Wiseacre's Wizarding Equipment

Gerard was not a patient person. Yes, he very much came across as laid back and laissez-faire, but when he wanted something he wasn't used to waiting. So when he'd handed his camera across the counter to be repaired, he'd slipped an extra few sickles to them, with a raised eyebrow and a voice that very much said he wanted the camera done today. And he would be waiting. Though the man could be charming, he found it was often easier and quicker to just hand the money over. "I'd have been offered an espresso if I was in Paris," he bemoaned loudly as he wandered away from the desk to look at some of the other things that were on offer in this shop, questioning once more why he'd decided to make London his home for the last few years. |
Quote:
Tav followed along after another gent, probably around his age or perhaps older, as he rummaged through his bag to locate the camera rolls he knew to be in there. There was a lot of clinking and clanging coming from within, and he was regretting having used an extendable charm in order to hold all of his artwork. But finally, he pulled a triumphant hand out - camera rolls and a few wrapped lollies in it's grasp. Just in time too, as the other man seemed to be moving along so Tav stepped up to hand over his request. He was not in a rush, but he also knew the chance of coming back to Diagon Alley in the next week around time spent with the girlfriend and classes was... slim. So even with the apparently urgent request in front of him, he figured it was probably worth killing time around here anyways. Especially when the other patron's words finally caught up with him. hm.. coffee DID sound good. And luckily for him, the lollies in his hand were different coffee flavors. Tav turned towards the other guy now perusing shelves as he stepped away. "I've got an espresso flavored candy. Want it?" As he popped a caramel macchiato in his own mouth. |
Quote:
Standing up straight, Ged turned to the other man. Admittedly, he hadn't noticed him enter the shop, so wrapped up in his own world as he was, and it was only the fact that he directly spoke to him that made Gerard actually take him in. And take him in he did, head tilted as he looked over the man's form, before eyes landed on the lolly he was holding. It was a beat or two before he responded, a beat or two to size up the offer. "As I lack other options, I guess candy will have to do," he eventually said, before taking the proffered sweet. "Grazie," he added his thanks as he unwrapped it carefully, before vanishing the wrapper. "Though, maybe I should be suspicious of the stranger offering it to me." Gerard mused, eyes alight even as he put the sweet in his mouth. "Isn't that what they drilled into us as children?" |
Quote:
Except then the offer was being accepted and Tavion relinquished the candy to the other before smiling again. "You're welcome." At least... he was pretty sure that's what the word meant that the other had used. A look of puzzlement crossed his face, suspicious? Of him? After years of being told he was the softest of the Sawyers, it was interesting to hear anyone say something like that - even if it also seemed to be in jest. "My parents never really drilled that lesson into us. My dad was usually the person handing out food to strangers wherever we went." Which ... sounded even odder now that he'd said that out loud. "Your parents were probably wiser." |
Quote:
Gerard raised an eyebrow. "A philanthropist?" he offered, curious about why someone would seemingly give away food to strangers. The only other thing he could think was a chef, though a chef that offered food for free was surely not a good business head. As for his own parents being wise, Ged shrugged and plucked a lens from the shelf, turning it over in his hands. |
Quote:
Seeing the other male handling a lens reminded Tav they'd both shown up for similar camera related problems. Being the ever curious individual that he was, he couldn't help but inquire further and try to continue conversation. It made time pass faster, didn't it? "I noticed you're here for a camera fix. Did you drop it? Unruly sibling smash it?" The last he understood only too well. |
You know who Nadia had been going over her list of supplies to see what she still needed. Her cauldron and any potions supplies would be gotten with Daddy Adi, who insisted he’d know the best to pick up for her and Dy with all his experience with them. And she was still debating what type of creature to bring to Hogwarts as her companion if she did. There were always the ones under Aunt Hads’ care in the stables that she could be around and help out with. Raj had certainly made it clear he enjoyed those moments best. So, Wiseacres it was to get her supplies for some of her other classes, the incoming first year coming in from the sunny summer weather and stepping into the shop after letting someone else exit before her. There were several items that were supposed to be there from her list for astronomy lessons so that was her focus. Though she was already seeing items that might be of further interest as she made her way over to where she thought she spotted telescopes. |
Quote:
A howler? Whatever that was, it looked like something she didn't want to get involved in. They had a games aisle, and even though she wasn't familiar with any of them, she browsed them anyway. She finally came upon an aisle of telescopes, which grabbed her interest seeing as she was supposedly taking some kind of class where'd she use them. There was a girl her age there, and had Nora been in any better mood, she might have greeted her right away. A few seconds passed. "Hi," she finally said, a tone of awkwardness to her voice. Ahem. "Hogwarts student?" Hopefully people here didn't get all weird about stranger danger or anything like that... |
Quote:
“What about you?” she asked curiously, turning the question back on her companion. The girl wasn’t going to assume anything for perhaps she wasn’t quite as old as she was. Or going to one of the other schools and just shopping in London. |
Quote:
"This list isn't exactly filled with what I'm used to buying," she continued. She had taken her supply list out her pocket again, thinking that she might as well tackle a thing or two. So far, she had spent her entire trip to the alley thinking about how this whole thing (Hogwarts, that is) was a super bad idea. "You look like you kind of have an idea of what you're doing." Her eyes looked toward the telescope the girl had picked out and placed in her basket. "I'm Nora, by the way." |
Quote:
“Wait…are you a muggleborn?” she asked without realizing how it might sound. “I mean…are you new to magic? It’s totally okay if you are. My grandpa was. But I can see how it might be a bit overwhelming.” And she was going a mile a minute which could also be overwhelming. “Sorry about babbling,” Nadia apologized, taking a deep breath to try and slow herself down. “Nice to meet you , Nora…I’m Nadia. And only because I've been around magic all my life." |
Quote:
Nadia. Was every girl her age named something that started with an N? Was that a thing in the magical world or something? She was Nora, she'd just met Nancy, and now she was meeting Nadia. Apparently, all these N-named girls would be dorm mates if they all ended up in the same house. "So, uhh, we just shop for the items on this list, board the train when it's time, and they drop us off at the castle, right?" she asked. It sounded easy enough. She also had her calendar ready so she could mark off the days and count down until she got to go home for Christmas. |
Open Post ^_^ Violeta Escalante was here on a mission. She had a list full of things she wanted and a grandfather full of money. The old man waited outside while she dove into a shopping adventure. The old man was, well, too OLD to be shopping. Violeta was in her prime at TWELVE years old. You heard it right! She was no longer eleven. She was also an incoming SECOND year Gryffindor. Delicately flicking her long, thick brown locks behind her shoulder, the young Escalante took her sunglasses off and tucked them back into her designer purse. In exchange she brandished a list. Invisibility cloak. Necessary if she wanted to sneak around. Probably won’t fool her dad. Hmm. Might wait on that one. Rememberall. Definitely a NEED because she was notorious for forgetting about homework. Not her fault they all had different deadlines. Rude. Anti-Burglary buzzar for her new broomstick. She was getting a new one and she trusted no one. Then again, her dad is the Flying Instructor. Maybe he could keep hers safe. Howler. For yelling at people without exhausting her beautiful voice. Last, a MAGICAL CAMERA!!!!!! She’s been dreaming of one ever since she got into taking selfies. And now that she has a baby brother and he was starting to walk and all the new Hogwarts adventures, she had more reasons for a camera. It was the main reason she brought her grandfather. Her dad and mom would NEVER agree to buy her all of these things. No. She had to save up her money in order to learn the “value” of things. And that just because she came from money it doesn’t mean she’ll be spoiled. That’s what grandparents were for. Grandpa Phabian ADORES her and he had no patience when it came to her constantly SIGHING. Easy-peasy. Now. To the first thing on her list. The invisibility cloaks. |
SPOILER!!: Violeta Already close to the Invisibility Cloaks was one Regulus G. Prince. He was once again stuck in Diagon Alley, bored, and trying to entertain himself. For most of the morning he had been determinedly completing a crossword in a discovered Daily Prophet, only to find himself stuck, realise he'd made several errors early on, and decided to go wandering instead (though he'd torn the page out and pocketed it, to fix and retry later). The novelty of sticking his hand between the folds of the Invisibility Cloaks and seeing it disappear had long worn off, but he was back here anyway as part of his routine circuit of the Alley. Only, he never got to the Cloaks, because when he was still only just in the vicinity, he passed a shelf of nearby Sneakoscopes, and one started to light up and spin and whistle. But only one of them. Though Regulus would not call anything he was doing, planning on doing, or had been doing until that moment especially untrustworthy, the Sneakoscope evidently disagreed, and was unlikely to listen to reason. He stepped forward and grabbed it, clamping his hands over it to muffle the isolated furore. Sure, it was no longer spinning, and the lights were now just making his hands look like a ghostly disco, and the whistling was a little more restrained... but Regulus would have to put it down again at some point. He looked around, up and down the aisle, and saw someone else appear at the end of it. "This thing is broken," Regulus called out to them, by way of... greeting? |
SPOILER!!: Regulus Well on her way towards the invisibility cloaks, Violeta stopped at the sound of a whistle. She slowly brought the list down from her face, only exposing her bright green-hazel eyes. Sparkle, sparkle. She raised a questioning eyebrow at the boy. What, did she look like she worked here? “I don’t work here,” she voiced. So it wasn’t her problem-- Oh, WAIT a minute! In her nice summer sandals, she hurried over to the boy. “Did you break it?” OOOOH! As she took a closer look to where she was at, it belatedly clicked what shelf they stood by. Sneakoscopes. “Are you up to something?” she said, a sly smile slipping onto her face, wiggling her eyebrows. What was he up to? |
Quote:
“Pretty much,” she confirmed, “though there are other things to do, like Florian’s Ice Cream and the bowling alley.” Fun things besides shopping in the wizarding world. Just in case she was thinking it was all about school. Not to mention Nadia thought both things were also muggle too…familiar things. |
Quote:
"Ice cream and bowling?" she said, the words coming out as more of a statement than a question. So the people of the magical world did normal things after all? Somewhere in her mind, she'd gotten the impression that they spent their days casting spells and brewing potions. Well, they probably did those things, too... "That actually sounds really fun! Do you ever stop at either place?" she replied. Nora wasn't really a fan of bowling, but if it'd bring back some normalcy to her life, she was willing to give it a try! |
Quote:
"No," Regulus said, somewhat evasively, in reply to both questions, although he could understand why the sight might seem curious. But then, seeing the look on her face, Regulus returned her a similar, crafty little smile. "Or else the others might be going off too, wouldn't they?" Were some sneakoscopes more sensitive than others? He thought maybe, but didn't know for sure the only kind he'd ever seen were heavily modified, otherwise they'd have been going off constantly, given who it was that owned them. "It's weird - it just woke up as I was passing. Do you know how to shut them up?" Unorthodox suggestions also welcome. Maybe there was a heavy book somewhere in here that they could smash it with. Not that she appeared untrustworthy enough to have this unexpected problem on a regular basis, or anything. It was just, she had been the only one passing at the time, so... |
Quote:
Nadia nodded in confirmation as her companion responded to her news. It wasn’t like they were totally different. Well unless one was from a pure blood family that kept to themselves. “Been to the bowling alley at least once for a birthday,” she answered thinking back to past experiences. “But Florian’s is a regular stop whenever we’re in London. They have quite a few great flavors and very yummy.” And she wasn’t even the biggest sweet tooth in the family. “You should definitely check it out.” |
Quote:
Oh, wait...wizarding children had birthday parties, too? Again, she wasn't sure exactly what she was expecting of wizarding people. Maybe that they'd be dressed like Merlin and spend their days swishing around a wand and nothing else? Picturing them bowling gave Nora something familiar to hang on to. She realized she was too lost in thought and that the conversation had steered its way more toward the ice cream parlor. "Oh, yeah, it's a definite stop on my list," she replied. She frowned as she remembered her school supply list. "I better buy some of these things, too, or my mom's not going to be too happy with me." At least the ice cream would give her something to look forward to. "So what are you looking forward to the most?" she asked. It'd be interesting to hear what someone more familiar with magic thought about the school. "My mom tells me their groups called houses that I'll get sorted into. You know anything about that?" Nora didn't have a preference, because she knew just as much about one house as she did the other. That is to say...nothing. |
Quote:
Her gaze returned to the boy. “It is weird.” She didn’t know how to shut it up though. Usually she’d toss one of her sandals to shut up her cousin Carlos whenever he sang the ancient-but-goodie I Will Always Love You. He was going to make her lose her hearing one day. Anyway, she figured that wouldn’t work here. “You could hide it in one of those.” She pointed at the Invisibility Cloaks. Did they have pockets? |
SPOILER!!: Nora Good…ice cream always made things better. And Nadia figured it couldn’t hurt someone who might be nervous about her new world like her new friend. She couldn’t help the giggle escape at Nora’s comment about shopping and her mom. “Probably a good thing,” she agreed, reaching for a telescope from the shelf nearby identical to the one already in her basket and handed it to the other girl. “This is as good a place to start since Astronomy is required for the first few years.” What was she most looking forward to? That was kind of a loaded question, at least in Nadia’s case, but she decided to be nice and keep it simple for Nora as not to overwhelm. “Well, I guess what we will be learning about…and hanging out with some magical creatures." Granted there were a fair few on the homestead and she’d interacted with others through Aunt Hads, but there were still plenty others to learn about. “Oh, and having some adventures.” The curious girl needed some new land to explore. “I do…” she answered with a nod. “There are four houses that students are sorted into in honor of the four founders of Hogwarts; Gryffindor lions, Hufflepuff badgers, Ravenclaw eagles and Slytherin snakes. They are your support and who you team up with to earn points for the House Cup. “ Not to mention where in the castle your dorms were. “My dads were in Gryffindor and Hufflepuff when they were in school. My elder brother is a Ravenclaw.” She herself was hoping for either lions or badgers when she was sorted. |

Perhaps that was another reason to visit his parents. The food was always better in Italy. Glancing over to the desk where he'd handed in his camera, a small smirk crossed Ged's face. "If only I could blame an unruly sibling," he started, amusement in his voice. "Alas, it was a work related incident. Advertisement campaigns can be a little... ah, how do you say... vivace? Ah - lively." The word came to him after a moment, even as his thoughts lingered on the shoot in question. "What about yours?" |
Chellie and Vera! Offering him a day to do whatever he wanted was a bold late birthday present. When Vera made the revelation, the blond was taken aback at first and he seriously had to think for a while about what Logan Paton Day would entail. After all, with great power comes great responsibility. Instantly he thought of all the things that would ultimately annoy Vera and make her regret not getting him an actual gift. But, surprisingly, he had settled on a simple day in Diagon Alley. Of course, the day started off with food, since one simply could not run around the alley on an empty stomach. After wolfing down food from a street vendor like there wouldn't be a tomorrow and making a pitstop at Florean's for ice cream, he made it known that there were a number of shops he wanted to scout out for potential gifts. Plus there was also a detour to Knockturn Alley he wanted to make, but he hadn't mentioned that detail just yet -- that was going to be a surprise. Wiseacre's, though, was one of the shops on his list. The place had plenty of neat trinkets and novelties that were cool to look at. Surely there was something there that he would end up finding useful that was within Vera's budget. Maybe they would get lucky and get a discount of some sort if Atlas happened to be working his shift. "So how much is too much price-wise?" Logan asked, aimlessly picking up a Sneakoscope and setting it down when it did nothing. "I know an invisibility cloak is not in the cards." That was truly unfortunate, but he understood those weren't cheap. |
