Hey I’m Jen, the author of this FF. I do not own any of the Harry Potter characters or anything belonging in the Harry Potter universe, JK Rowling does. This is my first go at FF so tell me what you think and leave bundles of comments! The Mirror He walked in haste through the dark corridors, his footsteps echoing off of the high stony walls and dark robes billowing like dark waves crashing at his feet.
He knew he shouldn’t go, knew that he should let well alone from the thing that would undoubtedly cause him unnecessary hurt and pain. So far he had managed to turn at last minute, but tonight was different. And so he carried on walking, wand held aloft to light his path through the castle, as each footfall rang through the dark with increasing need.
He came to the end of a long corridor and stopped. The door to his right was slightly ajar.
Inhaling deeply, Severus Snape took a tentative step over the threshold and lingered, before stepping inside.
It was still there, standing exactly where he knew it would be. The room was dark, with just a beam of silvery moonlight falling though one of the high windows, and scattered across the mirrors surface, causing inscriptions and carvings along its gold frame to become bathed in patches of shadow and light. The Mirror of Erised.
He knew what he would see of course, and he knew that the wound would be just as fresh, just as sore as it had been all those years ago.
Snape waited until he was standing directly in front of the mirror, then, taking a deep breath, he looked into it.
At first all he saw was his own reflexion staring back at him, lank haired and sallow skinned. Yet there was something different in the black eyes. Something sparkling with life.
And then the Mirror-Snape turned, and beckoned to welcome someone else into the frame.
He knew her at once. Emerald eyes glistening and fiery hair falling gracefully over one shoulder. He felt an unpleasant, familiar lump rise in his throat.
Lily Potter walked to the Snape in the mirror. For a minute all they did was gaze at each other. Finally they grasped each others hand, holding them between them as they continued just to gaze, to adore each other in their timeless bliss.
Snape hardly noticed when his wand fell to the floor with a loud clatter, extinguishing the light it gave out. A large tear rolled down his sallow cheek, but he didn’t wipe it away. Never before had Snape felt anything like this pain, this unbearable agony at watching what he’d lost so long ago.
Tears flowing rapidly, he sank to his knee, never taking his eyes off the scene in the mirror. Sobs came in violent torrents, threatened to engulf him, to tear at his throat and fill his lungs. But he didn’t care.
“Lily,” he moaned, “Lily”
He sat there, staring at the lovely woman and his mirror self until a gentle hand on his back made him freeze.
“Severus,” said the old, kindly voice, “time to go.”  | |

Hermione sat alone in the library, looking intently at the large book lying open in front of her. She was trying to read, but she couldn't. She was absentmindeldy fiddling with the necklace around her throat, which had now become a part of her. She felt that it was her life support, that taking it off would result in her gasping for air, and acheing for breath.
She became aware, somehow, of another presence. When she looked behind her, it was to see Nearly Headless Knick looking intently at her, his head tilted to one side at a slighlty more dangerous angle than usual.
" Hello Hermione!" He said brightly when he saw she had noticed him. She jumped a little as his booming voice crashed through the quiet library. Madam Pince shot him a venomous look. "Oh, hello Nick," Hermione replies in a little voice. Nick's eyes softened. "I'm sorry," he said. " I didn't mean to startle you." "No," said Hermione, " No, you didn't."
There was a little pause.
" But there is something toubling you," said Nick. It wasn't a question. He waited in silence for her to speak. And, strangely, Hermione felt she could. He was a ghost, was he not? He had experienced human emotions a thousand times in a thousand different ways. He had felt, and he had observed. He was living, yet not so. She felt she could conceal a part of hersel in Nick and he would never tell another soul, living or departed.
" Yes, i am," she admitted. Again, his features softened. He didn't promt her, but she continued. " You see, there is someone that, well, someone that i love actually..." she trailed off.
" Ah!!" bellowed Nick, again causing another venomous look from Madam Pince. "Yo ung love!" he expressed proudly, beaming. But then his face fell slighly. "But why do you look so glum?" He asked. "May i enquire as to who the recipient of your young heart is?"
Ahh. Now, Hermione felt as if she could tell Nick anything, but he was, afterall, the Gryffindor ghost. How would he react if he knew it was a Slytherin? She decided to take the bull by the horns and just spit it out.
" It's Draco Malfoy," she said slowly.
Nick's featured dropped. "Ah." He said. "Yes, well i can see why that might be a problem." He nodded, speaking equally as slowly as Hermione had when she had made her confession.
He paused.
And then, to Hermione's surprise, his features brightened again. "Well you must do something!" he said, happy once more. Hermione's brow furrowed. He tutted. "Don't you see?! It doesn't matter!"
"I...err..what?" asked Hermione, who was for one as confused as she had ever been before in her life. "It doesn't matter!" He replied again. " You must persue it! In all my years of life (and death) i have discovered that love is the only important thing in life! When one is dead, one does not get to love. One can care, oh yes, but one can never love the way you would have when you were alive!"
Hermione thought about this.
" But Ron hates me," she argued. "Well, what did you expect, really?" said Nick, waving this away with a pearly hand. " But he'll come around." He smiled gently. " But, please, take my advise. You may live to regret it later." He smiled sadly and turned away, leaving Hermione sat alone again, more confused than ever.
Still, her hand wound round and round the comforting chain around her neck.

Harry reluctantly followed Ron as he stormed down the corridor. He had a feeling that Ron didn't really know where he was going, but that his anger was just carrying him on to wherever Draco might be.
They came to the Entrance Hall. It wasn't quite empty of the straglers leaving from breakfast, but emerging was the white haired boy that they had been serching for. Ron clocked him first.
"YOU!" He shouted, starting towards him. Ron ignored the curious glances coming from the other students, but Harry found it slightly more difficult. Although he was angry, he would rather not do this in public if he had the choice; which he obviously didn't, seeing as Ron was now hurtling at top speed towards Malfoy.
"What is wrong with you?!" Ron roared at Malfoy. He looked slightly shocked, but quickly composed his face into a smooth smirk.
"Far less than that of you, im sure," sneered Malfoy.
"You know what i mean!" Said Ron. "You evil, little plotting -"
"Look Weasley," Malfoy almost yawned. "Usually, that would be a compliament. But would you mind telling me what i've done this time? How can i enjoy this if i dont know what your so red about?" He chuckled. Harry glanced at Ron.
Malfoy was right. Ron WAS red. A LOT.
"You know what!" said Ron. People were definatly staring now. "Sending Pansy to do your dirty work! You being an idiot is one thing, but trying to get to Harry with a girl is below the belt!" He was wagging a finger at Malfoy, who's expression was unreadable.
"How did you think that would even work anyway! Harry would never go for Pansy! She's an ugly, pug-faced, evil Slytherin! No one would fall for that one!Especially not Harry." he scoffed.
Harry was dimly aware of the further argument that ensued. Something had caught his eye. Something terrible.
Pansy had emerged from the Great Hall, and from the look of her face, had herd every word that Ron had said. Her eyes were unusually wet, and a tear was already halfway down her cheek. She grasped her books tightly, gave Harry a saddened, disappointed look, and hurried past them.
As Ron and Malfoy continued to argue, Harry couldn't shake her expresion from his face. He knew, from that look, that Malfoy had had nothing to do with the notes and Pansy...
