VUE cinemas to hold adult screenings of Half-Blood Prince?

VUE cinemas, a movie chain in the UK, have announced that they will be starting adult only screenings for certain films. These special showings will require patrons to be aged 18 or over. On their website they are now asking people to vote on future films, including Half-Blood Prince. You can vote by going here.

I like the idea!!

It's kind of bothersome to have young kids around in this kind of movies. Wish theatres around here did the same.

First to post!!

Zoe 11-10-2008 10:56 PM

I like that idea actually. Even though I'm not 18 yet (Nor do I live in the UK. Sad, I know. lol.), I think it would be pretty nice for those who are older than 8 to go to a film without having to worry about little kids getting scared, throwing loud tantrums, and stuff like that.

Embem 11-10-2008 10:57 PM

They already did late night screenings as adults only, but it sounds good for people who want to go in the day. I think the idea will be a success...

FoxFire 11-10-2008 10:59 PM

Ahhh monkeybutt. >_< *pokes my Americanness*

charma_10 11-10-2008 11:14 PM

We have this in Australia, and I can't tell you how wonderful it is to be able to go to a movie and not have hundreds of children talking and asking questions.

Our over 18 cinemas have recliners and only seat 40 or 50. It's BRILLIANT.

Shopgirl3876 11-10-2008 11:31 PM

That's why I go to the midnight viewings of the movies. I don't like listening to little kids saying they have to go potty.

harryzabest 11-10-2008 11:35 PM

Aw maaaan! I'm not even 18 AND i'm from the US, not the UK. *pokes self*

ebony_wandson 11-11-2008 12:31 AM

Ohhhh what a brilliant idea! I would even pay the extra money that going to Vue requires, if I could see HBP without the squalling small people.

luvtheweasleys 11-11-2008 12:43 AM

I agree, sounds good...I am gonna have to smack someone if they even make a tiny sound while my EDWARD from Twilight is speaking during the midnight showing.

princess of*hp* 11-11-2008 01:03 AM

eek!
i dunno how i feel because i'm only 14 (almost 15).
but then again, i don't live in the uk(wish i did though!) :) :harry3:

Too funny!!! However, having two young daughters who have seen every HP movie about 16 times each, not to mention LOTR, etc., I go to the movies where there are loads of kids OFTEN and I have yet to see a tantrum, kids getting scared and shrieking, etc. Mostly it is tiny babies crying or annoying older people who, um, TALK and WHISPER LOUDLY and DISCUSS THE MOVIE AS IF THEY WERE MOVIE CRITICS..... so yeah, I have been going to movies longer than most people on Snitchseeker have been alive....and I rarely experience kids being the problem....it is usually the grownups ;)

Ms_Nessa24 11-11-2008 01:55 AM

o0o0o0 Adult Screenings!
I Wish I Lived in the UK!
It Would Be Great if They Also Did the Screenings Over Here to get a Variety of Population not Just Older Than 18! *Hint Hint*

GinnyPotter7 11-11-2008 01:57 AM

THats cool but here in the US
i hope they dont do that
cant blaim us for being under 18

Mari of the Ocean 11-11-2008 02:19 AM

love it!

Potter for Minister 11-11-2008 02:38 AM

That's...interesting. I remember the fisrt time I saw OOTP in the theater there was a bunch of people goofing around and talking and what not, so I couldn't hear anything, I went home thinking OOTP was terrible, but the second time I saw it I was with a really fun audience who knew when to be quiet and when to whoop and hollar, it was awesome! Made the movie 10 times more enjoyable.

BR1TN3YY 11-11-2008 03:04 AM

I think it's a great idea, and i'm only 17. It really annoys me when people are squeeling the whole way through.

ML52 11-11-2008 03:24 AM

Adults only movie times

I think it may be a good idea. Sometimes it would be nice for both segments of the age difference to have separate showings. I do not live in the UK so it probably will not make any difference for me.:harry:

gandalfgirl 11-11-2008 03:32 AM

That sounds like a good idea. I'm not 18 yet, but when I am I may appreciate it.

finfin91 11-11-2008 04:28 AM

I was wondering why they'd have an "Adults Only" movie screening. It is because they don't want any kids talking around and just have "serious" watchers, or is it because they'd include scenes that may be a little too graphic for the younger audience? Either way, I think it's a good idea.

RadcliffeWatson 11-11-2008 05:09 AM

Damn, I'm only 14, but it is very annoying having younger children scream and talk during the film. I guess that's a good idea, if only I was 18, 4 more years!!!lol

half_blood_prince 11-11-2008 06:04 AM

thats great, but arent they 18 and over anyways?

Hermionespell 11-11-2008 11:31 AM

Well, that's interesting... Why don't they just stick to the ratings instead?

HarryThePotter 11-11-2008 01:20 PM

Well, I'm not 18 yet, but it's a good idea.

Emma C.D. Watson 11-11-2008 02:14 PM

is there any reason they are showing an adult screening for hbp or does it include other movies too?:hermy: :hermy:

We live in the same city O.o VUE is the cheapest, well at least for me. Student discount, plus vouchers (they give you one every time you go, for your next visit) + Orange Wednesdays = £1.75 per ticket.

I went to a showing of HSM3 recently. These young mums brought their toddlers, who would not shut up the entire time. It was obvious it was the parents who wanted to see the movie. There's no shame in that...just get a babysitter!

They're not getting rid of regular screenings. Just adding ones for adults. Odeon already does this for pensioners (complete with tea & biscuits!), kids (every adult must be accompanied by a child!) and new parents (so they don't have to find someone to look after their baby/babies).

It's the former. As with the book covers, there'd be no difference in content.

Fans? Some are, some aren't.

That doesn't keep kids quiet during showings.

The primary reason seems to be noisy children. They started by showing James Bond. There's a list of potential others films at the link, if you look, with HBP at the bottom.

LunaLovesPudding 11-11-2008 03:48 PM

I don't think I really agree with this in principle because more often that not, it's an adult who's making all the noise and annoying you.
It's not just children under the age of 18 doing it.
However, having said that, there aren't any Vues near me and by the time HBP comes out, I shall be 18 anyway. Huzzah!

Snapette 11-11-2008 05:40 PM

I like this, I won't have to put up with 3 year olds screaming, and I won't have to deal with 12 year olds throwing popcorn at me. :D

Kazters 11-11-2008 06:50 PM

i only have a view here and i am so glad they have started this, there is nothing more annoying when you are tryuing to watch a film and little kids are screeming at the screen and things..

View are implimenting this in all cinemas they started with james bond last week

kid dreamer 11-11-2008 08:52 PM

quite clever!

White Train Station 11-11-2008 09:30 PM

I have to agree that this is a good thing, I remember when I went to the last HP movie was at an I-Max theatre at the 10:30 showing and there was parents in there with kids from 5 - 11. It was annoying seeing kids up that late and hearing all noises kids make when your trying to listen.

Ariana Longbottom 11-12-2008 12:31 AM

I guess that's a good idea, but they should really think about HBP. I like how they have it in the US- rated PG-13, so recommended to be over 13. Which is reasonable for dark moments in HP. But 18? C'mon- WB would certainly be upset as they would loose money.

Bellatricks 11-12-2008 12:50 PM

Super cool idea!

RedheadQueen 11-12-2008 06:54 PM

why does everything cool happen over there?! :-(

Nattie 11-12-2008 07:58 PM

Well, I've just been to the Website and voted. I think it is a good ideato have the extra showings as adult only. I have been to a couple of showings of the HP films that have been interrupted by kids chattering or acting up so I would definitely choose the adult showing.

I have even attended the midnight showings and had them ruined by kids chattering the whole way through and constantly asking their parents to explain what's happening, or they need someone to take them to the toilet, or they kick the back of my seat etc. Don' t get me wrong, I know it is a small few that spoil it for the rest, but I see nothing wrong with providing showings for people who just don't want to be around that.

I do know that adults can be just as annoying, but I think that with this type of showing, it is setting an atmosphere or mood for the people who are there, that they are there to watch the film uninterrupted.

But I promise, when I go watch the films, God help anyone who sits near me and talks, cos I will go up and tell them to shut it like I have in the past and if that doesn’t work, I’ll get them booted out. What’s the point of going to the cinema f you’re not going to watch the film?!

This has nothing to do with the ratings certificate.

Sounds good :)
