Rumor: Deathly Hallows in 3D?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2 will be converted to 3D.
Quote:

Conversion expenses have been coming down, so each film will cost just $5 million to convert into 3D.

Warners also will absorb an additional $5 million expense per pic to pay for 3D glasses for exhibitors handling the movies.
Please note that this has NOT been confirmed by Warner Bros., although the publication believes that an official statement will be made soon.

Dumbledore 01-26-2010 08:09 PM

I was just about to post this. Read it over at Collider.com who got it from the link you posted. :)

I say: COOL! I love what 3D does to movies. To me it doesn't matter that it will be the only HP film(s) in 3D because you can always choose to watch it in 2D and the DVD's will be in 2D just like the others. It's just a way for them to pull in extra revenue, as Avatar has made so much money.

PatInTheHat 01-26-2010 08:09 PM

OMG I would LOOOOOVE Deathly Hollows in 3D!!! :woot:
Wait....let me calm down....its not confirmed...yet ;)

EllaKins! 01-26-2010 08:09 PM

wow it would be cool to see it in 3D!

OtterPatronus 01-26-2010 08:14 PM

Oh God! I hope not! It will be stupid to have all the other movies in 2D and having the last two in 3D. Doesn't make sense:(!

bonnieginnyfan1 01-26-2010 08:20 PM

I would love to see DH in 3D!!!!!!!!!
It would be the best!!!!!

Lucky Charm 01-26-2010 08:26 PM

OOOO I love 3D! I would love DH in 3D!!!!

Ginny Molly Weasley 01-26-2010 08:28 PM

I hope it is!

Zodiac524 01-26-2010 08:37 PM

it would be very cool if it was 3D especially part 2

Potter 01-26-2010 08:52 PM

sounds great

Dave9494 01-26-2010 08:52 PM

Does this mean (if it is confirmed) that we can watch it in 3D in regular theaters as well? Or just in Imax theaters?

RIPDobby 01-26-2010 09:00 PM

idk if that would be a good idea... i guess well have to wait and see! :P

jukjuk78 01-26-2010 09:18 PM

Wasn't the 5th HP in 3d? But still it would be cool!

Becksibee 01-26-2010 09:24 PM

That sounds Awesome. Why see 2D when we have 3D? I hope they do it and not only in IMAX.

iwantorlando05 01-26-2010 09:28 PM

That would be awesome!!!! I can't wait and I hope it's true!!! :D

tomj321 01-26-2010 09:29 PM

i hope it's just parts of the film like they did in 5 and 6. HP movies aren't supposed to be in 3d.
I would go see it in Imax but in a regular cinema, the first time i see it, i want it to be good old 2d please.

R-Luchy~W*7*PG~ 01-26-2010 09:30 PM

Well..it will great if they use it just for the second part..not the first..
Not really hoping 3D though...

allucha 01-26-2010 09:31 PM

The Battle of Hogwarts: in 3D. That could be so cool. And dizzyfying.

I hope it's true! We Potterheads gotta knock Avatar off it's podium. XD

purebloodprincess87 01-26-2010 09:34 PM

NO...GOD I HOPE NOT. I hate that people are making films 3D...WHAT IS THIS THE 80's.

Emileyn 01-26-2010 09:49 PM

I think the battles in the second part would be awesome in 3D! I can't wait for DH! (:

3-D is completely different now compared to what it was in past.

veggie_potter 01-26-2010 09:58 PM

That would be fricken awesome!

I agree. If they come out with 2 DVD sets, one with all the movies in 3D and one with all in 2D, that would be great.

SeverusSnape_7 01-26-2010 10:05 PM

Yes! This is so exciting! Better than HBP, where you the 3D part lasted only for 15 minutes. But if the DVD and Blu-ray are also in 3D, I hope they don't include the red-and-blue glasses; they make everything look tinted.

bojiva 01-26-2010 10:28 PM

This is great news!!!!
I just can't wait to watch the film!!!!
It will be in 3D!!!!

hermionesclone 01-26-2010 10:55 PM

OMG! That would be so cool! I've always wanted to see the HP films in 3D. I hope it's true!

crazybella 01-26-2010 11:31 PM

Ohhhh!! Deathly Hallows in 3D would be even more awesome!

Gah! Noember is so far away!

Lord Divadicus 01-26-2010 11:51 PM

I think you guys are confusing Explody 3-D with Avatar 3-D. HP DH wouldn't be the "in-your-face" 3-D like some movies are. Avatar pulled it off well because the 3-D was there to pull people into a new world, but not go overboard. HP DH could do the same, I mean, we are basically in a new world with Deathly Hallows. The world isn't right, and we don't have the emphasis on education, but more applying 6 years worth of knowledge to overcome the odds. So, all in all, the same techniques that were applied to Avatar 3-D would apply here as well. So don't get all trippy about explosions in your face type stuff.

ronhermioneroc12 01-27-2010 12:13 AM

Agree that 3-D is completely different these days. Anyway since I plan on seeing DHs like 10 times each in theaters, I suppose one of those times could be in 3-D ;-) To see all that action come to life before your eyes is just wow amazing to picture :-)

Ginny_Weasley_Potter 01-27-2010 12:27 AM

this was also posted on MuggleNet..let's hope it's true!

PotterGirl714 01-27-2010 01:08 AM

That would be awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

princess of*hp* 01-27-2010 01:19 AM

WHAT?!?!?!? This would be amazing, like seeing HP but not paying extra for IMAX!!! :D
When HBP came out, I saw it with friends the opening day. A few weeks later, I went to see it in IMAX with my parents but we came too late and missed the 3D. :(

mildred1 01-27-2010 01:20 AM

kool:)

Looneybird 01-27-2010 01:31 AM

Um okay I feel a bit dumb and confused here but weren't the other films in 3D too? Like the last 15 minutes? Is this not the same? Hmmm...

Well, it'd be cool to see it in 3D nevertheless...never saw it in IMAX before.

Louisianna 01-27-2010 02:01 AM

It seems like every movie is 3D these days. I hope it's good!

reina9 01-27-2010 02:40 AM

Oh PLEASE PLEASE GOD...make it a 3D

$5M? that's what? 0.001% of the total sales they'll get? S800M to S900M against $5m...that's so very cheap with the total sales they get...

i signed a petition for the final HP on 3D :)

Wow... That would be flipping AMAZING if DH was in 3D! I really hope this is true!!

Taiya89 01-27-2010 03:20 AM

*SCREAMS REALLY LOUDLY*

The ENTIRE movie would be in 3D if this ends up being true, not just some parts. Some theatres will play it in regular 2D, and some will have 3D. This is completely different from IMAX (not entirely sure how this affects IMAX showings, but if/when WB releases info on it, we'll know).

Double_Trouble 01-27-2010 03:22 AM

That would be neat.
They don't show 3D in my small town thou.. :(

Ginny GL 01-27-2010 03:47 AM

I sure hope so! Many a scene would be so much better in 3d.

harita 01-27-2010 04:16 AM

cool...

DracoMalfoygirl12 01-27-2010 04:29 AM

That would be cool. Though maybe not do it all in 3D if what the Hollywood Reporter mentioned in its story is confirmed true by Warner Brothers.

RavenclawFan 01-27-2010 05:36 AM

im sooooo seeing it in 3D!!! yay!!!

phoenix_tears 01-27-2010 06:10 AM

Woah! That's so cool!

SilverShiner 01-27-2010 07:06 AM

Wow cool!

JohnRossRotterdam 01-27-2010 09:19 AM

I'm not really against this actually, because it's a new dimension in filming today and I like that. If you see the succes of Avatar, this was to be expected because other films are gonna do this.
I think if the battles are in 3D, that experience would be fantastic. To feel the atmosphere, the tensions and everything.

but the fact that this is just a rumor for now, we'll have to wait and see, but personally I support the idea

GryffindorLioness 01-27-2010 09:22 AM

Although it would be cool to see the film in 3D in the cinema, I'm not too excited about this if this means we'll have to put 3D glasses on every time we have to watch the film on DVD. If they decide to do it in 3D, then I hope they at least put a 2D copy on the DVD as well...

BonnieGinnyfan 01-27-2010 12:11 PM

OMG!!!That would be sooooo AWESOME!!!I hope WB confirm it!:D

hpnaiv 01-27-2010 12:47 PM

I don't really see the problem with having it in 3D. There will still be a 2D version, so the people complaining don't need to complain, unless they are JUST releasing it in 3D which, of course, is a problem.

Craig 01-27-2010 02:36 PM

Do really like the sound of this. 3D films never really look very 3D.

Ga.b. 01-27-2010 03:16 PM

WOW,great!

Patronus Charm 01-27-2010 03:20 PM

I dislike 3D! They want u to recycle them...and then recharge u for them!

SlytherinGirl94 01-27-2010 04:00 PM

I think the Harry Potter films shouldn't be in 3D.
I like the normal 2D films.
And we don't have any Imax.

Maybe the Hogwarts battle would be good in 3D but for me it doesn't have to be.

Patronus Charm 01-27-2010 04:53 PM

the rest of the films were not in 3D...why start now at the bitter end?

Bookworm 01-27-2010 05:19 PM

I think this is great!Battle will be awesome.Oh,I can't wait to see the movie...

Poisonedbyyou 01-27-2010 05:52 PM

Not a bad idea. Personally, I'll be headed to the 2D movie. Unfortunately, 3D gives me headaches :(

MrMcGonagall 01-27-2010 06:30 PM

I hate watching films in 3D. I always get terrible headaches.
God, hope not.

puppet1303 01-27-2010 06:38 PM

no thanks ;/ i don't like that like every movie comes in 3D :s i would be maybe cool if they have the 3D like in Avatar because not very much things were "coming out" of the screen you know? i think that would be a little bit lame for Harry Potter if like the wands or the spells would "come out" of the screen. But we will just have to wait 8]

Hermionespell 01-27-2010 11:18 PM

Ew, I hope not. I'm not a fan of 3D in movies unless it's an IMAX special of the rain forest or Galapagos or something of that like.

harrypfreak4life 01-27-2010 11:47 PM

lovin' life

OMG THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!! :woot: hope it gets confirmed ;D

Cinemas do need to have 3D techology but there are plenty that do and aren't IMAX.

Not entirely, no.

3D glasses are black now, aren't they? At least they have been at cinemas I've gone to...

I think 3D would work better for part II, given that the first has been described as a 'road movie'.

deadkenny 03-29-2010 04:55 PM

Note that Avatar was created in 3D using 3D cameras and 3D CGI techniques.

The method proposed here and used in many of the current crop of 3D films is using a conversion technique to convert a 2D film to 3D (though the 2D film may have scenes deliberately shot in a style that best suits the 3D conversion process).

The result will not be like Avatar and to get good effect they may have to resort to "in your face" shots. It's a cheap gimmick basically.

Oh, and at home, unless you buy one of the new 3D HDTVs that are coming out (very expensive), you will be using the old red/blue(or green) glasses as used in the 50s which is nauseating and limits the colour depth and resolution. It's a compromise. True 3D TVs work as in the current 3D cinemas, using polarised display and glasses.

Leave them alone I say, or shoot properly in 3D. But as the rest of the series was not shot in 3D it seems pointless.
