| | | Ralph Fiennes speaks about the Dark Lord The New York Daily Times has a small new snippet from Ralph Fiennes who describes Lord Voldemort, the character he's playing in ' Goblet of Fire'. Quote:
"That's one of the hardest things to play, the personification of evil!" exclaims Fiennes. "It's a full-on villain turn. You have to find a certain style or tone — you don't want to be either too campy or too understated. I thought of that old [standard] about Voldemort having an unhappy childhood."

He's had his share of evil characters before, and he always managed to turn in a good performance, so I don't think he'll have any problems playing our favorite villain. |

Yeah I bet it's hard to play something like Voldy, and not go over the top, like the maniac with big large eyes, and stuff coming out of their nostrils while they cry "Muahahahaha!" (maybe the nose thing was a bit too much )
But I'm sure he did a great job at it.

Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.

Man, I still can't believe they got finnes to do the role its a dream come ture! The whole casting of the film series though is pretty much a ( I want It you got it, additude) shoe in. Rickman, Thewlis, Richardson, Oldman, Coltrane, Gleeson, Smith, Spall, Gambon, Isaacs, christie... Its really unbelievable. and yet believable because who wouldnt want to do this!!

I think the other kids in the orphanage with Riddle had a more unhappy childhood...nope, sorry, just can't feel sorry for Voldie. But maybe Harry will in book 7...the power of love, forgiveness, etc.

I think that Ralph Fiennes is a brilliant actor! It's no surprise that he would find it difficult to play the role of You-Know-Who. For many who are taken in by the Harry Potter books, Voldermort is the ultimate evil, and that means, for many, that Fiennes will be the face evil in the minds of people who see him.

He got some pretty kick-butt speeches in CoS. And they were delivered by the gorgeous Christian Coulson as Young Voldy (who I hope will be back for HBP *drool* What? He IS supposed to be handsome!). But I see your point. Doesn't he talk an awful lot in the graveyard though?

Yeah, *blushing* On both counts I mean...LOL. I wouldn't mind Christian Coulson coming back.
But yeah, he does have a pretty intense scene in GoF in the graveyard, but it's translating it to film that's going to be...uhm...iffy. Kids won't sit through long speeches about the importance of being evil and how power is all that matters and how Harry is going to die...I so need to reread GoF. LOL I'm off to do just that.

Well, when I think of Voldermort, I image someone who is too horrible to look upon (I'm referring back to book 4 when people i.e. the garden, die just by the site of him). Although, Voldermort use to be a handsome Tom Riddle, I do believe that Rowling makes it clear that the face of evil is eventually protrayed by the evil doer. Thus, I believe that all of Tom's beauty has been sold for power. In CoS, Tom could still be thought of as the handsome and clever boy named Tom. Keep in mind, however, that we were going back into the past- Tom's past. In GoF, Tom is Lord Voldermort, and to be Voldermort, is to be merceless, powerful, and to live with a divided soul. Rowling never portrays a beautiful Lord Voldermort to the reader, but gives us a fowl image.

These films aren't made for the kids. Even David Heyman said it's not a film for 4 year olds! Quote:

That doesn't mean we can't drool over young Voldemort.
