What subplots or scenes aren't necessary for a TV series format?

Writing a script for a TV Series, particularly a series that is much anticipated, can put a lot of pressure on the writers. They would want it to be perfect, with one scene leading up to the other in the most entertaining way to hold your attention. However, oftentimes we see that this leads to an unnecessary drag in arriving at a crucial storyline. In turn, audience members lose interest or simply put ‘'zone out”. One way to avoid this would be to exclude scenes that are deemed “filler scenes”.

In this thread, we encourage you to share your thoughts about which scenes would be an unnecessary fit while keeping in mind that each of the books will be adapted into one season.

I think all the scenes from the books are necessary to be in the show because that's how the story was written.

I think the S.P.E.W campaign Hermione did shouldn't be required in the TV series. As long as Winky appears, that alone should be enough to drive Hermione's compassion and will to stand up for elves.

The book went into her trying (and failing) to form a club. Since the club never took off, she went more into campaigning via actions, which showed better, and tied things up with generosity and respect to elves paying off in the final book.
