Chloe, to answer Atmor's statement, raised her hand and said, "That may be true, but Aconite, while deadly when absorbed through the skin in an open cut or ingested, can also soothe aching joints."
She swallowed and hoped she was correct on this. She had heard it from her father but wasn't too sure.

Kerry nodded in agreement and raised her hand "If you're unsure if a plant is safe or poisonous you should never touch it to find out, as Sini pointed out, and as I said earlier even oils and textures on plants can be poisonous and touching them can be dangerous."

She smiled at Erinelle's answer about the animals not eating poisonous plants, and agreed. She thought that was a very interesting way of looking at things. Although she also thought if the animal did eat the plant and got sick, you'd know then if it was poisonous, too.

Hunter raised his hand and answered. "At certain times of the year, poisonous plants would be the only plant around that is still green," he said hopefully.

starlightangel 11-26-2006 05:15 PM

Erinelle continued to write down all the things being pointed out, there were some really good points being said, and also, the beginning of a debate which was extremely interesting.

atmor 11-26-2006 05:15 PM

Atmor nodded "Yes but for how long before you would have to treat it, or is it used at St. Mungo's without need of an antidote?"

griffin_girl 11-26-2006 05:18 PM

GG couldn't help but notice two Slytherins having a debate. she listened intently while trying to jot down notes. Different perspectives may lead to mishaps... she thought...hope not...

Sinister Snape 11-26-2006 05:18 PM

Hearing the discussion her classmates were having made her question plants even more, raising her hand she said, "I would think that if you are unsure of a plants property you should not touch it with unprotected hands, to remain on the safe side. I also would try not to test things, without understanding the possible results."

Chloe shrugged and said, "To be honest, I really don't know. I know an herbalist used Aconite's oils on sore joints once and deduced it wasn't poisonous unless it entered through a cut in the skin or was swallowed."

shortfry 11-26-2006 05:18 PM

Kerry listened to Atmor and Chloe and hoped that she would not come into contact with any of these plants and have to spend any time in the hospital wing this term from coming in contact with poisonous plants.

"you do need to protect your hands but some posionous plants are acidious*i think thats how it spelt* and even when you are protected you are never quite sure of which one is which " Atmor thought for a second then sed " Take listoria for a second my father says if it is bubbleing you know that it is acidious and should not be touched most times its found in popular foods and is a made from active bacterium"

Professor Virohsa nodded. "Quite right, 2 points. However, you didn't raise your hand. So you will lose your house 5 points. In this classroom, we try to respect each other's turns, so please raise your hand and speak in an orderly fashion"

Erinelle heard this and grinned, she raised her hand once more, "Well," She began with a cheeky grin, "If there is an animal near by that either won't eat it, or eats the plant and become's ill, i'd assume it was a poisionous plant."

She hoped that hadn't come across as being too cheeky.

OOC- I already caught this in pg2. Next time, don't edit your post (I'm not sure if you did). I would rather you double post than edit your post to add something else you wanted to say.

Professor Virohsa listened to the girl speaking. "The chemicals in the oil surface may cause itching, and in some cases be the poisoneous part. It is important to note that not all parts of a plant are poisenous, so 2 points. However, please keep in mind what I said about raising your hand. So I will take 5 points from your house. Respect is very seldom, and I encourage you all students to adopt it".

"Ah, very interesting question! 2 points. We will discuss this in a second"

[color=darkred]Professor Virohsa nodded. "And this certainly highlights that not all parts of a poisenous plants are dangerous", she explained. "2 points"

Professor Virohsa nodded as the discussion ensued.

OOC- I will be updating the points in a second, so feel free to continue the discussion while I update the points.

Maxilocks 11-26-2006 05:25 PM

Tia glanced at the student who now seemed to be in the midst of a debate. She hoped no Gryffindor took part in it – Who knew, Professor Virohsa might consider it as unnecessary chatter, and deduct points?

She was relieved to see that she did not, though, but merely continued to jot down what the others were saying. It might come in handy, later on, when she was preparing for her Herbology exam at the end of term.

griffin_girl 11-26-2006 05:26 PM

GG continued to pay attention. the debate seemed to turn into a class discussion.

apple green magic 11-26-2006 05:28 PM

Chloe sighed and smiled, thankful she had earned some points. "Are we going to be discussing the symptoms and antidotes for certain poisons in this lesson, Professor?" she asked after raising her hand.

Sinister Snape 11-26-2006 05:29 PM

Sini realizing she had lost her house all of the points she had gained decided to sit and watch what was happening, reminding herself to raise her hand whenever she spoke.

Believe 11-26-2006 05:30 PM

Hunter smiled at himself. He had earned Ravenclaw two points. It wasn't a lot, but it could help. He began to jot down some notes from the class, listening as the students had a debate on this.

Ooc: Ok then, sorry about that.

Ic: Erinelle picked up her quill and began to jot down in note form the discussion that was going on. It was becoming very interesting.

apple green magic 11-26-2006 05:36 PM

Chloe scribbled her notes down on her parchment. She looked around at the other students discussing whether they should touch a plant or not. She had been in the discussion earlier, but decided not to use her breath on it. She knew the same rules for Muggle Chemistry applied here, but decided not to get on the topic as it was way off subject. Instead, she listened to the other students have it out and waited for the professor to deem which was correct and which was incorrect.

Professor Virohsa frowned. "Please do try to raise your hand when participating in a class discussion. 5 points shall be taken from your house.

Professor Virohsa nodded. "Yes, we will. However, we will look at them in terms of a specific plant".

"Ok, we can continue. We have so far talked about the smell, look, and we have talked somewhat of the location of poisenous plants", she started to explain. "So lets focus on identifying poisenous parts of a particular plant. Everyone, clear your desks and take out your gloves, eye wear, tie your hair, and just make sure your desks are clean. While you do that, I will take the plants out and make sure to grab one per person or per group", she explained. "It is time for the practical part of the class", she added.

GG tied up her hair in a ponytail. She took out her gloves and her goggles. she put them on and took a plant. She went to a Gryffindor*SenoritaMaxie* and asked, "Wanna be in a group?"

Believe 11-26-2006 05:40 PM

Hunter listened to the Professor. He stashed his notes and hs book into his bag and placed his bag on the ground. Putting on his gloves and clearing off his desk, he was ready. He sat in his chair and waited for his plant to come.

atmor 11-26-2006 05:42 PM

Atmor put her hair up in one, put on her gloves and her goggles. She walked over to Chloe "Hi im Atmor wanna be partners?"

michalice 11-26-2006 05:42 PM

Mich cleared her desk and put on her protective gear. She pulled a ribbon from her bag and quickly tied up her hair.

Sinister Snape 11-26-2006 05:42 PM

Sini cleared her desk and got ready for the practical part of class, hoping she could find a way to make up some of the points she had lost her house.

ooc: sorry about the edit, I will not do that again.

Maxilocks 11-26-2006 05:43 PM

Saddened that her house had suddenly seen such a drop in points, Tia sighed inwardly. When the Professor spoke again, she hastily stuffed her roll of parchment and other belongings in her bag, taking out her dragon hide gloves and swiftly slipping them on, along with her goggles, and then waiting for further instructions.
