Introducing the newest Member of the Week, a woman of many varied talents:
NABS
[Nabs was known as Nabiya at the time of this interview] Nabs is in pink
Cassirin is in dark red Alright, let's get into the spirit of things, shall we? Would you like some tea first? Oh yes please, no milk with two sugars *pours* Excellent. Now, let's start at the beginning and keep on until the end. Who are you? *sips* I am Nabiya, that's actually my real name. I know I'll forget anything else. I'm 18 years old and I'm a college student. So you're one of our so-called "older members". What are you studying in college? Yes, I suppose I am. I'm actually finishing up my A levels. I'm doing Sociology, Economics and English Lit. What do you hope to do when you *ahem* grow up? When that happens, I hope to be an editor in chief of some super cool magazine. So you like to write? Yes, I love writing. It's one of my escape routes when things get a little hectic. My mum said she got me my first journal when I was 8 and I know I've kept one ever since. What types of things do you write, aside from journaling? Anything we can find on SS to enjoy? Well...*blush* I wrote a fan fic which I "published" on SS. It's completed and it’s a bit fluffy. Although I'm sad to admit it got a bit messy near the end. Ooh, I also write poetry. I had a thread on SS, but it's now been moved to the Ye Olde thread. Awesome... so aside from writing and spending mad amounts of time on SS, what else do you like to do? Ahh...with the time left over, there's not much, but I do read a whole lot. And for now I'm almost always glued to my books, because my finals are in 2 weeks. But besides that, I enjoy singing and just talking with some of my close friends. You sound like a mini me! Hehe... aside from HP, what are your favorite books? Maybe I am! *waddles along* I used to be embarrassed to admit this...but I read WAY too many romance novels...*blush* Haha... that's not embarrassing. You have to read a lot of different genres, and both good and bad authors to learn how to write. Be proud! Tell me about your family. Yes, okay, I'm proud of it. Hehe. My family...we're very close-knit, we're what Sociologists would call an extended family (both horizontal and vertical). Although, I won’t get carried away and name everyone. I live with my parents and 3 younger siblings, 2 boys and another girl. You're the oldest? Are you close with your siblings and parents? Yes, I am. My mum and I are best friends, and we talk to each other about everything. However, I'm not that close to my siblings, because the age gap between us is huge! Between me and the second born, it's 8 years. Although I almost always end up being the babysitter for them. Aw, that stinks... siblings make life so much more colorful. Yes, they do...they colour my walls. And now… where are you from? Ahh...I'm from Malaysia Wow... this is a dumb question, but does that mean English isn't your first language? Well, politically it shouldn't be. But for me, it is. Mainly because I've been moving around with my family a lot, so English is my main language. Do you speak any other languages? Well, I speak our language - Malay - but not very well. I understand it perfectly, just I don't speak it. Any of the Malaysians here will be able to tell you that based on what I've tried to type in our forum here. Is your name a Malaysian name? No, it's a funny story actually. Nabiya was this Russian woman my great grandfather was in love with when he was stationed there, and when my parents had me he fought with my dad over my name. Which is just as well because Dad would've named me Cleopatra *shudders* Wow... and I thought it was bad that my parents named me after the dentist's kid. LMAO Let's go ahead and move into the HP fandom. Can you briefly tell me about how you came to love HP? I still remember it as if it were yesterday....I was 13 at the time. I was at my cousin's house, and she was being boring. So I picked up a book her father had brought back from a holiday (GoF) and I started reading it. I ended up finishing it within that day and I remember flipping back to the front to read it again. I went home later and asked my parents to buy the first 3 books for me. And they did, because my birthday was that weekend. Excellent. It's odd to hear someone start at 4 and then go back to 1, but it obviously worked for you. Which book is your favorite? Definitely GoF. Not only because it was my first, but also because it's so exciting and colourful! I love that book! And which movie is your favorite? Hehe, GoF as well. I liked the other 3, but I think GoF was done very nicely. Or maybe that's just because it's still fresh in my mind. Yeah, I think the special effects and the characterizations were great in GoF. How do you think the books compare to the movies or vice versa? Ahh...I'll try not to be mean, but I don't enjoy the movies as much. I tend to get very critical when I watch them, especially when they change the lines too obviously, or when they cut out parts *cough*ron*cough*. So you prefer the books? What would your biggest criticism of the movies be? I definitely prefer the books. Biggest criticism would definitely be the fact that the script writers have messed around with the characterization too much. Especially in Hermione's case, I just don't see the same Hermione in the movies as opposed to the one on paper. Yeah, I can see that! So who is your favorite character in the books? My favourite character is definitely Lord Voldemort. Although it's very close with Ron =D. I think Voldy has so much to him. He's what lit kids call a Rounded character. I loved the fact that HBP had some insight to him, although I think there is so much more JK could do with his character. Wow... I don't know anyone who's picked the bad guy . That's great! What are the major questions you still have about him? lol! Oddly, I always love the bad guys in books/movies. Hmmm, I want to know why he's evil. Is it just because it's in his blood? Or did something happen to him? If it's just bitterness at being left in an orphanage, I'd like to know what else pushed him over the edge to be so evil. Yeah, those are great questions. Do you like Ralph Fiennes, the actor who was picked to play him in GoF? Oh yes, I love Ralph Fiennes. He's great to look at...lol. But seriously, he's a fantastic actor. I love what he did with Voldemort. I got chills when I saw him move around the screen. Yeah, he was really one of the highlights of the movie for me! Anyone else you're really fond of on the silver screen? Definitely Rupert Grint. I think he's the perfect Ron! And of course, I think everyone knows of my "obsession" with Tom Felton. I love him *fangirl face* Oooh... a fangirl! Yes! Did you squeal? You bet I did! I went for the premiere of GoF, and when Tom came on in the QWC scene I jumped a foot in my seat and squealed. Hehehe. Everyone looked around and I had to bend low in the seat so they couldn't see me. That's awesome! Which character do you think you are most like? Hmm...most like? Hehe, I think I'm a lot like a mixture of Ron and Hermione. There are times when I get naggy with my friends and force them to be responsible with me, but others I just feel like having fun and teasing those around me for being so serious. My friends say I suffer from a multiple personality disorder. Hehe... Which character would you be friends with? I'd be friends with Neville Longbottom, maybe because I feel sorry for him at first. But then I'll stick with him cos he's such a great person. Yay... I think Neville would have a lot to offer as a friend. Let's talk about your time on SS. How did you come to SS? I found SS when I was searching for pics of Tom Felton. *blush* Like I said, I'm a fangirl. I think that's kind of cute, actually . Then I saw that there was a sorting going on, and I thought "cool!" So I signed up, and the rest is history. Yes, another reason I love Tom so much is cos he brought me to SS *gets all cheesy* Wow... you're one of the lucky ones who joined SS during a sorting. How long have you been a member? I'll be 2 years old on June 4th. Yay! I'm a two-year member too, but I came on during a Potter Project, if you've ever heard of those. I have! But I missed them. What's your favorite part of SS? Favourite part would definitely have to be the RP. I eat, sleep and drink the RP. Then second would be the graphics forum. You're a graphics maker, too? You're so multi-talented! Yes, I'm a graphic n00b *blush*. But people seem to like my work, so I keep making them. Awesome! Tell me about your responsibilities on SS. You're not just a regular member. No I'm not… hehe, and I'll list them all out for you nicely. Muggle Hangman host, Hufflepuff Herald Editor, Graphics maker, Quidditch Captain, Flourish and Blotts shopkeeper, TFFC president, and LVFC president. Wow... you're a busy girl! You're definitely a leader in the Hufflepuff house. Some people get sorted into Hufflepuff and aren't that happy about it. What would you tell them? I'd tell them that they couldn't be more wrong about the house. Hufflepuff is a fantastic house full of fantastic people. I admit that I had hoped to be sorted into Slytherin, but after a while I realized that I wouldn't have it any other way. I wrote a poem about Huffie House which explains how I feel about us. It's now on the first post in the Huffie Table thread. I'm glad you're happy with your house. No one is sorted lightly, but some people can get very unhappy! Ultimately, where do you see yourself on SS in the future? 5 years old and still going strong? Hehe *hides real answer* Aw... nothing for the masses today? Well...I always hoped to be a professor, but I don't think I'll be able to. Why not? You never know! I've seen the way the professors teach! They all put so much work into it! I'm in awe actually, and a I'm afraid I might make a right mess out of it. Well, that's an honest answer I can appreciate. What are your thoughts on the plot this term? I'm excited, definitely. Mostly because the last time something like this happened in the RP, I was having my High School finals and missed it. But I'm also scared my character might do something stupid and end up dead. Aww... that hasn't happened in a few terms, and even then, it was people who went out of their way to be in danger who ended up dead. But I can see how that would be a worry. Any predictions? Well, I've read up on the Hogwarts: A History thread, and I'm guessing this has something to do with the Voldemortist and the Book of Mysteria. Although...that might be the obvious guess. I think that's a safe assumption. I’m glad you're into the plot... that's really our goal! What would you like to see happen in the future? Ahhh..I'm definitely looking forward to a huge Hogwarts wedding and of course some serious battles going on between the professors and Voldemortist. Those are a sure bet. Okay... I have just a few questions left, and then we're done. Okie dokie First, what is your secret talent? Hmmm...I compose and write songs. But only for my own ears...I won’t let anyone else hear them. Aw... that's a shame Ooh ooh! Can I add something to what I see in the RP future? Sure. In a few years when we figure out how, I'd love to have a Virtual RP. It would be so wicked! I've heard that before... I sure wish I knew how to do it. lol, we'll figure it out someday! Now, usually at this point, I'd ask for you to think up one question to ask the next MoTW, but since we're not doing it the usual way... I'm going to have to do something different. I'm going to let you think up one question to ask... me . Ooh! That's nice... Okay, this is silly..but, If you could have one Super Power, what would it be? (Can you tell I'm waiting for X3?) Oooh... I am too! Let's see... that's a hard one. I think I'd like to be telekinetic just like Jean Gray. I wouldn't want to read minds... I like some privacy... but I’d like to be able to move things. Oooh...Nice choice. And yes...I wouldn’t want to know what people actually think of me. Alright... I suppose that's all from me. Would you like a cookie for the road? Yes please *accepts cookie*
