Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop

Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop is the feather in Hogsmeade's hat -- literally! Conveniently located next to a school and having consistent business for most of the year, peeking through the windows of this shop will make it very obvious what this building houses. Various quills, parchments, and stationery sets are laid out on display, luring in any student that loves the smell of parchment, misplaced their favourite quill, or is looking to make doing homework fun.

After the bell dings following your entrance, the smell of paper fills your nose. After taking in another breath, though, a new smell registers in your mind. Is that the smell of ... cat litter? The previous owner (grandmother of the current) used to let her cats roam free here, but you will not find them here anymore -- at most you might find a stray cat toy or two that had been left behind or bits of fur.

Oddly enough, Natalie found peace in the quill shop. It smelled like fresh paper and it was quiet and not crowded with people like a lot of the other shops were. She usually didn't mind the lines in Honeydukes, but she didn't even feel like eating sweets. To be honest, she didn't feel like doing anything in Hogsmeade, but she wanted the fresh air. They had just gotten back from the holiday, and she already felt like she was suffocating.

Ugh.

But she could always use new quills and school supplies, so the prefect wandered through the aisles slowly, occasionally plucking an item off the shelf to purchase.

Max was here to replace the self-inking quills he'd apparently lost just before the holidays. He'd probably lose his head if it wasn't attached to his neck but anyways, do you know how much more effort essays were when you had to constantly stop to re-dip for more ink??? A lot. And he was fed up of it. So here he was, on the hunt.

He rounded one of the aisles and spotted the back of someone familiar. Someone he was still a little angry at actually.

Time for payback. He was probably going to get into a bunch of trouble if the shopkeeper noticed him, but oh well, he had a few sickles extra and it was totally going to be worth it...

Trying to be super covert and super sneaky, Max snatched a bit of parchment off of the closest shelf, screwed it up into a perfect parchment paper ball and flung it straight at Natalie's head. Hah.

Oooh, fragrance quills? Natalie stopped when she smelled a mixture of smells and saw a sign that advertised fragranced quills. That was cool. Now she could make all her notes to Andi smell good. Well, her mum, too, but to be honest, she didn't write that often to her mum.

Sniff sniff. Rose, definitely. Sniff sniff. Ooh, pineapple? Yum. Sniiiiiiff. Mm. Strawberry, yes, definitely. And just as she was picking up another one to smell, something whacked her in the back of her head. And she was pretty sure WHO it was because parchment didn't go THROWING itself around. At least not last time she had been in this store.

Turning around slowly, Natalie's eyes landed on Max. Of course. Typical. "Can I help you?" she asked with a little GLARE. She knew he was probably still upset at her for ditching him at her own house on Christmas, but honestly, couldn't he get over it? She apologized and they had a heart to heart!

He probably should've ducked behind one of the counters or something as any other normal person would do. But firstly, his aim was so terrible he honestly hadn't been expecting to actually hit her and secondly, he just wasn't quick enough for that.

"Actually, yeah. You can," he responded, grabbing another sheet of parchment and screwing it up into another ball. "Hold still for me, will you? Your head is good for target practice."

He wasn't hiding, so clearly it was Max's mission to just be a butt head. A mission which he constantly was accomplishing. She liked Max most of the time, really, but sometimes she just wasn't in the mood to deal with his antics. Now was one of those times.

So she rolled her eyes as he crumpled up another ball of paper, sighing as she turned back around to grab more fragranced quills. "Leave me alone, Max." She didn't have the patience to get whacked in the head with parchment balls.

He caught the eye roll and Max rolled his eyes right back. And here he was thinking HE was a moody ratbag. Pretty sure Natalie McKinley was stealing his crown. He could probably count on one hand the number of times he'd actually seen her crack a smile this term.

Instead of doing as he was told and leaving her alone though, Max shoved his hands in his pockets, crumpled up parchment ball included, and moved to stand beside her.

"If you're gonna go for one," he casually nodded at the fragranced section, "I recommend lemon."

Oh, no. Max was DEFINITELY the moody ratbag. Natalie was sweet and adorable and SOMETIMES moody. Now was one of those times. She had had a rough holiday, okay? He knew that. So he should be acting NICE towards her. But whatever, it was Max. He did whatever he wanted.

She had expected another parchment ball to the head, but didn't feel one... and suddenly he was joining her by the smelly quills. Lemon? Natalie looked over at him apprehensively. She didn't believe for one second that he was suddenly being NICE now. No way.

But lemon did sound nice, so she grabbed one and added it to her collection.

"How was the rest of your holiday?" Did he actually go home at all?

Oh. She was actually going with his suggestion? He made a mental note to steal borrow it from her at the next opportunity because who had the money to buy their own? Not him. He'd already spent all of his money in Honeydukes, obviously.

"It was.......... pretty good actually."
That was an understatement but he wasn't about to share all the details. Things had taken a positive turn in the end and nope, he hadn't gone back home. "What about yours? Did you... y'know, sort stuff out?" All her DrAMA??
