Default Underground Chambers

Opening a well-hidden door in the dungeons allows you access to the many underground chambers beneath the castle. While this discovery may be exciting, it is important to move forward with caution -- hopefully you've come along with some friends, just in case something should go terribly wrong. No, you've thankfully not stumbled upon the Chamber of Secrets. But only Merlin knows what you'll find here.

You start off in a chamber containing a dusty table where seven bottles once rested. Whether you find that interesting or not, it is the two doors present in the room that play at your curiosity. Going through one door will take you into an antechamber that leads to a much bigger room. Here a large mirror can be found, which will reveal something interesting about yourself if you stand in front of it properly. The other door, however, stems off into a series of chambers. First you find yourself in a spacious room, though there isn't much to be seen besides a thick layer of dust (with a dash of decayed troll bone) on the floor. Carrying onward, a giant chess board is revealed (to play a life-sized game, one need only cast Reparo on the mutilated pieces) and then a room filled with an array of winged keys. Lastly is a chamber that is relatively harmless ... as long as the blue flames remain lit.

Perhaps you've learned about this place once in history class? It all seems oddly familiar. Hmm.

Considering he didn't attend Hogwarts, Joseph, when he wasn't teaching or grading, lately had been using any spare time he had to explore the castle. He had heard many tales about the place, that there were a number of secrets to discover. Today he was down in the dungeons, further expanding his mental map of the school.

The door that was surely meant to be missed easily didn't go unnoticed by the Ancient Runes professor. After all these years, he had become accustomed to picking up on minute details or noticing things that were out of place. So the man opened the door, paying no mind to the creaking, and stepped through the threshold.

Needless to say, he wasn't all that impressed by the chamber he was now in. There wasn't anything too intriguing about a dusty table, so his attention quickly diverted to the two doors that were present in the room. Which door should he venture through next, hmm? Left or right?

Indigo was always looking for empty, quiet corners of the castle. He liked to be alone, and he especially hated crowds. So he liked finding places where he could go to get away from the rest of the student population and be alone. In his two years at this school he had also discovered that what was there one year might not always be there the next. Likewise, sometimes there were new locations that he could have sworn weren't there the year before, or even the week before.

The lower levels of the castle usually had a lot of empty spaces like he was looking for. That was only slightly unfortunate, considering he lived at the very top. But as long as it was quiet, he wasn't complaining. Indigo was wandering through some slightly spooky chambers when he noticed that he wasn't alone after all. There was somebody just a few paces ahead of him now, though not a student. Must be one of the new professors, considering Indigo didn't recall seeing him before. Though, to be honest, Indigo hadn't been paying that much attention at the feast so he had no idea what subject he taught.

Indigo just sort of stopped in his tracks. He didn't say anything because a, he wasn't sure what to say, and b, he was suddenly anxious. Was he not supposed to be here? Was he going to get in trouble?

Blue eyes darted from right to left and then back again. Quiet mutterings in French escaped his lips, but they were barely audible and meant for himself. Over the years he had found that sometimes talking to oneself could be helpful in making a decision. Plus the room was eerily quiet, which was a bit unnerving to say the least.

Not that Joseph planned on staying in this specific room for much longer. He had made up his mind, deciding to give the left door a try. A few steps forward were taken, but then the man came to a stop. He had a sudden feeling in his gut that he was no longer alone.

Glancing over his shoulder, the professor took in the sight of the sixth year Ravenclaw. A bit of a smile played at the man's lips. "No need to stand there so quietly. I promise I won't bite," Flamel said to the boy with a lighthearted tone, his mind simultaneously sifting through names and faces he had taken the liberty of memorizing from his class roster. "Mr. Rousseau, yes?"

While Indigo was still deciding whether or not to just turn around and leave, it became clear that his presence had not gone undetected. And he wasn't getting in trouble, so that was great. What was more, this professor knew his name. Which was unfortunate, because Indigo had no idea what this professor's name was. He was new, and his name had probably been announced at the feast but Indigo hadn't really been paying attention. He nodded slowly. "Yes, that's me. It's, uh, Indigo."

How did one talk to a professor? Indigo barely knew how to properly communicate with people his own age. What was he supposed to say to a professor? He had to think of something. Standing here silently was not the best option. "I, uh, didn't know these chambers were here. Do you know where they actually go?" That was fine, right?
