Dumbledore’s Sexuality and Canon

One of the most discussed aspects of Albus Dumbledore outside the pages of Harry Potter is the revelation of his sexuality after the original books had already been published. For some readers, this may have added new depth to an already complex character; for others, possibly the lack of explicit exploration within the text itself raised questions about what truly counts as meaningful representation.

This thread seeks to facilitate a conversation about the distinction between author commentary and on-page canon. Does revealing an important aspect of a character’s identity outside the narrative meaningfully contribute to representation, or does representation require visible inclusion within the story itself? How do modern audiences evaluate representation differently from when the books were first released? :gaypride:

Your Potterdom Mods await with great anticipation, the contributions that you make!
