falling from grace 10-16-2005 05:12 PM

Despite the fact that she wanted to comment on what the Professor just said, she kept her mouth shut before she could get into any trouble. Wordlessly, she left the office.

With a sharp snap, she closed the door.

The last thing that was needed right now was for Selena to get another detention or to lose Slytherin anymore points.

"The observation is," Jaren replied neutrally after Alex had left, "after several years of experiance, one does not expect apollogies anymore."

He turned to leave, but lingered for just a while to see what Terry was up to and if Professor Fox had anything to add to that comment of his.

fox_in_socks 10-16-2005 05:24 PM

Professor Fox looked up at Jaren. "Thank you Mr. Kymers, you have said your piece." He took a moment before returning his attention to Terry, "Now then, to your part Ms. Weasley, what can I help you with today?"

Backslash 10-16-2005 05:48 PM

Having no other reason to stay around, Jaren exited the office, closing the door behind him.

Mrs. Weasley 10-16-2005 11:30 PM

Terry turns around and sees that Jaren and Alex have left the room. "This is fascinating, Professor. Are these spells you reduced to these equations?" She walks back to the chair she was sitting in still looking at what was on the board as she sits down. "I'm sorry to bother you, Professor particularly when you were planning to take a break from your work. I was hoping if you weren't busy I could discuss a theory I have with you. It concerns some of the statements Professor Rae made at the opening banquet." Terry's mind is a buzz with all the numbers and symbols on the blackboard. What the professor said in class is true. An individual can reduce magic down to numbers. She wonders if that can be done with magical processes too. Then maybe she could find out why she can make things appear out of thin air. If it relates to transfiguration or aparation or something completely different.

fox_in_socks 10-17-2005 12:28 AM

Professor Fox nodded and leaned back in his chair. "Certainly Ms. Weasley, though I don't particularly see what there is to discuss. Unless you are referring to house spirit and Hogwarts pride and the like. As I mentioned in class, and as the Headmistress said, the circumstances of what happened at King's Cross station was a simple accident in which certain precautions were not taken and muggle construction broke down the barrier." He sighed, and motioned for her to speak at any rate. "But, speak your piece nonetheless Ms. Weasley."

Mrs. Weasley 10-17-2005 12:43 AM

"I wasn't referring to what happened at King's Cross Station. On the contrary you lesson in class helped clear up some problems I had with the headmistress's explanation. It seemed unlikely to me that a muggle explosion could have caused the damage to the barrier that I observed," Terry knows she's skating on thin ice by tell him she had examined the damage first hand, but Professor Fox always seems to make even the simplest conversation a confrontation, "and not caused more damage to the station as a whole. The damage was limited to that single area almost like someone had deliberately destroyed the barriers and Ancient Runes tile and tried to make it look like a simple muggle explosion. You said Ancient Rune tiles and magical spells can decay in time from age and neglect. That fact makes the headmistress and your explanation a little easier to accept. Of course there is still the possibility someone could have made the magic decay deliberately, but I didn't come here the argue with you about the past. I wanted to ask your opinion about the security here at Hogwarts. If the same thing could be happening here. It would explain how Voldemortist and Madame Sureaux could just waltz in here. Professor, would it kill you for two minutes to talk to me like I'm a human being and not some subspecies just because I'm a student." Terry knew she had gone too far this time. Professor Fox seems to know how to push her buttons everytime.
[OOC Note: Professor Fox did not turn into a fox. As much as I appreciate the creativity of the post.]

Professor Fox gave a great inward sigh. He took of his glasses and set them down before him. He began to talk in a tone like that of a tired father, quiet, polite, and patient. "To begin with Ms. Weasley, I hope me stating this will set it in your mind rather clearly. What happened at King's Cross Station was an accident, nothing more. The headmistress, myself, and other staff have already explained this to you. There was no diabolical or deliberate intent on anyone's part concerning this. So Ms. Weasley, please remove all doubts to the contrary about this from your mind.

"Secondly, I realize you are used to other teachers treating you in a certain way. However, I am not those teachers Ms. Weasley, and whether you agree with me or not, as your teacher it is not my place to be your friend. You have other friends for this, you do not need me to be your friend. It is my place to be your educator, and to teach you." He sighed again and continued, quietly and politley, "I do not believe you are not a capable person, nor do I believe you are somehow less of a person than me. However Ms. Weasley, I am your teacher and I will only tolerate a certain amount of back talk. When you become a teacher, as I am sure you are capable of one day, you may treat your students like friends.

"Lastly," he began with a great sigh, "Hogwarts is more than safe enough for you and your friends. Headmistress Rae and all of her staff are among the most capable and diligent people in the whole of the United Kingdom. Furthermore, there is no reason a young student such as you should be worrying about anything other than your studies, your friends, quidditch, and perhaps your OWL's. So please Ms. Weasley, there is no reason to not feel safe here. Now, I am going to deduct five house points from you for behaving the way you have, I hope you will not repeat it, lest I deduct more and we have detention together again."

Mrs. Weasley 10-17-2005 05:10 AM

Terry didn't understand Professor Fox nor did she think she ever would. Professor Rae had asked the students for suggestion to improve security around the school, and she simply wanted to discuss something with the professor. She did not mean to imply anything other than the simple facts. I apologize for bother you and losing my temper again. "I will try to refrain from doing both again in the future. I do not wish to serve detention with you again at this time. May I be excused."

fox_in_socks 10-17-2005 05:31 AM

Professor Fox nodded tiredly and motioned for Terry to get up. "Thank you Ms. Weasley. I appreciate your concern, and it has been noted. Good night, and keep up the good work in Arithmancy." He then leaned back exhaustedly in his chair and waited for her to exit.

babydriver27 10-17-2005 05:36 AM

Fresh from her talk with the Headmistress, Erica made her way to Fox's office deep in thought. From her talk, she was only able to gather that Rae was trying her best and she was doing all she could to keep the school running smoothly and efficiently. Only thing was that stupid book was still nowhere in sight and the logical conclusion was that if someone didn't take it out, it was still housed somewhere on the grounds. Soon enough, she was going to need a vacation from all this stress. Sighing to herself, Erica quietly knocked on the door and waited for an answer.

fox_in_socks 10-17-2005 05:55 AM

Professor Fox heard the knock and sighed, beginning to truly feel for the first time that he was older than he really was. "Yes, please come in. Ms. Weasley and I have only just finished." He said as his door slowly opened. He couldn't help feel that he really would like a cup of tea and perhaps a biscuit as well, but nonetheless he simply waited patiently.

Mrs. Weasley 10-17-2005 06:00 AM

Terry smiles at Erica as she leaves the professor's office. She hopes she has better luck with him than she did.

babydriver27 10-17-2005 06:04 AM

Erica heard the professor allow her to come in and pushed open the door further wondering who Ms. Weasley was. Her eyes fell upon Terry and instant comprehension hit her as she put two and two together. Well, shows me how much I was paying attention in class..., she thought to herself as her eyes moved from Terry to Fox. She would've continued and stated her business if it wasn't for the fact that Fox looked a little stressed at the sight of her. Erica was very unsure if it was Terry or herself that he was mad at, seeing as how they both were able to get on his bad side quickly.

She watched as Terry stood up and left before talking to the professor.

"Professor, are you alright? You look a bit strained. Is this a bad time for me to come?"

fox_in_socks 10-17-2005 06:13 AM

Professor fox chuckled quietly to himself and motioned for Erica to sit down. "No Ms. arbon, I am perfectly fine. Please sit down." He motioned to a seat before his desk. Waving his wand, the door to his office closed. "Now then Ms. Arbon, what may I help you with?"

babydriver27 10-17-2005 06:27 AM

Nodding, Erica walked up to the desk and took the seat that Fox had motioned for her. She was silent as she took to looking at the desk, the bookshelf, anywhere but directly at the professor. It was some time before she spoke.

"Um, well, I was talking with the Headmistress just now and...at a point in the conversation it occurred to me how I wasn't really acting like the respectful student that I should've been...and so I came to apologize to you about that. I don't think I ever really did. Well, not properly, anyway."

She ended with her hands in her lap and her face very red, still not quite meeting the professor's eyes. She had never felt so embarassed in her life before.

fox_in_socks 10-17-2005 06:42 AM

Professor Fox simply blinked in disbelief for a moment. He struggled for a moment to retain his as-always aloof composure, and simply nodded quietly. "Well, thank you Ms. Arbon. You don't know how much it means to me that you were willing to say that." He took a moment and cleaned his glasses, smiling very weakly and somewhat paternally. "I realize my manner of teaching is drastically different from that which you are used to; so, your apology is noted and I don't think we need say any more on the matter. Water off a duck's back as it were.

"Were there any other concerns or questions you had, or was that all Ms. Arbon?" He asked, having set his glasses on the table before him.

babydriver27 10-17-2005 07:00 AM

Relieved that Professor Fox had taken her apology so well, Erica breathed a great sigh of relief and smiled. She wasn't about to leave yet, though. She still had a question about those puzzles that were posted up on the bulletin board outside, those darn puzzles that she couldn't, for the life of her, figure out. Pulling out that particular parchment from her bag, she spoke.

"One last thing before I leave, Professor. I was just wondering if that clue you gave for the first puzzle is valid for the second one. It did say on the board that the second puzzle was just like the first, only easier."

fox_in_socks 10-17-2005 07:15 AM

Professor Fox nodded. "Ah yes, well did I actually write the two puzzles were just alike? Or, did I say that if you solve the second puzzle, you will be better able to solve the first?" He thought for a moment then said sincerely, "I think it is safe enough to say that the second puzzle is completely different than the first. But, nonetheless, I would have thought you would have a good start on the first puzzle by now Ms. Arbon. At any rate, give the puzzles a try, they are for fun, not for stress. I would suggest you work with Ms. Weasley on them, the two of you seem to have an eye for Arithmancy and both of you are in the same house." He added as a last note, as if just remembering, "By the way Ms. Arbon, have you worked any on the previous assignment I gave you?"

babydriver27 10-17-2005 07:37 AM

"Ah, well, I've definitely been busy with lots of other things and I guess I haven't been able to devote as much time to that puzzle as I'd like. You know, Quidditch practices, other schoolwork, and I run an interhouse newsletter, the Hufflepuff Herald. I've been very busy lately. Hopefully, Terry shows up at that classroom you've set up. I wouldn't mind the extra help."

Erica was getting slightly pinkish around the ears again. Admitting that she didn't have a complete handle on things was something that she didn't like to admit at all. And from what she just rambled off to the professor, it sounded just like that.

"And the assignments, yes, I'm still working on it. Both of them."

fox_in_socks 10-17-2005 04:15 PM

Professor Fox nodded thoughtfully. "Well, keep up the good work then Ms. Arbon. I will see you in class."

babydriver27 10-17-2005 04:53 PM

Satisfied that she was able to get all of that off her chest, she stood up and grabbed her bag. She replaced the parchment that she pulled out of her bag earlier and nodded in the professor's direction.

"Goodbye, Professor. Thanks again for your time."

She turned and exited the office, being sure to shut the door on her way out.

fox_in_socks 10-17-2005 05:39 PM

Professor Fox arrived back at his door, and knocked gently on it with his wand. The door opened quietly and he stepped inside, taking a seat behind his desk and continuing his reading.

Mrs. Weasley 10-19-2005 07:11 PM

Terry walks up to Professor Fox's door and gently knocks on it. "Professor, if your not too busy may I have a word with you?" She really doesn't want to have to speak to the professor, but she has exhausted all of her resourses and still can't begin to figure out how to start trying to solve his puzzles.

fox_in_socks 10-19-2005 10:15 PM

Professor Fox looked up and hearing Terry he said quietly, "Ah yes, Ms. Weasley, do come in." The large, knobless door to his office then opened quietly and he motioned to a chair before him as he made some finishing touches on the papers he was working on. When he was done he looked up politely, "Now then, what can I do for you Ms. Weasley?"
