Daniel Radcliffe "The Woman in Black" US/UK DVD, Australia theatre release interviews
Daniel Radcliffe participated in a variety of interviews to promote not only the DVD and Blu-ray release of the Woman in Black in the U.S. and Canada this coming Tuesday, and the U.K. on June 22, but the theatrical release of the supernatural thriller in Australia today. Dan discussed why he chose to take on the role with IGNUK; Australia's SMH, TheFix, and Kyle and Jackie O. Show radio show; and Canada's Future Shop Tech Blog.
Highlights from those interviews, where Dan commented on his experience in Harry Potter, which actors' careers he'd like to emulate, and his work in Kill Your Darlings, can be read and heard below.
Daniel Radcliffe to SMH: ''I obviously love Harry, and love what it's done for me and the time it was in my life, but at the same time it's nice to hear people say that they are able to see you as something else,'' he says. ''I think that's a lot of people's experience of me generally, but particularly it seems on stage. And actually with The Woman in Black, that was what people said a lot: that they weren't thinking Harry Potter. That's always very nice to hear.''
'Even from before Potter I would always get 'old soul' and things like that,'' he recalls, ''and then definitely Potter accelerated even further my process of growing up.
''As a kid, the only time you spend around adults are as parents or teachers. Suddenly you're in an environment where they're co-workers and you're talking to them in a different way. So if me and [co-stars] Rupert [Grint] and Emma [Watson] seem slightly older than we are, that's why."
''I want to continue acting for as long as I can,'' he says. ''I love my job and I love being on set … And then in the future at some point I would like to direct.''
'People like George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon are people who I think manage to mix commercial and indie films brilliantly. The fact that George Clooney and all those guys do movies like the Ocean's movies, incredibly entertaining, very commercial films, which do really, really well, and they can then subsidise making Good Night and Good Luck or Syriana. That's what makes those guys' careers so exciting, I think, to follow.''

Tech Blog: You once stated your favourite movie is a David Niven wartime fantasy called A Matter of Life and Death, made 43 years before you were even born. What drew you to it?
DR: I love A Matter of Life and Death because it achieves so much visually and is one of the most impressive visually and imaginative films ever, and they didn’t have visual effects. What I love is when the frame freezes and you can still see the actors moving slightly. But it doesn’t matter because you suspend your disbelief and you don’t care.

Daniel Radcliffe to TheFix: "There's not anything out there I'd not do," [Radcliffe said]. "I wouldn't kill an animal," he revealed. "I've heard of actors before who were asked if they would kill an animal on screen. I definitely would never do something like that."
Daniel won't rule out doing more graphic horror films in the future.
"Absolutely, I'd do horror again, it would not put me off that it was gory, but it would have to be a very, very good script to justify the graphic imagery," he said.
On being nude again for Kill Your Darlings: "You just do it. It's just like getting naked in real life. You just pull your pants down," he revealed.
Daniel laughs at the thought of self-conscious actors who have routines to pump themselves up for nude scenes.
"I'm certainly not one of those guys, I have seen those actors that do a load of push-ups or sit-ups or start lifting things before they're doing a scene with their shirt off or something, and to be honest, it always just makes me laugh," he said. "I'm like, dude, if you didn't get big before now, you're not going to look that much bigger in two minutes' time!"
