Video: David Thewlis talks Remus Lupin & Harry Potter films (UPDATED)
David Thewlis was interviewed recently while promoting his upcoming film (released this Friday), The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, in New York City. He discussed getting the role of Remus Lupin in Prisoner of Azkaban and the phenomenon that is the Harry Potter film franchise.
Quote:
Q: Do you find with directors, like with Alfonso Cuaron, did he say he was a fan of "Naked" when you were working on "Harry Potter?"
A: Yeah. He'd seen other things I'd done. Things where I play gentler characters, like "Restoration" or "Seven Years in Tibet." "Harry Potter" was one of the easiest jobs I ever got. I didn't even have to meet Alfonso. I just got a call saying you've got this part.
Q: Did you have any reluctance with "Harry Potter," like there's a lot of baggage that goes with it?
A: I wasn't thinking about it much when I said yes, because there'd only been two films out at that time and it wasn't a huge machine like it is these days.
Q: Is your daughter too young for Harry Potter?
A: She's seen little bits of it. I switch it off when it gets scary.
UPDATE: David was interviewed by KTLA, where he talks in detail about the Potter films, including Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows:
I think from now on, any actor in the Harry Potter films, and future Harry Potter films, will always be asked about their role in it. At times, they won't have much time to talk about any of their newer films like what happened here with David. I was looking at the time, and he only had about 4:30 minutes for the whole interview, and they only spent about a minute on his new film. I wonder if these actors get slighted if they don't have time to even talk more fully about their newer films, and instead the interviewer wants to know more about the Harry Potter films? I'd like to see The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.
Great interview. I wonder if it annoys all the HP actors and actress' that all most interviewers want to talk about is the HP movies instead of the ones they actually go there to talk about lol. The clip looked good, i'll probably go see it.
Cool interview. That's fair enough about his daughter if she's only 3 or 4. The bit where he transforms would be pretty scary for a young child.
I thought they delayed it because it wasn't ready? Hmm, seems it's all about the money. Greedy, greedy WB.
It's because of the Writer's Strike leaving them with a lack of films next year. I don't see why it's a bad thing that a business wants to make money. That's what they're meant to do.
