Located at 275 Diagon Alley, Madam Primpernelle's Beautifying Potions seeks to aid the everyday witch or wizard in maintaining or improving her or his physical appearance. With skincare products that remove warts, acne and worse, and hair care potions that will make one's locks luxurious and glossy, this shop should be the first stop on any image-conscious witch or wizard's visit to Diagon Alley!

As you proceed inside the store you notice that it is divided into two parts. To the right, you will encounter aisles filled with Beauty Care Potions to treat all of your beauty problems, including warts, pimples, dry skin, sunburn, and many more. To the left of the store, you will find aisles filled with Beauty Enhancement Potions, potions that have been designed to help you look your best. They range from simple products, such as hair colour changing potions and teeth whitening potions, to much more dangerous potions that can help you become thinner and younger looking. The shelves are filled with bottles, flasks, and containers of different shapes, sizes, and colours.

The counter is located in the middle of the store. It is decorated with small flower arrangements, a glass bowl filled with bonbons, business cards with the store's contact information, a few magazines (including Witch Weekly and Rumours!), small brochures and pamphlets with coupons and special deals, and small flasks of fragrance samples. If you have any questions about a product, can't find a certain potion, or are in dire need of immediate magical help for your beauty problems the shopkeeper will be more than happy to help you.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Calliope finished scanning the label in her hand — something unnecessarily glitter-infused and entirely impractical but something she would be purchasing anyway— before her gaze landed on the source of the voice.

The recognition was pretty immediate. Hers was a face she'd seen near the pitch often enough to place without needing a name. Gryffindor's keeper had a Ravenclaw shadow.

Her expression didn't change much, still feigning faint disinterest, but there was a subtle narrowing of her focus that suggested she was paying a tad bit more attention than the slack in her shoulders indicated.

Her gaze lingered a second longer, thoughtful in a way that didn’t quite match her otherwise clipped tone. Truthfully, she knew far more about all of this than she ever let on. Growing up, it hadn’t really been optional—her father had treated hair care like a discipline, precise and methodical, and her mother… well. Campaigns, cover shoots, contracts that practically revolved around presentation. There had always been a routine.

Honestly. Annoying too.

Still, there was a reason dad kept landing those Witch Weekly "Best Hair" features year after year — even now, with the grey starting to come in— and a reason her mother never seemed to be without another spokesmodel deal lined up before the last one ended.

"Depends," she replied evenly, turning fully now and leaning one shoulder lightly against the shelving. "What do you think you need help with? Is it your hair?"

Cat felt only slight hesitation when she received very obviously uninterested vibes from the older girl. She was the first person in the shop that Cat could find. Not to mention, the girl had nice skin and seemed old enough to know what she was doing. What kind of Ravenclaw would she be if Cat didn’t find the best source for her questions?

… However, the hesitation increased when she asked about her hair. Cat frowned, gaze falling to the strands of hair draped over her left shoulder. It was most certainly not about her hair, thank you very much. She was rather happy with her hair at the present moment.

“No,” she replied flatly, running her fingers through her hair. “My hair is fine, thank you.” Anyway. “I was actually wondering if you could help me find skincare products that would help. You know, just, like, in general. Being a thirteen-year-old and all. And I’ve never really done skincare. Like really done it. So I guess I just don’t know where to start.”

Her hair was fine though.

Calliope’s gaze shifted very deliberately to the girl's hair anyway. Her eyes narrowed a fraction, cross-checking a mental list of standards, expectations, things she'd been taught to notice whether she wanted to or not.

Well...if she said so...

And just like that she moved on, attention shifting back to the Ravenclaw's face.

"Alright then. Skincare only." She reached out, plucking a bottle from the nearby shelf without even really looking at the label ― this was just a prop anyway. "First thing: ignore half of this shop. You don't need half of it, you're not preparing for a Witch Weekly cover shoot, and introducing too much at once is a guaranteed way to make your skin break out even more.”

She set the bottle back down, picking up another that she hardly regarded.

"Basic routine," she continued, holding up the bottle that was an aftershave and definitely not something either of them needed. "Cleanser, something gentle for sensitive skin since you're just starting out. Twice a day, morning and night. That alone will fix a lot more than you think." The bottle was returned to the shelf. "Get yourself an exfoliating scrub and do that no more than twice a week so prevent your skin from getting irritated. After washing, a toner. Then, of course, hydration. A little bit of moisturizer while your skin is still a bit wet AND drink plenty of water too. Water is a huge factor and seems simple, but that consistency is where the real metamorphosis begins.”

She angled her head slightly, studying her again—this time more intentionally. Skin texture, any redness, early breakouts, all of it catalogued in a glance.

"You don't look like you need anything aggressive," she decided. "So don’t go inventing problems just because these shelves say you should have them."

She offered a cursory glance toward the overwhelming rows of products followed ― all promising solutions to problems that, more often than not, didn’t actually exist until someone decided they did. Rash removal. Pimple vanishing. Scar erasing. As if skin wasn't allowed to… be skin. As if a bruise wasn't just proof you’d actually done something worth bruising for.

Color-changing potions. Eye-shaping formulas. Hair that needed to be straighter, curlier, longer, gone entirely depending on the day. Confidence bottled and sold like it could be measured in ounces and purchased for two galleons and a questionable sense of self-worth.

Please.

"Everything else is just people trying to sell you confidence in a bottle." She pursed her lips. "Honestly, going with babbano products is probably better. A lot of this stuff is given too much magical razzle dazzle and skin doesn't need all that."

Ignore half of this shop. Perfect. Cat could do that. It was all too overwhelming, which was the major problem in the first place. Too much to learn about, and not enough time, because it wasn’t like she could spend all day in this one shop. Her dad would also probably be a bit upset if she spent all of her money on beauty products.

That being said, though… The girl’s explanation was also a lot. Cat tried to pay attention to every detail. After a moment though, she realized that was just simply not happening, and resolved to remember the basics.

Cleanser. Exfoliating scrub. Toner. Moisturize.

Water? That one she could definitely do.

She stood stock still as the girl scrutinized her, not allowing herself to feel self-conscious again. She’d asked for help, after all. The response was nice. Complimentary, even. Cat smiled in response but didn’t trust herself to reply in a way that wouldn’t be, like, fangirly.

Weird.

She let her gaze follow the older girl’s over to the shelves of products. Nodding, she tucked away that last bit of information. “How do you know all of this stuff? She asked before she could stop herself. “Is there, like, a how to be a girl memo I’m missing?” Obviously she was joking. But… also, kind of, she felt like she was the only one that felt this way when everyone around her knew what they were doing. And she did not like that feeling.

Calliope's expression barely shifted at the question — but there it was, if you knew where to look. A flicker somewhere between of course and …right. Not everyone grew up with the flavor of privilege she had. And, trailing just behind that, the faintest brush of secondhand embarrassment — not for fame itself, but for the particular brand of it given the current location.

Her weight shifted onto one hip, shoulder still braced lazily against the shelving as her gaze drifted toward the men's section. Rows of bottles gleamed back at her, all sharp lines and overdesigned labels.

And right in the center —

Her lips pressed together for half a second before she tipped her chin in that direction.

"See that?" She didn’t look at the other girl immediately, giving her just enough time to follow the line of sight and the picture of a man's face printed on the label. "That's my dad."

Her tone was flat, almost bored, as if she hadn't just pointed out the sort of thing people usually led with.

"Nigel Barrington. Bassist for The Dead Kneazles." She shrugged lightly. "He's won Best Hair in Witch Weekly enough times that it stopped being impressive and started being… policy." Her fingers idly traced the edge of a nearby bottle, straightening it by a fraction of an inch that didn't actually matter... but she fixed it anyway. "So, yeah. Hair care wasn’t optional growing up. It was scheduled and a part of nightly bonding."

Calliope looked up again and jabbed her thumb just right of where they stood.

"And my mum is Gaia Barrington." This time, her eyes shifted toward a more polished display consisting of sleeker bottles and subtler branding. She pushed herself off the shelf just enough to gesture faintly in that direction. "She's done campaigns for Ellsberry, Inc. Still does. Sooooooo skincare. Makeup. All of it…" She offered a small, dismissive motion of her hand. "Same as brushing your teeth. Washing your hands. All routine."

There was no pride in her voice, but there was no complaint either ― just ... inevitability. The kind that came from being raised inside other people's enthusiasm, polished and repeated until it stopped feeling optional and started feeling like gravity. Calliope lifted a hand, absently threading her fingers through the length of her hair, the strands slipping smooth and obedient between them. She caught her reflection in the edge of a mirrored display then and tilted her chin a fraction. Her skin held its usual clarity, untouched by the windburn and roughness she'd seen on most Quidditch players.

"So... no memo,” she added, dropping her hand and looking back at the younger girl. "Just a very persistent environment."
