Tom Felton cast in Emma of Lulworth Cove? (UPDATED)

Tom Felton has now been confirmed to play the character of older Robbie in the film Emma of Lulworth Cove. The author of the story from which the film will be adapted, Ray Stokes, said earlier today that:

Quote:

“We have had word from Tom Felton’s agent this morning and they have accepted our offer and will await the green light.”

“We feel this movie will be a good opportunity for Tom as he’s getting older and needs to think about other roles apart from [Harry Potter] to keep his career on track,” Stokes continued. “We’re very happy to have him and we are more than more convinced he’ll make a great Robbie.”
Ray also goes into detail about Tom's character, Robbie:

Quote:

According to Stokes, in his book the character Robbie has dark hair. That doesn’t mean, however, that Tom would have to have dark hair in his role as older Robbie, says Stokes.

“We don’t really know about Robbie’s hair,” Stokes says. “It will depend on what the director wants.”

But, Stokes says, there is the possibility that Tom’s platinum locks could remain. “There is no [reason] why it shouldn’t remain blond,” he says. “Blond hair is quite striking.”
As well as talking about how significant the role will be:

Quote:

Stokes says Tom Felton will actually be playing the role of “older Robbie,” rather than “younger Robbie,” contrary to what some have previously speculated. Stokes says that Tom’s is the leading part and will have considerable screen time.

“It is a very demanding part as Robbie appears in virtually every single scene in the film,” Stokes said. “[For example,] we’ll need Tom for 6 weeks filming whereas we’ll need Emma (Sara Paxton) for only three weeks filming.”
For anyone interested in reading the original story, it can be bought here.

We hope the best for Tom on his future acting project.

UPDATE: UHP spoke to Tom's agent shortly after this was posted and she said the following;

Quote:

"I have been speaking to Ray Stokes and he has made an offer. I have not confirmed the deal yet, as I need to check a few things first. I did not authorise Ray Stokes to say he was confirmed."

Great for him!

I think Tom would be all to happy to have dark hair, since that's his natural colour, and the dyeing is no fun at all!

First to post! YAY!:woot:

I'm very glad to see Tom doing more films outside of HP. First, the supernatural/horror flick "The Disappeared". Now "Emma of Lulworth Cove". I can't wait to see both.

This is so cool! I've always wanted to see Tom act in other movies now that he's older. I've seen him in The King and I and in the Borrowers and he was so cute then! Can't wait till this comes out!

Ok, first the person says "...in his role as young Robbie" and then he says "Tom Felton will actually be playing the role of 'older Robbie,' rather than “younger Robbie,” contrary to what some have previously speculated"

This is a bit confusing... I guess he'll be playing an adult in his 20s or something? idk...

Most likely. To be honest half the time this guy doesn't sound like he knows what he's talking about!

This sort of makes me sad:lol: i mean all the HP stars are doing other roles now and it just reminds me how the movies are almost over!

Steelsheen 08-06-2008 02:45 PM

so its a first lead role for Tom. thats good. just wished the genre couldve been something else other than the usual horror/ slasher flicks. he gotta be careful with things like that, as many gets pigeonholed to do those films for a long time.

Eclipsed 08-06-2008 05:11 PM

Woot, sounds awesome!

Hi there!

That's actually my fault! I wrote "young" the first time on accident, and changed it relatively soon afterwards.

Young Robbie is 10 years old, Old Robbie is a young adult. :)
