Default Surviving Suburbia

Everybody loves Hogwarts.
Students couldn’t be prouder of the beloved castle they get to call home for most part of the year, and those unfortunate enough not to receive an invitation, dream of racing the moving staircases and finding secret passageways behind talking portraits.
Enchanting as it may be, Hogwarts remains, above all: a school. Which means that Hogwarts students don’t necessarily spend all their time at the castle joking with nearly-headless ghosts, sneaking into forbidden forests, or enjoying a cup of hot chocolate by the fireplace. Like any other student at any other school, magical or otherwise, they have their fair share of responsibilities: homework to get done, tests to study for, grades to improve. Overall, Hogwarts students tend to be hard-working, smart individuals who surpass challenges set by each and every lesson, moving on to higher levels.
There are, however, those classes that are just IMPOSSIBLE for some to pass. And for some Hogwarts students the main culprit tends to be:
Muggle. Studies.

These students can perform a perfect patronus, handle a crying mandrake, predict your untimely demise in a teacup, but they simply can NOT figure out the workings of a “TV remote” no matter how many times they press all the bloody buttons. It looks just like a tel-uh-phony, what is even the point of this thing!? GAHHH.
For these students, a special summer lesson has been put together by Professor Willoughby, Hogwarts’ one and only Muggle Studies master. These students failed all exams and either didn’t turn in their homework, or turned in something that made no more sense than a two-headed dog with chicken legs and fire breath. If these students don’t want to end up repeating the class next term (and I’m more than certain they don’t), they MUST pass the summer lesson, which, in consequence, will take up a good half of their summer break.

So, what is Professor Willoughby’s challenge?
Surviving one month in suburbia.

The worst Muggle Studies students in every House and every year must pack their belongings (without the help of magic) and move to a standard, uniformed suburban home in the middle of a friendly muggle neighbourhood in the outskirts of London. Doesn’t sound too bad, does it? Well, there’s a catch: the students must give up their wands to Professor Willoughby at the end of term, and they may only retrieve them after successfully completing all challenges set up by the professor. So, absolutely no magic can be performed during the entire month the students spend in this home, performing their daily tasks without the aid of their wands. They must learn to live life… the muggle way.

It’s not all so bad, though. The house is large and comfortable, there’s a pool in the backyard, they get a mini van to drive around, and there’s other youths in the neighbourhood. Just next door is a house occupied entirely by muggle university students, who our muggle-challenged witches and wizards must interact with without raising any suspicion to complete some of their tasks. If they’re nice enough, they could maybe even get the muggles to perform some of these tasks for them. …Long as they’re not caught by the Professor’s pet assistant. There will be one student, the best student, in fact, who is already familiar with all things muggle and will be in charge of making sure that all tasks are completed by his classmates. Should anyone be caught cheating, this student will be in charge of reporting them to Professor Willoughby, and they may permanently lose their wand in consequence.

To help the students stay on track and remember all the tasks they must complete, a chalkboard has been set up in the living room area of the home. Here, the professor’s assistant has listed all the tasks the students must complete, in the order they must be performed. Also, all students have been equipped with the muggle version of a wand - a cellphone. Each cellphone is activated with its own phone number and the students are free to use them as they please, the more they play around with the gadget and experience first-hand muggle technology, the better! But please do try to take it easy on the selfies.

And so, girls and boys… welcome to suburbia! Have fun and try not to get electrocuted by that tricky muggle invention - electricity!

Hello everyone!
So, since the general RP section of the site is pretty dead, The Amazing Ru (pinecone) and I have decided to start something new that will hopefully get more members involved in RPs outside of the school!
If you’re interested in joining, please just post a bio for your character(s) and we’ll add them to the list below!
You may RP students, muggles, or both. Ru and I will be taking care of the professor and his assistant (we may or may not have some surprises in store for you… ). You may also bring in any necessary extras if a certain scene asks for it, the more realistic we make this, the better! If you have any ideas of extra characters you’d like to add in besides the students and their muggle neighbors, tell us! Want to be a gardener that’s onto them? A thief that breaks into the house at night? A troublesome child that rings the bell and runs away!? ALL CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME. BE CREATIVE!

And for your reference, here is a shot of the board listing all the kids’ challenges. Below is a link to see a larger version.

Please remember to follow all SS rules while RPing, and, most of all, don’t forget to have FUN!!!

Adam was snapped out of his rather light and cold sleep when his cuddly snowball suddenly melted right on top of him, covering the boy not only in a blanket but in a sleepy Ravenclaw girl as well. In an instant, he went from having no blankets to being buried into the bed by two. He smiled with amusement at this, his mind still more asleep than awake as he instinctually wrapped his arms around the sleepy girl using him as pillow.

And though he was infinitely more comfortable now, not at all bothered by the massive cuddle Allegra had rewarded him with, Adam struggled to fall back asleep. The room was filled with light, but not the bright, hazy morning light he would’ve expected. It was even brighter, but somehow felt far away. Far into the hours of an early afternoon. Adam raised one of the arms around Allegra just enough to check his watch and his eyes widened slightly. How was it already 2:30 in the afternoon?! Well, he supposed it made sense, they hadn’t necessarily gone to sleep at a sensible time last night. And the exhaustion from all of the past week, with its problems and its final exams, seemed to have piled up on the two exhausted students.

One of the boy’s hands moved to the back of the girl’s head, absentmindedly stroking her hair the way one would a sleeping child (not that he saw her as a child that’d be creepy and weird lol). With the dawn of a new day came a few new concerns. First being: separation. Adam’s eyebrows furrowed thoughtfully, his gaze on the distorted shadow of the bedroom window cast on the ceiling. Should he go now? Just… casually slip away? Or wait until Allegra woke up and give a proper… goodbye? See you later? Adam’s eyebrows furrowed further, disapprovingly. No, that wouldn’t feel right. Maybe they should at least have breakfast (or lunch) together first? Was there ever really an appropriate time for a couple to formally begin their mutually-agreed separation?!

Thoughts clouded the boy’s mind as Allegra slept peacefully in his arms, his expression a perfect portrait of uncertainty. He didn’t know how to go about this. What to say, what to do. But he knew one thing, a rather unhelpful thing: he didn’t want to separate from Allegra Reynolds. So he did nothing, choosing instead to enjoy her sleepy company, for however long he could.

Perhaps another twenty minutes later, Allegra began to stir. It seemed that slowly but surely her sleeping mind grew more and more tempted to wake with the growing realization that this very comfortable pillow she was enjoying was really her boyfriend being very patient. When had she started using him as a mattress? She couldn't quite remember rolling over onto him but by the time she started really thinking about this, she realized she was more awake than asleep and her gray eyes fluttered open to find Adam Kipling, indeed, at her side. Well, not exactly at her side, rather, directly underneath her. She beamed at the sight of him, a slight sheepishness behind her eyes as she sat up just a bit to meet his gaze.

"Good morning, Sunshine." Allegra moved off of him, stretching out luxuriously in the process before slipping into her usual spot at his side and burrowing into the comfort of his familiar arms. The reality of the day seemed not to dawn on her just yet, her silver eyes still glazed over from sleep and sparkling at the view of Adam so near.

It was almost absurd how three words, just a simple morning greeting, could light up the boy’s world. Allegra may as well have proposed they hop out of bed, skip graduation, and begin their summer plans that very same day. But it had been too long since he last received a morning greeting that he didn’t realize he had missed so much. Good morning, Sunshine.

“Good morning, Moon,” Adam replied, his voice still a little sleepy despite having been awake for about a half hour now. He turned to the little Ravenclaw that settled beside him, unable to wipe the almost childlike smile off his face. Not that he wanted to, anyway. “Sleep well?” he asked, his adoring gaze slowly beginning to fill with playfulness, as it often did when a tease was coming, “How’d that new mattress of yours work out?” he asked, obviously referring to himself.

Allegra beamed at the familiar nickname leaving Adam's lips, his voice warm and rough in the morning, somehow managing to elicit even more admiration from the girl at his side if that was possible. One of her hands coming up to his chest, she was just preparing to ask how he slept when he beat her to the punch just to tease her about what she should have known was coming. She smiled with a nonchalant, poised sort of look to her features as Adam asked about her 'new mattress', suddenly not so interested in eye contact.

"I don't know what you're talking about." When in doubt, deny. Especially when it involved one's boyfriend bringing up a rather embarrassing thing that happened whilst sleeping. So what if she cuddled him like a personal pillow for the better part of a half an hour? She wasn't embarrassed, her cheeks were always this shade of light red.

Adam raised an eyebrow, as if to say oh really? when Allegra casually denied knowing what he was referring to. But as her gaze dropped and her cheeks turned the loveliest shade of pink, the boy’s teasing expression transformed into one of pure adoration. How was she already so cute?! She literally just woke up five minutes ago and was already on full-on cute mode!

Awwwww, Moon…” He pulled her closer, placing a kiss on her adorably pink cheek. “I think you do, though…” he teased, unable to help himself. But before Allegra could further deny her usage of him as a pillow, the boy helped her out of making any new excuses by meeting her lips in a sweet, and loving kiss.

Allegra was just preparing to defend herself once more from Adam's teases and remind him that she had absolutely no control over what she did in her sleep, but he soon took any thoughts of argument away from her with a simple kiss. Perhaps at another time over a different, more pressing matter she would have pulled away and continued her argument, but it wasn't even a consideration this time. Not when Adam had said her favorite nickname like that, or pulled her closer the way he did, or after the week they'd just had. Some things could wait.

Allegra returned the kiss lovingly, soon finding that she had forgotten what it was they were talking about just moments ago. Now there seemed to be more pressing matters, like getting as close as possible to her favorite person. This could have gone on forever, knowing Adegra, but was brought to a sudden stop as a note flew through the window and landed quite unceremoniously on Allegra's shoulder.

Breaking apart from Adam, her brows furrowed as the parchment fell from her forehead to the space between them. Corie. It was on her signature stationary, unmistakable. Allegra shared a confused, amused glance with Adam, pecking his lips lovingly before she settled comfortably against his chest to open the note for both of them to see. It was only as she unrolled it that she realized this wasn't the best idea.

"Allegra -
Don't forget the last Hogsmeade trip is today! I didn't see you at breakfast... I asked the elves to send lunch to the cottage because I'm worried about you eating properly. Please don't waste your last weekend here waiting for Adam to stop being a complete and total --"

At this point in the letter, Corie offered up a number of descriptive, expletive words and it was around this line that Allegra promptly crumpled up the note and threw it across the room. She obviously didn't anticipate the vibrant vocabulary Corie had chosen to include. Clearly she wasn't too pleased with Adam's behavior towards Allegra in the last week. What decent friend would be?

"Corie just wants to go to Hogsmeade later," she offered as explanation. Hoping that Adam hadn't been reading as quickly, or perhaps didn't read it at all, Allegra offered up a smile and slipped her arms around him comfortably. "Are you hungry?"

Unfortunately for Allegra - well and for Adam too, he probably could’ve done without reading that note - he saw EVERYTHING. So the wide-eyed, open-mouthed shocked expression that greeted Allegra when she turned back to him was probably to be expected. “….What?” he responded after seconds of looking like a character on the moving pictures box who someone had just paused. He blinked, flabbergasted. “‘Just wants to go to Hogsmeade’?! You mean to plot my murder over a few butterbeers?”

Allegra gave an apologetic cringe as Adam responded to the words he had clearly read in spite of her quick attempts to throw the note as far away as possible. She almost laughed at his response, but quickly decided better of it as she caught a glimpse of his expression. "Noooo..." she denied, cuddling closer to him as she offered up a weak smile. "I'm sorry, she's just..." Of course, Corie hadn't witnessed the last twenty-four hours and all of the progress that came with it. She hadn't even fully seen the events of the week as a whole, she'd simply heard (and sometimes seen) her best friend in shouting matches with her boyfriend. And Allegra's constant misery hadn't exactly helped the picture either.

"She's..." Allegra wasn't quite sure how to explain it. "I mean, how would you react if you saw someone yell--" She quickly rethought her word choice. "Interacting with me like that..." As Adam had been, all week. It was only natural that the people who cared for her might grow defensive. Surely, Adam's friends were feeling defensive of him, as well. Once again, Allegra found herself disappointed in the words that slipped out of her mouth whenever she tried to communicate. She didn't intend for her statement to sound pointed, merely trying to get him to understand why Corie might be so upset, but of course, it always came out wrong. "She's just concerned."

Adam’s shocked expression cracked into a smile as a snuggly Allegra cuddled closer, happily welcoming this new proximity. He listened quietly as she tried to explain her friend’s concern, his eyebrows raising slightly every time the girl stopped abruptly, reconsidering her words. Of course, he understood. It was hard not to understand where Corie was coming from when he had already accepted the fact that his behaviour hadn’t been too far off her colourful vocabulary.

“I know, Moon,” he assured her softly, the words followed by a gentle sigh. He’d completely forgotten all about their friends, about how their relationship affected other people besides themselves. Even the elves were concerned! And though things had started off a bit rocky with Corie (the kitchen interrogation remained something the boy looked back on with some annoyance), this time there was no misunderstanding. He’d really screwed up.

Adam was quiet for a moment, thinking this over, before deciding, “I think they leave at three. To Hogsmeade, I mean.” He checked his watch. “Which gives you… half an hour to catch up.” He lifted his gaze from his wrist and met her with slightly raised eyebrows, as if they were back in the days of Willoughby’s competition and he was providing her crucial information on an upcoming challenge.

Allegra listened with mild interest behind her gaze as Adam explained to her that she had half an hour to catch up with the others. If she was going to do that, she probably needed to shower, dress quickly, eat something of what Corie sent over, run a brush through her hair and run as speedily as possible to the Entrance Hall. And if she wanted to have even a chance of getting there on time, she needed to start that process right this second. She nodded at Adam's words quietly, for a moment looking as though she would really uproot herself then and there. And then, just as seriously, she locked eyes with him once more and closed the distance between them in a loving kiss. She would catch up. Eventually.

Adam’s lips curved into an amused smile beneath Allegra’s. He returned the girl’s kiss eagerly but gently, allowing it to last for as long as he could. And by the time he pulled away, only a few moments later, it was like the atmosphere of the entire room had changed. To something warmer, cozier. He smiled at the sight of the girl before him, leaning in again to gently peck her lips. How could just a kiss, no matter how brief, always leave him feeling like he was waking up in a different place, a better place?

And then, after a moment of merely staring at Allegra with that dreamy quality that usually accompanied the sight of her, Adam spoke suddenly, “Alright. Let’s go.” He pecked her lips one more time, just because he could, and released the girl. Once on his feet, he moved the fluffy slippers Serina had left behind to Allegra’s side of the bed and offered her a hand.

But Allegra didn't want to leave. As Adam suddenly decided it was time to go and released her in order to get up, her brows furrowed as though he had suggested they move to Mars rather than simply get out of bed. This rather stubborn expression only lightened as he pecked her lips distractingly, only to return once more as her eyes fluttered open dreamily to find him on his feet, offering her a hand.

"Where are we going?" She sat up and crossed her legs comfortably beneath herself, her posture impeccable as she tilted her head to the side and examined Adam's expression as though hunting for signs of insanity. She looked at him, and then at his outstretched hand, and back to him, her intelligent gray eyes accompanied by the slightest frown and look of mild judgement. Of course she knew he probably only meant to go downstairs, but it didn't stop the girl from looking like some kind of displeased queen atop a castle of sheets and pillows. All she needed was the tiara.

Adam mirrored Allegra’s body language without realizing, his own head tilting to one side, his own eyes examining her curiously. Only difference was, unlike Allegra’s adorably curious expression, his just looked confused. “What do you mean ‘where are we going’?” he asked, as if the girl had uttered the question in German and he needed a translation. “You,” His outstretched hand moved to point at her instead, “need to change, Reynolds. And I’ll go check on the food,” he explained, his hand stretching in an offer again.

"Hm." Allegra responded to Adam's words, thinking about them. It was amusing only because his suggestion was completely rational. Of course she needed to change! Of course they needed to eat! And at some point, she would need to get out of this bed and start that process. But she treated his words as though they were out of nowhere, as though he had gotten up in the middle of the night to grab a glass of water and expected her to come with him on the journey. It seemed illogical to Allegra.

"And you've just decided this for the both of us, have you?" The smallest spark of mischief appeared behind her gray eyes. She took his hand, but instead of allowing him to pull her from her sitting position, she merely placed a warm kiss on the back of it, as if this was his intention all along, and let it go. And then, she slipped back into the sheets, stretching luxuriously in the very feline way which had become her nature.

“What? Well—no—I don’t know—” Adam stopped abruptly as the girl finally accepted his hand. He was just about to gently help her up when, instead, he found himself receiving a kiss. And just a second later, Allegra was back in bed.

Adam’s jaw dropped, watching as the girl merely stretched, clearly in no rush to get anywhere any time soon. “What… what are you doing?”

Perhaps, if Allegra were to really dissect her behavior from a rational stand point, she might have noticed that she was intentionally stalling their progress that day in the attempt to stall the inevitable separation she knew was waiting around the corner. Perhaps, if she really thought about it, she would have realized how immature and counterproductive that was - but she didn't. She wasn't thinking about why she didn't want to get up, she wasn't connecting it to any larger scheme to stay with Adam longer. She hadn't even registered any of that yet. All she cared about, in this moment, was remaining comfortable and cozy and, quite honestly, flirting with Adam for the fun of flirting with Adam.

"Nothing," Allegra defended softly as Adam asked what she was doing, rolling over gracefully and exposing just the slightest amount of pale skin peeking out from beneath her shirt. Or rather, Adam's shirt. Her gray eyes caught his own and she smiled before glancing out the window at the sunny day already well on its way towards late afternoon. The light flooded in through the open window and landed on her pillow, playing in her dark hair as she considered vaguely if she even wanted to be in Hogsmeade that day. She shrugged off the thought and soon returned her interested eyes to Adam, a sort of challenge behind them. "Why are you rushing?" It was both a playful and serious question as she took his hand once more with a lazy smile. Since when had they switched places? Wasn't it usually Adam who was known as the sloth?

Resembling an awkward schoolboy with an impossible crush, Adam watched the girl on the bed with complete awe. It was as if he wondered how he’d ended up here in the first place, how he’d made it this far into a game he wasn’t expecting to play beyond level one. It was unfair. It was completely unfair. Here he was, trying to be responsible for a change, and Allegra Reynolds decides to surprise him with a new card, an unfair new tactic that worked just as effectively as when she pouted her lips and brightened her eyes.

“I’m not rushing,” he denied almost childishly, as if Allegra’s question was offensive. “I just…” he trailed off, not really all that sure what he was doing. His gaze fell to Allegra’s hand as it met his, and any bit of determination left in him was immediately lost. “I just—I just… didn’t want you to be late,” he explained distractedly. His gaze wandered from her silver eyes to see the light falling on her hair, creating a sort of halo effect and playing along with Allegra’s behaviour to make the girl seem even more ethereal. And then his gaze dropped, and he wondered: when did he end up back in the bed?!

Adam gave a startled little jump at the realization that he was laying beside Allegra, as relaxed as if he’d been there all along, as if he had never been standing at all. He sat up and turned to Allegra, narrowing his eyes. “Moon…” He considered checking the time but it was pointless. “Do you want to go to Hogsmeade?”

Allegra beamed as she found Adam at her side once more, somehow having succeeded in her attempts to return him to her company, to a non-threatening state of lounging that didn't take the next steps into the rest of the day. But even as he moved to her side and she cuddled up closer to him naturally, she knew the bubble couldn't last. From the window she could see students in the distance crossing the grounds - the first few pairs were starting towards Hogsmeade. His last question seemed to surprise her, despite its clear logic, and though she was a bit caught off guard, her answer was immediate.

"Yes." Allegra smiled faintly. Well, did she want to go to Hogsmeade with Corie and dodge Gabe and hang around with the rest of the graduating class, burning off their last few days? Not particularly... If she had her way, she'd spend the rest of the day with Adam, of course. But that wasn't an option. And if that wasn't an option, she certainly didn't want to spend the rest of the weekend locked in the castle with no exams to study for and nothing else to think about but Adam. So, yes, in the grande scheme of things, she did want to go. She had to go, really.

"Will you be going?" It was clear by her tone that she wasn't asking to go with him, rather just wondering if he had plans of it on his own. Still, there was the smallest shred of hope to see him, even in passing. She couldn't help silently judging how pathetic she found herself to be just for asking, but once again tried her best to be honest rather than filter herself.

Adam smiled with Allegra’s response, raising their entwined hands to gently place a kiss to the back of hers. Of course, he wasn’t happy or glad to inevitably separate from her, but unlike his very persuasive girlfriend, who preferred to delay the moment with bedsheets and warmth, he’d already prepared for this. Sort of. Well, tried. And failed, but tried anyway, so it didn’t feel as awful as assuming they’d just keep pushing this off and then realizing they couldn’t.

When Allegra asked if he was going, the boy shook his head. “I promised Thomas his first tattoo today as a ‘graduation present’,” he raised their hands again as he made quotes in the air. “He asks me the same thing every end of term but always backs out, so I don’t know how serious he’s about it this time,” he added with an amused grin. Thomas’s tattoo was almost five years in the making now, and honestly Adam doubted it would ever meet the blond boy’s skin.

Allegra suddenly sat up and froze as Adam explained that he wasn't going to be attending Hogsmeade because he promised Thomas his first tattoo. Her eyes widened at the realization that Adam Kipling, as she had feared, truly was the coolest, most fascinating creature she'd ever met in addition to his knack for being ceaselessly attractive to her. She was going to Hogsmeade, and he was going to tattoo his best friend?

There was a very small part of Allegra's mind which wasn't filled with supreme intelligence and facts on numerous invaluable subjects, and it was the part of her mind specifically reserved for swooning over things like blue eyes and tattoos and attractive boys with warm smiles, the part which proved that, in spite of her overall maturity, Allegra Reynolds was still very much a young woman with a huge, dorky crush on her boyfriend.

"You're going to tattoo him?" Allegra repeated in awe, a sort of longing behind her gaze. She wanted to come! She wanted to be there, she wanted to watch the process and see him draw whatever it was he'd be drawing. But she didn't say any of this, trying to process it all while keeping some semblance of her poise. "What is he getting?"

Adam nodded, absentmindedly playing with Allegra’s cold little fingers. While the girl wrapped herself in girlish thoughts, he was ironically having deeper thoughts, trying to solve greater mysteries. Like why Allegra’s fingers remained cold even when the sunlight was landing directly on her hand. They only seemed to warm when something else, like his hand, was touching them.

As Allegra asked what Thomas would be getting, Adam looked up, his eyebrows furrowing thoughtfully. “I’m not sure. Two years ago it was a dragon, last year a sunset with a mountain, six months ago a doodle of his dog, last week a quote from his favourite song,” he listed, smiling with amusement, then he raised his eyebrows dramatically. “But he’s been consistent about one thing: no flowers.” An irony, given the many flowery tattoos on the artist.

Allegra smiled faintly as Adam explained Thomas's many ideas for the permanent ink on his skin, her eyebrows raising at the last requirement. No flowers. "Well, who would want that?" she teased, in the next moment making up for her mocking by placing light kisses long his knuckles where depictions of flowers were permanently etched into his skin, pecking his lips shortly after. She was rather fond of Adam's tattoos, after all, and she went on to tell him this and a handful of other things as the conversation began to drift to various topics between them.

Time passed. For the better part of half an hour, Adegra remained lounging, talking about everything and nothing, occasionally sharing affection here and there as further punctuation of their thoughts. They brought the food upstairs and ate breakfast/lunch together while continuing their discussions and debating various topics playfully. But, as always, time seemed to move faster around Adam, and all too soon three o'clock officially rolled around, finally forcing Allegra to start getting up from their little dreamland to get ready to go.

She showered and dressed, running a brush through her hair before cleaning up some of the mess from her time spent in the cottage. Allegra gathered the last of her belongings from the bathroom and the bedrooms, trying her best not to think about the very real possibility that this could be the last time they were in the cottage. She didn't want to be here without Adam, and after last night it felt like time to get going. Dwelling on sentimental thoughts now wasn't helpful, and she pushed off this growing nostalgia for a later time as she descended the stairs with her belongings in hand. A simple swish of her wand made the overnight bag disappear from the cottage, reappearing in her dorm room at the end of her bed, waiting for her to return later that evening.

Allegra put her wand away and ran a hand through her hair as she descended the last couple of steps, offering up a weak smile. From here she'd meet the others in Hogsmeade, and Adam would head back to the castle. Time to go. "Are you ready?"

Adam was already at the foot of the stairs, watching Allegra descend with a smile. At her question, he nodded. “Ready.” And though it was a silent agreement between the two of them that separating was thrilling for neither of them, it at least felt… alright. Like it was a good thing, like they were finally being responsible. And anyway, after the rollercoaster of the past week and last night, the couple needed some breathing room, an opportunity to reconnect with the friends they’d been too caught up to fully appreciate. The feeling of finality in the air made Adam suddenly hyperaware of all the people he’d be saying goodbye to in only a few days. He’d been so caught up in his issues with Allegra that it hadn’t hit him how drastically life was about to change.

Taking Allegra’s hand into his own, Adam led the way across the familiar little cottage for what may be the last time, and out onto the front yard. He wasn’t sure why he decided to go this way, usually the couple left the cottage from the back, where they could move into the grounds unseen. Instead of a view to the lake and Forbidden Forest, the couple were greeted with the sight of Hogwarts castle just across the grounds, its stone walls glittering beneath the afternoon sun.

Adam took a few steps forward, the door to the cottage closing behind them, then stopped. This is it.
But instead of releasing Allegra’s hand and going his way, the boy pulled her closer. He only let go of her hand so he could wrap his arms around her frame in a familiar embrace, keeping the girl snuggly and close. “I love you.” He said it softly but not romantically, like he was sharing a friendly reminder of something important, something she couldn’t forget. Flashing the girl a warm smile, he leaned in and gently met her lips with his own. And though there were definitely traces of nostalgia haunting the couple’s departure, Adam felt strangely at peace. He felt alright. Because it wasn’t goodbye.

He pulled back a few moments later, smiling. “I’ll see you later, Moon.” He followed the promise with a peck to her lips and finally separated from her, moving away toward the castle and flashing her one last smile.

"I love you, too," Allegra responded easily, a gut reaction. Just truth, honest. She returned his gestures, first a warm hug and then a brief kiss, her gray eyes fluttering open moments later with a new sort of appreciation. And she nodded as, finally, he separated from her and decided they would see one another later. Later was the appropriate word, the appropriate term for what was going on, and it felt right as she heard Adam say it. For the first time in a long time, she didn't feel as though there was an elephant on her chest as she watched Adam walk away from her. It felt like a much needed pause, and it allowed her to breathe.

Allegra walked through the grounds on the perfect spring day, her hands in the pockets of her jacket and her light eyes set determinedly in front of her. It was time to see Corie, and Ray, and the rest of the world away from Adam. It was time to talk to her best friend, and enjoy her last few days here, and actually take the time she needed to process... everything. Because it wasn't just this last week that had been overwhelming. It was the entire year. Was there ever a moment of down time? If there was, she didn't remember it. Looking back, it all seemed a high speed blur of highs and lows. And now, finally, was the time to slow down. She was looking forward to it.

~*Surviving Suburbia: Season 3*~

Adam frowned at his hot chocolate but smiled as the girl who’d served it walked by, not wishing to hurt her feelings (though she probably wouldn’t have cared that a random customer didn’t like her hot chocolate anyway). He supposed he had little right to complain. It was summer and he was the only person in the coffee shop not drinking some sort of iced beverage.

He was stirring a spoonful of sugar into the drink when something began vibrating against the wooden surface of the table. In his wild eagerness to grab the phone, Adam ended up accidentally knocking it to the floor instead. Across the shop, a pair of teenage girls watched him and giggled, but he didn’t notice, scrambling to pick up the phone. He unlocked the screen and immediately checked the new message. Disappointed, he saw it was from Geoff.

Bridgette’s cooking tonight, bring Allegra.

Adam didn’t respond, placing the device back on the table and attempting to get through his tasteless hot chocolate.
