Re-Sorting Available for Hogwarts RPers (Closed until next Sorting)

We are happy to announce an exciting new feature available to those members who qualify. For members who have been active in the School RPG for a while and are interested in trying out a character in a new house, a Re-Sorting Quiz is now available. Please follow the link for additional information about the requirements for Re-Sorting, including but not limited to:
  • No unexpired infractions
  • Participation in at least 7 terms in the school
  • Staff recommendation

Re-Sorting will be open until August 22nd and will coincide with future sortings.

Lislchen 08-08-2010 05:00 PM

Oh. Wow. :gasp:

But if we take that quiz we are in that house forever/until the next Re-Sorting and not just for one term or something, right?

If you take the quiz, that is your new house until you qualify again (an additional 7 terms). If you want to finish out your existing character, you will not want to be resorted.

Okay, thanks! Just wanted to make sure. ^_^

I wouldn't want to change houses anyhow.

Anais 08-08-2010 05:08 PM

Eeeeek! I've been waiting for months :)

Lezleighd 08-08-2010 05:09 PM

What a cool idea! I'm still in love with Ravvie, but this is a great opp for others!

Voldetemps 08-08-2010 05:19 PM

Hmm...
What if the answers clearly indicate... the same house again? A case for Imperius?

Egyptian_Blue 08-08-2010 05:21 PM

Hmmm. Not sure what I think about this. I am totally happy with Slytherin even though I hated it at first. Now I love being a snake. But I suppose it's good for those who really want a change. I'm glad there are requirements to re-apply, however.

Paintbrush 08-08-2010 05:29 PM

Wow that sounds like a great idea and opportunity! Although I'm more than proud of being a Ravvie :D Sounds like something worth trying out though.

Shanners 08-08-2010 05:32 PM

Oooh! It's such a pretty idea, but I'm happeh where I am right now.

<3

The quiz allows you to choose. If you answered all the questions in a way to end up back in Slytherin, you probably weren't really interested in playing a different sort of character and wouldn't have taken the quiz in the first place.

Sometimes, you play a series of characters within the same house and you find that you're ready to explore other characters and personality types. This is for those type of players. Definitely not for everyone. We anticipate only a very few will both qualify and be interested, but the option is out there.

noodles 08-08-2010 05:43 PM

:gasp: Woah.. interesting idea.

Although I'm very happy where I am...

Nordic Witch 08-08-2010 05:46 PM

Oh, Wow!

This new feature sounds awesome. I'm definitley going to try it out when the chance comes. Maybe I will still be a lion but i would still like to try a different house out.. Maybe Hufflepuff or Slytherin. I have some charries I wanna try out and they don't exactly fit in the lion house.

SilverTiger 08-08-2010 05:51 PM

I'm happy with being an Eagle, too. Gotten used to it. And I can play with other houses when it comes to my adult charries anyway. (i.e. Both Dorian and Aliceara are former Gryffindors)

But yeah, it's cool the option's open now. For people who might be interested. :)

DH Vixen 08-08-2010 05:52 PM

Sounds like it would be fun. Even if I qualified, I don't think I could switch. I do LOVE house.

*clings to Ravenclaw*

Hermione J. Granger 08-08-2010 05:59 PM

Sounds interesting, really cool idea.

Tommehbell 08-08-2010 06:02 PM

oh my gosh....don't know if I could see myself in any other house. *clings to Slytherin* its something to consider.....always thought I would make a good Ravenclaw

AlwaysSnapesGirl 08-08-2010 06:13 PM

Ohh, this is cool! I don't qualify at this moment and I'm perfectly happy being in Ravenclaw, but I'd consider trying this out sometime in the future. Certainly would be fun to try out a new charrie in a completely different house. Until then however... *huggles Ravenclaw*

Anna Banana 08-08-2010 06:21 PM

I think this is such a good opportunity. Of course my character wouldn't really benefit seeing as she's a professor, but I think it's nice to have the opportunity to play different sorts of characters.

Erindipity 08-08-2010 06:24 PM

Gahhhhh... I am a few terms shy of the posssibility. Too bad! But great idea.

hermionesclone 08-08-2010 06:32 PM

Wow! :gasp: That's so cool! Absolutely great! I am a few terms short of the cool offer! :( I wouldn't want to change from my Huffie-ness but good luck for all those who are going to be re-sorted!

Tommehbell 08-08-2010 06:47 PM

hmm so we have to have a brand new charrie to be re-sorted?

will this be offered every term with the regular sorting?

Nixy! 08-08-2010 06:57 PM

This is such a fantastic idea that's probably been needed for such a long time!

Maybe when Iris graduates, I'll give a re-sorting a go. I mean, I love the Slytherin House, but I was really suprised when I got that PM saying I was a new Snake and I for one would like to try out new charries in other houses. Like ... an overly cheerful Huffie or something. ^_^

Luna Laufghudd 08-08-2010 07:08 PM

Oh whoooooooooooooooooooooooooop!

That is very cool indeed :D
Though I am EVER so HAPPY with my squishy house *squishes*

BanaBatGirl 08-08-2010 08:00 PM

Whoa. Whoaaaaaaa this is such an interesting option!

I would/could never do it though, even if my characters are questionable Hufflepuffs, we're Puffs through and through. ^_^

Poisonedbyyou 08-08-2010 08:05 PM

Cool option! I'd like to give it a go at some point, but I don't know if I have the heart to. ^_^

tonks2 08-08-2010 08:07 PM

Sounds cool, but a) we don't qualify yet; and b) we're veeeeeeerrrrrryyyyy happy as a Huffie! :D *huggles house* :D

Chelliephone 08-08-2010 08:10 PM

Ahh, this sounds like an awesome oppurtunity! If I weren't shy of the requirements, I would totally go for it! :D

Well, your existing character is a Slytherin. I'm not sure how else you would manage it.

Ama 08-08-2010 08:37 PM

*cackles*

I'm down.

Zachariah Weasley 08-08-2010 09:02 PM

That's totally cool. The qualifications are good, too! :)

samthehpfreak 08-08-2010 09:06 PM

I like the idea  but I've only done one term .... eventually though eventually ... HUFFLEPUFF'S ARE PARTICULARLY GOOD FINDERS!

bonnieginnyfan1 08-08-2010 09:29 PM

I love the idea for people! :D

JackW092 08-08-2010 09:56 PM

Cool!

GoldenSnake 08-08-2010 10:07 PM

cool! nice idea but i wish to stay at my house :D

Manal 08-08-2010 10:27 PM

I can't imagine and refuse to imagine a Blue or red or yellow DFTBA ! :lmao:
A TRUE SNAKE

But it sounds a nice idea for those who weren't sorted into the houses they wished

Steelsheen 08-08-2010 10:28 PM

the timing! oh the irony! :rotfl:

is there an expiry for this here offer? say for example i'd be interested to get resorted but in 3-4 terms time, will resorting still be available for us? or is this a one-time deal, do-it-now-or-miss-the-ship kinda thing?

edit: ooh i got my new siggy on :D

Zoom 08-08-2010 10:35 PM

*gasp* Nuh uh!! :faint:

only problem is, I don't qualify at all >_<

*counts terms on fingers*

As of this moment, we'll open "re-sorting" with every sorting. So you should be good to try again in between terms, another time.

We hope to run this concurrent with future sortings, so you'll have multiple opportunities.

I'd like to add something to the first post based on what people have been commenting. The staff recommendation is merely intended to buoy up the participation claims. I've already been asked to write one, and it literally says "So-and-so has attended at least two classes over 7 terms." If you attended someone's classes, you can ask them to recommend you. They will only say no if they cannot recall your participation.

Zoom 08-08-2010 11:04 PM

I have a question, is two the max number if classes per term you are allowed to put down as a reference? Because I'm pretty sure that if I wanted to submit the form once I hit 7 terms, I wouldn't have any classes to put down for my 1st term.

Lindzers 08-08-2010 11:10 PM

Wowwww. I think it's a great option to have, but I love my house and the people in it. :loved: I'm not sure I would ever want to change... Even if one of my future characters wasn't a typical Hufflepuff.

I think it's awesome that we have the choice to switch after 7 terms, though. ^_^

I'm not sure what you mean exactly, but if you're saying that you didn't participate in classes your first term, then it won't count towards your total of 7.

squidnie 08-09-2010 02:28 AM

This is really cool!

If I wasn't so attached to Ravenclaw, maybe I'd give it a try. :xd:

hpluvr037 08-09-2010 02:49 AM

Hats off to the staff. There are some SSers out there who are into the RPG enough that they want to explore new houses. I think these qualifications you guys put in place are right on. Keep up the great work!

Lizasaurus 08-09-2010 02:50 AM

I have been thinking about this since I saw the thread... :worried:

I've thought of dropping JD a few times, but I think I'm gonna play him out til he graduates, which will be the end of next year. But even then, I don't think I'd want to leave Ravenclaw

:mwaha: Ravvies Rules :D

Harry Potter Freak 1 08-09-2010 03:30 AM

I want to, though I can't because I don't think I've done 7 terms. I lost track sometime last year... I wish I could just drop out of RPG and then make a completely new character who this time, I can keep track of.

Lockhartian 08-09-2010 04:10 AM

Oooooooh....that's interesting indeed.

Though, I don't know...I love my house...so...yeah...probably not for me. [/er, I mean, Treyen's house :P]

But it's a great idea ^_^

Maxilocks 08-09-2010 04:21 AM

I want to get re-sorted. x3

....

I can't believe I just said that. I love Gryffindor and Gold like... mad. *HUGS THHHEEMMM*

xD

SlytherclawPoet 08-09-2010 04:22 AM

As much as I love this idea, I would never want to be anything but a Slytherin.

jecca 08-09-2010 05:39 AM

this is freakin great.. But..am not sure if i'll have the retake of the quiz..:( Ohh, I'm loving mah house...

Angie 08-09-2010 06:05 AM

OOOHH INTERESTING!

This is something I'm going to give some serious thought. I LOVE Ravenclaw, but my current character does not fit in that house, sadly. So since I qualify, I'll consider it. =D

Ama 08-09-2010 06:16 AM

I think most of you are missing the point. :P It has nothing to do with being unhappy with your house. Nothing.

-Ahem- Anyway. :D HEHE.
I find this soooo exciting, I just wish I qualified! :xd: Better start joining the school RP... But this is absolutely awesome, I'd love to experiment with charries from all different houses. <3
& To those who fit the requirements... Go for it!

Jokun 08-09-2010 06:56 AM

o wow this awesome i can't wait to see who decides to change houses

Davvy_Wavvy 08-09-2010 07:03 AM

whaaaaaaaaa?

hmm..... not for me, I don't think...I donno...

I love HufflePuff too much, almost 6 years as a Puff, I can't give up my yellow puff powerrrrrr

Wenzlebug 08-09-2010 08:39 AM

This is really cool. But I have only participated for 5 terms. So two more terms... and the re-sorting will happen if my new character doesn't fit as a Huffie. xD.

Buggy-Boo 08-09-2010 04:14 PM

that's pretty cool! I don't qualify yet! but that's pretty cool!

PhoenixRising 08-09-2010 04:26 PM

bahh... I'd sooo do thisss :xd:

LOVE Hufflepuff, don't get me wrong... But I think this is a great opportunity to challenge yourselves to create a character 'outside your norm'. =]

Do this if you qualify. That's my two cents for the day.

*looks to Ern* I can do this too, right? :shifty:

thats it exactly. it depends on how you make your characters, but to me i always found it easiest to just create one with all their quirks and their histories and whatnot regardless of house. this time its easier because you have all this freedom and the hat will adjust according to your charrie's personality, not the other way around :)

Biochemkris 08-09-2010 05:09 PM

I was a Claw as a student, but spent more time in Slytherin as staff, so I think I'm going to take the plunge and go completely over to the dark side.

Silly. You aren't currently IN a house, because you're staff. So resorting you would do no good at this moment. But should you ever leave staff (*wibble*), then you definitely can.

I've always wanted to try a new house. Maybe a Hufflepuff. I'd like that but I'm not in the right amount of terms. :( Oh well, maybe in 3-4 more.

LeapFrog 08-11-2010 02:11 AM

Holy cow, resorting! I'm fine being a Ravenclaw, though!

Looneybird 08-11-2010 06:15 AM

If you're getting re-sorted, you'll have to change characters. Because it wouldn't be canon for your character to change houses, would it. ^_^

Slytherin Fox 08-11-2010 06:38 PM

This is very interesting, but I do have a question. Is this sorting going to be good for only the upcoming term, or is it going to be a forever thing? Because while it is intriguing to play someone in another house, I don't know if I would want to be stuck in that house forever.

If that makes sense! :)

It mentions up there somewhere that you would need to play another 7 terms to be eligible again after a switch.

edit: found it!

Voldetemps 08-11-2010 09:37 PM

Reading all this makes me sad. As if we were speaking of a new broom or something.

I have always had great respect for the Sorting Hat. That precious, ancient object, by which the founders speak to us.
Unpredictable, eccentric. Speaking the language of the subconscious.
Sorting is an initiation ceremony. Unique.

You turn the hat into an ordinary machine. Push the right buttons and you get what you want.
Wouldn't it be more honest to make the houses editable? Why all those questions when you can order the house you fancy today?

cake.ninjak 08-12-2010 09:47 AM

I have a question regarding all of this: You have said that (or at least, I understood that), if a person doesn't attend classes in their character's first year, then it won't count toward their 7 terms. Are you saying, then, that attending classes is the only important part of the RP? What if someone is incredibly active in the RP, but for whatever reason, they just didn't attend classes? Would they still be considered ineligible?

I'm not saying I'm interested, because I'm a creature of habit and I'm not particularly interested in attempting to extend my horizons (I've only got a limited amount of creative juices ), but I think a lot of you know I don't exactly have the greatest track record when it comes to attending classes. What if I was active for 7 terms, but I just didn't have the time to attend classes or do any of the homework/take exams? What then?

It's a great idea... quite original, I actually haven't seen it on any of the other sites that are around the place... I probably wouldn't do it, but even if I'd have to wait to get sorted for the first time!

Rawr! 08-14-2010 06:08 AM

I honestly thought that we were always able to do this. I guess not. So this is new, then? The expectations are exactly how I thought they would be.
It's kinda crazy to see all these admins switching from a house they've been in forever. Especially since they'll have to carry out that new house for another seven terms. Quite the dramatic change.

I don't think I could ever leave Slytherin though, even if I was eligible. I signed up for this site with the hopes of being sorted into Slytherin.
But then again, I seem to come up with Gryffindor-like charries...hm.
Well, I'm only about to enter my fourth term so I shouldn't even bother to start thinking about it now. I've got a load more planned out for my current Slythie charrie. :shifty:

You turn the hat into an ordinary machine. Push the right buttons and you get what you want.
Wouldn't it be more honest to make the houses editable? Why all those questions when you can order the house you fancy today?

O_o
I think that's a very good point. I mean, user-wise it should be permanent, right? Because we can only ever be true to one house but I think for our charries we should be able to change houses.

Thing is, even though being able to edit your house as you please would be nice, having to stay in one house for at least seven terms is more of an opportunity than you would think. And being able to change that house and stay in it for another seven terms is even better.

For example, if you were originally sorted into a house you didn't want, you'd now have to make a charrie that is suitable for that house that you wouldn't have ever created had you gotten the house you wanted. And you could have loads of fun with that charrie and end up being grateful that you got sorted into the house you did. So it gives you an opportunity to RP out of the norm. But then seven terms is a long time and maybe you would like to try something else, so this re-sorting is a good idea as well. And it gives you another seven terms to...expand your horizons.

But if you could edit your house whenever you please, not only might it make things very confusing, but many people wouldn't think much about RPing a charrie in a different house, which can be a lot of fun. And I'm sure there are many more reasons that I can't think of right now because I'm half asleep and I need to get to bed.

Exactly. Look at our profiles. What do you see?
User name, house, and then, down below, in a small font: RPG name. I always thought this had a meaning.

I am aware, I am speaking as a hard-core non-RPGer. But still.
I, Taxus, am a Slytherin. And I have to admit, I will never accept someone who changed their house as a fellow Slytherin, Renegades.

Who are we actually talking about?
You know, the more I think about it, the more I get the impression that this is some kind of a consolation prize; for those long time members who never got a badge, never became a professor, etc.
And I really ask myself if it's worth to wreck a principle like the uniqueness of the sorting for the sake of a handful of bored RPGers.

Mhmm. To say it the other way round: someone has a limited imagination and tries to solve this problem by changing the rules of the game.

Do you remember your own sorting?
We all were newbies, really thrilled, impatient. Childish, in a way. Innocent.
Offering that calculating way of sorting just kills that innocence.
That's what makes me most sad.

Kind of pointless, all that rambling, since we're not allowed to talk about Magic, here at SnitchSeeker. Because, that's what it is all about. Magic.

[/myblabla]Sorry, had to, in my eyes, this is a violent act and it disturbs me deeply.

(doesn't really expect an answer)
Heh, you know, there's that question, always the same. Why no poll? Why do you never ask us for our opinion.

Good grief Alex! You practically wrote a novel!!

I personally would love to get re-sorted because I actually cheated (sorta) so I could get into Slytherin. Not that I don't love it, but I wish I'd have answered them more truthfully.

Unfortunately, I think you're sort of missing the point here. The sorting exists as a function of the RPG, although all members are encouraged and welcomed to participate. Some people will take the sorting and will consider themselves as they answer each question, but we find a great many people who take the sorting do so with a specific character in mind.

It stands to reason, then, that people who are sorted using a specific character will want their next character to be sorted. It doesn't cheapen the experience for you or for anyone else because their decision to re-sort is solely their own and reflects on their individual experience on this site. You choose not to re-sort, and that is fully your prerogative.

I guess it is also your prerogative to say you 'will never accept someone who changed their house as a fellow Slytherin', but as you claim to be someone who does not play in the RP and the site welcomes them as new Slytherins, I'm not sure how your militant stand will really affect what really is the personal decision of individual members.

Giving people the option to re-sort isn't the same as mandating it, so I'm not sure what polling would have accomplished. Those who want to do it are welcome, those who are not... need not do it. No harm, no foul. You've made your opinion abundantly clear in multiple posts, and now you're sort of denigrating into name calling that is unnecessary and pointed. If you want to pursue this line of discussion, my inbox is always open. Let's leave remaining discussion in this thread to those who are yet to comment or have something new to contribute.

Such a cool new idea!!! But.... I would never abandon my love for Slytherins and the color green, even if I DID hate it for the first few months I was in it. :D If I get super active again and get tired of it I may want to do it in the future tho...
