SSRPG Guidelines & FAQ

SSRPG Guidelines & FAQ
When it comes to the SnitchSeeker RPGs, there are many rules and guidelines to remember. In general, all SS Board Rules are to be followed, so please take some time to read through those rules and follow them to the best of your ability. These rules are in place so that everyone can have a great and safe experience here on SnitchSeeker.

There are additional guidelines that need to be remembered while role-playing in the SSRPG. To make everyone's lives easier, all of the SSRPG guidelines have been listed and linked in this thread for easy access. If there is something about one of the SSRPG areas (Diagon Alley, Hogwarts, and Ministry) that you have a question about, click on the "Show" button for the appropriate section text cut and see if the question you have is there. The answer to your question is just a click away!

If none of the links under the text cuts answer your questions or concerns, you are welcome to post them in this thread and receive an answer from one of the SSRPG staff members. If you do not wish to post in this thread, you may alternatively contact the appropriate Wizarding World RPG Admin via PM.

Old role-plays and character biographies can be found in our extensive SSRPG Archives, and current information can be found in our Resources.

If you have existing wizarding world characters and wish to post them beyond Diagon Alley, Hogwarts, and the Ministry RPGs, we strongly encourage going to the site's general RPG forum for some additional role-play fun! Furthermore, general resources for new and expert role-players can be found there as well.

I am think of posting in the school RPG next term and I want to start as a first year. I like my character I was using when I was playing last time I played. Can I make her a first year again?

While it isn’t strictly against the rules, I would like to advise against it nonetheless. For one, you already introduced this character within the school. There will be some teachers still present who were there when she was a first year initially. They won’t pretend she’s suddenly a first year all over again because that wouldn’t make chronological sense. Additionally, that character won a superlative in the school’s yearbook “most promising firstie”. She’s already been recorded as a first year for the term she won it. There wouldn’t be any reasonable explanation and those who may have met her may become discouraged she’s once again a first year and not in their bracket any further.

Creating a new charrie on the other hand can be quite fun. Who knows, you may grow to love the new one even more! Think of it as a fresh slate to rejoin the site and jump into all the new things the new term will have to offer. You can create a similar character if that feels more comfortable as well ^_^

This is me, as school admin, strongly urging you not to play the same character again as if she was never there when others do remember her and may have had interaction. In fact, I remember being in a few classes with that character.

I am working on a character for next term and thinking of using Sims 4 to make her. What do you guys think? She is going to be a first year so should I make her a child or teen? Also she will live in Glimmerbrook. Could I use that for her hometown?

I have a question about IC OWLS and/or NEWTS. My character would have completed 5th year last IC year, so she'd have taken the OWLS, presumably. How is that handled in the RPG? Are OWL grades assigned, or do I just make up what I think would have been reasonable marks for that character (or was there some OWL forum I should have been in and didn't see...)--or what?

I just wanted to check before my character might mention it to someone. Thanks!

Good question ^_^

OWLs and NEWTs used to be an official School RPG event here on SS where there was a separate forum dedicated to them and members of the appropriate years filled out questionnaires for the written portion and there were threads for the RP portion. Results were then PM'd to members via special owl accounts after school staff and a couple of other bells and whistles. At present, there is no plan in place to bring back the previous OWL and NEWT system.

This process was discontinued some time ago due to the evolving nature of the RP and is now left up to each individual RPer to come up with the results on their own. Which is really a long and round about way to say that yes, you can make up scores you think would be reasonable for your character
