Did I mention, they create obsession? That's why I'm here aren't I? LOL Speaking for myself the books have totally tramautized me...that's why I keep reading them again and again...:shifty: Oh and they promote witchcraft...just last week I tried turning my aunt into a hippo and let me tell you...all I got was a shrew...no wait, she's always been a shrew...<_< EDIT: First to post w00t *Teddy points out it's second actually as Marcella posted first* *Ottery tries to hex his auntie* :wizard: SHAZZAM! *smoke clears* Nope, she's still a shrew. |
Ummm.....A post! These books have lead to many people reading more,I agree on that.I started reading these books and became marvelled about reading.(started in the 3d grade) Now I read them over and over, and since the 6th one is nearly out, dieing to get it.*runs to go steal a copy* I have been stunned also by the amout of reading kids do now adays and mostly they are J.K Rowling's books that got them into this faze.*golfer clap for her* WAY TO GO! |
i think it really helps improve readin skills |

I 100% AGREE WITH THAT!!! |
^agreed. I don't watch much tv anymore. And I've read the books so many times now I've lost count. There are so many books that you can only read once. But Harry Potter can be read over and over again, and not get boring. And Ottery, you're a dork. But you're my dork, so it's ok! *grins* And stop being so evil to your Aunt! I'll sic Teddy on you... I believe that HP does promote growth in children mentally, because the books are so interesting and in-depth. As you get older, you start seeing different and more meanings in so many areas that JK has written in the books. To children, some things may seem like fun and entertaining, but us older "Children" (I refuse to call myself an adult. I will always be a child. Like Peter Pan!) see the significance of whatever it is being there. I love that about JK's work. She's so amazingly talented. I wish she'd share some of that talent with me! |
^ ya ya i don't watch tv anymore either... except when shows i like are on... i really do think the books help children! (well i'm still a kid but shut up) eeeeee!!!! i can't wait for July 16th... some random kid: July 16th? me: not JUST July 16th, THE July 16th! hee hee... |
OMG i am soo looking foreward to friday all this stuff is just making it worse |

I'm from romania and I read the books is romanian and english too. Improves reading skills and english too... |
I totally agree! And they create dependence (SP?) on them also! |
That is great that it helps people's reading abilities. I always think it's so strange when some parents claim that it is teaching children witchcraft and that it is a bad thing like some parents like to think that it is. I don't believe that. I think Harry Potter is one of those series that is especially great cause every age can read it and enjoy it. |

I think the Harry Potter books have let me discover the world of reading. Before I read the books I never used to read many books and watching tv was my most favourite thing I would do in my time. What could I say I was 10. But after reading the books it showed me that there is more to books that just words and that many books have deep meaning to them. You use your intellect and imagination with books something that you dont get when you watch television as the picture is right there in front of you. I think that the Harry Potter books have made me more intellegent in some ways. For one thing I hate taking shortcuts in my grammer and I hate slang, and that makes the people I know think that I am a bit of a posh nosh when I really am not. Another thing is that it has helped me into reading other books since Harry Potter helped me to learn that there is more to books than just words. And I hardly watch tv at all now (except for the Simpsons). |
Mmm yea.. HP turned me into a reader. Used to HATE reading - with PASSION... used to hate the HP books too! Then I saw the first movie .. and I just HAD to read the series. =] |
They certainly helped me improve my English and probably my reading speed. |
Its funny how after I read the books, I enjoyed reading and writing more then I have really ever. |
These books are totally evil. Why? Cause they drive me crazy from waiting for the next book. Also it has ruined my social life, instead of hanging out at the mall saying mindless things about other peoples images I stay at home and read! How am I to become a superficial prat if I'm always busy reading something. They need to develop a Potter Patch for me cause I am addicted. |
The Hp books are loved by people who are younger..and they always read them beacause it gets them high points at school ^^ I know those things Its me chockerz:) |
I think they have, I cant wait to start to read them to my nephew! I just know he will love 'em! |

And because of Harry Potter I have strayed from my historical non fiction books and into the world of fantasy and such.. its so much more fun. Reading is good. |
:hairpull: Of Course they do! I've been trying to tell people that for YEARS! |
I think the books are great for kids. I have a set for my 2y/o daughter when she is old enough. She already loves Harry anyway, as she watches the movies now. She knows the music and can recognize Harry and Draco immediately. She loves 'em, tries to kiss the TV when they are on ( ^_^ they have that effect on a lot of people). Anyway, my point is that I will read the books to my kid and she will read them herself one day. |
wow..this is def. true i mean HP turns everyone on to reading |
wow!! harry potter seems like the next Hooked on Phonix with all it's positivity.. :) |
