DADA Lesson 3 Professor Rae-Branxton lined the desks all around the classroom, leaving a large open space. She then returned to her desk to admire the set-up and to continue to read a bit of parchment. |
"Hello, Headmistress, hope you're doing well today!" Diabolica smiled as she took a seat at the front of class. |
Xana walked into the classroom. "Hello, Headmistress!" she said shyly as she went to a desk near Diabolica. |
"I'm doing well, thank you," Cassandra smiled at the girls. "I'm making plans for a third birthday party for the twins." She tapped her quill. "I'm not sure what they'd want to do... they're both so different. Feel free to take a seat and we'll start momentarily." |
Hello Professor." Josh said sitting next to xana. He had forgotten about their fight. " Hey Xana, Hey dia." he said giving them both a smile. |
"Hello headmistress, having a nice day I hope?" Willow said happily to the teacher as she took sit in an empty chair. Certainly, winning the quidditch game had left her in an extremely good mood. She had not felt so happy in a while. |
"Josh..." Xana said, nodding. "What sort of things do your children like, headmistress?" |

Amelia walked into the DADA room smiling, as she took one of the seats around the circle. Judging from the large open space in the room, she figured they would be doing some sort of practical application today. As she took out her notebook and quill, she gazed up at the Headmistress, "Good morning! How are you today?" she asked, cheerily. |
"Well," she considered it. "Sophia likes looking at books and coloring, and she loves her daddy. She says she wants 'white' cake and lots of sprinkles. Genevieve loves animals, and she's a lot more outgoing and friendly. And, of course, she wants chocolate cake with ice cream." Rae-Branxton laughed. "How did they come from the same parents?" |

Krissy took a seat and smiled. It was obvious that the professor loves her children dearly. Taking a piece of parchment and a quill out of her bag she prepared to take notes. |
Kayla walked into the classroom. "Hello Professor" she said as she walked by, the desks had been pushed aside and there was a large clearing in the middle. This is going to be interesting Kayla thought. |
animal shaped sprinkles." josh threw in. |

"That's a good idea, Xana," Rae-Branxton smiled at the girl as she wrote down the ideas. She winked at Josh. "If I can find them, the girls would love those." "Alright! Enough about my girls. I want us to discuss beginning and advanced duelling today, so let's get through the boring stuff first and then we can begin. How does a formal duel start?" |
Cassandra raised her hand "You bow." |
Amelia knew this answer and raised her hand instantly, "a formal duel starts with a bow, Professor." |
"By bowing to one another?" Krissy said raising her hand |
"I believe you have to bow professor" Willow said when she rised her hand |
"Excellent, Cassandra. We start a formal duel with a bow. I kind of always thought the bow was a little silly, because you duel to learn how to really fight, and I've never been in a fight where we had time to BOW." She snorted a bit at the thought. "ANYWAY, after you bow... then what?" OOC: I'm giving five to Hufflepuff for Amelia's answer too, because I know Cassandra edited, but the edit was about the time... blah blah blah. :) |
"dueling poitions are taken at proper distance." |
"Then you must walk apart from each other, get into your duelling position, and start the duel, as I remember." |
"Perfect! So!" She hopped off the desk and hurried to the open space. "I bow." She did so, executing a silly little bow with a flourish. "I... what do you feel is the appropriate distance? You need to agree on it beforehand, but there is a standard distance many wizards use." |
"Ten paces each." |
"Ten or fifteen." Diabolica smiled. |
Heather raised her hand"I would say about ten or fifteens step.Maybe a little over two and a half feet." |
"Ten paces. Good." Rae turned on the spot and took 10 measured steps until she was on the far side of the circle, facing out. "What a very pretty wall. Now what? Be careful now." |
"You must turn around and face your opponent." |
"Turn and raise your wand into the proper stance... extending your other arm..." |
Amelia nodded and answered the question, "Now I believe you try to cast your spell before your opponent. Perhaps Reducto on the wall would be good." |
Josh chuckled a little as he watched her duel the wall. That was one scary wall. |
Willow kept taking notes in her parchment, trying to catch every single word that the professor and her classmates were saying |
"Oh good!" Cassandra spun, swinging her arm up and striking a completely ridiculous pose. She was in a very silly mood today, obviously. "Very nice. So... we have our very very basics for starting a duel. Would someone like to practice it with me? First one up can try it." |
I will professor." Josh siad to her her as he raised his hand. |
"I would love to, professor!" |
"I would like to professor" Willow said timidly from her sit |
"I'd like to." |
Tuesday wrote down the notes carefully, making sure to write every detail. Tuesday raised her hand slowly. "I will." She stuttered slightly. After seeing all the hands in the air, She put hers back down. She wasn't going to be chosen, Not with all these people. |
Heather shrinked away at this. She would kill herself before she did that. |
Amelia instantly sprang up in her chair like a bunny rabbit when the Professor asked for a volunteer to practice with her. "I will, Professor." she said, enthusiastically. Although she quickly got downhearted when she saw all the other volunteers before her. |
"Lots of victims... I mean volunteers," she grinned. "Jump up and bow, Josh." She came back to the middle of the circle and waited for him. |
Willow low her hand feeling slighlty dissapointed that she wasnt going to--"did she just said victims?" she thought, "oh this is going to be fun" she muttered with a grin on her face watching Josh staning in the middle of the classroom. |
Diabolica slumped in her seat. She was bored currently and since DADA was her favorite class, she was eager to do something. |
Quote:
Josh chuckled at her victims joke. she was pretty happy today. Josh jumped up out of his seat and moved to his position. He moved to bow like she had asked as he smirked the whole time. |
Kayla watched as Josh got up and faced the Professor. Oh this was going to be good she thought eagerly, she couldn't wait to get started herself. |
Xana watched, bemused. She knew that the headmistress, as a former Auror, would wipe the floor with Josh. Maybe she knows some good anti-smirking spells she could use while she was at it... she thought. |
"You'd best stop smirking at me," Cassandra bowed and turned, pacing 10 steps. "I'm going to enjoy teaching you something for once." She turned and pointed her wand, her stance serious and perfect. This was one thing she would always do very very well. |
Kayla watched the Professor very carefully, she wanted to see how this was done...properly. She would need to learn these tips for the future especially for what she has been destined to become. |
Tori watched the professor and Josh. She was really interested in learning how to duel. Spotting Kayla sitting near her, Tori smiled and waved at her. |
Quote:
Josh smiled as he commented about his smirking. He loved the professor." If you say so professor." he told her as he then turned and paced 10 steps. He was so going to lose. He then turned around and moved into the stance. |
Kayla saw Tori out of the corner of her eye wave at her and she quickly looked to her and smiled and waved back. Then she turned back to the Professor she did not want to miss anything. |
"Good stance, Josh. You've been practicing, and I can tell." She held up her wand, pointed at his torso. "Keep your wand grip loose but firm. Don't hold it so tight that you break it in half. Don't hesitate in wand motions. You might get the motion wrong, but if you are half-hearted in casting, then all you'll produce is half a spell. On three, we'll cast, Josh. You can use any spell on me, you want. I'm just shielding for now. One. Two. Three." |
Agie was listening to the instructions the professor was giving and she followed along while in her seat, taking notes of what was being said. She held her wand loosely yet firm at the same time which gave her great control. |

Cassandra didn't need to say the spell, but she did so anyway to demonstrate. "Protego," she stated clearly. She felt like her motions were long and drawn out to make sure everyone saw the casting, but she still had her charm up in time to deflect his spell. It whizzed back toward him. |
"wicked" Willow muttered with a smile as she saw professor Rae-Braxton setting a protective charm on herself before Josh's spell could get her. |
Amelia's mouth just dropped in horror at how quickly their professor was able to deflect that spell. Granted she's been an auror for many years and was their defense teacher, but it still amazed her at the speed and agility of this woman. She made a note to never... ever... mess with Cassandra Rae-Branxton... ever. |
Quote:
Josh saw the ropes coming back at him."finitie incantatum!" he said as it was the only thing he could think of. |
Kayla watched the Professor's movements very carefully, she knew that she was moving slowly on purpose to show the class how it was done. But still it was an excellent piece of defence tactics. She wondered if she'd ever have to come up against any Auror's in the future. |
Jeff tried to focus on the lecture but his attention kept drifting to Kayla. |
"Good, good," she laughed, rolling her shoulders back to untie knots of tension. "Nice reflexes. I'm going to cast at you. You can either dodge or deflect. Unless I hit you," she laughed again, even as her wand came up. "Stupefy!" |
Quote:
Josh nodded as he was going to use the protego charm like she had just used. he smirked as she said it was going to hit him. As if. which was very possible. He was about to cast the spell when he felt her spell hit him. he stood their for a second as he then hit the ground.where did that come from? he felt a bit dizzy.. was their two of cassandra? |
Kayla watched as Josh fell to the floor stunned from the Professor's spell. Good god the woman was good, she didn't even see that coming. |
Xana was impressed with Headmistress Rae-Branxton's technique... and more than a little amused in spite of herself, watching Josh go down. "That is how it is done..." she thought. |
"Oh! I didn't mean it, silly boy!" Cassandra run to kneel next to him. "Finite Incantatem. Are you alright?" She put her arm beneath him to help him up. |
Torie watched carefully as the Professor and one of her fellow students staged a duel. The boy, Josh, was doing well, until he was hit by the Professor's stupefy spell. Torie unconsciously gave a little gasp as he hit the floor, but she was sure he was just dazed rather than actually injured. She looked up expectantly, waiting for Josh to pick himself up and fight again. |
Josh stood up and nodded, " Yeah thanks professor." he said as he then asked." Not that i dont like you professor but is their suppose to be two of you?" he asked with a small smile. " I think i'll go sit down." he told her as he made his way to his seat. |
"that is so cool.." Willow muttered as she saw Professor Rae-Braxton throwing a stunning spell at Josh. "Poor Josh.." she thought feeling a little sorry for him. |
Quote:
|
"Well," she stood and brushed herself off, looking sheepish. "I suppose we can have a go with the dueling. Does anyone want to demonstrate their dueling stance for the class? Feel free to give it a try, and I'll take a look." |
Amelia gasped as the Professor used a stunning spell on the young Slytherin. Well, that was a bit silly of her to try something so complex, wasn't it? she thought, but then realized that she had mentioned this would be basic and advanced training. She felt bad for the boy because he didn't really seem all that great, despite the fact that she revived him. Ah well, the Professor is trained in this sort of thing and she'll set him right. |
Kayla rolled her eyes as she heard some of the whispers of the others, worried if Josh was alright. He was only stunned for goodness sakes he'll get over it she thought. If they were in a real duel they were hardly going to worry if there opponent was alright. |
Jeff rubs his chin. "Hmmm. Interesting. It seems that the victim's belief means as much as the spell." |
Quote:
|
Torie raised her hand. "I'll try, Professor," she offered with a broad grin. |
Amelia smiled when the Professor asked for anyone to demonstrate their dueling stance to the class. This was her moment to shine in Defense class, and without even a blink of the eye, she sprung out of her seat again. "I'll show the class my stance, Professor!" she exclaimed. |
Quote:
Yeah thanks." he said giving her a smile. " Just a bit blurry." he told her as he looked at the front of the room.things where getting clearer.it was a good sign. |
"Good. Torie and Amelia can both show their stance. Don't lock your knees. Anyone else is welcome to join them." |

"I would like to--" Willow stop talking when she saw that the teacher had already chosen the two that were going to give it try in front of the classroom. |
Amelia grinned when the Professor told her that she could show her stance with a gryffindor, Torie. Boy, was she giddy today - which she was sure mostly had to do with nerves and the upcoming quidditch match. She walked over to one end of the circle and stood up nice and tall, with her knees slightly bent. Her right hand held her wand loosely, with her elbow bent slightly. Her facial expressions were proud, but serious, with a small hint of silliness. |
"Come on then, Willow. Show those girls how to do it," Rae-Branxton chuckled. "I'm ready to be dazzled, ladies. What can you do?" |
Diabolica stifled a laugh as the Hufflepuff sarcastically asked Xana what was wrong. |
Quote:
He gave her a smile and nodded," thanks but i'll be alright. Im already better." he told her as he then looked to see a hufflepuff he had met before. he had missed what had happened but turned his attention to the other students. |
"May I try as well, Professor?" Xana asked. |
Quote:
God he was knocked out for a couple of seconds and he needed the hospital wing, geez what a skirt. After hearing the Slytherin girl's comment, Kayla turned to her. "Well that's good then, I must have mistook that dirty look for something else then" she said sweetly before turning her back on her. |

Torie got up from her seat and walked over to the appropriate spot in the circle. 'This is extremely similar to kendo.' thought Torie to herself as she attempted to adopt an appropriate dueling stance. Torie kept her body fairly straight, with her left leg a pace in front of her right leg. Her left arm was extended, but still loose at the elbow, and both of her knees were slightly bent. Her other arm, although loose at her side, was still ready for action. Her whole body gave off an air of attention and readiness. She looked over at the Hufflepuff perfect with excitement. |
Amelia looked from the Gryffindor to Willow, and waited for the next set of instructions. Trying to keep as serious face as possible, she could not help but be humored as there was almost one representative from each house up in the middle now. Smiling at the Professor she said calmly, "Just one from Slytherin and I think we can begin." |
"Of course, Xana... anyone is welcome to give it a try." Cassandra continued a circuit of the students trying out their stances. "Watch that you don't leave yourself open for attack from the front," she pulled slightly on Amelia, clearly laughing at something internally. That had been her greatest weakness in training, afterall, and she'd been knocked out for it. "That's very nice, Torie. Try to distribute your weight evenly across your center of balance. Go ahead and show us your best try, Willow, and I'll let you know how we can improve." She tugged the girl's wand arm up. |
Diabolica smiled. Soon they were going to start. That was good. |
Xana stepped up into the dueling area and struck her position, with the regimented snap and pose she'd learned at Durmstrang. |
Rather than frown when the Professor picked on her stance for leaving herself open in the front, she giggled and turned a faint shade of pink instead. "Oh right, sorry," she said, rather casually in response. Carefully, she slid her left leg to be about a pace in front of her right to keep herself more balanced across her center of mass. "Is this any better now?" she asked, still maintaining her grin. |
Agie got out of her seat to show her stance. From the minute she step up she had her serious face on. "This wouldn't be a joking matter if it was real,"she thought to herself, so Agie was going to treat it like it was real. Agie stood holding her wand loosely, but still firmly. She placed her feet shoulder width apart, which her dominate foot slightly in front of the other one. The rest of her body was straight and we wand hand raised. Agie was rady for anything that came her way. |
Josh moved to sit next to dia." this is going to be good." he said to dia as he watched xana and willow. |
Willow felt the headmistress tugging her wand arm up, as she put her left foot in the front and kept the right one, closely behind. Benting both of her knees, trying to distribute her weight. She kept her wand arm in the air, steady and ready to use it in any second. |
Kayla wanted to get a better look at what was going on and so she edged around the circle to get a closer look and wasn't watching where she was going and bumped into someone. She looked up and saw Jeff. "Oh sorry Jeff I wasn't watching where I was going" she said. |
Quote:
"What? Oh, uh, no prob." He scratched his head and frowned at the front of the class. "No prob." He repeated. |
