December 2021 kayquilz ! The interviewer, Felixir, is in this color
The interviewee, kayquilz, is in this color Hello all you wonderful SnitchSeekerererers, and welcome to another Member of the Month interview. I'm coming at you live (except not live) and in stereo (except there's no stereo) with our Member of the Month for December, kayquilz! Soooo, let's get right into it. Tell us a little about yourself, kayquilz.
Well, firstly, my name is Kate and I have been here for a decade now! I joined all the way back in 2012 ;__; that’s crazy to me! Jeeze Jeeze Jeeze!! Um um ummmm what else about me would be remotely interesting?! I’m an English teacher, and I write a lot in my free time. If I think of anything else interesting about myself as we go, I’ll fill you in. Ha! Okay, wait, woah, I cannot believe it's been that long already. I think I just bluescreened a little bit. But... aNyWays, yes, first of all, let me just appreciate your teacherness, because you're a star. We love an educator ;; And a writer! What kind of writing do you do?
So I mainly used to do poetry. I went to grad school for creative writing poetry and that is what my masters is in. However these days, I find myself writing a lot of spooky or off-putting stories. I don't have time to write like I used to, though, because teaching is such a time consuming job. But I put a lot of my creativity into that so I don’t go absolutely crazy! It's such a great outlet, I'm really glad you still get to write in the free time you do have. Do you get much time for reading outside of work, or watching films or TV shows? If so, do you have any current (or lifetime) favourites? If not... this is awkward.
I mostly watch tv shows these days. That’s how I consume stories, I like to say. I just finished Locke and Key season 2, which was great, and I’m starting season 2 of The Great, which is about Catherine the Great of Russia. I don’t really have a favorite show because there’s soooo much good stuff out there. I used to tell people my favorite tv show was Big Brother (the American one) because I have watched every season since season 4, when I was like... 5. It is absolutely garbage, but I still love it. I've seen trailers for The Great and thought it looked neat, and now I'm taking this as an official endorsement. Now, regarding your time here on SnitchSeeker, as you mentioned, you've been a member of site for a loooong time. Currently you're sporting the teal italic username as a Diagon Alley shopkeeper; what other roles have you held on site over the years?
So I’ve actually had...... every role. Lol. I’ve been a staffer, a mod, and I was an admin for a bit too. And a DH. Shopkeeper was the only role I hadn’t held, and finally I HAVE IT. I was super stoked to become one! I feel like I’ve poured so much of myself into snitchseeker that I will always have a place here. So much of my writing is here, too. I’ve grown so much as a writer right here on this site. Gahhh! I don’t mean to get emo and all, but jeeze! The range *-* And, you know, growing as a writer here on site is a perfectly valid thing to get emo about, I'm sure so many can relate to that. So what about the very START of your SnitchSeeker journey; how did you first find the site, and what was it that made you stay and sign up?
I first found snitchseeker after deathly hallows either part 1 or 2 (I honestly can’t remember) and I knew I was going to miss the series a lot. I stumbled into SS and had experience with forum RPing before so I pretty much signed up and jumped right in with my first character ELLIOT. I was like 17 though so... lol. I made her life so dramatic and I’m so embarrassed now. I’m sure there’s so many talented 17 year olds out there but I look back at my posts like OMG WHY KATE. Lol. I know that feeling well, but again it's about that JOURNEY. And if you can't be dramatic in the RP, then honestly when can you. When you log into site, is it usually the RPG areas you stick to? Where else might we see you around SnitchSeeker?
I usually do stick to the RP areas, but I sometimes go to the challenge arena area with all the beautiful drabbles people write. I have two threads there currently I actually need to update! Lol I also love the specialty threads that randomly open up that the mod teams put on - Inktober, DoP and all the other stuff! So much fun. And y’all work so hard and it so shows and ugh!! Y’all are awesome *gushes* Drabbles are super fun to read, it's always so neat how much our members can get into just a one hundred word ~snapshot~. And yes! The events, I'm so glad you enjoy those so much too Now, we all know SnitchSeeker wouldn't exist without the Harry Potter series. How did you first get into the books or the films? What did your Harry Potter journey look like in those early days?
So I actually first got introduced when I got into reading. I had a really good third grade teacher and she got me into reading! I read Nancy Drew books and other fiction books and my cousin told me about this series called Harry Potter. She was on the fourth book, which as everyone knows is a CHONKER right??? Lol. So I was like oh gosh i can’t read those I’m only like 9!!! Well the first movie came out and I wanted to see it, but I could tell if I saw the movie I would be so confused. SoooOooo lo and behold I bought the first one, read it in two days, and that was it. I was hooked. HOOKED I tell you! The rest is history. There will never be another series I have this feeling for. I mean these books mean so much to me. I mean... I evacuated with my set (the seventh hadn’t come out yet so 1-6) with me when Hurricane Katrina hit. Many of you know this already but I’m from the New Orleans area, and my house was completely destroyed by flood waters. Those books were like the only -items- I brought with me that weren’t clothing. So yeah. They’ve been with me through everything. Oh, wow. They really have, and it's clear they mean a great deal to you; thank you for sharing that ;; Across all the books, is there a scene, or a chapter, which is a particular favourite of yours? Either because it's entertaining, or means a lot to you, or just sticks in your memory for whatever reason.
The scene that I always remember, and always relate to, is in book five when Harry arrives at number 12 for the first time and everyone around him seems to know what’s going on except for him. And he throws this huge tantrum and then the prefect badges come in and he’s not prefect and siendjdididis he just explodes. I remember reading this scene when I was honestly probably younger than that 15 years angsty age, but GOD I could relate so much to it. And now that I am older, I love how much of a teenager he is in that scene. It is so ACCURATE. Like my students are that age and yikes man! So so so so so spot on. I love it. Harry's fifth year anger was so on point, especially given… everything. Poor little rage gremlin. Also, as you like to write and (I assume) appreciate a good turn of phrase, I have to know: what about quotes? Any specific lines, from either the books or the films, which tend to stick with you?
I mean the one I always remember is a basic one. The one about needing help and remembering to turn on the light. It’s seriously a quote I have hung up in my classroom. I love it so much. I know the one, and it really is a super lovely quote to remember. A final HP-centric question now before we move on. Who's your favourite character, or the character you find most interesting, and why? If you cannot POSSIBLY choose, go ahead and tell us your top... three.
Hmmm. Okay. This is also very basic. But I just adore our main man himself, THE chosen one, dear audience! HARREH POTTER! gahhh!!! I just really enjoy how lowkey freaking funny he is! His dry sarcasm makes me DIE. I also really enjoy Malfoy, too, but that might be my attraction to the bad boys of fiction that pulls me there. Who knows. I am ashamed though lol Yessss. I really love when people name Harry as a fav ;; because it's TRUE. He's a little sass gremlin from start to finish. Good. Excellent. Correct answers. Smoooothly seguing into more general favourites, you said you mostly consume stories through TV shows these days, but do you have any other favourite books, series, authors, or poets from over the years?
I recently got into the House of Scorpion series which I am sloooowly making my way through. So good. 10/10 dystopian YA storyline. I’m trying to get it into the curriculum at work so I can share it with my students! I love that, yes, finding ways to share it with your students ;; I've heard good things about that series, as it goes, sounds like it's definitely worth a read. What about music? Favourite kind of music? Any artists you tend to go back to over and over?
So ummm I love kpop lately. Big BTS fan, and many other of the popular groups. I also love bands like panic at the disco and fall out boy as well, and lately I’ve been into music my students listen to so I can feel like I’m in the loop lol. So lots of Jack Harlow, NF, and Lil Nas x, Megan thee stallion, Doja cat, etc. basically anything that makes me really happy. Solid logic, and great reasoning. Is there a particular song at the moment that you're really into? Something you would default to if you wanted to listen to something you KNOW would get you hyped up and happy and ready to take on the world?
Either Clouds by NF or Industry Baby by Lil Nas X. I listen to both if I am in a crap mood and need to get in a good headspace for work! Excellent! Music is so great for that, and I was just wicked curious. In that same vein of things that make you happy and taking on the world: is there anywhere in the world you would LOVE to visit? Or to go back to?
Oh yes. I've never been to Europe! Or England! And I am just dying to make it over the pond that way ;___; and I’d love to visit ALL the Disney locations in the world because I also loooooove Disney so much! I especially want to visit the Disney in Hong Kong one day. Maybe it’ll happen! Hopefully >.> Heheh, nice *stamp of approval* I'm not surprised Disney appeared in your answer for this one, and I do hope you'll get to visit all those places soon ;; We're moving on to some quickfire questions now, so here's an easy one: Are you ready?
I AM READY FREDDY. Hit me!!!!! Cat person or dog person? (Or both. I'm just saying. Both is good.)
Absooooolutely dog. Cats scare me. Cats know things. Ahem. Morning person or night owl?
I am a morning person. I am so incredibly tired at night and my nighttime sleepy cranky is so much worse than my morning time sleepy cranky. Fair, fair. Inside or outside?
Inside. I hate the outdoors. I am either too hot or too cold nah I want my couch!!!! Ugh yes *biggest stamp of approval* Favourite word and it's meaning?
Oh goodness THIS QUESTION FELIX *rattles fists at* I have no idea honestly. I think it’s pulchritudinous. It means beautiful <3 comes from the Latin word "pulcher" which yes, means beautiful. *quiet cackling* I like to cause problems. I like it! I've never seen that one before; I learned something new today. Okay, okay, THREE words to describe yourself!
Sjsisijdje I hate this one toooooo! I am more than three words!!! How am I supposed to pick?! I’m a LIBRAAAA so making decisions is so hard as you know, fellow libra. Um um um okay let’s see.
Empathetic, poetic, tired lol Heheheh. It's true, the libra curse is real. But those are good words! (Though I feel for you with the tired part.) Alas, we're almost at the end of this interview, but before we start to wrap up, we have a Quibbler tradition to uphold. Each month, we get our current Member of the Month to provide a question for the next. In November, that was the lovely Deezerz, and she would like to know: If you could live in any fandom, which fandom would you choose and which character would you be?
That’s a tough one because so many of the fandoms I enjoy the worlds they live in seem like they really really are unfortunate! I guess I wouldn’t mind being in the world of Harry Potter because it seems like the most hopeful world to me! I know that’s a boring answer but... alas. And as for character, I’d like to be a background, please. I don’t want any attention! Haha. I feel like such a boring person but I don’t want to be a big deal!!!! lol oh wait — being in a Locke and Key would be cool too. I would very much like to be a friend of one of the main characters and NOT the main charries though. Same reason! Ain't that just the way. Not a boring answer at all; in fact, big relatable in every aspect, as far as I'm concerned. Okay, now it's your turn; what's your question for our next Member of the Month?
Hmm okay. I think I have an interesting one. If you were a cereal what kind would you be? Ooh, that's a fun one, especially given certain stances on cereal around these parts, heh. We've reached the end of the interview, and it's been a blast chatting with you, Kate *-* As we sign off, is there anything else you'd like to say to the members of SnitchSeeker?
It’s been fun, Felix schmeeelix ❤️ I want to let everyone know that I truly care about this community and I hope through all the hard times recently that you all get a little joy here on Snitchseeker no matter how long you stay, from a decade to a few months ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ cheers, yall!
