THE BOY WHO LIVED

“Hermione” Someone shook her out of her sleep. Hermione Granger woke up and saw Ronald Weasley was beside her bedside, looking dreadful.

“What’s wrong?” asked Hermione groggily.

“Harry…Harry…” stumbled Ron, he looked away. “Harry’s disappeared!”

Hermione gasped. “WHAT? Are you sure he’s not in the boy’s dormitory?”

“We checked there first! We’ve searched the whole castle.” Ron replied. “His Firebolt [an international broomstick] and invisibility cloak is gone and the window was wide open and…”he trailed off not glancing at Hermione.

“What?” Hermione asked anxiously.

“There was a note on his bed sheets.” Ron pulled out a folded piece of parchment from his black school robes and gave Hermione the note.

Dear Ron and Hermione

The time has finally come for me to fulfill the prophecy. The prophecy was: “the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches…born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies…and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not…and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives”

That was the prophecy made by Professor Trewlaney 18 years ago about Voldemort and I, before I was born. I am not going to inform you about my location for I do not want anyone to follow me and get hurt as many did in our fifth year.

I may come back alive, so don’t worry about me and concentrate on taking your year end exams. STAY AT HOGWARTS!!!

“So he’s gone?” asked Hermione, after she finished reading the letter. “He’s just gonna leave and try to kill Voldemort by himself?” she shrieked.

“Afraid so” Ron replied. “Dumbledore wants us to go to the Order with
McGonagall now!” Ron replied as he left so Hermione could change her clothes.

Hermione grabbed her wand and magically changed her clothes and ran out of the girls dormitory to the Great Hall. Ron was already there and so was Professor McGonagall, who was looking very pale.

“It’s a Portkey” she told them and showed the two the cup she was holding in her left hand. The two kids gathered around the older woman and touched the cup with a finger. A few seconds later, the three were transported to the outside of a Muggle [non-magical neighborhood].

As they waited, a house slowly popped out in front of their eyes. Professor
McGonagall knocked on the door and it slowly opened admitting them inside. They were now in the residence of Number 12 Grimmauld Place.

They walked into the kitchen where it was packed full of the Order of the Phoenix members. The atmosphere was very tense and silent, like a funeral with a few whispers among the Order members.

Hermione pulled out the note that Harry had written and set it on the small
kitchen table. A couple of people muttered to themselves about how insane Harry was. A hand patted her shoulder as if to comfort her. Hermione turned to face the person and it was none other than Albus Dumbledore. He looked worried and that scared Hermione. She sat down in a vacant chair and buried her face in her hands.

“We must get into action now” Dumbledore said quietly causing everyone to pay attention to his every word. “I will track him down and I’ll inform you all where his location is…I want you to all get prepared for battle” he said in a quiet voice, his eyes were no longer twinkling, but instead were filled with worry.

The people in the Order nodded and left the room to do whatever they would do before the battle begun. Ron sat down in a now empty chair and pulled it up beside Hermione’s. “It’s going to be alright Hermione” Ron said trying to comfort her.

“Miss Granger and Mr. Weasley…will you please go back to Hogwarts and inform Miss Ginny Weasley for me?” Dumbledore asked them. He held out the same cup that was used before and Ron and Hermione teleported back to Hogwarts, in the Gryffindor Common Room.

“Bow Harry, bow to death, you will never escape this time” a voice echoed in Harry Potter’s head. A pale, small red eyed man faced him holding his wand directly towards his heart. “After so many years of waiting, I’ve finally been able to get rid of you” the man said cruelly. “Crucio” Voldemort softly muttered and his wand emitted a soft beam of light. Voldemort thought to himself. How stupid can Potter get? Falling into all of our traps just like his fifth year. How did he not notice that we lured him to the cemetery. Voldemort smirked and turned to watch his rival in pain.

Harry screamed when the curse hit him. Pain streamed through his body. It felt like thousands of tiny needles were being poked into him all at the same time. The throbbing in his head increased and all Harry was capable of doing was yelling in agony. Voldemort watched with no mercy. An evil little smirk played over his lips as he watched the 17 year old boy being tortured.

The pain was gone as rapidly as it came. Harry gasped as he caught his breath. Air. Air was all he needed right now. He glanced around at his surroundings. It was not very pleasant. He was encircled by almost 35 deatheaters that could kill him in a second just with a two word spell. Dementors were hovering about outside the circle of Deatheaters. Voldemort was a meter in front of him his wand facing Harry, who was thinking his last thoughts. I’m sorry everyone he thought to himself. I didn’t even say goodbye…I’ll be joining my parents soon. A tear trickled down his dirty cheek leaving a clean track.

“Harry Potter, dieing on May 8th” Voldemort mocked. “He’s going to die and all he can do is cry.” Cruel harsh laughter tainted the air. The Deatheaters were enjoying every moment of this. Their Master’s enemy was finally going to be beaten, once and for all.

The large group of Order of the Phoenix members held there wands in front of them. Careful not to make a noise they spied on the scene in front of them. A direct charge attack would be the most stupid thing they could do right now. They glanced at all the Deatheaters and Dementors around Harry and Voldemort himself was mocking Harry. The group stood there trying to figure out what they could do to save Harry while watching the scene before them.

Hermione and Ron were back at Number 12 Grimmauld Place with Ginny who had been informed of what had happened. She was now pacing about the living room crying, thinking the worst possible things that could happen to Harry.

“Die now Harry James Potter” Voldemort smirked at his enemy. “Avada Kedavra” he yelled and a bright green beam shot towards Harry’s heart. Harry smiled at Voldemort and gradually fell to the ground.

Dumbledore ran forward and muttered the exact same curse and directed it to Voldemort who wasn’t expecting the attack. The rest of the Order fought against the Deatheaters and the Dementors who finally realized they were there. Voldemort took his last breath and fell to the ground just like Harry had.

Tears streaked down Dumbledore’s face as he stared at the finally defeated Harry Potter. He looked around and saw the bodies of the Deatheaters and Dementors scattered all around the floor. The Order who were now exhausted from fighting, came over and glanced at Harry who they had all were friends with and silently cried to themselves.

Dumbledore picked up the boy in his arms and stood up. “He fought a brave battle” he said between tears. “He shouldn’t have to be buried among the enemy” Dumbledore pointed his wand at Voldemort and turned his body into ashes, letting them spread in the wind. He did the same with the other dead bodies and stopped when he noticed a headstone carved and all ready for someone to be buried in. It read Harry Potter, the boy who lived. Dumbledore destroyed it and transported back to Hogwarts of Witchcraft and Wizardry to tell everyone about the boy who once lived.
