| | | The Truth About Miss Watson's Dress
As it turns out, the lovely dress worn by Emma Watson at the London 'Goblet of Fire' Premiere last week was previously owned! The UK's Telegraph reports: Quote:
The cream silk chiffon gown, embroidered with gold sequins, which Emma wore at last week's premiere of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, originally belonged to the "screen goddess" Anna May Wong
Quote:
Like Emma, Miss Wong, pictured in a similar dress, stood at 5ft 6in and also started her acting career as a child star, in a silent film, The Red Lantern - produced in 1919 she was 13.
Quote:
This is where the similarities end. Miss Wong, who died in 1961, was known by film critics as a seductress, exotic temptress, a femme fatale, whereas Emma has been described as a "happy-go lucky girl next door".

wow, that is so cool. Yes, it was previously owned, that's why it's called a vintage dress. |

I'm not sure that's super breaking news, since she told reporters at the premiere that it was a dress owned by some diva or other, but didn't say who.
I don't know why y'all are taking offense to the term "happy go-lucky." All that means is that she's viewed as innocent and carefree. I'm fairly certain Emma herself would take that as a compliment.

Also, being in a UK paper, it's known to us all to be a good thing, whereas the phrase might not be so well known everywhere else. I know that I struggle to understand a lot of US phrases.

WHO CARES?! *ducking from people who does* well, people, it has not been worn for 80 years! eight decades! then that means it really is worth something and it was handmade! and besides, even if it was worn by a dead person, she clearly didn't wear it when she was actually dead right? and people, emma did say it was previously worn, so it just adds up to its grandeur...i mean who's another actress do you think would do the same?..that's the grandeur! she has confidence and made it look better for the world to see its beauty one more time.. in short, i like emma so much that it doesn't really bother me. i even love her more!

Well I read in a magazine that Emma loves vintage kind of clothes. So it's no surprise to me if she wears something very classic. That's an interesting story to go with it. It was a pretty dress and Emma looked lovely in it. |

So what if it has been owned previously? I mean, it is a vintage dress we are talking about here. Vintage means it actually *is* from the earlier times, not just that it looks that way.
I find nothing creepy about it.

I agree with just about everyone else. Is it really that important?? lol. I thought the dress looked really nice. It doesn't really matter that it was owned by someone else, she looks good in vintage
