Less than a month after its release in theaters, Marvel-Disney’s
Guardians of the Galaxy has taken in more than $500 million. With this huge box office success, it’s no surprise that the fantastic soundtrack from the film has been No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart for two straight weeks.

First off, a big thank you to Marvel-Disney for giving a second life to cassette tapes! Well, maybe not a second life per se, but at least now kids growing up in a generation of mp3 will have a slight understanding of how music was listened to back in the day.
Speaking of casette tapes, it’s pretty obvious that such an iconic symbol of the movie would land the cover of the CD case for
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1. Upon opening up the CD you’ll find a small booklet revealing two spreads of concept art. This is something I wish they capitalized more on in the booklet, but two spreads is better than none.
I think it’s safe to say that whether you’ve seen the movie or not, you’ll enjoy the soundtrack if you enjoyed the '70s. Most of the time you would hesitate playing music out loud in the office, but this sound track was definitely welcome in my office environment with many “I remember that!” comments being tossed around. All in all these are classic tracks that have been given new life to a new generation that has unfortunately been stuck with sometimes not so good music. Let’s hope that these tracks will inspire some better music moving forward.
