Lower FloorsFrom the entrance hall down to the depths of the dungeons, there is much to explore in the lower floors of this historic castle. Don't mind the rats you may stumble upon the further down you go; they're minding their business like anyone else.
Whether you are brand new to Hogwarts or have been here a while, the Entrance Hall is always a breath-taking sight to see. Always memorable are the high ceilings, the colourful portraits on the walls, and the grand marble staircase. Various torches light the large room, keeping it nice and cozy at all times of the year. Arched windows atop the staircase, featuring the four Hogwarts Founders in all of their glory, bring in natural lighting as well.
This room branches off to the rest of the castle. If you are standing by the enormous oak doors and the House hourglasses, to the right are the doors that lead to the Great Hall. Next to them are doors that will reveal a broom cupboard and the basement corridor. Opposite is a door to a stairwell that will take you do the dungeons and another that will take you down a corridor where the staff room and other rooms can be found. Going up the marble staircase will take you to a corridor that connects to the moving staircase chamber. There is a lot to see here, so take your time exploring!

Idris had only just descended one of the staircases… well, lots of staircases because the Moving ones kept getting him for some reason. He kept on being deposited at the wrong corridors, but in the end, he managed to get off at the correct one. He was halfway down the marble staircase when the pink flouffball he was carrying let out a loud “MRRROW!”
“I know, Nessy. The staircases were being meanies but we’re here now!” Right on cue, the Gryffindor’s feet hit the last step, bouncing on the soles of his feet. He took a good look around, cradling Nesquik like a baby. “Rory and Oreo aren’t here as yet, it seems. Not a problem! We’ll just wait on them!” With that, the sixth year flopped down on a step and turned all his attention to his firstborn. “Do you think we should cancel our date with Rory and Oreo, and go keep Paully company? I know he needs time alone but…” Id’s lower lip quivered as mulled over the question. He hated not being at his boyfriend's side during such a difficult time.

Even though her common room was a lot closer to the entrance hall than Idris’, somehow he had managed to arrive there before Aurora. She knew that she wasn’t running late, but hoped that he hadn’t been waiting long for her. She didn’t like to keep people waiting.
Oreo at her feet, she made her way over to where he was sitting at the bottom of the stairs. Clearly he hadn’t seen her yet. She frowned at what he said. Not because he was thinking about cancelling their date, but because of Paul. She knew what had happened, what he had gone through. She knew he was really struggling. And she was happy that he had the support system he did. And she was a part of it.
Sighing, she joined him at the step, Oreo with her. ”You know, you can always cancel for Paul if you ever need to. Me and Oreo will understand.” And as if he actually HAD understood what she had been saying, Oreo replied with a ”meow.” Aurora nodded. ”See? It’s okay.” But if he decided to stay, she knew that their friendship date could provide the perfect distraction from what was going on with his boyfriend.

Aurora had nothing to worry about; she wasn’t late, Id was just early. He usually was to just about everything. He was so preoccupied with his conversation with Nequik, he didn’t hear the soft patter of paws or the heavier footsteps that belonged to Rory. Especially since Nessy was ‘Mrrrowrring’ his response. Before the Gryffindor had a chance to consider and provide his own insight, he heard that familiar voice that was Aurora’s.
“Rory!” His face brightened up as he saw the pair. “I know you guys would but Nes says that we shouldn’t cancel. And he’s right. You and Oreo are important to us too, you know.” Id set the pink flouffball on the steps. Said flouffball promptly went to greet Oreo. “Clearly Nes wanted to see Oreo. And I wanted to see you too! Sit with me?”

Aurora grinned when she saw Idris brighten upon seeing her. With how worried he was about Paul, it was even better when she saw him happy. And she was happy to see him too. She gladly joined him on the step. "You are Nessy are important to us too. And Paul of course." She thought that when she got back to the common room she would check on him. That is if she could find him there. Hopefully he was okay.
She gave Nessy some love. "Clever Nessy. I think it will be a nice distraction." Give Idris something to do at the moment while Paul had his alone time. And of course Oreo was happy at the idea of being able to play with Nessy, who he happily greeted.

It made sense that Id brighten up whenever he saw Rory - and Oreo! They were both a joy in his life. Wasn’t she just the sweetest with those words? He reached out to hug her; he could always do with hugs! “Then we’ll be important to each other forever! Or so I hope. What an absolute tragedy if we ever drift apart!” Nope, Id would not even dwell on such a horrendous thought!
Nessy was as good at making and maintaining friendships as he was! The fact made the boy quite proud! The pink furbaby stretched out a paw to pat Oreo on the head. “Oh yes!” Idris fished into his pocket. “I brought some treats for Oreo. Tuna flavoured. They’re some of Nes’ favourites!” A piece of foil paper in which a hefty amount of treats was wrapped was held out. “I hope Oreo likes them.”

Oh, a hug! Aurora would never say no to one of those, and she happily returned the gesture. She was happy to see him, and happy to see that he was doing better now. ”We won’t. I won’t allow it.” It would be like how she was with Ary and Bry. ”We will be having our movie dates at the retirement home,” she joked. Seriously though, she would not lose touch with Idris or Paul.
She grinned as she watched the kitties begin to play, batting at each other. It was so good that they had become friends. It was important for them to socialize and get exercise. ”That’s very kind! I’m sure that he will love them.” Even though Aurora was a vegetarian, her cat certainly wasn’t. And she was sure that he would love something that was tuna flavoured.

Hugs were always one of the best remedies for anything, especially with heavy feelings. And heavy feelings are exactly what he had been dealing with. But it was also true that he was his usual upbeat self. It was all about balancing the emotions out through proper processing and distractions. Plus he HATED being anything but happy-go-lucky. “I won’t either, so it’s a done deal that we’ll be friends forever!” Then he was laughing. “For sure! And we’ll have wheelchair races!’’
Id couldn’t imagine cats being vegetarians, not when they were designed to be meat eaters. However, he definitely respected Aurora as a vegetarian and all others who were. “He will! They are some of Nessy’s favourites.” As the furbabies continued to play - which boosted his serotonin levels, by the way - he carried on the chatter with his friend. “I think these two would be Forever Friends too. We’d have organise loads of dates for them, even when they’re old like us.”
