote for a blended poison will be equal to more than the sum of the antidotes for each of the separate components.
The class was informed that they have all been poisoned by means of a potion that absorbs through skin contact. Their goal? To identify their symptoms and brew the antidote to their poison by the end of class. Instructions can be found here.

Even though she currently resembled a smurf with kankles, she did manage to correctly blew an antidote. The sperevelio revealed even in her state, she was very much capable of clearly identifing what ingredients were need. Oh how this day was turning around nicely. Raising her glass again towards Carter's, she took her antidote. Feeling the slightly unpleasant feeling of it going down, she made a face. Yike! No one ever said it would taste good.
Looking at her wrist, she smiled. The swelling was going down and the blue-ish hue was fading quickly. Goodbye Smurfette. Reaching for a phial, she carefully bottled her antidote and labeled it. Quote: Jasmina Bennet

Antidote: Ashwinder eggs, bubotuber, Abyssinian shrivelfig, and daisy roots Smiling at her little dainty handwriting, she made her way up to Kazimeriz's desk and placed her phial in the basket.
Making her way back to her station, she started to clean up as she watched Carter from the corner of her eye. Wonder if he's antidote worked?

Then Professor Kazi came over and yelled at her. Well maybe it wasn't yelling but coming from Kazi, it scared her.
She scooped up a vile of her nasty smelling potion and wrote her name on it. Quote:

That was a lot to write. She walked it up to the professors desk holding her nose and carefully placed it on his desk.
After Marilyn had taken her vial, Destiny knew it was time to clean it. They could use magic, right? Maybe she should ask, but that would make him come over. She was an expert cleaner, so this would be easy.
Leaning over her cauldron, Destiny pointed her wand at the potion that was left in it. 'Evanesco!' Ta-da! The potion was gone. But the cauldron was still dirty. So she pointed her wand again at the caldron. 'Scourgify!' Holding the cauldron and looking in it, Destiny came to the conclusion that is was clean.

Marie stared at the mess that was at her station. 'Well I guess I need to get rid of this left over potion first' she thought. Taking out her wand she pointed it in the cauldron and said "Evanesco". The potion vanished leaving nothing but a dirty cauldron. 'Dang, now to clean this thing out.' She sat there a minute trying to remember the spell to clean things. She did not want to have to clean any of the cauldrons by hand.
Just then she heard another student say 'scourgify' while cleaning her station. 'Oooh, that's it' she thought. Pointing her wand at her cauldron again Marie said "scourgify". To her delight the cauldron was clean as new. Pointing her wand at her desk and repeating the spell Marie quickly had her work station cleaned and ready for the next class.
She looked around to see if any of the older students needed her help. "Does anyone need me to help them clean their cauldron?" |

"How's your potion coming?" He asked Lissy, peeking into her cauldron. His own antidote was pretty much ready now and, with a small smile - the first he had been managed to muster, since the time he had absorbed the 'poison' - the fourth year tapped his parchment with his wand.
"SpeRevelio!"
The answer appeared, in what seemed like a little flash of imaginary fire. Moonstone and Hellebore. SUCCCESSS! Fyo grinned like a loony, and then he felt sad again, rather HORRIBLY sad, and he blinked and looked at Lissy. Hopefully, her ingredients had been correct, too.
"Reckon I should drink this?" he asked her, glancing at his antidote. It had turned out quite alright, hadn't it? Seeing Fyo's excitement, Alice grinned and looked down at her cauldron. Aw..the potion was getting nearly to its full form. In thick honey or wood or well...whatever the color was, doesnt matter. Her potion was ready..Oops..antidote..Or atleast she thought.
As Fyo peeking into her cauldron, she nodded, "It's almost done. Hope I got everything right" she waited patiently as ignoring her temporary sickness.
Time to check, double check, may be.
She tapped her partchment with wand, "SpeRevelio!" the spell declared that she was correct and "Yes," she was right. Her eyes lit up instantly. "I got it, Fyo" she smiled at him, Happy.
"Oh..yes, why are you waiting for?" she encouraged him to take his antidote. Go..Lion, get back your happyness. She was waiting...

Within an hour and half, he completed 6 cauldrons. He saw others working hard. He didn't know if he was able to leave.

Fyo breathed with relief, when Lissy declared that her ingredients were correct. She had added quite a number of them, hadn't she? He had been a little... unsure. But yes, he was glad things had turned out well. "Good job," he smiled - with an effort, it might be mentioned. He was, after all, still under the effects of THE POISON THINGIE!
But Professor Kazi!Man had said they could drink their antidotes, now. Fyo proceeded to, and he felt his limbs, his frame stiffen - he was imagining things, he was so sure - and then the unhappiness seemed to leave, fly right out the window, in one big wave. I think it WORKED! The antidote WORKED! With bright eyes, he looked at Lissy - and nearly groaned out loud as he heard their Potions Master's next set of instructions. Great. So now I have to clean some cauldrons.
With a sigh, he captured a sample of his antidote in a phial, which he then proceeded to label neatly - and, of course, drop into THE BASKET! on Professor Kazi!Man's desk. Quote: Fyodor Balouch

'Talk more about it? Why?' Staring at her messy cauldron, and all the contents on the table from her bag, she sighed and slouched on the stool.
At least finishing organizing her bag like it used to be, even though half the stuff in there was either wrinkled or broken, she turned to the other two Slytherins next to her. "Any of you two tell me how to clean a cauldron?" she asked, slightly embarrassed that she had to. |

Then he slipped on his gloves, and set about the next, not-so-happy task - the cauldron scrub'age - with a small frown. Professor Kazi!Man infuriated him, sometimes. The man was - what was the rather crude slang? Ah yes - bonkers. Bonkers BIG time, to be more precise. Alice breathed out in relief. He came back, with his casual smile. Fyo and Smile = unbreakable. No more sadface and threatening tears. Sigh..relieved sigh. "Yay, Happy man is back!" she laughed mildly as she squeezed his arm gently.
She took another look at him, and took her antidote in a small amount, ignoring its disgusting taste..Ewwwww.. Mmm..now she was feeling better, and the burning sensation had been slowly faded away. Everything seemed perfect just in quick time. Awesome.
"It's great. I feel as cool as cucmber now.." she giggled and took a phial to fill with her experimental antidote. A Success story. Quote: Alice Winchester Fouth Year, Hufflepuff Potions lesson one - Antidote Ingredients of Antidote: Dried nettles, crushed snake fangs, stewed horned slugs, porcupine quills
She labelled it promptly before put it in the basket where Professor had dictated to do.
Now what? Caludron cleaning. Sighs. The most hated part. With a mild sigh, she waved her wand to clean it roughly first so that she could see if there was any need of scrubbings. "I hate cleaning cauldrons" she whispered to Fyo.

Marilyn groaned inwardly. Of course the Professor needed to make their first potions class as terrible as possible. She bit her tongue, trying to not say anything that might come off as a cheeky remark...like she desperately wanted.
Were they allowed to clean with magic? The blonde hoped so as she watched Destiny spell the Cauldron and desk spotless. Out of the corner of her eye, she seen that Gryffindor boy leave. She wanted to ask Evelyn if she was okay...but didn't think now was the time.

At least finishing organizing her bag like it used to be, even though half the stuff in there was either wrinkled or broken, she turned to the other two Slytherins next to her. "Any of you two tell me how to clean a cauldron?" she asked, slightly embarrassed that she had to. 'Cleaning cauldrons?' Did Evelyn really ask Destiny that? 'Don't you know I'm the master at cleaning!?' Well she wasn't the master, buuut she did know how to clean. Giving Evelyn a big smile, Destiny was about to clean the cauldron for her, but changed her mind. 'Get rid of all that potion first, use 'evanesce' and then to clean the rest just use 'scourgify'!' She held her cauldron up to Evelyn, 'See? It worked on ours.' |

Matheu completed the cauldrons and set them aside, minus his. He got up, packed his bag, thanked the professor and left.

Becca's mouth was now burning as she raked her tongue along the roof of it. She couldn't concentrate and itch at the same time, which did not help very much because she needed to concentrate to releave the itching. Becca scowled once again as she felt her tooth dig into her gum as she'd been biting it to try to stop the itch. She raised her hand as she now desperately itched at her mouth. "Prof-*itch itch* essor. *itch itch itch* I kin*itch itch*da need some *itch* help *itch itch* My mouth won't stop*itch itch itch itch* itching and I can't concentrate t*itch*o find an antidote." She was sure she looked like a fool, now with all of the itching and color flooded her cheeks. *Itch* God, this was going to drive her mad!!! She quickly put on some gloves, cleaned her workstation and ran to the professor's desk with a messily labeled "antidote" that she had come up with.

If you suspect your antidote failed, please see me and I shall give you a proper draught to take." "Finally, please clean up your workstation, with one note. The underclassmen are to clean and cure all the cauldrons in the class, including those of the NEWT level students. My OWL and NEWT level students are not expected to clean, but merely are to supervise the cleaning and curing of the cauldrons, advising our younger students as necessary. I trust you all recall the process from last term... and I trust none of you will be foolish enough to forget to wear your protective gloves.. after all, most of your cauldrons are disgustingly filthy." Kazimeriz's eyes darted around the class, pausing on several NEWT students as he spoke. Cela looked at Professor Kazimeriz and gleefully drank her antidote, wondering if she'd actually notice the moment it started working and she got her smarts back. She licked her lips, not feeling any different.
Cel listened to the instructions, frowning a little when Professor Kazimeriz said that 5th and 7th years weren't to do any cleaning of the cauldrons. That felt a little unfair, but she made up her mind to help as many of the younger students and 6th years as she could.
She labeled her sample carefully. Quote:

She bounced up to the desk and placed it with the others then helped Chris clean up their work area, aside from the cauldrons that was.
"Does anyone need help with directions for cauldron cleaning? Celandine asked, fetching some long gloves. Who knew if someone had put calendula in something? She didn't want to take the chance of having a reaction to it.
"Put on some gloves first and then use either Mrs. Scower's Magical Mess Remover or clabbert elbow grease depending on what is in your cauldron, or rottenstone as well if the potion is acidic." Celandine suggested to the younger students nearby. She scooped up some rags and the bottles of cleaning stuff and waited to see if anyone actually wanted her help. "You have to do it by hand first so that you don't leave any residues behind."

Looking at her clean cauldron already, Evelyn looked inside, not really seeing anything but it was dark in the room. She could possibly have missed something. 'Aww...I don't want to clean it by hand!' Frowning, she reluctantly took out a pair of gloves from her bag and stuck them on.
"Mrs. Scowy what Remover?" she turned to the Ravenclaw, raising a brow. 'Argh, what is her name? I know her name...' Cleaning was just too complicated by hand...even the words were...bleh. Well, best be sure that her cauldron was extremely clean then messy. Don't want to mess up any other potions she would make with any leftover potion in her cauldron. |

This was the first lesson, other than flying, that he'd totally failed to complete because he was too upset or too scared or something. Hearing the professor say that he had antidotes, his hand shot up in the air to receive one. Kazimeriz smiled gently at the crying student, taking the effort to shuffle over to him. Handing him a phial of antidote, he placed an ancient claw on the boy's shoulder in what was meant as a comforting gesture. "It was a good attempt. You will do better next time." Quote:

"Thanks for..." Not letting us die? "The lesson, Professor. It was quite instructive." As in, now we know what Cope would be like if he were a moron. Kazimeriz smiled and nodded to Kettleburn. For five points, who among my upperclassmen can demonstrate the proper way to clean and cure a cauldron for our younger students, drawing of course upon what you learned in our lesson from last term?" Kazimeriz's eyes scanned the room, looking for a volunteer.
