Even though I don't like Twilight, and I know there's a lot of people on SS that don't: We ALL have friends that do! So, even if you don't like the Saga, still enter. That way, if you win... you'll have a Christmas/Holiday gift to give to a friend/relative and it won't have cost you a penny!

If I were in the States, I'd enter it just for that. But I'm not. Soooo, I'll just wish everyone who DOES enter the best of luck! (Though, looking at the responses... it looks like there won't be much competition. )

I think the 'war' aspect of this is perpetuated by the media and fans in general who are too closed-minded to realise that the two series' are, in fact, nothing alike. Because they're based on fantasy and the books are targeted for a YA audience they in theory become literary adversaries? It's the most ridiculous thing in the world. Some people like Potter, some like Twilight, and many like both, it's not a big deal.

Personally, no, I'm not a big Twilight fan, at all, but at the same time, I, along with the rest of the news staff, am not foolish enough to think there aren't members and readers on SnitchSeeker who wouldn't be interested, either. You've got a couple of mutual actors (Rob and Jamie), so I don't see how there wouldn't be a few people interested. It's with this state of mind that we went ahead and asked for giveaway copies, and the reps were kind enough to send us some for the readers.

We're not forcing you to sign up, or to hand in your Harry Potter fangirl/boy card just because we're giving a few DVDs away. I mean, wow, way to overreact in a hugely ungrateful way. If anything, that's what ends up upsetting the staff - we put all this effort into giving away cool FREE merchandise to the members and readers, yet so many people sort of spit all over it. If you don't like it, just quietly move on, please.

If people fuel the fire, then yeah, there's an unnecessary 'war'. If you let the two series be, then they're just two different franchises.

I love Robert (I don't think he's all that bad of an actor), I'm just surprised they're giving away Eclipse on a Harry Potter fan website.
I personally did not enjoy the film very much. New Moon has been the best directed so far.

My point, exactly! Harry Potter and Twilight are both fantasy stories, yes, but that's about the only thing they have in common. There are a LOT of fantasy stories directed at young adults out there, and that does not make any of them part of a 'literary war.'

Wow, there are a lot of deleted messages! I must have missed a great battle here. Seriously, guys calm down. It’s just a DVD. It can’t hurt your loyalty to the fandom. If you’re a true fan, you’ll keep your class and not attempt to give HP a bad name like the crazy Twilight fans who gave their fandom a negative image to the rest of the world. By “crazy Twilight fans” I mean only the handful of those that live and breathe the series. I don’t mean everyone so don’t freak out.

Omg, I never thought about it like that! Most of my friends are Twilight fans, and since money is quite tight as I’m a student, this would be a great gift.

Well, first off I have to say that I agree with you completely, especially concerning close-minded fans, but you also have to understand, there is a bit of fun to the whole “Harry Potter vs. Twilight” debate. I’m not going to lie; I love to jokingly debate with my friends and tease them about it. The whole debate is just part of being a fan. I do understand that some people get carried away with this whole, “I hate Twilight” and end up out for blood but once again, it’s just a handful of people. You have to admit, you get a good laugh once in awhile from all the Twilight vs. Harry Potter media coverage. However, I would never say negative things about others just because they like Twilight or use hateful language towards them.

On a side note: It seemed like the member you were replying to was only making a simple joke. I’d have teased you guys about it too but I would never mean anything negative by it or seem ungrateful for the SS contests. So I assume that a lot of people don’t mean their comments to sound as bad as they do but I do agree that they should follow the rules, obviously.
