A few
Harry Potter actors have and will be heading to the Broadway and West End stage this fall, including Ralph Fiennes in a new adaptation of Shakespeare's
The Tempest, Alan Rickman in
Seminar, and Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley) in
When Did You Last See My Mother?
Alan Rickman, known to
Harry Potter fans as dubious Severus Snape, will return to the Broadway stage in this fall's production of
Seminar, which will open beginning October 27, 2011. More on the play and Rickman's role can be read here; tickets will go on sale starting September 17th
here.
Quote:
In SEMINAR, four aspiring young novelists sign up for private writing classes with Leonard (Rickman), an international literary figure. Under his recklessly brilliant and unorthodox instruction, some thrive and others flounder, alliances are made and broken, sex is used as a weapon and hearts are unmoored. The wordplay is not the only thing that turns vicious as innocence collides with experience in this biting new comedy.
Harry will be on the West End from September 14 - October 8, 2011 for
When Did You Last See My Mother? at Trafalgar Studios 2 in London. A poster art of the play with Harry on it, as well as a summary of the show and the actor's involvement are below.
Just as Ian decides to give up on a London in which everyone else is having fun, the boys get a visit from Jimmy's mother. Charismatic and reckless, she opens the boys' deepest secrets and pulls them into calamitous new territory.
Hampton's witty, soulful and horribly acute play is a brilliant howl of frustration and sexuality, directed by Blanche McIntyre following her "career-making" (New York Times) production of Accolade earlier this year.
Ian will be played by Harry Melling (known to Harry Potter fans as Dudley following his 'outstanding performance' in Women Beware Women at the National Theatre. He's joined by Abigail Cruttenden (The Knot of the Heart, Almeida; Sharpe and Benidorm) and Sam Swainsbury (Propeller's Comedy of Errors and Richard III). Christopher Hampton is best known for his play Les Liaisons Dangereuses and won an Oscar for his film adaptation. He was also nominated for his screenplay of Atonement.
Finally, Ralph Fiennes is currently starring as Prospero in William Shakespeare's
The Tempest at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from now until October 29, 2011. Photos from the September 6th opening and press of the production, which has already generated over £1 million in ticket sales (purchasable
here), of Ralph (and Harry Potter costar Richard Griffiths) can be found in our
galleries.
