Once again its time for a new Member of the Week!
This newest MotW is Slytherin HoH & Potions Prof. in our Hogwarts Role-Playing School. A New England girl, all the way: Biochemkris!! Dumbledore: How does it feel to be chosen as MotW? Biochemkris: It's pretty cool. Flattering, even! How long have you been a Moderator here at SS? Since the begining of last term. I think that was January And what is your role as Hogwarts staff? I'm the Potions Professor, I'm a Hogwarts ghost (formerly Ravenclaw house ghost), and I'm Slytherin Head of House. So, I pretty much just teach my classes and try to keep the Slytherins in line. I also help out with the school story. Is it hard to keep those Slytherins in line? Actually, the Slytherins are quite good this term Really? Excellent! I was expecting the Slytherin HoH job to be a lot more difficult
I think it's the Hufflepuffs who are causing all the trouble this term. (There were a few incidents with toilet paper.) Hufflepuffs? I thought they were the kind ones! Yeah, well, I do have one of them in detention right now (a Slytherin) *shifty* I guess they may learn when they don't win the House Cup lol. Unless they change their attitude - which can happen. So, how did you first find out about SS? A little over a year ago I was going to TheSnitch to get all my news and then decided to browse through their affiliate sites. I stumbled across SS and switched which site I got my news from. SS has a really awesome news section! Tell me, what's behind your member name? Well, my first name is Kristi and a lot of my family calls me Kris. I also happen to have a degree in biochemistry from the University of Maine. You do? You must be pretty smart!
So what do you do for work? I'm a biochemist. LOL
Well, my actual title is Laboratory Technician and I basically manage the lab. I'm in charge of ordering reagents (chemicals) and supplies, making sure we've got everything we need, telling people to put things back where they belong, etc. Then, I also have research projects that I work on and I assist our Prinicple Investigator with his experiments. What type of experiments? Our lab studies various proteins involved in mitotic spindle formation and chromosome segregation I guess I shouldnt have asked.
You make me feel a bit... uneducated. You could boil that down to cell division, but that's an over-simplification Well at least that I understand. lol
So, what is your favorite HP book and why? I'm going to say OoTP but, it only marginally beats out PoA. What's the tie-breaker? Just that one chapter, really: Snape
I love Snape, so that chapter was good and bad. How did you like PoA (movie)? I need to see it again. I'll enjoy it more the second time, I think. I think they did a really good job with the time constraints they had but, if I hadn't made my husband read the books beforehand, he would have been lost. Also, I abhored the ending (watching a second time won't change my mind about that).
But, overall, I enjoyed it. What HP character(s) do you relate to the most? Snape and Hermione
I tend to be a bit of a know-it-all and if I don't know something, I'll search everywhere to find an answer just because I have this insane need to know everything. I'm also told that I am bossy. So, that pretty much covers Hermione. As for Snape, well, I do tend to keep to myself and I am easily annoyed by stupidity. He's the potion master and I'm a biochemist so there's that connection. Not to mention the fact that I now have both of his jobs on SS. Dave (Hendrik), our last MotW had this question for you: "If you could be one article of clothing, what would it be and why?" It definitely wouldn't have anything to do with feet (such as socks or shoes). I'm kinda scared of feet. So, I think I'm going to go with a hat. Not only is it as far away from the feet as you can get but, it also satisfies my need to know everything because being on top of someone's head can give you a good vantage point for observing the world. So how old are you? And when did you first get into Harry Potter? I'm a quarter of a century. (I love saying that.) I turned 25 in February.
I got into Harry Potter in the begining of last year. I want to say it was around the same time the second film came out on DVD because my Mom bought it for me after I had seen the first one on HBO and I could have sworn it was in the New Releases section, but I could be wrong.
biochemkris: I saw the movies before I read the books. So now you've read all the books yup. I was hooked! Who do you think plays their part in the movies the closest to how you imagine them from the book? well, if you don't count appearances, I'd have to say Alan Rickman. He does a fantastic job of portraying Snape Snape is supposed to be younger and skinny isnt he? yes, and the hair is supposed to be greasy. And he's supposed to be pale with yellowish teeth. Who would you like to have replaced (if anybody)? hmmm... I don't think I'd replace anyone. I'm used to these people now. lol What are some of your hobbies? Aside from the insane amount of time I spend on SS, I also enjoy hiking, kayaking, snow shoeing, sewing, quilting, cross-stitching, reading, travelling, amateur radio, violin, dancing (not socially, but I take ballet during the school year and I'm taking my first modern dance class this summer). I love dancing on stage. Man, what a list! Do you have a secret talent? I can touch my tongue to my nose but, I think a lot of people can do that. Not much of a talent really, so much as I have a big tongue. LOL
[color=blue]lol. I can't do that! Fave books and movies? That's always a hard question because I read a lot of books and watch a lot of movies. For movie I think I'll go with "The Last Unicorn" and for book, other than HP, of course, it would have to be "The Vampire Lestat" You're married, right? When's your anniversary? Yes, for a year and 7 months. Anniversary's October 26th.
For our Honeymoon, we went to Colonial Williamsburg and Washington D.C. I'm into colonial American history.
For our first anniversary we went to London. We went to see the London Symphony. It was awesome! How would you describe your appearance? I'm 5'8", not too pale but light-skinned, pin-straight brown hair, green eyes. I clean up good but I normally look like blah lol @ blah
What would you ask the next MotW? It's lame, but I'm weird: What is your favorite color (or colour, if you prefer)? And finally: Who inspires you most in your life? My Mother and my Grandmother on my Dad's side. They are both really strong women. It would take me forever to to describe all the ways they inspire me. I don't even know where to start. Kris, thanks for giving me the chance to interrogate you! It was great fun!
Look out for our next MotW interview! It may be YOU!
PS. I only interview people on AIM, so if you don't have AIM, I'm afraid your chances are slim. Sorry! |

Believe it or not but Hufflepuff students that are causing so much trouble are mad because they weren't sorted into Slytherin. Consider yourself lucky! Great interview, I also started with the movies, and I can do you one better. I read the Order of the Phoenix before I read the other books. See you in Potions Class.

Wow! I read the books in order (only the first 4 were out) and I loved them so much that I hurried onto the internet to find out when the next book was coming out. I was really lucky because I only had about a 2 month wait or so.

Awesome interview! I must agree that dancing on stage is awesome! To me one of the best feelings in the world! (I am weird like that) It's just so fun to dance in front of people and you can really dance your emotions which is also a lot of fun! Thanks to biology this year I know what you were actually talking about.... shockers. Great interview Kris(ti) it's awesome getting to know more about the people of SS!

That interview was so cool! I wanted to ask you what you researched in your lab, and now i know! Do you study Chromosome Segregation in interphase, or when they are migrating in cell division?

Only during cell division. Our research is all about the mitotic spindle so, we study chromosome movement to the metaphase plate, the oscillations of the chromosomes once they align at the metaphase plate, and then, the subsequent separation of the sister chromatids during anaphase. Of course, once we start blocking the function of proteins, the chromosomes don't always move or align properly and that's how we draw conclusions as to how the proteins may actually function within the mitotic spindle apparatus. It's a difficult task, trying to characterize the functions of all the proteins, seeing as how there are thousands of proteins involved and some of them are very difficult to work with (believe me, I know this from experience *kicks Astrin*).

*huggles her Kris* Yay, Kris! You finally got your MotW thingy up, even if it was two interviews later. And you got to chat with Dumbledore... and he's wicked important, so ... yay on you.
I already knew most of this stuff, but I love that you're all famous now.

I really liked this interview. It was enlightening and informative. There were a lot of really good questions, and I liked the professional way Kris answered them.
